Does anything need to be done on sentinel with 12.1.3 ? I'm guessing not but thought some knowledgeable person might confirm

If you already updated sentinel to version 1.0.1 with previous update 12.1.2 then nothing needs to be done.
Otherwise you need to update sentinel through git pull

if you installed sentinel in .dashcore the update command would be cd .dashcore/sentinel && git pull
if you installed sentinel in home then the update command would most likely be cd sentinel && git pull

(it does not really matter where you install sentinel)

Dashninja.pl has been updated to show both latest Dash version and latest sentinel version, so you can use that site to determine if sentinel needs to be updated as well.

Thanks quizzie  Smiley

Theres no need to put a massive list of users on ignore, just icebreaker on ignore cuts out about 80% of the trolling, you can add arielbit for about 19%

Congrats Dash team on taking the #3 spot the last few months the marketcap has been going up whatever it is keep it up guys that's a big step

I think its because the budget system which makes a virtuous circle. People make proposals and vote on things to improve Dash -> Dash becomes more valuable -> There is more spending power available to make dash better -> New proposals made, and so on.
845  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: February 28, 2017, 06:54:02 PM

So this is just insane and if some Masternodes decide to sell, price will just crash imo.

You can't tell demand from looking at an order book.

They fill up when price is reducing and evaporate when it's going up because all the bids go off order-book since traders don't want to chase the asks away.

tok we have the exact same activity !  ; Shocked Wink Cheesy Grin

Its also the exact same urgument that iCEBREAKER would use over and over in this very ANN forum over the last two years : Masternode owners will sell, market can not cope with that and Dash price will collapse.
There is just little thought about how OTC works, how masternodes can change hands...

Yes icey, he keeps saying it, but it never seems to happen. Talking of which when is he going to troll us on the protocol level?

Huge green candles. Perhaps some whales are experiencing FOMO on masternodes  ? ? ?

Congrats to DASH! As someone who took part in the early days and left sometime in between i have to say it really makes me happy to see the project finally getting the attention and appreciation it deserves!

Yes, surprising in some ways it stayed under the radar for so long
849  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: February 27, 2017, 08:48:35 PM
I have a modest Dash holding from when Dash was a lot cheaper than it is now with the current price spike. I hold other coins too. What I'd like to ask is this -

Is Dash immune from blockchain bloat and, if it isn't, whether this will be an issue at some point in the future?

The issue with Bitcoin isn't bloat, per se. The problem is that Bitcoin doesn't incentivize people to run full nodes, meaning that once the blockchain grows to a certain size, it becomes more difficult and/or expensive to run a full node. It also becomes more time consuming to start a full node, due to the very long syncing process. Dash mitigates that with the masternode network. Masternodes are full nodes with a full copy of the blockchain. Since they are incentivized from the block reward, there is no problem getting people to run them.

Thanks for your explanation. Trying to get my head around Master nodes running full blockchains that sidechains (?) can run on. I read somewhere that that isn't a solution to blockchain bloat. Would appreciate enlightenment if I am getting this wrong.

To put things into a nutshell, I'm trying to work out whether to keep Dash, or sell while the price is high.

Not sure I understand the reference to side chains? Dash doesn't use sidechains, and it's highly unlikely Bitcoin will ever get around to implementing them either (since they can't even solve scalability).

My perception is that sidechains are a bad idea anyway, better to use alts than bitcoin side chains which would be very constraining. Dash incentivised nodes seems like the best way forward than I'm aware of.

You can compare number of full nodes on popular cryptos, Dash with much smaller market cap already has similar number of nodes to bitcoin. Contrast with Monero which only has a few hundred nodes. Not sure about eth I don't see any innovation there in terms of scaling blockchain in fact it will bloat worse than bitcoin.

Having said all that at the moment Dash has had a great run, maybe it can run to new highs versus bitcoin but its at a similar level now where previous runs have ended so realistically the option of selling while high should be considered. This isn't trading advice, personally I'm holding at the moment.
850  Economy / Speculation / Re: Manipulation finished. Bubble popping. on: February 26, 2017, 11:46:28 PM
Prepare for free fall guys. The manipulators have taken enough of your money for now and will let the price plummet again to 300-500 levels in order to play the same game all over again.

