I watched the first set, VERY impressive performance, really on top of his game
and pretty much back to form for him. I did a cheeky bet on Medvedev being slight
underdog @2.05 - half way through the first set I jund of knew my bet was dead.

On that performance and throughout the tournament its hard to see anyone even Djokovic
stopping him.

And with that win he goes back to the #1 spot!

Alcaraz seems to be back to performing good, and this match was against the former number 1 in atp ranking, Alcaraz didn't even give a chance for Medvedev to break his serve, Alcaraz dominated the whole match, and gave Medvedev no hope to comeback, stunning performance from Alcaraz but not convincing one from Medvedev, it was a one sided final.

That's big from Alcaraz to win in the direct sets. Even if Djokovic have played Indian Wells the match could've been favoured the young Alcaraz. Expected the match atleast to the level of Semifinals played against Tiafoe where the first set reached 7-5 and the second set went to 7764. Here match looks like completely one sided. As said Djokovic needs to stop, if not he's gonna be unstoppable.

The tournament at Miami has already started, the top seeded players on both the ATP
and WTA dont play until Thursday.

In the cases of Alcaraz, Medvedev and Swiatek, would you go close to "all in" with whatever
wagers you plan on doing?

I mean all three should make it to at least the quarter finals...

I did not expect Alcaraz to win at Indian Wells. And then in two sets and in only 70 minutes. It was really a perfect tournament and a perfect final for him. Now it is time for him to defend his title in Miami.
It is important for him that he does not get injured. Unfortunately he is very susceptible to injuries. If he stays fit and healthy he will definitely play for the title in Paris.

Yep, healthy Alcaraz is basically a favorite to win every tournament he goes to this year.
He plays well on all surfaces - he just breezed through Medvedev on hard.

Considering how he's playing, he's my favorite against Đoković as well. Shame that Novak had to miss both IW and Miami.

I would also not be surprised if Alcaraz becomes the player who is going to blast through Djokovic's number 1 weeks record. Djokovic was 24 years old when he first became number 1. I know that is still a very long way to go and yes, it will be a lot about his health as well. But the way he competes and also the rest of the competition seems to be inferior.

Now Medvedev was also very weak against him in Indian Wells and that is probably going to be one of the major differences between Alcaraz and his strongest competitors in the long run. At one tournament Medvedev pays solid tennis, and he did in this tournament as well of course, but there seemed to be a crash in his performance that is hard to be explained. You can lose against Alcaraz, but there wasn't much of a fight from Medvedev. The game took 67 minutes.

Yea I was shocked too at how ineffective Medvedev was against Alcaraz.

He tweeted that the court was slow?

Quote
To every winning-streak comes an end.  Congrats @carlosalcaraz on winning the @BNPPARIBASOPEN!  Too good today.  I look forward to coming back next year to Indian wells👍 (to a faster court🤣😝). Thank you for a wonderful two weeks.

If it was slow it was also slow for Alcaraz so he needs to be able to deal with that.
I am looking forward to see how each play on Miami and hopefully we get a rematch
between the two...

Different times - when Đoković started you had titans such as Federer and Nadal in their prime, players like Murray in the mix as well.
Top 10 were del Potro and Wawrinka, players that could beat you any day of the week.

Currently when I look at the top 10, other than Alcaraz there isn't a player who I can see constantly challenging for titles.

Miami WTA. Watched two very exciting matches yesterday - 15 year old Czech girl Brenda Fruhvirtova lost to Xiyu Wang 0:6, 5:7 (Wang was leading 6:0, 3:0), and 17 year old Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva lost to Anna Kalinskaya 4:6, 2:6. These girls are the future of tennis, we are likely to see them on tour  in the years to come.

Another thriller was played by Camila Giorgi and Kaia Kanepi. These ladies managed to play three tie-breaks in three sets: 7:6, 6:7, 7:6.

Anyway, matches to watch out for in today's order of play:

WTA: Andreescu v Raducanu, Teichmann v Muchova, Noskova v Bronzetti
ATP: Murray v Lajovic

There are very few big names but these matches look promising.  Cool

Disappointing from Teichmann, she got bagel'd in the first set. I thought she would do good
things this year but it hasnt started that way.

