I'm not going to give up on Nadal yet, we all know he's getting kind of old and injuries affect tennis players a lot since it's a one player game, but he's not the type of player to give up easily, he had his downs throughout his career and bounced back, I'm expecting him to win a couple of big tournaments before he retires, if his body doesn't bring him down, the mentality to win will always be there with El Matador.
The major tournament that Nadal is still likely to win is the French Open, the only type surface that allows him to win lots of GS titles. This year's French Open will be held in May-June so Nadal has time to be able to recover from his injury even though the time that is still quite long is not a guarantee he will recover because it will really depend on the injury he experienced during the last Australian Open if it's too bad he might miss this tournament

Probably that will be his target at least for this year's GS. This is his favorite surface and has won than any player in history. But before he can do that, he will really have to rest his body and avoid such injuries even in the middle of the tournament.

Not sure if Alcaraz is also ready by that time, but I think he will be the biggest threat for Nadal this year in French Open.

So let's see, hopefully Nadal is going to be healthy so that we can still see if he can pull another win to get ahead of Djokovic then.

It was a great tournament for Djokovic. No one has been able to thwart him, but players like Nadal and Alcaraz have not really participated. Not Alcaraz at all and Nadal also had to give up in a match in one of the first rounds. Furthermore, no one has come close to Djokovic, but he was also very keen to win this tournament after he was not allowed to participate last year. He has not made himself popular with many fans because of his attitude to the corona virus that he absolutely did not want to get a vaccination. But you can't continue to judge someone on that basis, of course. If we look purely at his technical qualities, he deserved to win. Tsitsipas had 1 set point in the final in the 2nd set, but was unable to use it.
The event was easily won by Novak Djokovic, who was clearly the best player there. If anything, his need for the championship increased after he failed to win it last time around, making him an even more deserving winner this time around.

The arrival of a new opponent, though, is always a welcome sight, and I believe Alcaraz might inject some much-needed vitality into the court. The fact that he is still so young (19) means that there is plenty of room for growth. It will be fascinating to watch how he does against the seasoned Djokovic and whether or not he can introduce any innovative strategies. Despite the odds, Alcaraz might pull off an upset and inject fresh energy into the game. I look forward to seeing what great matchups both guys have in store for the future.

Regarding Nadal's injury
I quote statements from his social media that Nadal's injury is not too serious

It was a level 2 injury to the psoas iliacus muscle in the left leg. Nadal also said he would rest for a while for his recovery which is estimated to take 6 to 8 weeks.
That means Nadal will recover before the 2023 French Open next May.

OK, clearly the French Open is his main target, this is his tournament having won it
ONLY 14 times previously.

This will be massive, both Nadal and Djokovic now have 22 GS titles, if Djokovic wins
it I cant see Nadal catching up. There is a bigger chance Djokovic could take Wimbledon
too to put a wider gap between them.

I know a lot of people are quite hopeful about Rafael Nadal. But I do not think that is going to be a good idea because he is not in his prime anymore. It is going to be very hard for him to actually achieve something from this tournament.

Another big problem is, he is facing quite a lot of injuries in recent times. I honestly do not think that he will be able to compete against the likes of Novak Djokovic and Alcaraz in this tournament.

All the entry regulations in reference to the Corona Vaccination are lifted in the USA at 11 May. This will allow Djokovic to play at the US Open and chase another Grand Slam title. However, it is not certain whether he will remain number 1 in the world rankings. In any case he will not be allowed to play at the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. So his pursuers have two possibilities to get closer to him or even to regain spot number 1.

With the latest injury things are looking not good for this legendary player and if he wants to stay in touch with more tennis he needs to complete rehabilitation and then join tennis again if his body allows him for this because now he is 36 and after few months he could be 37 mean things are getting worst for him with these injuries, and he needs to be more complete.

But, if he rush for this French Open then surely things could be no ok, and he can lose his career like we have Roger Federer even he was in his forties, but he needs to be perfect for having more titles and Grand Slams but now on Clay he has big challenge from his countryman Alcaraz as well because he is also doing good job and with the fightback of Djokovic we will have good interesting matches in coming days.

They have the biggest prestige, biggest prize money, he is tied with one if his biggest rivals

Not sure if Alcaraz is also ready by that time, but I think he will be the biggest threat for Nadal this year in French Open.
Tsitsipas will actually be Nadal's strong competitor at the French Open. He failed when defeated by Djokovic and also Casper Ruud has the opportunity to trouble Nadal to win the next GS, this is just my thought, the most important thing at the French Open is never to let Nadal reach the final because of that like a certainty for this king of clay to win.

