cbuchner1: Awesome work on the maxcoin release. I will surely be sending over some coins when I get my internet back (bad weather here, just barely online via mobile). You make the 'green team' proud!  Grin

Earlier there was a post about new/next cudaminer development opportunities, and I have two suggestions to make:

Protoshares - popular, highly valued, already has a gpu miner available (only binary I think), though it appears to be far from reaching optimal performance on nvidia, so likely opencl only at the moment. My single GTX 770 earns me a little over .5 PTS a day (1GH pool) and only using 70% power. (1PTS trades for 0.015BTC)

Primecoin - popular, currently CPU only (suspecting this one would prove to be a challenge in terms of optimizing for GPU at all, but perhaps cuda specifically would make it worthwile). It's not highly valued, but stable and also very popular. The potential on this one is for a GPU implementation to break into new performance figures, thus making it largely profitable for a relative time.

I hope this comes across as helpful. I would love to help with code but lack the skill-set, so instead I'm looking to save Christian's time in going through all the altcoins to work out the most interesting (or challenging) opportunities ahead. I'll be happy to to test any development version to support new coins, however broken or buggy a release is - but I only take binaries though Smiley

On Riecoin that was just mentioned: It's technically very similar to Primecoin, but yet to be launched. Interesting opportunity if it is found to reach a good coin value for the relative performance in GPU mining, but I don't see that it has the hype or following to produce the same returns as the ones I mentioned above (or even a fraction of Maxcoin for that matter).

Cheers!

- PTS cudaminer is originally opensource from dga. 1gh GPU miner is just a derivation from it, I suspected (like cgminer_keccak inspired by our mighty Christian's cudaminer). Try to inform yourself first before making some statements.
- Calculating prime number with GPU is a given problem from long ago. Almost a few decades and nobody was able to do it. I don't think we will have it soon.
1822  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Unofficial UltraCoin (UTC) thread - without dev moderation on: February 10, 2014, 05:32:37 PM
Thanks for the info. I dumped all my UTCs.
I believe you guys saying the truth, but IMHO, whatever scam coin or 100% premined coin, as long as enough hype for the coin, they will go strong.
Look at Maxcoin, true pump and dump coin, but as long as people making profit, they don't care.

Just bad for some investors who jumped in too early.
1823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SCRYPT JANE] UltraCoin (UTC) - Newly Launched on: February 10, 2014, 03:35:54 PM
Someone massive DDoSes all the pools so the diff goes down so fast. I can't connect to any pool again.
1824  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 11:37:20 AM
Damn I missed it when it was 500$. Now it bounces back to 600$. We could easily earn 20% from those panic sellers in a few minutes. Rising or crashing won't even bother me.
1825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 09:11:51 PM
Vertcoin is currently very profitable.

Moreso than Maxcoin?

I checked two hours ago. Diff drops 30% but the price drop 50% as well. Still none in comparison to Maxcoin. But if you still want to mine scrypt-jane coins, mine UTC or MRC. My profit calculator said UTC 2x and MRC 1.5x more profitable than VTC.  Grin
1826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 06:09:55 PM
Christian I got my first 1mil MRC after 3 hours of mining. It is somehow too fast or I'm just too lucky today Cheesy
1827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 06:03:07 PM
i just started pool mining. and yep the same 4 people. will be me, you, bathrobe, and christian until the next big hit haha

31/47 shares on max.netcodepool.org

ouch!

EDIT

almost at 50% rejected now, this is aweful lmao

max.netcodepool.org is bad for cudaminer.

Try https://max.hashfaster.com or pool.chunky.ms/max.

These two have better accepted rates for me.
1828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 03:45:20 PM
MRC is way too cheap since start. How much MRCs do you manage to get with 1Mhs, Christian ? UTC is more profitable, I assume ?

sitting on 28 million MRC right now, of which 5 were donated to me.  I mined MRC with 3 Mhash/s if I am remembering correctly.

I should have sold everything on the day I got or mined it, as the exchange rate went down badly.

With UTC I had bad luck solo-mining and only found 2 blocks. I should have pool mined it.

Christian

UTC diff triples the last few days so no wonder that you can't solomine anymore. 28 million MRC is equal .7 BTC. It will go up, Christian. I try to get my first million MRC now.
1829  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 03:09:07 PM

The problem is I don't know how to define "high" N-factor. 10 is already high or from 13 ?? I got 500 khs for GTX 780 with T-config and N=9 (MRC). You think it is ok ?

trial and error I would say. It also depends on how much RAM there is on your card. For a 1 GB card the "high" N-factors start earlier than for 4GB cards.

For MRC I get 500 also using -l T24x24

"high" would start around N-factor 12 I think.

Christian

Thanks for answering, Christian. I will test a few configs and report here.

What kind of scrypt-jane coin do u mine right now Christian? The kernel setting for scrypt-jane coin is the same for every N-factor, it is right ?

nope, high N-factor scrypt-jane coins must use lower case kernels (f,k,t) for efficient mining - and also investigate the use of lookup gap.
Yac mining works best with higher lookup gaps in the range of 4-7 on powerful nVidia GPUs.

There should be an optimal kernel config for each N-factor. Sorry about that Wink  Autotune will help a great deal

with low N factor coins use upper case letter kernels and I think the optimal settings will not be so strongly dependent on the exact N factor.

Christian

much less profitable if you don't have that hashing power... I think it will be my last day on maxcoin.

