Hey has there been any info about special deals for gen 1 /batch 1 buyers in the future?

I'm sure they promised us special consideration for buying the gen 1 stuff and getting this party started....any deals on future hardware offerings?

My Saturn has paid for itself 1.5x over and I want to get something more powerful.

Let's hear about some gen 2 hardware specials...maybe something in the 2TH range?

Or send us an email with a coupon....I'd probably jump on that even if it was a pre-order.

I'm sure they would tell us such if they had a clue ..my guess is they are looking at the landscape of what exactly to make at what PH and price and scratching their heads a lot...imho with bitcoin trending towards 1K a btc and the other mnfg out there....what should/could they shoot for? at 6PH unit in march/april at say 8K to over compensate for the dump of cointerra and blackarrow stuff?..they sure don't want to pull a BFL and say 900gh at 5K will work in jan/feb

yeah my guess is they are scratching their heads and pondering at this point (of course hope I'm wrong and the 20ph unit at 5k is coming out in march just saying)

Old Style Legacy Plug & Play BBS System. Get it from www.synchro.net. Updated 1/1/2021. It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)

If anyone is looking to sell, I will buy any KNC equipment you have for 5 BTC per card.  20 BTC for Jupiter, 10 BTC for Saturn and 5 BTC for Mercury.  PM me.

tl;dr: Plug your power supply cables directly into KnC modules to increase system efficiency.

Folks,

I was poking around the inside of a Saturn->Jupiter miner, measuring the 12V supply on the modules themselves.
With a supply voltage of 11.93V at the PSU, I was seeing 11.5V at the modules!

Examining things further, I noticed that the nice quality blue PCIe extension cables KnC supplied are only 20AWG (0.52mm^2).
This plus the resistance at the couplings is wasting a significant amount of power:

Module Power ~150W @ 11.5V = 13.04A (20AWG has rated ampacity of 11A in free air, btw)
Vcable=0.43V
Power loss in cable = 13.04A * 0.43V = ~5.6W

Plugging the PSU cables directly into the modules I measured around 11.85V. So:

150W / 11.85V = 12.66A
Vcable = 0.08V
Power loss in cable = 12.66A * 0.08V = ~1.0W.

So we have a percentage loss of:

100 * 5.6W / (150W + 5.6W) = 3.6% versus
100 * 1.0W / (150W + 1.0W) = 0.6%

When you consider how much a 3% increase in efficiency costs at the PSU level, the recommended course of action is obvious Smiley

E

If the blue cables are 20AWG do you have an explanation why PSU cables which are 18AWG get warmer, than the blue ones?
How did you establish they are 20AWG? Mine has no writing on them.

Here's a shot of the 20AWG marking (edge enhancement applied):

so these miners does not like being cold.

Since KNC is finished with this design, it would be great if they gave their reasoning for what flaw gets fixed when let to heat up.
There are plenty of boards that run fine at low temps (no cores/dies off) so it has to be a flaw somewhere on some boards.

Is good firmware final the 0.98.1 beta or not?

I think until there is some tuning application added, 98.1 beta is pretty much the winner for most people

As long as bitcoin prices remain high, prices for mining equipment will go up not down.  Demand for mining equipment has skyrocketed because of high bitcoin prices.  Depressing but true.

I'm building a shelf for 5 miners: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DJtdOJwyos

That is not the final design and I am open to suggestions.
It will have castors on the bottom, so it can be moved easily if required.
Made from MDF.
One miner per shelf + one for all the PSUs (4)
Dimensions:
The bases are 60cm x 60cm for stability
Each shelf is 20cm high (might increase to 25cm, but then it gets too high = unstable)

I want to make it as closed as possible, without impacting the airflow.
My initial idea was to make it fully contained with push and pull fans on each level, but then I realized I will need to spend over £100 on fans, so that idea is out the window.

What do you think?

Well some help that ya are. Sad

Anyways Phoenix1969 got me set up.
I was having an issue with my miner dropping down to 60GH/s and the temps were around 50c. We looked and had 3 VRMs offline.. Sad i turned off the fans to the case and blocked airflow for the heatsink to raise the tempature. Sure enough once it got to around 60c 3 VRMs were showing and then once it got to 68c it showed all 4 VRMs online and i was back hashing around 140GH/s. so these miners does not like being cold. I have tinkered with 0.98/0.98.1(beta)/0.99 with all the same luck. I am on the beta now.

Thanks again Phoenix1969 for the help.  Grin
My pleasure...   Grin glad to have helped.

