No as in Satoshi is a team of cypherpunks  Grin

Timelines of 2 prominent founders within this group coexist in a strange twist of political intrigue, intelligence agencies, disappearance and asylum

I like conspiracy theories, make it up as you go along so much easier

Make it up as you go.

That is what politicians, intelligence agencies and people stuck in asylums often do too.  Grin
1683  Other / Meta / Re: Are these posts deserve so much merits ??? on: July 17, 2018, 08:35:38 AM
Well I could give 50 merits to a post, but I can't conceive of one that is worth that much. I've only found half a dozen that I've awarded with 5. I think I gave 10 to seoinc, but that was for him to make some awards in the Spanish community.

What post would be worth 50 merits?

I can think of two for sure:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5.msg28#msg28 Welcome to the new Bitcoin forum! by Satoshi

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155054.msg1643833#msg1643833 and in my opinion the best post on the entire forum: Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney)

1684  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Russia charged with hacking the DNC on: July 17, 2018, 08:25:15 AM
It is hard to know what is true or not in such a political environment.

There is motive to lie...

There is motive for it to be the truth...

Hopefully some day world conflicts will be fought in the wrestling ring by the leaders that cause them.

1685  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: SCOTUS LOST ALL LEGITIMACY BY MAKING XPOLINATIONWARFARE LEGAL on: July 17, 2018, 02:14:30 AM
Patent trolls are real. It is a multi-million dollar industry.

Nothing should be patent-able.

Especially food or medicine.

The largest part of food was created naturally and therefore is "creative commons" - why should you be able to alter a small part and claim a patent over the whole lot ?

The argument that patents encourage research is nonsense. If patents wouldn't be an issue there would be a lot more data sharing an efficiency.

Even copyright can often be kind of lame. Corporations benefit from it more than any artists.

Name squatters like trademarking the work "bitcoin" on T shirts. Effectively they stole the name from the public domain to apply it to another industry. Nothing creative or unique about it. Just theft in my opinion.
1686  Other / Meta / Re: How do I skip the junk posts? (also proposal) on: July 17, 2018, 01:53:52 AM
I'd like to read through threads in their entirety, however there are so many junk posts nowadays that I quit when I have to read more than a few pages.

It would be nice to have a rating system, and the ability to filter our the junkier posts by selecting the minimum rating of post to read.

Perhaps rating a post should be restricted to Full members and above and the right should be taken away to people with higher ranks that abuse it.

Say there is a post with 1000 replies.... Say the rating is 1-5 stars. I only want to read decent replies so I choose to only read 4-5 star replies.

Suddenly I only have to read 100-500 (numbers are made up) replies to be fully up to date.

Maybe we can also tag posts by kind of off topic and really relevant from 1-5.

Then I only want topics that are 4-5 stars relative....

Now I might have to read only 50-250 replies to get up to date. (Numbers are made up)

In theory it is a fantastic idea. In practice it won't work and this is why:

1) Political reasons. Some people are not popular and will be voted down. Some of these people do sometimes have valuable contributions and I like to read them. Without the stirrers and objectors it has the risk of becoming a pompous, self-congratulatory discussion where little to no progress is made.

2) Spammers and scammers have many accounts currently. They will be voting up crap posts - just like they merit crap posts. How does an escrow service or ANN thread become a higher merited post than Hal Finneys post ? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=toptopicsat
Just like shills and bots are constantly bumping up threads.

Some noobies have great stuff to say. Whether they are learning by asking questions, participating or contributing ideas.
On the contrary - some older accounts are long-term spammers, scammer, bought or stolen.

1687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto ? Suspects, frauds and conspiracies on bitcointalk on: July 17, 2018, 01:30:19 AM
Satoshi Nakamoto is still alive and I believe the conspiracy theory that he is still active on this bitcointalk forum and part of the administrator of the forum. But my problem is how will anyone with the skills to invent such a great technology will be hiding.

Whether alive or not. There are very good reasons to be hiding.

Some people do not seek fame, Government attention, Media attention or wealth. Some people do things because it is the right thing to do and prefer to hide from the limelight.

