Kieron Pollard, the West Indies captain and allrounder, announced his retirement from international cricket. A lot of candidates are in line to fill Pollard's shoes. We had a fantastic time watching you work. Have a happy retirement from international cricket. While there is controversy surrounding Pollard, he did not promote national cricket. Instead, he put his best effort into franchise leagues around the world. He could have served the West Indies for many years! Sadly, his time is up.
His 15-year international career has come to an end as this will make rooms for the young but deserving veterans that will carry the game forward on to the next level. His efforts and all his hardworks were greatly honored and could expect to leave great impact on the members of his team. For now, i'm sure the team is up to looking for someone who can be as good as Pollard that can definitely create positive improvements for the team.
The performance of Pollard is experienced much on the IPL and other premier leagues and not on the international matches for his country. This time he wasn't able to perform good for his Mumbai Indians team. As said, he's a positive player and an all-rounder. He is one among the best in the category fielding. West Indies players are full of fun and Pollard is no exceptional.
This explosive all-rounder is set to still continue to play this season that is expected to provide firepower. And hopefully by next year, he will be part of the T20 or T10 leagues which i think will be more visible as he has just resigned from an international cricket. With all the experience and skills that he has achieved, i think everyone is excited to see his next journey apart from being an international cricket player.

He has been a great entertainer for the whole world. the international stage is surely going to make him.
By the way, did you know that in T20 he has hit more sixes than fours? On both the International stage and IPL, he has the record of hitting more sixes than fours Smiley.

Anyway, I thought this was something that was interesting to share. and him retiring from the international stage is surely going to give the newcomers a chance of proving themselves.

@Sithara007 it’s a logical decision as he’s more suited for T20, plus he’ll make insane amount of money playing in all T20 leagues then he would have made while playing for WI. However I’m hoping that he moves on from MI,
next season, because they need to reset their squad in next year’s auction, and while he has performed well in few matches I had way more hopes from him so I’m kinda disappointed by his performances too.

^^ I still think that he has a lot to offer to t20 cricket. And at 35 years old I think it's a good decision for any player to retire from the international arena. Because if he was still playing in the international arena he would have had to face a lot of challenges including ODI and test cricket. And at this age that is certainly not suitable for the player's body. I think it is the right decision to take and he made a good choice.
But, I also think that he really needs to move on from his present IPL team because right now it seems like he will be best suited for other teams.

Even shahid afridi is playing T20 leagues at the age of 41 years, he has graced PSL this year by announcing his retirement from this league. Ishan is rightly criticised, I think management of MI who put huge money on such player need to be criticised firstly. Rohit sharma is Indian team captain and such performance is unacceptable from him.

It might be a really good idea if this thing is handled by both Cricketers and Businessmen because they really need to understand that a businessman will always think about money. and a cricketer will always have the knowledge of what to do because he has experience in actual cricket.
So, I think it will be a really good idea if both types of people come together to build up a good partnership and I think that will be the best process for the upgradation of Pakistan cricket. And I really think this is why India has really good viewership and their pipeline of young players is really strong.
No doubt its good idea they can create two posts like Chairman and CEO with this we can produce good combination one businessman and other good cricketer with administrative skills, but this all is not easy to settle because here we have too many other problems as well which are not helping anyone like foremost need to clear all authorities from political wings because it's just like a cancer which is eating all secondary here things are not good as we have in European countries they are doing good jobs for their countries and for better future of sports here in Asian culture we have no balance like this mostly they fight for power and mostly it's end in very bad way like government have to involve for all settlements, or we have some good corruption charges against each other which also create some big issues.

I actually realized something now everyone should concentrate on how to increase the number of countries that play cricket. That seems a much more relevant problem right now rather than just increasing the facilities and other things among the teams that are already playing at the higher level of cricket. because without the participation of a lot more countries cricket is never going to be as popular as many other sports like football. Unless this fighting for power ends that is certainly not going to happen.

Ever since I started watching cricket there were 9 test teams, in 1999 Bangladesh joined in and since then  there is no addition of proper country in cricket. Rather Zimbabwe test status has been cancelled. So at the moment 9 test countries are playing. In first 2 decades of 2000 ICC failed to produce any test team, thats astonishing.

MLC, Knight Riders team up for 10,000 seater stadium near Los Angeles. Venue could be ready to host men's T20 World Cup in 2024
I dont know why people are getting too excited in taking cricket to USA where there is zero interest, if quarter of that capital or interest in shown in new frontiers then we can have huge countries in cricket eco-system.

