1641  Other / Meta / Re: Who is online? on: June 28, 2023, 09:26:13 PM
I mean, a link to click and see the list of all online bitcointalk users at that time.
Not the one that displays with green signal beside the profile information.
Not everything should be seen easily in public, but how about trying this link to see who is online.
This doesn't include all the users who disabled online status in their profile settings, but you can see individually their Last Active time.

Some improvements to the website
Maybe you can think about adding one more thing called Hardware Wallet Compatibility and Security Rating.
I recently saw this introduced in cer.live website and I like the initial idea, but I don't like how they are doing it and this needs to be improved.
For hardware wallets this should mean how easy is to integrate and connect third party software wallets with hardware wallets.

If you examine cer.live website you will see they rated highest Trust wallet (for Bitcoin), Metamask (for Holdding and Security?!), ZenGo (for monile), etc.
Security rating for Electrum wallet is lowest  Roll Eyes

1644  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin Secure Multisig Setup (BSMS) Backup on: June 28, 2023, 08:34:14 PM
I am not creating a custom splitting solution. I am searching for any standard or good practice.
I don't like the idea to store that on a password manager, because you are centralizing your backup there and complicating the inheritance.
You don't have to decentralize everything, and you can add additional protection with KeyFile in KeePass, so you will have more secure split backup that way.
I was not talking about using any random online password managers or any cloud backups.

I got confirmation from Nunchuk that they are working on support exporting to BCR-2020-010.
So imagine this gets supported with Nunchuk and they stop existing as a company/team in next few years for some (legal or financial) reason... there will be nobody to support this anymore.

0.001 BTC
I don't understand why Huobi and Poloniex exchange have such a high withdrawal fee... around $30 is a lot with current btc mempool state, but maybe they are making profit like this  Tongue
Based on this table and after recent Kucoin changes, it seems to me that MEXC looks like next best option, but it's certainly not without risk to use it.
Many if not all centralized exchanges got hacked at some point.
1646  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kucoin to introduce mandatory KYC on: June 28, 2023, 07:13:23 PM
So that's it, as we've all predicted, this was just a matter of time. Kucoin will officially introduce mandatory KYC starting next month (15 of July)[1]
This is obvious push to restrict all centralized exchanges as government puppets are working on canceling cash and introducing their own digital slave currencies aka CBDC.
I don't think this is such a bad thing, mostly because all centralized exchanges showed that users can't really trust them, and Kucoin is not an exception.
Maybe this will push even more users towards decentralized exchanges and P2P trading, that is much safer and nobody can force you to perform any verification.
I just hope more developers will work on improving dex solutions and making them easy to use both on mobile and desktop devices, with more fiat currencies.
Having said all that, I still hope there will be few more cex available to use in next few years.

You did not get a reply because we simply ignore support requests where users forget or don't save their private keys, this was the general consensus when we had the same issue a few weeks ago.
My opinion is that you should still reply to received support emails, and write him at least one simple explanation, this can even be general reply email.
Keeping quiet and not replying anything is not a good idea, unless you receive obvious spam messages.
He has letter of guarantee so he deserves some answer.

What if we refund this user based on the guarantee letter and then we receive another support request from 'someone else' with the same guarantee letter while also having the private key telling us that he doesn't see his balance on Whirlwind anymore and accuses us of scamming? Do we refund that user as well?
How can there be two (or more) exact same letters of guarantee?
(Not counting that someone hacks in user computer and steals the original document).

1648  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Possible Evil-Maid Attacks on Blockstream Jade on: June 27, 2023, 10:08:41 PM
I'd like to hear your thoughts on how this might impact the Jade DIY.
It's interesting that ledger donjon team mostly reports about issues with open source wallets....just saying  Cool
They are doing great job with all other wallets except with their own ledger device.

Back on Jade, I knew that ESP32 based devices are never going to be perfect as hardware wallets, that is why I like the idea of not storing anything but importing seed with QR code scan each time.
This can be few second/minutes slower than for regular wallets but it's much safer, and seed should be erased each time when power is turned down.
With this approach there is no communication with server for passwords.

Jade now has locking by server if PIN is entered wrong 3 times, and few months ago I researched this, each hardware wallet have different approach but only Jade communicates with server:

1649  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin Secure Multisig Setup (BSMS) Backup on: June 27, 2023, 09:46:03 PM
But having access to that file reveals the funds of the multisig wallet, so I think is not a good idea to store it in plain text. It should at least be encrypted so you can decide who can access it. Splitting the BSMS content into multiple QRs shares would be ideal, so you can distribute each share in different locations.
Please don't create your own custom splitting solutions for anything.
This is a sure recipe for disaster and can result in losing of all your coins (not saying you are doing this).
I think that overcomplicating things can often create more problems if you don't know exactly what you are doing, and if you are not aware of all the risks.

Not sure if there is another tool/app that can export a BSMS file in "BCR-2020-010" format.
Any ideas or opinions?
QR codes can be tricky and often times they are not supported with all apps.
I will have to check SeedHammer and say my opinion about it tomorrow, but simple alternative is to save this data in offline password manager like KeePass (if you have strong password protection).
KeePass is already encrypted and it have decent protection, but you will again have to backup and/or remmebmer password for that.
This is not pefrect solution but it's much better than saving data in plain text.
1650  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Petition to remove Wasabi from recommendations of bitcoin.org on: June 27, 2023, 09:30:19 PM
So you are fine with Bitcoin.org having other outdated wallets like Armory and Bither, or BitPay that is openly restricting usage to some regions and demand kyc for their payment processor, but you just want to remove Wasabi wallet? Roll Eyes
I am fine with people not liking Wasabi (I dont like their new interface) and having issues with their coinjoin implementation, but this is still open source wallet and it works fine without that OPTIONAL coinjoin feature.
If you want to waste your time you can go for it and write email to Cobra that won't have any result whatsoever.
Much better suggestion for bitcoin.org is to add open source hardware wallets.

