961  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Guide] Easy to build bitcoin ATM - Includes Bill Collector on: September 12, 2022, 06:32:27 PM
Cool project, but it's not exactly an ATM, but rather a bitcoin selling machine.  Which is still cool.  I think of an ATM as having the ability to exchange cash for BTC, and vise versa.

It would also be fun e.g. to encourage people to throw their change (coins and / or bills, also depends on geographical location) into such a machine and get some sats via Lightning.

That would be a cool use case.  I wouldn't mind putting in my office at work, encouraging my cohorts to buy a few sats to get them interested.

As for the security of the device, there are a few things that can be done.  Like Accardo already mentioned, a small document safe as the main housing would be a decent idea.  Even more secure would be a safe with small slots cut into it that are aligned with the cash receptacles.  A heavy wooden cabinet could be built to house everything, and the weight of the safe and the wooden cabinet would reduce the risk that someone would could just pick up the unit and walk away with it.  Obviously the more secure you attempt to make it, the more expensive it becomes.

Can’t believe the Bears won. I put some btc on the Niners but I guess this is one of those times I’m “happy” to have lost the money. Still going to be a shitty season for them but this was impressive.

Congrats to your team starting the season off with a win.  That was actually a good game, and fun to watch...  Except for the part where the Niners lost.  Cry

EVEN my fucking Kicker Carted off on a fucking kickoff!

I'm sorry, but this had me LOLing my ass off.

I don't know how it feels being undefeated after game 1  Grin

I remember our first season with Harbaugh as our coach, I was coming down the mountain, turned on the radio to check the scores, and couldn't believe my ears when I heard the Niners had spanked the Bucs.  It must have been a similar feeling after being used to sucking for so long.

Tonight's game should be awesome with russ going back to Seattle well done nfl well done.

That is some good scheduling work by the NFL.  Wilson against...  Hmmm, does Seattle even have a QB?  IDK!  Undecided

I missed that game, did the giants kick ass or did the titans suck balls or was it somewhere in between?

Looks like the Giants pulled off a decent come back, here're the highlights:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrqkDFVyW-0

Was a good game for both teams, I really like Daboll's call to go for two with a bit over a minute left in the game.  The risk paid off, and any time the opposing team misses a field goal as time runs out makes for an instant classic.
963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Umbrel — Discussion, issues, solutions on: September 12, 2022, 03:22:40 PM
Didn't follow through with how Umbrel developed, but doesn't Umbrel since the first start already paved its way as a platform for self-hosting apps? not the one that was specifically made to run the Bitcoin ecosystem.
I'm 99% sure it always had self-hosting specifically Bitcoin software at its core concept since the very start. Media hosting and such, came later.

Below is an excerpt from the ReedMe file of version 0.1.2:

It's certainly not conclusive evidence that Umbrel was a bitcoin-centric OS even back then, and that's only the oldest release I found on github.  I only just started using Umberl a couple of weeks ago, so I have no personal experience with it's history or how it's evolved over the years.

It is interesting how they've recently spread out into a more generic "self-sovereign" OS by including apps like Nextcloud and media servers.

They always had the app store, but IMO it's going with too many things. And since it is designed to be run on an RPi, and one again IMO there is no 'stop new users from shooting themselves in the foot' setting. You can install everything and your node WILL crash (or at least both of mine did) due to lack of resources.

Yes you can do the same with Windows, OSX, *nix, and so on. Bu and once again IMO since it's supposed to be a BTC / Lightning node having all these other things, although nice is probably going to cause more issues.

-Dave

Honestly I've never had good luck running bitcoind and electrumx server on a RPi, not even version 4.  I blame myself; I've never cared for Raspian, and always run them with the latest version of Ubuntu server.  I've given away all my Raspberry Pis except for one version 4 that I use as a media server.

Currently I have a Dell SFF PC with an i5 processor, 16GB RAM, and a 1tb SSD on which I've installed Umbrel over Ubuntu Server 22.04.1.  Umbrel is running Bitcoind, Electrs, LND, Mempool, and Tailscale.  I also have Lightning Terminal and Ride the Lightning installed as well.  I've had this set up running for about two weeks now without any issues.