Anyone thinking this is a free market is delusional. 99% of all coins owned by 5 people lol.
And who are these 5 people and if you knew this much you can very well provide their names as well, with this thread it looks like you are delusional to the core ,manipulation in a market is a regular occurrence and traders like to cash in the maximum during these times and even if the price of the coin touches rock bottom traders will find a way to earn money from it.

I don't think the current trends are price manipulation. It is pure, unadulterated, free market.
Price manipulation is illegal and could land you in jail if proven in a court of law.

I consider bitcoin is a rare example of a market not centrally controlled.
851  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Science Institute openly foresees Bubbles on: February 26, 2017, 11:44:26 PM
I am a bit confused but what is meant by that bubble word? Is it a representation of a price going down or up?

up.

and the word 'bubble' is applied because it's something that swells hugely only to pop soon after which is what it did after 2013 and we suffered the consequences.

the current price action has been a rally, but not a bubble imo. bubbles are fed by irrational exuberance piling on top of more irrational exuberance and they always end with a huge fall when the confidence fails.

Theres def potential for a bubble but I don't see it yet
852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 26, 2017, 12:26:57 PM
If you aren't interested in Monero then why the fuck are you the person posting the most on this thread for the last day or three?

Insecurity, I'd say. He's probably seen the transaction volume data indicating that Dash isn't growing in terms of real users, just speculative bagholders. Cognitive dissonance may make him consciously unaware of that fact that Dash is a house of cards, but the niggling doubt never dissipates. So he resorts to taking out his anxiety on legitimate projects. Sad!

That can equally explain why monero trolls infest the Dash Announcement thread every day. In fact considering I don't see any Dash trolling on here it better explains it.

Why the *bleep* I came here was to try and better understand the mind of the trolls who infest the Dash thread. I thought I might discover some more enlightened opinions on here, in their own turf, but I've been disappointed on the whole. I bid you all adieu.

Is that better smoothie ?

I've been racking my brains trying to think what has caused this great run by Dash and think it almost certainly might have been fluffy ponys scam video.

Talking of scam ripple isnt far ahead in market cap
854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: February 25, 2017, 10:23:54 PM
It is strongly recommended that everybody update to the latest version 12.0.2 as well as the latest sentinel.  Moocowmoo's Dashman makes this very quick and easy. The sooner most of the network is on 12.0.2 the earlier enforcement can be reenabled. It will be nice to get InstantSend back and not have to worry about the off-chance of a greedy miner not paying one of my nodes. Wink

https://github.com/moocowmoo/dashman

For those of you that are hands on, like me, all I had to do was update dashd and dash-cli by the usual method you use, and as for sentinel, it's very simple.  cd into your sentinel folder, wherever it is, and issue the command: git pull

It should download and merge everything you need into your sentinel.  You are finished.  Just restart dashd, no reindex required.

Thanks

Monero in US$

If I was interested in monero I'd look for support around 5$

edit: Btw although the chart says Dash you can ignore that. For purposes of this analysis I've hidden the Dash symbol on the chart

A quick 101 on memetics.

A meme dies faster if it's not constantly being reinvigorated and unnecessarily referenced...  particularly by those who want it to die in the first place.

Case study: Some years ago McDonalds launch a press offensive to rid itself of the stigma concerning the so-called "McJob" - to make the case that working at McDonalds is a proper career move and not just some debased stop-gap on the road to something more substantial.

Result: The term "McJob" goes pandemic within the meme-o-sphere, becoming more virulent and stronger than ever before. Before long, even low-grade jobs that have nothing to do with McDonalds are now referred to as McJobs. In response, McDonalds increase the press offensive further, which only makes the situation worse and fans the flames. The McJob meme begins to learn at a geometric rate and becomes self aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In the panic McDonalds tries to pull the plug, but the McJob meme fights back by offering free burgers to all its employees. Credibility is effectively nuked.

Two months ago, Dash was on death's door. It would have stayed that way had peeps not pointed to it's rotting corpse and invited TV cameras over to check out the smell.   Cry Cry Cry

You could have just typed "Streisand Effect" instead of that long boring story about McJobs.

I read Dawkins decades ago and don't need your Memetics 101 lesson.

If we stop calling fraud when we see Dash's ongoing fraud that would made us frauds.

If *you* want to be a fraud, fine.  Have fun.