This is good news for his fans and an opportunity for him to win the 23rd GS.

He would probably like to have everything. And all at the same time. But winning a real Grand Slam is probably the biggest thing of all. Especially because the last Grand Slam was quite a long time ago: 1969.

Although a Golden Slam is even better.  But only Steffi Graf has achieved that so far in 1988. But next year would be another opportunity for that.  Smiley

You are right. Of course, it is going to be better for him if he takes enough time to get healthy first and then play in tournaments. Because he is going to be able to give his 100% only if he is healthy. Otherwise, he will feel like he is not giving his 100%. And that starting is not going to go away, and he will play again probably carrying another injury.

So, of course, it is going to be best if he decides to get healthy first. Because even if he is 100% healthy it is going to be hard for him already to compete against the likes of Novak Djokovic and Alcaraz, let alone not being healthy.

Thats a possibility, I wonder what the order of priority is for Djokovic, Targets like
No.1 ranking, numbers of Grand Slam wins and overall tournament wins are there
for sure but I figure the 4 Grand Slams are the top priority.
They have the biggest prestige, biggest prize money, he is tied with one if his biggest rivals
and wants to pull clear of him and also GS titles are a measure of greatness, not just now
but in the future, its like building a legacy!
Smiley

Novak Djokovic has performed really well in this recent Australian Open. So, I think we can expect a good performance from him. In this Australian Open actually, no one even came close to him in terms of competition. So, I believe that he's going to perform really well in this tournament as well. But he will have some competition, better competition at least. And the best competition for him is going to be Alcaraz. There will be a lot more skillful gameplay on display.

This is amazing news for Novak Djokovic and now he has a chance again to attack all 4 grand slams to win them in a year. With the level he is playing he might win them all. Only the French open might be a big problem for him due to him playing on clay where he isnt the best.

Djokovic has the Australian Open with a great display of power. But Alcaraz was not there, the number 1 in the world. He would have had a really hard time with that. And against Nadal in good form too. But Alcaraz had to miss this tournament due to an injury and Nadal was actually unable to continue in the 2nd round. If both had been fit, it would have been a lot more difficult for Djokovic. Perhaps most memorable was Murray's performance, who at times returned to his old level of 10 years ago when he was among the best tennis players in the world at the time. Yet with Murray I always felt that he was in the shadow of players like Djokovic, Federer and Nadal.

One man's loss is another man's gain. This is just the case with Djokovic having become number 1, following Tsitsipas loss.
It was just one good news that kept blasting over my radio today. Djokovic sure has a lot to contend with right now, because a lot of eyes are on him to keep the new spot and prove he deserves it. 12grand slams ain't a joke.  I don't see his energy dwindling in coming tournaments because he knows how far he has come and any mistake he makes too soon will be detrimental in the long run. He is one of the G.O.A.Ts with Nadal, Roger and himself inclusive.

Yea its probably going to come down to Alcaraz to lead the challenge depending on

Amazing indeed, this year is working out in Djokovic' favour, being able to attend
the AO and winning it in such impressive style and restrictions to be lifted for the
US tournaments. He will be stoked by this and will keep the X factor going for him.

He will indeed want it all!

First of all, I am going to say that no one found the Australian Open easy. In my opinion, Novak Djokovic still had to perform at his best to win. And because he performed at his best was the reason why it felt like he did not face too many problems. Now if he can do better than this or not is another story.

So, I do agree that Djokovic is going to have a little problem while facing Alcaraz. But I think we should also give him the credit that he deserves for winning the Australian Open.

There is no doubt right now Novak Djokovic is physically and mentally the best player in Tennis, and he can do better in near future and with the absence of Alcaraz things were never been difficult for him because as he gives his best I have feeling Alcaraz is also not near his game and needs good time for giving him challenge mostly new generation players are not having consistency which is problem and surely Novak Djokovic can take good advantage of this all.

As we have too many players for the future but mostly are not giving results which were expected things are looking not impressive, and maybe we will have these few legendary players last as those are dominating and have too many records in this game few months back there were few rumours about Medvedev and Tsitsipass but now these both are declined in performance and quality.

I'm not going to give up on Nadal yet, we all know he's getting kind of old and injuries affect tennis players a lot since it's a one player game, but he's not the type of player to give up easily, he had his downs throughout his career and bounced back, I'm expecting him to win a couple of big tournaments before he retires, if his body doesn't bring him down, the mentality to win will always be there with El Matador.
me too - for me Nadal has always been a legend to me.
YOu are right he would not give up that easily - but that too is true -sometime the injuries are fatal and they kick off the players off their career.
