921  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will Devcoin ever have value? on: December 01, 2013, 05:06:29 AM
Well, they're up 5x from 0.00000013 a couple weeks ago. But I'm not selling right now. Plenty of room for growth. Last time bitcoin had a rally like this, devcoins grew like crazy.

Disclaimer: I hold a bunch. Tongue
922  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can bitcoin and altcoins coexist? on: December 01, 2013, 05:01:31 AM
Many of the alts will die off eventually. But when bitcoin rallies, inevitably new blood loves to invest in alts, I can't explain it.  Smiley

Having said the above, I do think merge-mined coins are the most promising long term. NMC and DVC.
924  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Wanting to invest in some alt-coins on: December 01, 2013, 04:28:01 AM
I'm wary of putting anything into coins like NMC, PPC, FTC, TRC.... they have seen such huge growth recently, I'm not sure how much more to expect in the short-term prior to correcting. LTC too.
925  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Litecoin? on: December 01, 2013, 04:26:06 AM
So what is it supposed to be based off of in the future? Use? Its hard to imagine the point where people stop speculating or hoarding, and actually begin to treat it like a real currency.
I'm not worried about use as a currency. It can be mainly a store of value / speculative vehicle, like gold. No one transacts in gold. Mainstream use requires acquisition as a mainstream phenomenon.

People will just tell you to buy what they are holding. Tongue
927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Litecoin? on: December 01, 2013, 04:00:45 AM
It's all based in speculation at this point. But litecoin is far more speculative than bitcoin -- being much less developed, recognized, used or accepted.
928  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will Bitcoin Reach $10,000 One Day? on: December 01, 2013, 03:51:34 AM
My bet is on $10k and far beyond. But it could go to $0.  Cool

In the latter case, it can be good to take profits here and there, to secure at least your initial investment. Never sell too much, though.... Tongue
929  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need help with cryptsy on: December 01, 2013, 03:47:20 AM
okay, so i've successfully transferred one litecoin into cryptsy.  i want to try my hand with playing pump coins.  i realize that most of them will probably fail.  i'm riding waves and i have a strategy in mind.  the problem is that i don't understand the process of selling on cryptsy.  i setup a sell order for my single litecoin to buy a fraction of bitcoin.  but the order just sits there and it's not going through.  on btc-e the transactions are instantaneous.  what am i missing?  what do i need to do to make a buy or sell order go through to completion?  thanks guys!
If you set a sell order at/below the highest bid, it will go through. Crypsty's engine is quite slow right now, but it runs no differently than BTC-E. It also has much less liquidity.
930  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transferring cash from Mt.Gox to BTC-E on: December 01, 2013, 03:44:20 AM
Best way to get funds to BTC-E for litecoin is to buy back bitcoins, send to BTC-E and buy litecoins with bitcoins. Waiting for cash from MT Gox may take a very, very long time.

I suppose with litecoins you mean dollars?
i want some flexibility in purchasing litecoin and franctional bitcoin... something Mt.Gox cannot provide me at this time.

Thanks,
J

I just wrote a post on my blog about this:
http://btcgeek.com/cryptsy-alternatives/ Cryptsy is too slow at the moment, so hopefully some of these other exchanges would help people
I personally like Vircurex much better than Cryptsy. Some good options there. DVC is up 5x from its bottom a couple weeks ago. Tongue But obviously the draw of Crypsty is the extensive list of coins. I was never a fan of the interface of Coins-e, so never bothered with it.
932  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Late Adopter on: December 01, 2013, 03:39:07 AM
Still early adopters. I think we have some room to go higher from here on this current rally, but I think you will be able to buy at considerably lower prices.
933  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Exchange for Alt Currencies on: December 01, 2013, 03:37:04 AM
Crypsty is having a lot of problems right now. They say it is due to a high influx of new users. I use Vircurex to trade DVC/BTC.

Is Vircurex reliable? And how is it getting in USD?
Reliable? I haven't had any major problems. They obviously don't deal with the kind of volume that, say, BTC-E has. I don't deposit USD, but I think it may be problematic with Aurumxchange gone. Not sure what other services you can use to deposit USD.
934  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies Hangout on: December 01, 2013, 02:14:41 AM
do you believe btc is reaching 10,000 in 2014?

and 100,000 in next years??

Maybe, but selling it would then become impossible. Why would companies give you 100,000 dollars for bitcoins? Early investors would be rich and exchanges cant afford to buy BTC's from you.
What are you saying? Exchanges take commission on sales between two parties. There is no reason they cannot continue to do so at any price.

Credit card will be tough, generally. If you have cash and/or can do bank teller deposit/bank transfer/bank wire, check out the currency exchange subforum here or localbitcoins.

938  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to use alt coin wallets on: December 01, 2013, 01:34:33 AM
No different than bitcoin wallets. All the altcoins I use have the same QT wallet that bitcoin uses.

Why aren't businesses adopting bitcoin payments like crazy? we really should start with this now. Amazon, get on with it. We have to make this sustainable and not reliable on the fragile human psychology.

Because its still actually shit as a simple currency. Check reddit story of guy who buys a burito and has to wait an hour for confirmations, ends up paying them fiat aswell just to get home.

Uh, 0-confirm transactions are just fine for small purchases. Vendors need to get on with the program.
Yeah, this is ridiculous.