That is surprising - why the World Cup is going to the country - the country which  don't have cricket team as well.
Very strange though. There are other countries which are good hosts and have great fan followings as well. Don't know what is the idea behind it.

This thread is silent for almost a week now. We have only 4 cricket threads and due to IPL there isn't much to discuss about cricket these days. ICC has conducting a tournament for women in Pakistan that have players coming from 35 countries
"...as is the case with all the teams in the competition, which aims to bring together cricketers from 30 countries to increase playing opportunities across the women's game..." source

@coinism this is a general thread where we can discuss all formats, but currently there’s not any breaking news which we can discuss here, plus the T20 thread is enough for IPL for now. Lastly I wasn’t even aware of this tournament which again proves how little marketing is done for Women’s cricket, but I hope in the long run they get good coverage like their male counterparts get.

LOL... this tournament (FairBreak Invitational Tournament) has nothing to do with the ICC. This is a privately organized tournament and the credit should go to Shaun Martyn of Fairbreak Global. ICC has zero interest in globalizing the game and they don't have much interest in women's cricket either. The ICC didn't even offered any coverage regarding this tournament on their website. A total of 90 players (divided in to 6 franchises) are taking part, and the majority are from associate nations. Even players from countries such as Rwanda, Brazil and Philippines are present.

LOL... this tournament (FairBreak Invitational Tournament) has nothing to do with the ICC.

Seeing the interest of people in women cricket, ICC has given up all efforts to promote women cricket. But its a good move to gather so many women players and arrange a tournament for them. Though I don't think it will be much beneficial in terms of financial gain but definitely will help players of associate teams to improve there cricket.

All ICC has ever shown interest is in the money that comes from cricket and they are so blinded by the money that they cannot even see if the cricket does not spread around the world as a global sport they will eventually lose money and cricket will eventually die. and that has been the case for quite a long time where people are saying cricket needs to be globalized but ICC does not seem over it at all about it. It's ok to look for money because ultimately you need money to run a pretty big sports organization but if there is no one to play cricket what's the point of having money?

Right now the whole cricket industry is standing on shoulders of India, if bcci lose interest in cricket in case some other sports become popular in India then cricket will die. In present scenario it's very clear that icc is comfortable with current cricket playing nations and doesn't seem interested in inviting new countries.

We should thank Fairbreak Global. They went through a lot of hardship in arranging and organizing this tournament, and they received zero support from the ICC. Fairbreak Global is an organization which strives for gender equality. And I watched one of the matches live on EUROSPORT yesterday, and found it very interesting. The match was between Barmy Army Women and Spirit Women. Barmy Army had star players such as Deandra Dottin, Laura Wolvaardt and Heather Knight in their squad, and to add to the diversity they had players such as Laura Cardoso (Brazil), Roberta Avery (Brazil), Tara Norris (USA) and Henriette Ishimwe (Rwanda). For the first time, I completely enjoyed watching a women's match.

Thanks to Fairbreak Global for arranging this 6 team tournament in Dubai and thanks for sharing that it's available on Eurosport. We need more tournaments like that in order to promote women cricket team. Recently we have Women world cup and now this one. Though Women cricket need lot more attention to reach global audience.

I really don't understand why ICC is comfortable with the current situation of cricket because no one else seems to be. I  know that countries like England, Australia, and others are really interested in cricket but if somehow India loses its interest in cricket that will be a huge problem for ICC. They really need to be a lot more teams playing cricket.

I wonder what is the point of view of ICC in this matter. I really don't think cricket is in a good spot right now and ICC really does not seem to care about it. ICC is more interested in money and not interested in increasing the number of teams that play cricket at all. If anything we should be watching a lot more teams play in the world cup. And where ICC is not interested in upgrading men's cricket I really don't think they are interested at all in women's cricket.

In England there is English Premier league, also England is good in summer Olympics and the list goes on. Australia is also not totally dependent on cricket. But if you see India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and SL they are only good and like cricket. If this region in future gets some other sports then survival of icc and cricket will be difficult.

That's why I have always been saying that ICC really needs to increase the number of teams playing cricket regularly otherwise cricket is eventually going to die.
if I am not wrong I think this region generates a lot more revenue than the others in cricket.
It is good that ICC wants this region to thrive in cricket but what happens if they lose interest?
Only the involvement of a lot more teams in cricket can save cricket in the long run.