Privacy - a common saying is if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about.

Cool - I'm happy to take away your curtains and your toilet door ! Others will be happy to steal your identity and possessions.

I'm not seeking Satoshi.
I'm seeking who is not Satoshi.

Lips sealed   Cool

I agree. There will be many charlatans claiming to be Satoshi.

It is the only hindrance of not knowing his identity.

One big red flag is when someone utters "I am Satoshi" as I don't believe the real Satoshi would say that.

We are satoshi?
Grin

We as in Me, Myself and I ?

I think everyone participates in Satoshis vision. Some positively and some not...

For the record, logs I have are stored in multiple locations and I have also made sure that people who I can assume to trust in the Bitcoin space know my identity.

I'm quite excited that someone like you, bitcoinFX (user number 30 !) is here on the forum able to relay some of his experiences. Without these very early adopters bitcoin would not be where it is now. There are contributors all along the way in different roles but it is something very unique if you can take part in something like this right at the start.

What would make an awesome book to read is if most of the people involved early on in bitcoin all wrote one page or one chapter each.
1689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto ? Suspects, frauds and conspiracies on bitcointalk on: July 16, 2018, 10:31:23 PM
Re: the recent: Paper: Duality: An excerpt - http://nakamotofamilyfoundation.org/duality.pdf

Back to the topic then ...

The paper contains a couple of references to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ...

" ... The number 42 is, in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, the "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything", calculated by an enormous supercomputer named Deep Thought over a period of 7.5 million years. Unfortunately, no one knows what the question is. Thus, to calculate the Ultimate Question, a special computer the size of a small planet was built from organic components and named "Earth". The Ultimate Question "What do you get when you multiply six by nine" was found by Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect in the second book of the series, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. ... "

and

" ... In Japanese culture, the number 42 is considered unlucky because the numerals when pronounced separately—shi ni (four two)—sound like the word "death". ...

oh, and not forgetting the most important bit ...

So, .... some facts and some fiction here perhaps?

Remember : The next time someone asks you to explain how Bitcoin works ... Tell them it works like a chain of 'solved' rubiks cubes (magic cubes), where all the contained transaction data must match up (like the faces of the cube), before any work on the next cube (block) can commence.

Magic Internet Money - Who knew ?  Smiley

 Cool

I demolished that paper as a hoax here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4505532.msg41493435#msg41493435

and here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4505532.msg41464924#msg41464924

The book might still be interesting fiction. Grin

I think I would rather read a non fiction book by someone like you bitcoinFX. That way I know the the story is real. There are so many people that are part of this whole story that I much rather hear it from. Whether it is Enzo Ferrari, one of his trusted engineers or one of the team drivers. The story will be great.
1690  Other / Meta / Re: Require a small amount of merit to become a Junior Member on: July 16, 2018, 10:09:31 PM
I don't think a single merit requirement is of any significance, it's too easy to feed into an alt and bot network. I've mad a number of suggestions in the past, and some of them are.

- Newby thread starting restricted to an intro and an account recovery board. Newbies and juniors restricted to beginners and associated boards.
- Merits associated with posts deleted by a mod, or by  the poster should be removed.
- No merits for trading, bounty, ICO or similar posts.

I think there were a load more, but that will do for the moment. Smiley

I think a single merit requirement would be quite good. It means that multiple bots can probably get detected by simply tracking their merit sources using Ddmrddmr s tools. Patterns would be easy to identify.

It might take some time but eventually their sources for merits will be exhausted and it will become more difficult for them.

Perhaps something that some of the data gurus probably would love. Release the new account registrations data. This would allow pattern matching to bulk bot registrations.

All: Please note user id: lowbander80, Mark Haynes is no more associated with MeFy ICO or any other product or services of MeFy.

I hope this clarifies and if you still have any further question, feel free to write back to me.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4410505.msg41518853#msg41518853

I was hoping to get a reply to my questions in the other thread.

This is not just something that he said - It is something that you supposedly said and told him to communicate to me.

If you said that - why did you say it ?
If you didn't say it then why did I receive that message ?

