841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would Bitcoin Be Badly Hurt if Binance Goes Down? on: July 07, 2023, 08:27:50 PM
Whether you like it or not, it's always a yes. Smaller hacked or shutdown exchanges always give a bad effect on the market, how much more on largest exchange?

Shutting down of binance is highly unlikely to happen (for now) maybe on their US based offices/market, but it doesn't speak the same on the rest of their offices/market. But obviously it will have a mid to high bad effect on the market for some time.
Bitcoin price has plummeted in just 24 hours when the FTX crisis has been known, so how much more if the same event will happen to Binance? Surely it will create a massive effect on bitcoin price, the market will definitely turn into a bad shape, hence weak investors will probably be in panic again. That’s the reality if Binance will be put in danger. Not only it’s own company will suffer, but also bitcoin price and the crypto market itself.
842  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: July 07, 2023, 12:37:15 PM
TNT vs Beermen tonight at 7:30 PM.

There's no spread for this game yet but the moneyline odds for TNT is x20. Looks attractive but knowing their struggle, I think betting on that is just a waste of money. Maybe the spread is around 20+, so I guess I would just stay away from this game, this is very hard to predict.

This game is likely to result in another blowout loss, as SMB is currently leading by 18 points. If the spread was set at -20, it is highly probable that SMB would still be able to cover that spread. So far, TNT has been performing poorly in the PBA on tour exhibition games, consistently finding themselves at a disadvantage in mismatched games.
843  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game Winner Result Changed After 24 hours (Defaulted) on: July 07, 2023, 11:34:45 AM
This does not happen all the time. In such situations, gambling sites typically rectify the mistake by correcting the payments. If there are gamblers who were mistakenly paid, the site will deduct the excess amount from their balance, while those who lost will be paid their winnings. However, this can be a critical issue because some gamblers who have already withdrawn their winnings might not be willing to deposit more funds if they know their balance will be deducted. In such cases, I believe the gambling site will bear the losses as they are responsible for paying the winners.
844  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Signature and Forum Campaign Question on: July 06, 2023, 09:39:11 PM
As what _act posted, the admin and mods made some board like that where signatures won't be displayed in the board or won't allow anyone to promote their company in that board. The reason why campaign managers have that rule where some boards are excluded is because it's wnere spammers and shitposters are posting. The campaign owner want their company to be seen using the signature and if you are posting in a board where signatures doesn't show then all I can say is they are only giving their money for nothing. Some campaign manager counted posts in boards like Altcoin Discussion whereas others don't.
Spamming in the forum is always discouraged, otherwise if you’re caught that you made consistent spam posts, then you might be banned permanently. So don’t wait for that to happen on you. That’s the reason why most campaign managers excluded those boards that are frequently seen with spam posts, because that will also ruin the purpose of the campaign alone. Signature campaigns are said to promote for its productivity and progress, so managers should be more cautious on what boards these participants will be posting.
845  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do I become a successful Bitcoin investor as a newbies? on: July 06, 2023, 03:33:08 PM
That's what a newbie should do when they are just starting. Honestly, I am not an expert when it comes to investments but I know that a person who wants to invest should be knowledgeable about what they want to invest in. Willingness to take risk is also important because if an investor is not willing to take risk then that investor is more likely not earning the same as those investors who are willing to take risks. OP, what you mentioned is good enough for newbie investors to become successful and an investor whoose profit or make mistakes will learn from it or in short, learn from mistakes to become better.
While knowledge and skills are much important in bitcoin investing, I think the passion and the patience to consistently learn and understand the market is a must too. Without them, you will never be successful as a bitcoin investor. In addition, a sufficient amount of capital will be a great help too since you can’t invest and maximize your portfolio if you don’t have enough means to make it possible.
846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We All Know, The halving time will be full of drama on: July 06, 2023, 03:12:31 PM
It's just FUD in general — not necessarily because the halving is around the corner. I'm pretty sure the government could care less about the halving. The FUD recently has mostly been before the spot ETF announcements — it's a pretty safe assumption that it's been coordinated.
Well FUDs are everywhere. And everything that is created just to put bitcoin at its disadvantage will remain as a FUD. So I don’t see real drama here unless people will also bite it. And probably majority of them are those newbies that are expected to panic everytime bitcoin halving is near approaching. And by 2024, surely the same scenario will be observed in the market.
847  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Stephen Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue | WBC & WBO 122 lbs bout | July 25 on: July 06, 2023, 01:27:25 PM

Casimero's path to becoming a champion won't be easy since he has yet to have a championship fight. Currently, all eyes are focused on the upcoming Fulton vs. Inoue fight. By the time Casimero becomes a champion, Inoue might have already unified a belt and could potentially decide to move up in weight class once again.