Agreed. KNC has no motivation to lower their prices, especially considering the November 650 Ghs Jupiters are 62% faster than the original "400 Ghs" Jupiters we all bought last summer. They had no problem selling those machines for $7000 with bitcoin at $80-100. In fact, I will gladly pay $7000 right now for a 400Ghs Jupiter (missing a hashing board).

Dear KNC,

I am greedy. Please sell me another Jupiter. Thanks.

Seriously, though, is there any idea when KNC will be accepting new oders? I don't care if I'm 2 months away from receiving something, I'd like to spend some of this BTC that's burning a hole in my wallet.

is this kind of post considered useful?

why not be a tad less 'cryptic' and you(r inbox) might not get abused so much...

Also want to add, my ambient temps are 30C - 86F.

so statements regarding VRMs needing heating and/or not liking cooling is NOT a fact covering ALL rigs/VRMs and even when they are hot(ter) they dont ALL fall back into line....

im sure ive mentioned this...

As for 'wiggling' the heatsink aka 'cooling tower' - i think ill give that a miss.

i personally dont want to hear 'warranty' is void due to negligence/abuse/possibly insane advice (though it might just work)

I've renamed the experimental one. Here is an updated one with more tweaks to the tuning (does not delay before disabling):
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/kncminer/cgminer-tune
(Be patient before deciding what its performance is like since it takes many minutes to stabilise)
Updated that binary again. It delays re-enabling them progressively more every time they're disabled. The delay between disables is back and there is now a message saying that the cores are being enabled and have finished enabling at startup. It takes ~20 seconds on my saturn!
Followup. This binary has had the most consistent (and highest) hashrates and lowest hardware errors for my Saturn. The average hashrate is ever so slightly creeping up even after 24 hours. The difference is not profound mind you...

Nobody said the temp issue covered "All rigs", and you still don't get what sharing info is about helping others in need, who ARE having problems.... and if you cared to read just a few posts more, before bashing O'rama, you would have seen that he spelled it out for those who can't "Read between the lines", but you still even missed it.
What is your problem? Someone piss in your Cornflakes?
I also stated clocking the heat-sink was a desperation move on my part, and that the temp thing was NOT a recommendation.
It was a question!!!
But.. it has helped others.
There are two options when you have a board that isn't performing up to spec as I see it..... RMA it, or try to get it going yourself.
Which one you try, is up to the owner...
I'm an "Open book" in here, which is something I'm not used to...  but if I can help someone, by golly..I'll do it....and share every conventional AND unconventional solutions I find. It is then up to you as the fellow KNC miner owner to make a decision based on how you feel about it.
You would rather see everyone with a simple glitch on board do an RMA when they could possibly be fixed so simply?
Not me...  Grin

Heads-up for tomo BTW - incoming...

November delivery news???  Smiley
That was the news....!

NOPE!

& neither was it in regards to the 'tuning suite'

if you wish to continue your half assed, half-reading and half-helping, i will continue to ask why...

i dont eat cornflakes, i grew out of that during childhood. (around the time i grew out of referring to myself in the 3rd & giving myself nicknames)

whos post did bitcoinorama help exactly??

the half dozen posters and more incoming who failed to 'read between the lines'  (BTW - 'heads-up tomorrow - incoming' is ONE line)

or just you, who again jumped to a wrong conclusion and added MORE confusion to the pile of half facts and guesstimates..?

questions end in question marks, statements do not.

keep on helping.. you're doing swell

though this is in no way able of effecting the performance of the VRMs, right?
Not directly, but by disabling as many cores reliably as you "need" to have disabled, the power delivery will need to fluctuate far less so... who knows?

not bitcoinorama or phoenix69 for sure!!

i still want to know what the heads up was in reference to and even more so why it was not wiser to explain clearly without leaving it open to conjecture etc...

wrt the cores, bertmod shows all mine as ok its just that 1 VRM with low current that seems to be 'robbing' me of 30-50Gh

Hmmmm.....  I wonder....

Now I'm intrigued..

Will be pressing refresh from 9AM. Fingers crossed it's not second generation news as right now I don't have a pot to piss in.

Ah...erm ok then, forget the news about...

Well, in that case Marcus is heading down to the factory at 3am this morn to personally oversee the assembly line the entire week your boxes are being assembled and shipped.

how is that a heads up?

it was mentioned a day or two ago...

As well as ignoring questions & polite greetings on #kncminer, marcus is going to be watching a late assembly line for a week.

Quickly guys, wait another week!

Hope 0.99 is working out great for everyone etc...  Tuning suite is now only 'days' away from maybe recovering the Gh that previous fw 'upgrades' have managed to diminish.
