What happens if I drop out of a long round? Does whatever I have computed so far goes to waste?
Depends on how long the round goes after you leave. Short answer, though, is yes. You run the risk of getting nothing.

honestly the drop out rate is really really bad. I belive there's an algorithm in place to stop "pool hopping" that really really penalizes you for dropping in the middle and re-joining. Basically my miners kept going down and you basically get murdered. But then when you rejoin you tend to remake it close to what your estimates were in a decent amount of time (probably not with this ultra marathon session tho...) more info here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1976.msg50002#msg50002

USB miners always work at Diff 1, so I don't know why you're trying to change them...
What? We are talking about the workers diff... Mine just happens to be using 43 USB miners and the pool now has the workers diff set at 9 where are u seeing this diff of 9? at your My Account page? or u are staring at the output from cgminer/bfgminer etc? if it isnt on your account page, then u need to minimize that window and stop nit picking, u r gunna die of old age

Holy cow 14h with ~57TH/s for one block. I'd really be interested if someone maintains a negative "Highscore" list for cases like that :-D

Has anybody else's re-ward dropped over the last six or seven blocks or so? Is is just me? All my machines are online... weird... I'm still /relatively/ new at this, and don't understand everything. I guess it's just one of those things.

We've added a lot more hasing power the last few days. I think it went from low 50's to high 58Thash/s so you're doing less of the overall work lately than before. Thus a lower percentage of the reward :/

As a matter of fact it's pretty rare for me to even see a hiccup but things happen.

The time constant of the share value decay has been found to be only 200 seconds currently, instead of the original value of 300 s. So the decay is even quicker, assumedly to increase the anti-hopping efficiency. When you leave the pool during the round duration, your score diminishes quite quickly. When you join during the round OTOH, your score builds up equally quickly. Thus you can gain this way and compensate for the loss from leaving.

The effects of lost connection & reconnection should compensate in the long run, as follows from my previous post.

There is no such thing as "handing them diff 2 work". Which diff is met by a hash can only be determined after it is computated. The only thing happening when operating at diff 2 is that all diff one shares get dropped by your mining software instead of being sent to the pool server.

Miner software just computes hashes, and then checks to see if the hashes are lower than the arbitrary submission difficulty you have selected (or the pool has autoselected). If you could create only diff1 shares then you'd have found a flaw in SHA256.

r u talking daily hash reward? if that then. 11+ hour blocks do that. if not then, Slush's total hashpower increasing decreases what u get for each block, if u dont increase with it. Mine has gone up... but that is because I added 9 asics. if u dont add anything it will continue to go down down down down... look at the network hash growth rate, the graph is a straight line upward. u cant win with that kind of growth without increasing your hash power to match haha... u just get dragged behind then kicked in the face

If you could create only diff1 shares then you'd have found a flaw in SHA256. I get the sense they are complaining about this output that is coming from the miner software. if you have 1 asic mining at 335mh/s the hash rate it is locked too. and your slush worker page says DIFF 1 and the slush worker page says your miner is hashing AROUND 335 +/-10% then minimize your mining window and play xbox or something. this output below is asic miners... OMG my miner got issues a diff 46!!! someone help me! IF an asic was really given DIFF over 1 u would be experiencing high rejections and would be no where near 335mh/s on your worker page. minimize go play xbox.
