This thread is silent for almost a week now. We have only 4 cricket threads and due to IPL there isn't much to discuss about cricket these days. ICC has conducting a tournament for women in Pakistan that have players coming from 35 countries " ...as is the case with all the teams in the competition, which aims to bring together cricketers from 30 countries to increase playing opportunities across the women's game..." source

Lastly I wasn’t even aware of this tournament which again proves how little marketing is done for Women’s cricket, but I hope in the long run they get good coverage like their male counterparts get.

This is a privately organized tournament and the credit should go to Shaun Martyn of Fairbreak Global. ICC has zero interest in globalizing the game and they don't have much interest in women's cricket either. The ICC didn't even offered any coverage regarding this tournament on their website. A total of 90 players (divided in to 6 franchises) are taking part, and the majority are from associate nations. Even players from countries such as Rwanda, Brazil and Philippines are present.

Seeing the interest of people in women cricket, ICC has given up all efforts to promote women cricket. But its a good move to gather so many women players and arrange a tournament for them. Though I don't think it will be much beneficial in terms of financial gain but definitely will help players of associate teams to improve there cricket.

All ICC has ever shown interest is in the money that comes from cricket and they are so blinded by the money that they cannot even see if the cricket does not spread around the world as a global sport they will eventually lose money and cricket will eventually die. and that has been the case for quite a long time where people are saying cricket needs to be globalized but ICC does not seem over it at all about it. It's ok to look for money because ultimately you need money to run a pretty big sports organization but if there is no one to play cricket what's the point of having money? Regards Duke

Right now the whole cricket industry is standing on shoulders of India, if bcci lose interest in cricket in case some other sports become popular in India then cricket will die. In present scenario it's very clear that icc is comfortable with current cricket playing nations and doesn't seem interested in inviting new countries.

They went through a lot of hardship in arranging and organizing this tournament, and they received zero support from the ICC. Fairbreak Global is an organization which strives for gender equality. And I watched one of the matches live on EUROSPORT yesterday, and found it very interesting. The match was between Barmy Army Women and Spirit Women. Barmy Army had star players such as Deandra Dottin, Laura Wolvaardt and Heather Knight in their squad, and to add to the diversity they had players such as Laura Cardoso (Brazil), Roberta Avery (Brazil), Tara Norris (USA) and Henriette Ishimwe (Rwanda). For the first time, I completely enjoyed watching a women's match.

Thanks to Fairbreak Global for arranging this 6 team tournament in Dubai and thanks for sharing that it's available on Eurosport. We need more tournaments like that in order to promote women cricket team. Recently we have Women world cup and now this one. Though Women cricket need lot more attention to reach global audience.

In England there is English Premier league, also England is good in summer Olympics and the list goes on. Australia is also not totally dependent on cricket. But if you see India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and SL they are only good and like cricket. If this region in future gets some other sports then survival of icc and cricket will be difficult.

Mate you are correct but sadly now it's not easy for ICC to increase number of cricket playing nations because it needs some good time and good planning but sadly no one interested in this case, so we have some serious troubles around ICC. But, good thing is happening just T20 which is comfortable zone for them, and they can do some better with this format if they want to do some good in cricket other formats test and ODI are already out of way because mostly peoples feels these are waste of time, so this format can bring some better in cricket and with this T10 is also another option hopefully they will understand this all and try to manage some better marketing which bring some countries in this format, and we will be able to handle cricket as good sports just not for only gentlemen game because it's already having this for last 100 years without any gentleman.

If more teams are competitive then there is no doubt they will be adding those teams in the main group, until then there is nothing even the ICC can do about that.

