ok all admins/mod please read this , if you find it helpful then implement it -

solution to make sure smerits get distributed on daily basis to most of eligible members without any fraud -

1. increase smerit supply first .

2. to check fraud implement these rules -

a. A person can give only smerits to max 5 members per day .

b. a member cant give smerit to same person again until he give it to 5 other different members .

c. any member who shared his smerit to less than 5 members in a month , reduce few merits from his account . bcoz he is like inactive member of forum .

d. a member can give only maximum 20 smerits to other member in a month . it will help in stopping grey market .
OR if a member have 100 smerits then he cant send more than 20% of his merits to same guy in a month .

e. will think more and edit the same post .

That’s not really fair. If someone like Stephen Gornick was still around he would probably get all of my sMerit all the time. He was the most truly helpful and unbiased person on this forum. He would have deserved to get more than others and more from one person.

my alt had 7 to send  and was at 250  before the send.

note  I was at 1002 before my alt sent me 2 points

ok so you guys (lutpin too) think giving many smerits to few members is ok than giving few smerits to many people .

you talk like those icos who limit their minimum whitelist investment to 10 ether or 1 btc . favoring whales ..

always remember if some one gave you something precious then divide that carefully , its not about whom you like most or who helped you , here you are doing it for community , smerits are not for showing you love to dear ones .

and also , even if you give 1 extra smerit to same guy , then remember there will be one more guy who will miss that 1 smerit which you could have given to him .

I just see it differently. I see it as a system that allows you to reward quality posts. Some people will never get any and others will get a lions share. The worst trolls on this forum sometimes post something that’s really helpful or new and interesting so even they will end up with some. Or, maybe I’m missing something.

sMerit are meant to be spent. Giving them to active people who read a lot and can thus distribute them is better than giving them to people who might just follow one thread, read one section, or are simply inactive.
It's on those who have sMerit to keep redistributing them and spread their Merits into the community
(while doing this, they should act responsibly. Reward good posts, not everyone in an attempt to give out to as many people as possible).

So I noticed it says unused Merit can be decayed at some point in the future - What's the point of this?

Unused sMerit (sendable Merit). I think it's supposed to incentive rewarding others with merit and punish those that hoard their sMerit.
The merit system works only if people actively use it, else everyone is stuck at their current rank.

I wish there would have been some sort of option of giving dislike (-ve merit) to the spam/LQ posts and if any post receives certain -ve merits/dislikes,it should be automatically deleted /hidden

Given the concerns about abuse even with only positive merit, I dont know if I would support that.
There's a whole other level to possible abuse vectors when adding negative merit as well, that can decrease somebodies rank.

Thanks for your kindful words. I wonder about it too. Most of users will be stucked at their current ranks if the merit system wont be used effiiciently, and users don't be active and ready to help each other.

I've given merit to 20 users today. I dont see the problem with that.
It was your suggestion to limit the users I can merit per day, not mine.

There are more than 5-10 members that have sMerits. Hundreds of thousands of users got some number of sMerits. There are also 35 merit sources who produce sMerit out of nothingness.

It seems that the merit curve is very steep. Basically, to go from member to full member you would need "90" merit. On the other hand, merit is quite expensive. For each "merit" created by the sources we can make a geometric series sum:

Sn= a1 (1-r^n)/(1-r)

with r= .5 and a1=1, results if summed to infinite in ... two. So, for 20 people to progress in one year from member to full member you would need to generate 1000 merit points on the sources (not counting other promotions, like to hero or Senior).

May I ask what is the generation rate that you are considering? If it is too tight this forum may become a private club for an elite as far as ranks.

I do agree that is good to have a system to curate the content, and this is not bad, depending on how it is regulated.

Like for my case current activity is 112, to become a Full Member I need 120.

112/120 = 93.33%

Should have 93 instead of just 10.

The merits credited for the newly ranked and those that is close to ranking up is the same. That's not fair.

The limit is per 30 days. Furthermore each user (not just sMerit sources) is limited to giving another user at most 50 merits per month.

sMerit basically should be given to those who makes a quality post, being active here everyday doesn't mean you're a good one. We must be very responsible on doing this to prevent abuse here in forum, we should be fair on giving merits for every ranks.

Merit does not hide trust nor does it effect trust. All three of trust, activity, and merit are unrelated to each other and independent of each other. Merit is effectively a measure of post quality. Trust is a measure of trustworthiness. An untrustworthy user can create a high quality post that is worth merit.
