I think the long blocks will increase if the pool's hashrate doesn't increase. This pool is slowly receding. As much as more hashing power dilutes my share of the block, a larger share of nothing is still nothing. |

All pools have their pros and cons.
Yes, if you stop mining on Slush sometime during a round you do get hit pretty hard.
I've mined on BTCGuild before for about a week. NMC is a nice bonus, but for what I've mined there, even with the NMC factored in I still did a little better on Slush. So in my personal experience, I can get a better return mining with Slush.
I'm still mining a little bit with BTCGuild (about 10%) at least until I get enough btc to be able to get a payout.
I'm not going to get into a "my pool can kick your pool's @$$" arguement. I like BTCGuild, they have a nice website layout and the mining rewards are a little bit more consistant. If someone want to try them out, I'm not going to try and talk them out of it.
As a test I am mining on three different pools, with the same hash rate on every pool 24/7. Two with pps, one with DGM (Slush). So far I have a 10-15% higher payout from slush for the last month. It is quite evident where this comes from: pool luck in the last 30 days is above 100% and therefore I have received a 100% pay out of block fees and Transfer fees (which actually do add to the income!!!) On the other hand some pools calculate my income 25btc / difficulty - fee. So I consider this quite greedy and my loyalty will not be endless. Obviously there is a psychological effect with the long blocks. If you are lucky and mine 10 blocks in an hour you are happy for an hour. If you are unlucky and gain nothing for ten hours you are unhappy for ten hours. I kind of have the Feeling that People get overwhelmed by there ffelings in a situation (mining bitcoins) where only logic counts. So if you are bored go and watch Television or talk to somebody, but dont stare at the stats or the block chain. This may kill your rational. Better look at your email accounts and also look at the 30 day pool luck. Personally I kind of feel pitty with the pool operators as a whole. Transfer numbers increase, so should costs, but the income from blocks remains equal (at least in btc). As far as I understand Slush is constantly figuring out something, so lets wait and see. |

did the accounts page just get modified? I no longer see any namecoin info, and it does not seem to show the difficulty/suggested difficulty anymore...?
I've found an "intermediate state" in my browser window that I've refreshed yesterday last time. There's no namecoin related content any more, but there's still the Suggested dificulty column, and also the Stratum column, that has been also removed now, as Slush supports stratum protocol only for some time already. |

today, 8 hours and still going.
If these long blocks paid more it would be a great result!!!!!!!!!
Edit:- used all the babies yesterday
9 hours and counting this must be a record, does anyone remember a longer block? 12 days ago there was a 14 hour block. You must remember it with your 70 days' activity  : Holy cow 14h with ~57TH/s for one block.
I'd really be interested if someone maintains a negative "Highscore" list for cases like that :-D

Even with 7 hour rounds slush is still doing pretty good for roi as far a I can see but these long rounds do make me sad.

Give "bitpop" a PM He had some bfl chips spare from group buy, you will need 16 chips. He may have some left. (chips due for delivery within the next week to 10 days if I remember correctly) and PM to "Lucko" for a board and assembly. If you are quick you will get a brand new 64 Gh BFL clone and maybe some change for 2k. all you will need is a PSU about 500W with 2 PCIe connectors. |

Currently negotiating for 8 boards from "Lucko" (search this forum for Cointamination) its a BFL open source unit. 64Gh/s $600 for board+assembly, $880 for 16 chips, $50 for PSU. price may go up in 10 days or so when deliveries start. |

Anyway, according to my calculations: With current steady difficulty growth of ~31 % each 11 days (which I don't believe is going to change in near future) you would get about 6.88 BTC in less than a year. That's some $915 in current prices. But you'd be doing about some 0.03 mBTC/day after the year. That means, you'd mine (nearly) nothing after the first year. Thus, the BTC/$ price would have to increase more than 2.2 times just to get your $2k back, with zero profit. [edit]: The above results don't even count with electricity costs. |

I got my BFL Single a few days ago and mining with it on slush's pool. it takes 4-5 days (depending on pool luck) to earn 1 BTC at this difficulty. But next difficulty level is estimated to be an increase of 34 million...  It gets me quite unsure wether or not I'll reach ROI on this. But since I got chip coupons from BFL I made contact with Lucko in order to make use of 'em and hopefully increase my hashing rate.  |
