Wolf0 and Wilderx, both very good points.

Taek,

any estimated time for 4.00 release?  Smiley Would rather you take your time however and address so many things that have been noted along the way and have a truly improved user friendly release.

Ok, still excited about the future of SIA... can't wait to see it really turning heads one day and getting wide acceptance.

Keep up the good work. Don't get discouraged in any way. This is a cool concept and there is a need for it. Big project for sure  Wink

Careful - there needs to be a VERY explicit way to enable renewing, or people may accidentally spend Sia they didn't mean to.

What is more important: lost files or pay accidentally for renewing?

Sia's renewing system could be based on spending account dedicated only to spending sia for automatic files renewing. More important thing is to be alerted when spending account is running low --> I will lost my files.

This could be like dropbox with credit system, I have sia -> I have files. No sia -> no files.

"Sia money = time for files". How much time do I have for my uploaded files based on my spending account. When I upload more files it will show me less time.

Then you can limit life of the files by simply limit funds in spending account.

Taek, for the roadmap the most important thing in my opinion for mass adoption is Dropbox style user interface and file contracts need to be renewed automatically and not manually!! People should not need to upload all their files again and again it has to be a cloud where people can trust their files will stay forever or until their wallet runs out of Sia agreed??

This here is really the one thing that will define the success of Sia vs competition please make it priority if it already isnt. It has to be really easy and candyland for the masses or there is no success ok?

Good job team really awesome project!

The approach we're planning on taking is having spending limits + warnings. In the renter config, you'll set spending limits and have it give you a warning if you start to approach those limits. The default will be $10 (converting that to siacoin). Contracts will renew automatically so long as you don't exceed the limit, and you'll get a warning some time in advance (hopefully a few weeks) if you start to run low.

There will also be better tools for automating the uploading process.

taek - how easy will it be to transfer coin from the previous wallets to the 4.0? ...

we still have lots of coins in many wallets which we havent transferred due to the loss of tens of thousands of sia from our previous try ...

can we have ONE address as a master address in the wallet that is the transfer address and the wallet can continue to generate the 'standard' addresses for transactional purposes? ...

thats the main reason we stopped mining sia ( but obviously still have a huge interest in the project - and will still support in other ways ) due to the high risk of losing millions upon millions of siacoin if we try to move them from the wallets ...

Wallet safety is one of our top concerns this upgrade. We will have both recovery tools and stronger protections against losing coins in the first place. I feel like the issues with the wallet are one of the biggest things holding us back right now. I can't promise that it'll be perfect, but it will be much better.

good job, this upgrade may see siafounds?

We hope so. We are still primarily focused on getting more people to use the storage app. If siafunds aren't ready by 0.4.0, they should be ready by 0.4.1 or 0.4.2, which will hopefully be 2-3 weeks later.

tanx taek ... but does that also encompass coin transfers from older wallets to the new ones? ...

that would be a good thing ... especially because we use linux - things are a little more difficult ...

What we really need is a very simple step-by-step walk through on how everyone can; download the client, acquire Siacoins, upload their files, and maintain their storage.  I haven't seen that really posted anywhere and it should definitely be on Siacoin.com

Sometime late August we're going to be rolling out 'learn.siacoin.com' which will have a bunch of info about Sia. It'll have pages/sections targeted at developers, and it'll have pages/sections targeted at users. Every common problem with have a page explaining the fix, and every common question will have a page with the answer.

We've neglected doing this so far because we feel Sia is still too-beta to merit the effort. But with 0.4.0 I think things will finally be cooling down a bit. Once people seem to be using Sia comfortably, we'll start to ramp up the marketing significantly.

Yes, it will include transfering coins from old wallets into new wallets or merged wallets. We'll also release a tutorial about how to upgrade safely. This time around, it will be much harder to accidentally lose coins when upgrading. Again, I can't promise that it'll be perfect, but it should be substantially improved.

sounds more like a knowledgebase rather than a 'learn' site Smiley ...

sounds good either way ...

transfer of coins will be good ... ill keep the wallets as they are taek ... until the new version comes out ...

who here is getting a good amount of siacoin mining? ...

any hints on what needs to be done mining with gigabyte 280x oc cards? ... with gigabyte 750ti oc lp cards? ...

optimizations? ...

we would be more than happy hosting a pool also - if it was not too much of an issue setting up Wink ...

We've made significant progress on the new UI, enough to open source it! It's still got a ways to go before it's ready to replace the old UI, but the new design is substantially cleaner, and should be much less prone to errors.

https://github.com/NebulousLabs/New-Sia-UI

It's also plugin-based, which means anyone can write their own custom plugin for the UI. We've also created a tutorial for plugin creation.

https://github.com/NebulousLabs/New-Sia-UI/blob/master/doc/plugin-tutorial.md

The new UI is still alpha, which means things are still changing quickly. If you are interested in making a custom plugin, you should check the tutorial out.

On August 15th we are planning to release the beta version of the new UI.

Interesting coin, looking forward to the future. Still confused like others about total coin supply. Alpha explorer says: Total Siacoin 3.095169 GS. What does that mean?  Tongue