First week of fantasy football and almost everybody is disappointed in their performance.  Even the winners are disappointed.  And, I said almost everybody is disappointed.  I'll tell you who isn't disappointed; uncle nutildah.  Really, dude?  Saquon Barkley?  Who would have thought!  Be honest, are pre-draft performance-enhancing drugs involved?  Ayahuasca?
965  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bisq - Exchange, Decentralized. on: September 11, 2022, 08:28:10 PM
I guess bitcoinj has no compatibility with taproot (yet?), and since that's the library Bisq uses for all bitcoin functions, that's a limitation we need to cope with

I recall learning that bisq uses the bitcoinj library not long ago.  You're correct; as of the most recent major release of bitcoinj they've implemented sending to segwit v1 addresses, but have yet to implement creation of taproot addresses.

Here's an excerpt from the bitcoinj V0.16.0 release notes:
Implement BIP350 – Bech32m format for v1+ witness addresses.
Implement Taproot BIP341 – send to P2TR addresses. Receiving to and spending from P2TR addresses and chains will be implemented in a future release.

However, it's still not possible to send to a taproot address from the Bisq wallet.  Here's what I get when I try:

966  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: September 08, 2022, 03:47:21 PM
Lamar was my fourth choice, however,

Jackson is a media darling, and that's the only success he's be able to enjoy in his career.  His highlight reals are awesome, so he must be the best FF QB, right?  I wasn't at all surprised to see him ranked right under Allen in Yahoo's projections, despite being outscored by the likes of Ryan Tannehill and Kirk Cousins last year.  He's way over-rated as a QB, in my opinion.  I would have taken a second year rookie before picking Lamar.

I ended up taking the Rams at ML and +3.5... for some reason +2.5 wasn't an option on my betting site, and I hate football numbers (3), so 3.5 ought to cover it pretty good.

Live bold, my friend!  I just took a look at the odds market, thinking about placing a bet, and I felt so lost, lol.  It's so difficult to make a prediction on the first game of the season, so many things can happen.

Anyway, you guys have a great weekend, enjoy the games, and best of luck to all of you with your fantasy teams.

It's closing weekend of B-Zone Archery, so I'm going to be out in the sticks, incommunicado.  I hope to be back in civilization in time to catch the Niner's game on Sunday morning, but that'll require a deer's cooperation.  Priorities, priorities...
967  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bisq - Exchange, Decentralized. on: September 07, 2022, 09:31:50 PM
For those of you who are using bisq, I'm sure you've already seen the update notice informing you of version 1.9.5 having been released about a week ago.  The new P2P connectivity GUI indicator is a pretty cool feature.  At least now when you're browsing through offers, and one times out you'll know if it's your connection or the other party.  I haven't had one time out since the new version, and since I have a couple of instances running from time to time, I've notice that if one instance is having connection issues, the offers from that instance will not be visible to others.  So, I figure the issue with timing out once taking an offer shouldn't be as big of an issue anymore.

Still no Taproot address compatibility, I guess it was wishful thinking to interpret "Prepare Bisq for bitcoin-core v23 compatibility" meant taproot implementation.
968  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite will add a CoinJoin mixing protocol on: September 07, 2022, 08:58:51 PM
I've got to question the smartness of submitting addresses from your hardware wallet directly to a blockchain analysis company for surveillance and monitoring by using Wasabi, especially since Trezor (if you use their software) can link all the addresses in your hardware wallet together. Sounds like a nightmare partnership for privacy.

I read about this yesterday, and I must say I'm really disappointed in Trezor's management team for doing this.  There are other centralized coinjoin providers they could have implemented into Trezor Suite, but partnering with any centralized agency seems like a betrayal to their customers.  If someone would have asked me two days ago to wager on whether Trezor or Ledger was more likely to pull such a stunt, I would have bet the farm on Ledger...

I don't use Trezor suite myself, at least not for transacting with my bitcoin, and have very few alts to worry about.  The saving grace for Trezor suite has been that it's possible to assign your own SPV (Electrum) server, and it also allows you to use Tor for network connectivity.  So, even if you are using Trezor's SPV servers there're ways to at least obfuscate your IP address.  If one were to use Wasabi via Trezor Suite, all of these privacy features they've provided suddenly become meaningless.

I really would have expected more from Trezor, I'm literally heartbroken buy this news.

Repayment Period : 1 month

Repayment Amount : $800

Receiving Address USDT (ERC-20) : 0x6885fAA606dF224C6da539F078597d93e4D0Fb09

If you agree to make an agreement, please leave your message, so we can agree on the conditions. And then execute it.

Thank you.

Do you have any collateral?

