I have assumed that for 6 days now lol, using different host, but then does not everyone that is hosting/storing have to agree on price then? that's where it gets confusing if stored across 6 host or more.

I think I am going to upload something from another wallet and see what happens, and would even pay my 1SC to store it if needed lol

I'm trying to set up the gpu miner on another one of my computers but I get this error...

"failed to get number of OpenCL devices with error code -1 <clgetDeviceIDs>."

It's a radeon amd gpu and i'm running windows. Any help is apprectiated, I already messed with the -p and -d settings and no luck.

You don't have the AMD drivers installed at all?

The Sia platform offers distributed cloud storage – in essence just like Uber or Airbnb anyone can sign up to host and anyone can utilize it for a fee. You get access to virtually unlimited storage much faster, cheaper and securely. Sia takes a different approach by leveraging the quorum algorithms along with blockchain, favoring proof of storage instead of proof of work. The host participants are organized in quorums (one quorum consists of 128 participants) and files are stored in sectors that could be distributed over hundreds of machines across several quorums. Each quorum operates its own blockchain and so on and so forth to provide security and scale.

Sia raised $120,000 from the community in the spring of 2014, $375,000 from investors and 560 BTC via crowd funding in July 2014. The company behind Sia is Nebulous, which was valued at $5Million at the time. Future funds will be raised either via a traditional Series A or by the sale of Sianotes.

So the value is at least ... how much? This is not an investment advice.

You want secure cloud storage that's affordable and mainly *decentralized, use SIA, and to use SIA ya got to pay for it with SIA coin. That's the purpose of the coin and is what will give it demand and hopefully a nice value.

And I'm sure there s always the possibility that SIA coin could find its place in uses not thought of yet.

What makes this have value?

Sia is valuable because it offers a decentralized way to do storage. On the current network, that value is rather low b/c you can only upload one file at a time and there is a 500mb limit to what can be uploaded. The next client will be much more powerful, the file size limit will be removed (or at least bumped to multiple GB) and there's a good chance that you can choose to upload entire folders instead of just one file at a time.

We do believe that in the long run, storage on Sia will be substantially cheaper than the current cloud storage platforms (Amazon, etc.), which is very attractive to enterprise customers. Enterprise customers will need siacoins to rent storage, this will create a baseline demand for the coin.

On the current network, the full file is uploaded to 8 different hosts. The hosts are selected randomly, but cheaper hosts are more likely to be chosen. I forget the exact algorithm, but someone who is 1/2 the price is ~8x as likely to be chosen. If you are a host and you are more expensive than everyone else by a significant amount, you will never be chosen for storage. If you are significantly cheaper than everyone else, you will be chosen pretty much every time, and your storage will fill up much faster.

The optimal price is the price where your storage fills up at the same rate as contracts expire. You make it cheap enough that you are pretty much always nearly sold out, but expensive enough that you are making money on every contract.

Right now, there's not enough upload demand to fill pretty much anybody's hard drive. It's difficult to upload more than a few files, people don't want to spend their siacoins, the filesize cap isn't that high, and the network doesn't have any sort of a proven track record. We hope to address a handful of these in the next major version (v0.4.0) in the next 6-8 weeks.

if you kept deleting the wallet.dat file everytime - then you need to accept that whatever the coins you had in the original wallet you were mining to is now gone ...

NEVER delete wallet.dat files unless you have NOTHING in them - or you have a backup - or both ...

if you kept deleting the wallet.dat file everytime - then you need to accept that whatever the coins you had in the original wallet you were mining to is now gone ...

NEVER delete wallet.dat files unless you have NOTHING in them - or you have a backup - or both ...

No worries not a major loss since I mined them only for a few hours after launch with my single GPU before wolf0 optimized his miner, after all it's basically free money.

My impulse reactions for updating caused this but I also noticed that the wallet has an auto-update feature built in... So technically if I just opened my Sia wallet it would of updated the wallet for me and I wouldn't of had to try and manually update the wallet, also might I say the wallet.dat is traditionally stored in your roaming folder but in Sia's case it is located wherever you install and run the program folder from.

This is not the norm so I overlooked it.
