Thanks, and where i can learn about how much block was found yesterday or today ? It seems the last days we found less than 144 blocks/day.

We still don't have a webpage that explains all of this clearly. It's on the todo list, but for the time being we're trying to focus on testing, code quality, and storage.

Your best resource is probably here: https://github.com/NebulousLabs/Sia/blob/master/doc/Consensus.md

edit: ackh! some of those facts are out of date.

didnt taek mention that there will be a pool coming soon? ...

they are working hard at getting stability and functionality in the storage department currently ...

as for a good pool and 'fair' miners ... well - there will be pools and miners and not much else ...

the devs will ALWAYS have the upper hand - as its the developers that can improve the code and benefit from their own knowledge and their own code ......

unless its up for sale of course Smiley ...

I'd say the latest miners are fair and do not call for any more attention from the devs. The official miners appear to be fairly decent now and not far off from (some of) the custom ones (that is within 10-15% range).

PS I'd like to share a small success story I had: Just by upgrading my Win AMD graphics drivers from 14.9 to 15.11 beta I got over 50% improvement for my hash rate (R9 290 now at 850mhs, 940mhs with some OC).

Hope this will help some other small timers because the big fish know all the tricks anyway.

Happy mining!

What is the current best and/or recommended GPU for Siacoin mining? Specific make and model please. I haven't had any luck at all with my current setup (Win64/Dual Xeon/Nvidia Quadro FX 1800) so I'm starting to think my current GC could be the reason.

I think the R9 290x is the best. I have gotten a few blocks with that, but I think the hash rate has gotten pretty high because I haven't got any in a few days.

"siac miner" will tell you the current target.
now it's:

Target: [0 0 0 0 0 0 242 62 173 123 205 .......]

(that's a sequence of bytes)
Look at it as a big number, if it goes down diff goes up.

Cool

Could you post a link about the miner that you are using to mine Sia, because after update my card drivers fail with sia-gpu-miner-1.02l. Thank you in advance.

Hey everyone I just heard about Sia and am really excited about a working decentralized storage system! An encrypted, safe, and reliable backup system is something that's really needed right now and I want to thank the devs and community members for all their hard work.

I hope one day social media will be built on top of Sia's platform as well.  I wanted to try out Sia so I've uploaded a picture I took recently on a trip and you can get the Ascii file code here: http://textuploader.com/8ar3.  It's amazing how much cheaper and safer this system is than other storage solutions.  If you like my picture you can check out some of my other photos on my Instagram @aspigler.  If people enjoy it I'll continue uploading pictures to Sia and hopefully one day a decentralized Instagram will use Sia's technology.  I can't wait for the next 0.4.0 release!

Nice pictures! Thanks!

For those interested in trying more beta software, check out staging.siafiles.com

Currently, the site only works with '.sia' files, which are a lot like .torrent files. Unfortunately, you can't use '.sia' files with the UI, you have to use siac. To create a file, run
Code:
siac renter share [nickname] [outputname.sia]
To load a file into sia, run
Code:
siac renter load [filename.sia]
Then the UI should show the file, and you should be able to download it. Or you can download it from siac using
Code:
siac renter download [nickname] [the/place/to/download/file.jpg]

In the next week or so we will be adding ascii support. The code for staging.siafiles.com can be found here: https://github.com/NebulousLabs/Sunfish/tree/staging

Eventually, sunfish will be directly integrated into the UI.

Additional things in the roadmap:

+ Multi-GB uploads, instead of capping at 500mb
+ uploading entire folders, instead of just 1 file at a time
+ rewritten, plugin-based UI (with tutorials for how to make your own plugins
+ exchange friendly wallet API
+ safer wallets (pregenerated addresses, encrypted wallet files, unique filenames for all wallets)
+ faster blockchain download + verification
+ smaller memory footprint for siad (currently between 1GB & 2GB, I believe we can get it to 1/4 of that)
+ no need to restart siad after loading new addresses or wallets, rescanning will be automatic (but may take a few minutes)

Taek, for the roadmap the most important thing in my opinion for mass adoption is Dropbox style user interface and file contracts need to be renewed automatically and not manually!! People should not need to upload all their files again and again it has to be a cloud where people can trust their files will stay forever or until their wallet runs out of Sia agreed??

This here is really the one thing that will define the success of Sia vs competition please make it priority if it already isnt. It has to be really easy and candyland for the masses or there is no success ok?

Good job team really awesome project!

Careful - there needs to be a VERY explicit way to enable renewing, or people may accidentally spend Sia they didn't mean to.

Yes I agree, but this function is REALLY important! I for example have almost 7000 files in my dropbox. This trust that I have always access to all the files I could need from anywhere is VERY ATTRACTIVE and I can trust they are there in the cloud and no need to upkeep it somehow it's perfect I can't image wanting to use a software if it means I have to manually renew 1000's of file contracts! The only more perfect Dropbox would be if it would be decentralized and cheaper (for larger storages). This is where SIA has a potential market!