In case you're unaware, newbies don't get non-collateralized loans here.  Unless you have Bitcoin or some other alt-coin to offer as collateral, you are unlikely to get a loan, and more likely to get tagged as a scammer.

More can be learned about collateral suggestions here:

Another thing to note; unless your deal involves bitcoin this offer should be in the Alt-Coin marketplace, not here.

Good luck.

Don't you feel awkward on asking me where and why I spend my bitcoins? You are not my government legal/tax entity to ask such questions.
Please tell me how much you earn per month, where you live, provide a copy of your drivers license, and explain in details how you spent your money between February 14 and March 14 last year Cheesy

You forgot to ask about any identifying tattoos or birthmarks, and the name of his first-born male child.   Tongue

Really, who the fuck do these people think they are?  After behaving this way for the last two or three years, one would think that the more rational DT members purge them from their inclusions.  It's like they've all gotten so drunk on power they have to intimidate and harass less prominent members to give their lives meaning.
978  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: September 05, 2022, 10:43:27 PM
@ChiBitCTy. This is also a very good game between the Rams versus the Bills! How will you bet this with the Bills playing in the Rams' stadium? Home advantage is on the Rams, however, the Bills are better than the Rams.  Also, this is Thursay night football hehehe. The Rams being the underdog might win but also take +2.5 for protection?

Oh yeah it’s a great opening game. I’m currently trying to decide how to bet it. I would have to disagree that the Bills are better than the Rams, I mean the Rams did just win a Super Bowl. That said I could see an argument for either team. As you mentioned the Rams have home field advantage which is pretty big so I think I’m leaning their way at getting the +2.5.

I might place a bet just for fun, but I think I'll wait until the game is underway.  It's so hard to make accurate predictions for opening weekend, but it is fun.  As for whether the Ram or Bills are the better team, I would just say that the Rams aren't quite the same team that won the Super Bowl last year.  They do have some of their main talent back, but it's still left to be seen how well they do this year.  It's also worth noting that even though they won the super bowl last year, they lost twice to a Niners team that wasn't all that great either.  The Rams had a good run when it counted the most, that's for sure.

979  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Split: How to create an Electrum wallet on Android on: September 05, 2022, 06:18:01 PM
If you're putting together a tutorial for 2fa Electrum wallet, it might be prudent to mention the associated fees.  Also, it seems pointless to have 2fa if you're going to have both, the wallet and the 2fa secret on the same device.

Furthermore, if you were to set up 2fa as it should be set up; i.e. the wallet on one device and the 2fa secret on another; you might as well make a 2 of 2 multi-sig wallet, instead.  You are left in total control, no third key held by some other entity/person, you don't pay 2fa fees, and since you're the only one with any signing keys, your privacy is enhanced.
980  Economy / Reputation / Re: Crypt0S0ul is spamming... on: September 05, 2022, 05:26:51 PM
You always see me creating drama with this account because I use this account only whenever I feel it's controversial.

Well, that's a problem, in my opinion.  If you aren't confident enough to post an accusation from your main account, why post it from an alt?  I'm not suggesting you only post accusations from your main account, I value everyone's privacy and encourage people to use alts if they have a specific privacy need for one.  There are plenty of legitimate reasons to use alts, and exposing cheaters is a valid one.  But at least use the "would I post this from my main account" measuring stick to consider whether a post is worth publishing.

As LoyceV alluded to; countless threads about exposed bounty cheaters who are relegated to the armpit of the forum anyway, is pointless.  If they're spamming, report them to the bounty manager and the mods.  If there's a legitimate abuse of a forum rule or signature campaign, and you're confident in your findings, you shouldn't even feel the need to use an alt.  The example LoyceV provided is absolutely perfect.  Uncle nutildah didn't need an alt to expose the figmentofmyass farm.  That farm included DT1 members and popularity among other high ranking members of the forum.  There was a very real risk of retaliation against nutildah for what he was posting, but did that scare him into hiding behind an alt?  No, because he was 100% confident in the evidence he was presenting to the forum.

So, I'll ask a question to those established members who reward this kind of behavior; what value do these Alt Hunters actually add to the forum?
Then again, maybe I'm not the one you were talking to Wink

I posed the question rhetorically, I don't need or want any one to answer.  And I certainly don't want to call anyone out, as I'm not claiming innocence myself.  I posed the question to get us all think about the ways the forum has evolved over the last few years, and whether some of the changes are necessarily good just because they may appear that way on the surface.