If Inoue will gonna just beat his opponents easily just like he beats those guys in the lower weight division, then there's no point for him to stay in his weight class anymore rather he should continue to fully max his potential until he reached his limit and be one of the pound for pound legend in the boxing history. He is still young and surely he will gonna face some real contenders in every weight division and maybe Casimero will be one of them so that he won't be having any doubts about his skills that he was able to beat every opponent out there that are once great like him in his era.

You have a valid point. Inoue is indeed making history, so it's likely that he will move up in weight class if he believes he can continue to win in a higher division. I'm not sure if Pacquiao is his idol, but if he is, then he should consider following in Pacquiao's footsteps. After all, they are both Asian fighters, and it would be a source of pride for Asians to dominate the boxing world.
848  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 06, 2023, 01:01:42 PM
What I read is that the flopping penalty is given after the game has stopped.  It may not have been fully explained because the rule is newer. This rule becomes clearer in the upcoming games.
I'm confident that the players will adapt to it, especially with the preseason before the regular season. They will have the opportunity to make the necessary adjustments to avoid committing technical fouls due to flopping, as it can be costly for a team. A technical foul results in one free throw and ball possession for the opposing team, which can be detrimental, particularly in a crucial game.

JUST IN: Scottie Thompson suffered a metacarpal fracture on his right hand during Gilas’ practice in Kaunas, Lithuania.

It's not good news for our Philippine Team as Thompson plays a crucial role in the roster. He contributes on both offense and defense, and is a skilled rebounder. I wonder who will replace him in the starting lineup, considering his importance. I believe Abando, who has mostly been a bench player, could have a chance to shine in this role.

That means he is already out. It's a significant loss for Team Gilas, considering how valuable Scottie is. His hustle and the energy he brings to the floor are crucial factors for Gilas' success. What happened is unfortunate, but they need to move on as injuries can occur at any time. I'm confident that our roster is still capable of representing our country competitively.
850  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lotteries and possibility vs. probability on: July 05, 2023, 02:17:34 PM
..
It does increase the chance of winnings but the problem is, does the amount of ticket in hand does have a huge impact on that chance?  So we better calculate if it is worth spending extra before buying the amount of ticket in the lottery.
Couldn't agree more!
If we take the national lottery as example then we are talking about millions of tickets being sold. If you buy one ticket, you have a small chance to win. If you buy ten tickets then you have increased your chances of winning ten times but those chances are still small given the huge number of sold tickets. Personally, I prefer buying a single ticket and hope for the best.
I've literally seen people spending thousands of dollars on lotteries to win the main prize but they ended up winning very small prizes and sometimes even not winning a prize at all, so it's simply wasting your money when your winning and losing is totally dependent on your luck and nothing else, even if you get higher chances of winning if you have more tickets, that doesn't really guarantee that you will actually win a prize at least enough to cover the cost of the tickets.

That's why, I always say that one shouldn't go above and beyond their limits when buying lottery tickets and only a small amount of tickets should be enough for one to check their luck, if they are lucky, their ticket will get a prize even if it's only one out of millions, and if they aren't, they won't win even with millions of tickets.

In movies, we often see bettors discovering glitches in the lottery system, but in real life, it feels like we're simply flushing our money down the drain every time we bet on the lottery. That's why it's crucial for us to be wise and understand our chances. The lottery offers very slim odds of winning, close to impossible. Therefore, if we do choose to bet, it's important to only risk a minimal amount, an amount that we can afford to lose or even donate.
851  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: July 05, 2023, 12:43:13 PM
Just giving my insight as I read it somewhere that arbitrage is closely being monitored by bookies to avoid such an edge from the gamblers.

Indeed, they closely monitor arbitrage betting since it guarantees a win for the gamblers. It's generally acceptable to engage in arbitrage betting using two different gambling sites as it's less likely to be noticed. However, if you consistently perform arbitrage betting on a single site, especially with substantial amounts, they are likely to become aware of it. It's important to note that while it may not be illegal, at least according to the article, it is closely monitored by the platforms.