But stop telling the rest of us what to do and don't do, m'kay?

The whiny, suspiciously-timed 'Leave Dash Alone!' crap is getting old.  It's obviously just pouting about (distorted) market caps.

We're going to continue our efforts to expose and destroy Evan's HYIP scam whether you like it or not.   Wink

Boring story? I even put in Terminator references to make it more exciting you ungrateful bastard.

Let me just kill this "suspiciously timed" crap right now: I'm currently shorting Dash. If I have any personal vested interest at all it's within that context. And it's certainly not whiny, you defensive dick.

With that being said, this whole "if you don't call out a fraud makes you fraud" crap isn't even logical. I know what Dash is about. Cursory glance of my entire post history should be evident.

Upward from that my only interest is Monero surviving solely for the politics. Chess is chess. There are good moves and bad moves. I'm only interested in the outcome.

As for you, you're free to make any move you want. But I'm sure as fucking certain that the morality of fickle Monero protagonists such as TrueCryptonaire is no better or worse than the morality of the Dash cult. You might want to remember that.

Do as you will.

858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: February 24, 2017, 09:36:46 PM
dam dash is on fire, will we see the 50$ mark soon? i think we will very soon

I don't think so. The value is now too high IMO. We are growing too fast.

We need to see the deployment of the Evolution project (with all the features included) for that. Even then.... i don't know for sure.

The problem is our competitors. In the alt world only Ethereum is a worthy rival.

X-posted from Dash Nation Slack:

I've seen several people in this slack who are worried about when the correction will come. This is very reasonable, and commendable even. Don't get caught up in the FOMO. I don't see a correction coming on the price of Dash (other than the typical oscillations, but nothing like going back to .017 or anything). It's important to remember that technically DASH is not worth $26 apiece. DASH is worth .022 BTC each, and BTC is worth 1160 each.

DASH's actual price (in Bitcoin terms) is at a reasonable level that we've seen several times before. As @toknormal  points out, there is every reason to believe that this price can and will climb in the coming weeks/months.

The second thing to remember is that the vast majority of our USD price gain comes from the BTC rise. We were at .0245 a year ago (or was it two?), but at that time our price was only $6, because BTC was sub-$300.  The reason we're seeing such high valuations right now is because we are increasing in price (in BTC terms) while BTC is increasing in price (in USD terms).

I fully expect a correction of BTC before the ETF news comes out, but of course I could be wrong. Also, a successful ETF throws all the charts and TA out the window.

Try not to think of it in terms of "Dash went from $8 to $26, so when is the bottom going to fall out?" Try to think of it in terms of "Dash went from .016 to .022, which is a reasonable increase over a couple month period." IMO of course...not investment advice, etc.

Have to agree with this for the most part. This price isn't really anything new in terms of BTC so we can't say Dash went from $8 to $26 to quickly. Most people invested in Dash probably got in through Bitcoin. I do think there will be a correction and looking at the chart you can see multiple flash drops. In one five minute candle we were at .0245 and .0225. That is almost a 10% fluctuation during a five minute cycle, obviously indicating the market is a little uneasy with the rise. In just three days Dash went from .018 to .024, a 60% rise. I don't think anything changed during those three days to justify a 60% increase. So we will probably see a mild correction, but this time around Dash might stay above .02 and keep that as a new bottom. If that happens, then that is pretty good price progress.

I don't know but lately I've seen some massive volumes in the Dash / US$ market, getting the impression myself its starting driving the price. I imagine many investors are reluctant to buy with their precious bitcoin hoard but don't mind throwing toilet paper fiat at it.
859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 24, 2017, 09:02:31 PM
Considering I'm doing quite well with my 'investment' I fail to see how I was scammed. Must be some weird logic that makes sense to Monero fanboys I suppose.

Good luck with your 'investment' too

There are a ton of people that made money on OneCoin too...

Ahh yes, the good old Argumentum ad PayCoin.   Cheesy

"Weird logic" = "Dash hasn't yet collapsed due to it being a scam, therefore it cannot and will never collapse due to being a scam."

For some reason, my post using Bernie Madoff an example of the flaw in that reasoning was reported and deleted.

Not sure why the mods want to help Dash scam people, but I'll be sure to give them hell for it when Dash collapses and people get hurt.
