I did it and now have the light client. It does not show the sync bar  at all/ Is this normal? How can I be sure the my light client is fully synchronized?

if you want to receive black bytes then you have to link your byte-address. otherwise you only will receive bytes.

Imo, witnesses need a way to advertise themselves in the DAG, such that users have an easy way to identify them using the byteball explorer and decide if we can trust them.