Quote
Is Arbitrage Betting Legal?
Arbitrage betting is not illegal, but bookmakers try their best to stop it. While operators cannot technically take away the profits that are made, they will try to limit accounts and cancel bets to halt arbers.

This means that even for low-lying, profitable arbers, not all risk is eliminated: They are playing a cat and mouse game with the bookies in order to not get caught – or “gubbed”.
852  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Nonito Donaire vs Alejandro Santiago for WBC bantamweight title on: July 05, 2023, 11:54:00 AM

That's how favored he is to win this fight. If we could aim for a KO victory, I believe the odds would be even higher, so we shouldn't hesitate to take that opportunity. It's rare to see Donaire face a boxer whom he could clearly dominate. The odds may not be attractive, but I have great confidence in Donaire winning the fight, perhaps within the first three rounds. Who would dare to risk betting on that?

Maybe because right now, he is not the kind of boxer he was in his prime, and obviously Santiago is the only boxer he can dominate and not the other contenders in the high rank anymore. Let's just see how the old Donaire will handle this fight after coming from a devastating loss against Inoue and what kinds of skills he still has to show Santiago in this fight because if he hasn't been training some new skills, then Santiago will easily win this fight because of knowing all his moves already unless Donaire is fully ready and have the plan to knock him out.

Bookies would not make him a heavy favorite if people didn't believe in Donaire's capability anymore. While he did suffer a TKO against Inoue, it's important to note that Inoue has been dominating anyone who dares to challenge him. This is a fresh start for Donaire since the belts have all been vacated with Inoue moving up to the super bantamweight division.

Yes, I like that term, 'fresh start' for Nonito and hopefully this is just the beginning for another of his reign as Inoue is no longer here.
So we will see how far Donaire can go, if he beats Santiago then he will have to defend it sooner or later against another young guys in the division. And there is a potential as well as it could be against another Filipino in Reymart Gaballo.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, not a couple of weeks and we will see again Nonito and for sure he will be up to the challenge once more.

I hope we don't witness another Filipino boxer suffering at the hands of Donaire. If he wins this fight, it would be great to see a unification match next. Considering that Donaire is not getting any younger, he cannot afford to waste time. He needs to pursue more achievements, and a unification fight would be a great start.

854  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Minimum Age to gamble on: July 04, 2023, 12:10:58 PM
Also, if we find any site allowing minors to gamble, can legal action be taken against them?
The legal action taken will usually apply to the child's parents because the underage age range is still under parental control.

That is very complicated. There's no time for regulators to identify who the parents are. The easiest way for them to take action is to sue the site for allowing minors. Of course, no gambling sites would permit a minor to gamble. Even if they don't require KYC at first, once you sign up with the site, you agree that you are not underage. However, in some cases, individuals may easily lie.
855  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 04, 2023, 11:24:19 AM
According to the latest news I've read, there is only one team that Damian Lillard wants to be traded to now and that is the Miami Heat. (Shams Charania)

If this trade happens, it will be very good for the Miami Heat.
Do you think this trade will happen?

I believe the trade is likely to happen since Lillard has expressed his desire to leave the team. It wouldn't make sense for the Blazers to keep him if he wants to go elsewhere. They will likely engage in negotiations to find a trade deal that they consider fair. Currently, there are no other teams rumored to be involved in talks for Lillard, so it seems that he specifically wants to join the Heat. That's what we should believe for now.

The decision will still depends on Portland if they like to trade Lillard on his desired team since provably they will not agree to what he demand if they don't like the trade offers given by Heat. For sure Portland will find better players to add on their roster if Lillard will go since if they cannot get a good replacement their team will get heavily affected to the changes made in this free agency.

True, there are plenty of teams that would go after Lillard with a better offer, so it is highly unlikely that he will be traded to the Heat if there's a better offer, as the Trail Blazers management is always the one to be followed.

here's the article.

Damian Lillard trade destinations: Star wants Heat, but plenty of other teams have more to offer

Teams that are interested are.

Miami Heat
Brooklyn Nets
Philadelphia 76ers
San Antonio Spurs
Toronto Raptors
856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you still do business with them? on: July 01, 2023, 06:49:20 PM
I know that many other centralized exchanges may declare bankruptcy - but let's ignore this for a moment and assume that these companies gets back in business would you patronize them? Would you still do business with them? I know the whole talk of move your bitcoin off centralized exchanges but we cannot denial the fact they that they still play an important role in the crypto community.