Disappointing from Raducanu too, she just doesnt seem to be progressing.

O am looking forward to see how Fernandez does against Tsurenko later.

On the ATP side I have a bet on Murray to come through to the next round, he does quite
well in the early rounds but as the competition progresses and the talent is stronger he can struggle.

Here I agreed you about this all now we already lost many top ranked players and things are completely different with mostly players are playing with inconsistency even few months back we have few players those were going to lead from front and have chance to replace these three big, but now they are not near this quality with injuries and their performance are also not as we were expecting same can happen here even currently Alcaraz is having the best quality and still can do things for long run but for this all he needs to be had better body language and fitness as well which will give him success for the long run.

Tsitsipas, Rublev and Medvedev all are on decline as well, even these all were looking for the better and impressive future of this game but have no near this all.

What did you expect was gonna happen in this match? Muchova is one of the girls in best form on the whole tour and I wouldn't be surprised to see her go far in Miami. I will probably bet on her all the way. Did not expect 6:0 in first set but I did expect a clean 2:0 win and covering of 4.5 handicap. Since it is easy to talk after the match I'll add the proof as well  Grin

I have the feeling that Alcaraz, despite his age, is already much further in tennis than the other players of his generation. He just has a lot of talent. That also explains his position and recent tournament victory. It will be very difficult to beat this player in the future. I don't see many other players besides Djokovic who can beat him. Djokovic is of course still the very best at the moment, but things could change soon. And on clay Alcaraz might be better at the moment. The question is where Nadal is at the moment, could he show his top form in this edition of the French open? Then we could see great matches between Alcaraz and Nadal.

Alcaraz will dominate the stage after Djokovic retires for sure. It wont be like in the period when we had the big three. Medvedev and Tsitsipas will cause him problems but i think that he will be close to some of the records that the big three made for sure. The only problem for Alcaraz is Djokovic

That's actually what I meant to say. Now only looking at the time Alcaraz seems to have left to also collect some easy number 1 weeks, it probably comes down to his health only. Unless there is another rising star on the horizon that we can't see yet. His level is insane at the age of 19 and even though when Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Zverev etc. are all great players, they are not his level.

This also shows how much fun it is to have several titans in the mix. Smiley The battles between the big three or also Murray, Wawrinka and del Potro were addictive. I didn't even watch tennis very much until I saw such an insane match for the first time. Hopefully we'll soon see some serious competition for Alcaraz.

Alcaraz will break more records in his career. Only thing he needs to give importance is proper rest and fitness. At his age giving hard competence is simple, and he needs to have this consistency for long. See the legends, they're into tennis for more than a decade turning pro. For now Djokovic is the only contender he finds difficult in winning. Over time surely he'll start winning more matches against him.

like yourself, didnt expect such a poor result from her, only winning 2 games, very poor.

I agree, Alcaraz seems to have all the tools at his disposal to be No.1 for a long time,
the only caveat is staying injury free.

and ATM based on his performance at Indian Wells there is nobody at his level currently.
I definitely think Medvedev is better than the result in that final portrays.

Disappointing from Teichmann, she got bagel'd in the first set. I thought she would do good
things this year but it hasnt started that way.
Since it is easy to talk after the match I'll add the proof as well  Grin

like yourself, didnt expect such a poor result from her, only winning 2 games, very poor.

I agree, Alcaraz seems to have all the tools at his disposal to be No.1 for a long time,
the only caveat is staying injury free.

and ATM based on his performance at Indian Wells there is nobody at his level currently.
I definitely think Medvedev is better than the result in that final portrays.

Medvedev has just won 3 titles in a row before Indian Wells and he's 27 (not that young anymore huh?) vs 19yo Alcaraz! Medvedev needs a good rest right now. The problem is that clay season is right around the corner. But if the surface is fast enough (US Open?) I'm sure he'll be able to give Alcaraz a fight!
