3381  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining bitcoin on: June 26, 2018, 07:37:52 PM
No worries, MODS moved you into speculation.

There is another option besides mining at a loss. Your equipment is currently still profitable if you were to have it hosted. The only problem is finding a reputable company to host the Miner, that also has space in their facility.

You did say you can handle the Mining at a loss for now, but does that mean you do need to cash in for the FIAT income? Or you just don't want to keep paying the electrical costs on the hope BTC rises again?

Depending on what you decide my previous point on hardware sales is something to consider; no one is paying a premium anymore.
3382  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: New arrival of Video cards 15х1080ti on: June 26, 2018, 05:46:29 PM
The best thing about this is that, OP forgot to make his scam offer a self moderated topic. So this all gets to stay up as the reference.

Good job taking them to task.
3383  Other / Meta / Re: Starting threads to try to generate meritable posts on: June 26, 2018, 05:23:42 PM
I'm having problems getting replies as it is. I started another one about the difference between Scrypt and SHA-256 - maybe I'm getting too technical, but I thought that some of them might do a bit of research.

The first reply looks like a copy and paste with a credit, Hopefully it will generate a bit of discussion, but I don't want to merit a copy and paste. This is the latest thread btw
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4547960.0

It doesn't hurt to have a wide range from basic to technical; even in the beginners and help section. 98% of the newbies will have next to no clue about the more technical questions but you will find some with a background or who have already put in some research.

Yeah I've seen so many threads that are being started, as a complete copy/paste but with the source cited at the bottom. IMO this is barely below plagiarism, It's just as lazy but at  least they are crediting the content creator. I just wish they'd take a minute and read the article then try and put the info in their own words.

To much to ask; I know.
3384  Other / Meta / Re: Starting threads to try to generate meritable posts on: June 26, 2018, 03:50:27 PM
I like the idea of asking questions to see if you get any Meritable answers.

My only suggestions would be to not advertise they can earn Merit, and see what you get. The responses may come slower but will probably be more genuine.
3385  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining bircoin on: June 26, 2018, 03:09:10 PM
No worries nothing wrong with keeping me on my toes. Wink

Until this post I hadn't ever looked into them as I remember you vets talking about them not being available. Times they are a changing.

3386  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining bircoin on: June 26, 2018, 01:25:47 PM
First it would be best to place this in the mining speculation thread.

Now to your question, it depends on what you think will happen with BTC, the DIFF will keep rising; ideally not as fast as it has but the upward trend is likely to continue.

How much of a loss on electricity can you afford? If you think the price will rise again in the future you can always mine at a loss for as long as you feel comfortable and hope to reap the rewards in the future.

If you do decide selling the gear is the best option, do you think you will recoup enough of your investment to make it worthwhile to buy GPU's and switch to ALT's? Gear is now selling at a deeply reduced rate so you may not get what you think you can. GPU's are a little cheaper than they were but from what I've seen they are still not a steal by any means.

Personally I've doubled down on BTC miners in the last week to keep my hashrate up, but did build a GPU rig a few months ago because I wanted to have options to weather our current situation.

Either way Good luck.

Edit: I'm not familiar with the miner but I thought OP was discussing this

From post I deleted.
3387  Other / Meta / Re: with bitcoin price collapsing why not start transform this forum? on: June 25, 2018, 11:13:11 PM

every single altcoin popping up out of nothing has in the first place basically the same legitimacy as bitcoin does. being first is meaningless

What do you call tissue paper? Probably Kleenex. Just an example of how being first out the door does carry weight.

Bitcoin being dead, more like righting itself. The last year has been insane for BTC, and even more so from September to December. So people need to take a step back and breath to put things into perspective.

I can't say that it will be the driving force to replace FIAT, but I do believe in what ever system comes into place it will be the backbone. Hell a lot of these alt coins are forks of BTC, so that's gotta say something.
There are definitely limitations to BTC being your go to for buying a coffee, or picking up fast food; but there are ideas coming out to deal with these issues.