Everyone should have a second chance, but in the case of businesses it should be accompanied by clear changes such as changes in the top management. In any case, to do business with a centralized exchange you should be very careful in general, even if the exchange has not gone bankrupt (yet, lol).
Yes, I do believe that everyone deserves a second chance even when it comes to our money and investment as long as we also see some positive changes that is going to take place. But regardless if an exchange is highly reputable or not, the fact that it’s centralized means we don’t have the full control of our investment anymore, then we should take extra careful and caution when doing business with them. And of course, by putting only a small amount of coins at an exchange, we are minimizing the risk of losing.
857  Economy / Economics / Re: Ignore this Classic Business Law or Follow Your Instincts? on: July 01, 2023, 06:21:13 PM
I attended a business seminar where a facilitator a renowned professor, and Entrepreneur shared a story on how he missed out on investing in a small fintech start two years ago which as at today is worth $500 million. He said the team had approached him to make an a investment in the start but because he did not understand how the were going to make money since he didn't invest the $100k he wanted to write them. Today, he would have been $7.5million richer had he invested.

They say do not invest in what you do not understand which was largely the principle the speaker adhered to but what if despite not immediately understanding the business model and its profit making model yet your business instinct pushing you to invest. What should you do? Listen to the former or follow your instincts?
That’s always the rule before you decide to invest, know what you are investing for. Otherwise, you may only waste your money and efforts from believing in a scam project. However, if your instinct is pushing you to invest, then you can always invest with a small amount that you can afford to lose. That way, you will not be regretting your decision whether you win or lose, because you grab the chance thinking that it could be another missed opportunity if you let it slip again.
858  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk; a school on its own. on: July 01, 2023, 06:04:55 PM
Satoshi Nakamoto did the right thing by launching a forum in anticipation of Bitcoin's interest he knew that it needs a free platform to share and communicate with the pioneers and promotion of Bitcoin.
Every industry or interest has a community to communicate and share their experience, issues, and vision and Bitcointalk has done a great part in promoting Bitcoin, this is where the community of Bitcoineers started and it's a home for believers.
Yes. Kudos to Satoshi for a job well done, and because of his brilliant idea, more and more people have been educated about bitcoin through bitcointalk forum, and is now living their successful life with the presence of bitcoin. And while adoption of bitcoin is more visible because of this growing community, I believe with the continuous free and informative discussion with the members in the forum, more lives of people will experience life changing opportunities that they will only learn from the forum.
859  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Better to have a trading knowledge than depending on signals. on: July 01, 2023, 05:45:56 PM
...As a trader that relies on buying signals, how confident are you about the continuous availability of those signals. Would they always be accurate and dependable?  Heavily depending on signals is parallel to same thing as someone else trading for you with your money. How ironical!..

As a rule, buyers of signals are beginners who lack trading skills and knowledge about how the cryptocurrency market works. And after a while, when they acquire the necessary knowledge, they refuse such signals, because they understand that he can independently determine the level of buying/selling.
I think that’s normal for beginner traders to rely from paid signals since they are not well capable to trade and expect bigger profits. The rule is, no one should be trading unless he’s knowledgeable and skillful enough to trade, but newbies fail to follow this because of their greed and hunger to make quick profits. That’s why they resort into trusting paid signals and when they start losing, that’s when they realized that paid signals do not work and are not reliable all the time.
860  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Being Knowledgeable before Bitcoin investment is very Good on: July 01, 2023, 05:25:25 PM
Not only is it very good, but it's a must.

You need to be well knowledgeable when you plan to invest in crypto, as that's the best way to minimize the risk and have a good chance of being successful. One of the major reasons why people fail in investing is because they are "too greedy." They easily fall for fake advertisements about returns that are too good to be true. So, if you have the basic knowledge, you won't fall for that.

When it comes to investing, there's one basic rule that I always remember:

"When the return is too good to be true, that's a scam."
Not just for bitcoin investment, but in all types of investments, having prior knowledge is always a must. That way, you will know if the investment has its high potentials to succeed or just another part of scam that is going to waste your money and put all your time and efforts into waste. Without knowledge, everything for you is good and desirable to invest especially for those too good to be true investments, until you realized it that you invested in a wrong coin while seeing your money is not growing anymore and even push yourself to lose a lot from a red flag investment.