Many people may not like my opinion and they may disagree with me, but if I look at the Wasabi wallet, the conversation is about the privacy and not the security. There were no reports or complaints about hacking or seed bugs, and therefore there is no need to remove it.
the WalletScrutiny report, which proved that most of the existing wallets are closed source, have weak programming, or have currency security problems.
Yeah but some people like hating wasabi, and I think they are hoping someone will hack wasabi  Cheesy
I agree that saying that something is open source is not enough for wallet to be good, and websites like Walletscrutiny and Bitcoinbinary are very good addition.

Actually it's matter of preferences. I find entering email address (which i already create and remember) faster and easier. In addition, you don't have to remember your password if you use online password manager.
It doesn't have to be online password manager, even offline password managers like KeePass can remember all your passwords, and they are much safer in my opinion.
1654  Other / Meta / Re: Hiding your Profile name in Public place ? on: June 27, 2023, 07:28:41 PM
Instead of just hiding my username and leaving blank space I would much rather like to see using randomly generated characters (as my username) each time I use bitcointalk forum.
I guess this would be trivial modification for TryNinja, so instead of being theymos I could for example be renamed to something like this: s71(qQ]MCn4VZ2zCVhg]}YZwp.
Advantage is that it's hard for anyone to remember and repeat this randomly generated characters.
1655  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best non Kyc exchange on: June 27, 2023, 06:33:52 PM
I know Bisq exchange is good but you can't trade with it on it mobile app (and not every traders has a pc ) and is not really beginner's friendly.
Bisq is a great choice if you want to use it on your computer, but there is one very good alternative for mobile devices and it's called Peach Bitcoin.
This app is available on iOS and Android devices and it can be used for p2p trading of Bitcoin with fiat currencies in Europe, all that without any kyc verification (with some limitations).
One thing I don't like is that PeachBitcoin is not open source, but they announced license will be modified to MIT+CC soon.
You can do your own research here:
https://peachbitcoin.com/

AtomicDex is another exchange that can be used on mobile devices but only for trading with crypto, not with fiat currencies.
Volume is not that great for some smaller altcoins, but it works.
https://atomicdex.io/

Another good resource to explore is kycnot website:

1656  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 36 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature on: June 26, 2023, 07:41:43 PM
I don't see any way to pay with crypto on Ledger official website. Just credit card, Paypal o Google Pay
They are using centralized third party payment processors Bitpay and Crypto.com, they are obviously restricting some countries and locations, and it's much better to switch to BTCPay Server..
I think this can easily be fixed with vpn or tor, but this could create some problems with delivery address location, and I wouldn't waste a single satoshi on ledger hardware wallets.

PS
I saw this new upcoming ledger special fed edition wallet somewhere... but no need to add it on your website/list Wink

1657  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: June 26, 2023, 07:31:25 PM
I'm not interested in this cloud backup myself, because I'm happy with my current backup solutions. However I like the idea of having a way to back up the wallet configuration (user settings, account labels, ...) - without private keys. I even pondered about a standardized format for this a while back; something like a universal 'wallet export / import format'.
That would be a good idea to have, losing labels is almost like losing all your history and content behind all your transactions.
I think some other hardware wallets have a way of exporting and saving this, but I would like to have something like smartphones have, export all settings and data in encrypted offline way.

From what I can tell, this cloud backup only refers to the hot wallet, making it completely 'fine'. To the best of my knowledge, Envoy cannot access Passport's seed phrase at all; that's the whole point of a hardware wallet. Grin
Export to cloud is bad in my opinion for both hot and cold wallets, but I hope this is at least optional ''feature''.
If I remember correctly this ''secure'' iCloud was recently hacked and I don't trust any cloud solutions very, much, that is just other people hard drives.

Hi all, just to confirm, Magic Backups is for our Envoy hot wallet only. It has nothing to do with Passport.
But Envoy is connected with Passport so this can be confusing for some people.
I would add clear notification that holding anything in cloud is never going to be secure as keeping backup offline.
Is Magic Backups feature optional or not?

We feel that Magic Backups can greatly aid onboarding new users to Bitcoin in a way that is drastically easier, without giving up custody and with an easy path to a more standard seed backup once they're comfortable with that. Once a user backs up their seed, we also have the functionality directly in Envoy to delete their seed from their Apple/Google account and delete their app data (we never store their seed, even encrypted) from Foundation's servers, if they so choose.
Easier is not better option most of the time.
Hunter Biden had all his dirty photos saved in his ''secure'' iCloud account, and look how that ended up.  Tongue

1658  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2023 List Bitcoin Mixers Bitcoin Tumblers Websites on: June 26, 2023, 06:57:28 PM
Are there any mixers for other coins than Bitcoin, for example BCH? How it would work with ETH?
There are several mixers for ethereum (similar like tornado cash), but there is already monero that has built in ''mixer'' that is much better than any other centralized shitcoin mixing service.
I think that litecoin also introduced mimblewimble for better privacy, and bch has cashfusion mixing with electrum cash wallet, but I don't think volume is very good.
If you want to mix ethereum it's best to atomic swap it with monero and than maybe swap in bitcoin.