I think you have a fair point in regards to modifying the Alt coin section, to reflect the current success of some of these coins and pave the way for a better environment to discuss them. I just don't agree we need to shift the entire forum in that direction.

3388  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IF WE EVER BUILD HUMAN REPUTATION PROGRAM, HOW SHOULD IT BE DONE? on: June 25, 2018, 05:30:23 PM
I suggest people to read this.

For example Bitcointalk failed at doing their Merit and Trust system fair.

So is this the poutinsev ALT??

I like this article much better than your last. It's actually well thought out and written. I could do without the all caps titles though.

To reiterate from your previous thread.

The merit system may not be perfect but it is far from a failure.

The trust system may not be perfect but it is far from a failure.
3389  Other / Meta / Re: Is it allowed to post bounty all over the forum? on: June 25, 2018, 05:24:00 PM
The best thing you can do is use the "Report to Moderator" option at the bottom left of the post.

You will be given a line to write why you are reporting it, just explain they are spamming the forum with the same post in multiple threads, and the MODS will go through the post history a bit.
3390  Other / Meta / Re: Scam gate on: June 25, 2018, 04:28:21 PM
When I got to the forum, I very early on got acquainted with the idea of the community policing itself. I went and checked out the thread in question, and it was clear in the first 3 pages that is what was going on. Here is a great example.

OP.  I would be willing to review if necessary.  Im sure Phil would be willing to review himself.. and he's the better candidate.

until then, I will remain more skeptical than the above replies are.

And a follow up.

YES, I was a guarantee of a real product reviewed by a trusted member.
and most of all, I want PROOF of a product as described BEFORE taking or requesting ANY payment; as well as GUARANTEED shipping/receiving terms; even if its no guarantee or promise whatsoever.  at least you would be honest about it.

Just like anyone else out there that is interested, I would want to purchase one: if what you say is true.
Everything else you say means nothing if the product is just a scam or a ruse... because you are simply trying to push a product;  that's not being manufactured yet.... you haven't reached a manufacturing agreement even, you haven't sent any review samples out.... it's all hot air and fancy photos.

Do you understand me now?

Look at the history of miners that have been introduced and marketed the same way you are doing it now.  Now, look at how many of those "miners" are actually retail/purchasable products OR that have existed at one point.....    At most 1 out of 15-20 of them is an actual product now.

Look at how Pandaminer came about and was first introduced to us;  and subsequently, what steps they took.

Take note.  We are watching.  We are willing to purchase if it is worth it.

It may seem like I am being pushy, or harassing you:

What I am really doing is I'm trying to hand you the key to a successful sale;  should the product be legitimate.  I suggest you be extremely transparent from now on.

I understand the feeling of wanting more to be done to protect people, but you can only put up so many flashing lights, and warnings before people become complacent with the notion of "safe".
Honestly history has also shown us that the scams and scammers will either evolve, or just try the same thing and see what sticks. Regulating the forum further won't make much difference, people just have to stop breathe and make an informed decision, which includes listening to older forum members who have seen these scams in the past.

As far as I'm concerned members provided all the warnings necessary. I'm sorry to hear anyone got taken, but it now has to be a learning experience and used to move forward and help police the community by asking questions and taking statements with a grain of salt.

Hi,

Yes it is good to 1600W on 220V, I will test it to make sure it runs correctly before shipping.

Here is the picture as requested.

Thank you. Replied to PM
3392  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I ask about learning to mine Bitcoin? on: June 25, 2018, 03:41:04 PM
Yeah you fall into a niche category as far as "Miner" goes; what with the aspirations of coin development.

When you are recharged maybe just go poking around the "Development and Technical Discussion"

In regards to commands and behind the scenes stuff you could also try Pm'ing users like CK, or Kano.

Good luck
3393  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 2x Antminer S9 TH/s 13.5, 2x Antminer S9i 14 TH/s 5x Bitmain Power Supply on: June 25, 2018, 03:34:43 PM
Thanks. Yeah a picture would be good. Just to be sure you've tried the PSU and everything was fine?