Yep I agree. I have stop my cudaminer to Maxcoin and point back to scrypt-jane. We have lost our advantages. AMD is much more efficient and faster for keccak. My R9 280x got 320 Mhs and draws only 230w, for scrypt is 740Khs and draws 300w. Maxcoin is still very profitable for AMD folks.

Like Christian has stated before, nVidia only has advantages with more memory extensive tasks like scrypt-jane.

you could mine a few more and speculate on a rising coin value later on. That's what I did with MRC. And I still hold a few UTC.

What's your setup like, and settings?

I think he mentioned 7 GHash/s with AMD...

I manage to squeeze out 1 Ghs more with my last 2xR9 290 today. But 2Ghs performance from your cudaminer doesn't change, Christian. And at the first day of this madness I was able to earn 10BTCs with our advantage cudaminer.
1833  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 01:13:05 PM
looking back in the thread, I think the madness started here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.3820

and I hereby declare that we are back to normal operations. Wink

lol I think so. Diff goes up to over 54k and the price drops to 0.002 already. It seems that my prediction is right again. Although it comes sooner than I expected but I think we having fun the last 3 days, and we are able to give you a little to your birthday, Christian Wink

What's your setup like, and settings?

Sorry I miscalculate because the diff goes faster than I expected. Only 0.5BTC per day. I have 8Ghs SHA-3 in total, so earning estimates are 250 MAX/day ( Yesterday I was able to get 500 MAX).
1834  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 01:05:36 PM
Yes I am waiting on it aswell. I made enough from the maxcoin to pay off my bills. Other coins are just about paying for themselves. So I may aswell wait for the next big coin :-)

Still earning 1BTC daily with Maxcoin. two times more profit as altcoins. I wonder how the multipool & co folks think about this. They mining DOGE all the time lol. To think we earn their whole month salary in just one day with Maxcoin. lol Sorry but I can't stop smiling right now
1835  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 01:16:32 AM
Btw how was your birthday ?  Grin Old man like you and me should not party much. Cheesy

I tried to cure my headache and watched over my 2 year old son during the afternoon while my wife went shopping.

No party - what a sad day Wink  I had to mourn my age appropriately.

Christian

Yeah we are earning enough the last 2 days for the lady going shopping. I will buy a nice present for my wife too since I have neglected her the past two days because of this madness.  Grin

Good night Christian. Don't dig in your cudaminer tonight. You deserve some rests.

FYI, my earning with max.hashfaster.com was 20 Max per 1.5 hours with 7Ghs. Pretty decent with this diff now.

1836  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 09, 2014, 01:06:39 AM
Weird, my fastest worker (3 GTX 780Ti ~ 540 MHash) gets just 80% accepted shares on max.netcodepool.org, but the other two workers (300 MHash and 178 MHash) get 96% and 98% accepted.  As if faster workers have more trouble with the pool. Unusual.

Christian.

My fastest worker gets 95% shares on max.netcodepool.org but some slower workers just 60% shares. So bad that I never seen in my life. I stop mining with this pool. max.hashfaster.com is better for me.

Btw the price drops as I predicted. My prediction for this madness in next two days:
- Price drops to 0.001
- Diff goes up to 100k.

By then mining Maxcoin will be the same profitable as another altcoins.

Just my 2 cents.  Grin

The one thing separating this alt from others is that its being hyped up Kesier though... he's BTC rich, could easily buy up the orderbook to 0.05 for publicity's sake. It went from 0.007 to 0.04 on MCXnow in a matter of minutes the night this was released so could happen again. Who knows. Already made quite a bit from mining so I'll hold onto some of it.

Yep he's master of hype. Of course some people get rich quick that means some people lose money. But I don't feel bad for people who buy my Maxcoin sell order at 0.04 anymore. Maybe 1 year later they laugh at me and show that shit will worth 1 BTC Cheesy

yeah, but until then let's all ride the gravy train. Weeeeee!

Yeah too bad that we don't have advantage anymore. But I think it is unimportant.
For such madness, the first one always catches the worm.
Because of you we nVidia folks are able to get Maxcoin when the diff is low and the price is high. You are outstanding.

Btw how was your birthday ?  Grin Old man like you and me should not party much. Cheesy

I am now getting only accepted shares from that pool, from 3 GPUs mining in a single cudaminer instance.
300 MHash from my side. Looking good.

After letting it run for a while I got 309/325 shares acccepted on max.netcodepool.org. That looks pretty reasonable for me.

Christian

Sounds like you're doing quite a bit better than me then...

well ouch!

per round I seem to be credited 0.35 MAX at 300 MHash/s

seems like this is lucrative. Hopefully payouts and everything else works as expected.

You have problem with smalltimeminer pool Christian ?

Your reject rates is 5%, it is the same as mine with smalltimeminer pool.
1840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 08, 2014, 10:28:16 PM
Even at 0.001 , 2 blocks a month earns me more then my dogemining

Let me know what you find please christian. I havent found a block since yesterday, and I need some to donate to you

That's like 4.5$ before electricity per day. Surely there are more profitable coins out there.

I actually dont know right now tbh.

You are still solomining even with only 1Ghs ? Nethash is 40Ths, dude. Even if you manage to find a block, it probably ends up orphan. Believe me. If you don't have more than 1/1000 of total nethash, solo mining is like playing lotto.

I have 7Ghs in total but I switched to poolmining yesterday already. So your payout is more secure.