A very important question:
Do you agree that if the person promoting the ICO is dishonest that it would make the ICO look extremely suspect ?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4679939.msg42235344#msg42235344

Considering that Lowbander80 has been outed as a scammer and was issuing threats in your name that you have chosen not to reply to while you had every opportunity to do so - speaks volumes..

1694  Economy / Economics / Re: Factors that affects the value of bitcoin... on: July 14, 2018, 08:49:47 PM
Value of anything exists as long as people believe in its value. So the main factor - the belief of people around the world in bitcoin. Anything can live long (even some total shit) untill it's believed. It's same about money, stocks, gold and anything like this. Our faith is the core of any value.

Bitcoin does not just have perceived value. Part of its value is due to the cost of production.

Just like gold it is mined - but in a different way.

The cost of mining has a large impact on the value at the time.

When value goes up and there is a large profit margin so mining increases.

When the value goes down below the value of the cost to mine - people turn off miners.

Some mining operations cost more than others due to varying factors. Type of equipment, cost of power, cost of other expenses and whether the operation is commercial or just a hobby.

Other considerations come into it as well. I live in a cold climate. Fiat (money) to BTC conversion is expensive (exchange rates, delays and bank fees). So mining brings heat and regular bitcoin.

I try to do my bit every day that I am on. 98% accuracy on reporting  Grin

Sometimes when I see an unintentional breach of the rules by a generally good posting newbie I send them a polite PM with a link to the rules.

Some entire threads should be deleted. ANN threads that clearly  use paid shills or bots  to bump their thread posting nonsense or "good project" - the ANN thread should just get deleted.

They will soon get the message.

1697  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Edible Currency on: July 12, 2018, 01:24:34 AM
Most prepper and survival kits have such an item already - I'm sure some preppers have extra rations for trading in an emergency. (If you can get past the bullets)

Sealed wrapped biscuits made of:  Wheat Flour, Vegetable Shortening, Cane Sugar, Water, Coconut flavour and Salt.

Eat solid or can be mixed with water
Non thirst provoking
200 calorie food bars
40g weight
5 year shelf life

You could make them bigger to meet the 2000 kcal requirements.
Currently 12 of them cost around £4.50

Emergency rations usually consist of tins of freeze dried food. Giving 2000 kcal daily for an active person or
in survival situations it can provide one adult 800 kcal/day
(Tins work out at about £14.50 day per 2000 kcal)
500g per ration
25 year lifespan

If it wasn't posted in serious discussion I would have been able to post links to such stores.

You may have to rethink your size requirements - unless there is some NASA or Роскосмос space food I don't know about.

Honey based products could potentially provide some of the requirements since well stored honey has no expiry date.

Unless it is in tins I'm not sure I would be too trusting of "food money" that has been handled by lots of people.

Dysentery and diarrhea often are serious issues during emergency crisis situations.
1698  Other / Off-topic / Re: BETWEEN THE LADIES AND MEN; WHO WIELDS MORE INFLUENCE? on: July 12, 2018, 01:11:33 AM
Behind every great man there's a great woman.

If you turn it around and say:
Behind every great woman there's a great man.
People often think lewd thoughts.

Many men but also many women are driven by their sex drive.
It is hard to say who wields more influence.

The one in the front , the one behind, the one on top or the one on the bottom ?

You once made it big and all of a sudden, you saw yourself on the other side of financial misfortune.
Family seems to desert you, and friends wouldn't come to your rescue.
You've striven severally to get up again, yet to no avail.
Now you're on crypto but made one unfavorable crypto based investment.
Your world seems to be crumbling and you're contemplating suicide Huh......

What advice / wordings do you have for such a person? Cry

If you are depressed - first look left. Then look right. Just make sure that you are not surrounded by assholes that make you feel depressed.

But more seriously...

When things get tough is usually when you learn the most.

You learn who your friends are.
You learn how to solve difficult problems.

Financial pressure seems crippling - but really - what it the worst case scenario ?
People recover from the worst financial disasters.

Being depressed is often a chemical imbalance - so there is medication that can assist.

It is not something that can really be solved on a forum - it is better to seek professional counselling and talk to your doctor.