This is good to 1600W on a 220V right?

No problem on the cables I can source some.
3394  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 2x Antminer S9 TH/s 13.5, 2x Antminer S9i 14 TH/s 5x Bitmain Power Supply on: June 25, 2018, 03:10:37 PM
Sounds good. I'm interested in a power supply. Paypal is fine with me. Below is the info I still need, thanks.

I might be interested in  a psu.

Do you have power cables to go with the psu? Which model are they?

Thanks
3395  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I ask about learning to mine Bitcoin? on: June 25, 2018, 03:08:05 PM
Considering you likely have a few PSU's kicking around why don't you just pick up something considered unprofitable right now. S7/S5

One of the few times I would suggest grabbing an older model Antminer. This way you don't have to grab a controller as well. They're relatively cheap right now so you'd be out 200$ tops.

You can also look up low difficulty coins right now in the ALT coin, this is where you can get a feel for CPU/GPU mining processes. You'll also be able to look into the different ALGOS; right now things are headed in the direction of x16R and x16S. These are an attempt to be ASIC resistant.

Good luck on your venture and quest for knowledge.
3396  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I ask about learning to mine Bitcoin? on: June 25, 2018, 01:26:19 PM
Hey Jet,

What do you want to know? I've been a small home miner for just over a year now and can shed some light on certain aspects.

There are a lot of really knowledgeable miners of all sizes here on the Forum, but depending on what and how you ask moderation can seem a bit heavy handed.

If you want to try another thread Mining support would probably be the place. Just leave out any mention of a laptop being used in the OP, as that will probably trigger a move immediately to the alt coin section. Which could in itself give you a glimpse into what BTC mining would have entailed in the GPU days.

Quote
Mining support - This is for all questions regarding understanding the process of BITCOIN mining, and any issues with setting up hardware, configuration issues, stability issues, etc. Where hardware has a dedicated support thread by the manufacturer or maintainer of the hardware, there will be a post in the hardware subforum so please use that first. CPU, GPU and FPGA mining support will be moved to the altcoin mining section.

I might be interested in  a psu.

Can you post photos of the items with a handwritten note of your account name and the date?

Are you accepting forum escrow or PayPal G&S

Do you have power cables to go with the psu? Which model are they?

Thanks

I just saw the text below on the icemingpool discord channel. Thought I would pass it along in case anyone is using that miner.

@everyone There have been several reports now of people having their wallets hacked after downloading Delosminer. The wallets auto transfer maximum funds out to hackers address once amounts of 5k - 10k are met. Anyone who has downloaded it already should transfer all funds to another wallet and clean install OS, burning the original wallet.dat. Delosminer is obviously communicating with wallets after downloading. Issue persists even after removing miner. Recommended miner for x16s/x16r is z-enemy. It has been tested and no malicious bugs reported that I know of. Wallets hacked after downloading Delosminer have been REEF/RVN/PGN all x16s/x16r coin wallets look to be at risk.

Sarcheer has it right in regards to the asics in a living space. I've heard a few people talk about I think A6's, R4's, and  few down tuned others in offices and such until it gets warm

That's pretty cool. I've worked in a conventional ammonia plant. So we had to learn about absorption cooling but it was usually cost prohibitive.

I love the way that local environments find a way to use what they have an abundance of to innovate. I remember reading about a kid; I think it was in Africa. He set up his bike to work as the compressor to refrigerate a cooler so that medicine didn't spoil on long trips for delivery.

You'll have to update this thread if you manage to get that little project going. It will be neat to see the size required to reap the benefits for mining.
3400  Other / Meta / Re: The 1st hero account ranked up from senior?! Cleary an abuse, alts or bought? on: June 22, 2018, 12:44:04 PM
The account only ever received 50 Merit in one transaction so it must have been a Hero account on 24th Jan. Then for whatever reason, they have deleted the post history.

I wonder why would they do this...

My guess is that one or more was a bought account, and they didn't want to be caught based on past post practices.

Or they are looking to make it an attractive newbie account sale. Hero potential with activity and Merit.