There is bad news for the cricket fans in Asia: https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/crickets-return-to-asian-games-2022-delayed-after-covid-19-outbreak-in-china-1313748Cricket's return to Asian Games delayed after Covid-19 outbreak in ChinaCricket's return to the Asian Games after a gap of eight years has been delayed with the tournament postponed until 2023. The 19th edition of the Games was supposed to take place between September 10 and 25 in Hangzhou but a surge of Covid-19 cases in China has forced a chance of plans. Cricket was part of Asian Games in 2010 and 2014, but was scrapped in 2018. This time the sport was included once more, but now we need to wait until 2023. As usual, the BCCI has refused to send teams to multi-sports events such as Asian Games. Back in 2010, Bangladesh and Pakistan won the gold medals and in 2014 it was Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Also, I learnt that the BCCI had banned the women's players from taking part in the ongoing Fairbreak Invitational Tournament. Players from all around the world are taking part in this tournament and the Indian players are the only exception. Anyway, no one actually cares. I watched one of the matches yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Wait a minute. So China is having another severe layer of covid19, what does that mean for us? When things were about to get normal the this is happening. Overall Asian games were delayed, let's just hope things went well and we have Asian games in 2023 and no more outbreak of cvoid. BCCI continue to show its arrogance by not allowing its players to take part in women tournament in Dubai. That's so arrogant.

Otherwise, I don't see the reason why cricket should be restricted from the people that want to enjoy it. This will surely be a bad decision for the women's cricket of India and as far as I know, they are not doing very well right now so with a good amount of playing time they would have done really great.a

BCCI has such policy for there men players that they can't play any league. Indian women players play BBL to gain experience as there is no WIPL in India. Now in Duabi all countries are sending there women players for the tournament less BCCI, this is something only BCCi can answer.

I really don't understand why ICC is comfortable with the current situation of cricket because no one else seems to be. I know that countries like England, Australia, and others are really interested in cricket but if somehow India loses its interest in cricket that will be a huge problem for ICC. They really need to be a lot more teams playing cricket.
ICC is waiting for some full fledge disaster. They might wake up from their sleep when BCCI expand IPL into 12 or 16 team tournament in next decade or so, that means 4-6 months or more fixed for T-20 league only (atleast for Indian players). Other countries would follow the same with their respective league. First casualty will be Test cricket, followed by ODI WC.

That's why I have always been saying that ICC really needs to increase the number of teams playing cricket regularly otherwise cricket is eventually going to die. if I am not wrong I think this region generates a lot more revenue than the others in cricket. It is good that ICC wants this region to thrive in cricket but what happens if they lose interest? Only the involvement of a lot more teams in cricket can save cricket in the long run.
I think T20 has come as a Savior for cricket otherwise the team that are weak and also countries that are not interested in spending a lot of time in a match, doesn't matter if it is as a player or as a supporter. I think the T-20 is a good range for everyone and it can provide everyone with almost everything that people need out of cricket. and ICC will surely be making a mistake if they don't recognize the opportunity and not try to increase the number of teams that play cricket regularly. ~ I wonder what is the point of view of ICC in this matter. I really don't think cricket is in a good spot right now and ICC really does not seem to care about it. ICC is more interested in money and not interested in increasing the number of teams that play cricket at all. If anything we should be watching a lot more teams play in the world cup. And where ICC is not interested in upgrading men's cricket I really don't think they are interested at all in women's cricket Cricket is in a good spot i would say, the T20 matches have changed the concept of spending the entire day to watch a match while we live in a fast pace world and no one would be interested or willing to spend an entire day to watch a match and with T20 matches it is possible to see a result within a few hours and that can help in generating interest for the new generation. If more teams are competitive then there is no doubt they will be adding those teams in the main group, until then there is nothing even the ICC can do about that. I am not going to say that cricket is in a good spot because if cricket was in a good spot it would have been played by a lot more countries around the world and I am also not going to say that cricket is in a bad spot either. I think this is the space between bad and good where cricket is right now. cricket can be one of the best games around the whole world from now on and it also can turn out to be a dead game. T20 is a popular format of cricket right now and a lot of countries have been interested. so ICC needs to recognize the opportunity and try to increase the teams playing cricket regularly even if it is just T20 cricket. ~ That is surprising - why the World Cup is going to the country - the country which don't have cricket team as well. Very strange though. There are other countries which are good hosts and have great fan followings as well. Don't know what is the idea behind it.
May be that is the way ICC is planning to introduce Cricket in a big way to the US fans. It is not even a popular sport in the US but they might be having some kind of plans to attract the fans. They get the media attention if the tournament is conducted and major news network will be airing them, other than that the gate will be empty and the ICC might be planning that they get the required number with broadcasting rights.
