Merit & new rank requirements

EDIT : theymos,are you planning to introduce a business model down the line which enables members to buy certain amount of Merits if they run out ? Technically,can people run out of merits ?

It's like liking somebody's post you agree with or that's constructive. I saw I have 200 smerit and it expires if unused but it doesn't mention a date or anything. However, still I don't like this concept as it looks like the forum turned into some social media website where merits=likes. Glad that demerit is not possible else I wouldn't imagine what would be the state then.

It is more like a "Thank you system" to every poster who made a good resourceful contribution and not like a like button. Anyway, all of this new MERIT SYSTEM is good as long as it is not being "abused".

The new system is very good and motivate members to do high quality posts , but i am afraid that members try to exchange\sell Merit each together to increase their ranks , i saw this happen in other forums adapted system called likes .

It may be to limit the growing number of unnutritious posts, and in such a system, there may be more excellent posts.

Anytime in the year, there will be a new Sr Member and a 1 week away from Hero Member, when do you want it to be implemented then?

Its like asking for positive trust where some DT members don't like it, you will probably get tagged (or in worst case get banned) if you do that. Merit should be earned, not bought.

I think it's a good idea.  But as there is merit, it must be Demerit as well. to simply make the difference between profiles, for avoiding spam
we would also like to have on the right of the page the option for merit and demerit without being forced to open another window (as was the case with -0 + 0)

And also want to know where is the place of newbie in this forum ?? It will be hard for some to develop their Rank, expect if there is someone who has an excess of merit, And wants to share ...

I have some similar thinking as you in this regard.  

I will give you an example from my personal life, without being too personal.  I was in the military, and I recall that they had a system that allowed you to go up in rank based on a number of criteria... at the lower ranks there was a certain degree of automation, but as the rank became higher, there was some combination of factors, including how well you were liked, your performance appraisals and some tests that you took.  I recall that at a certain middle rank, I was promoted above and beyond my peers mostly based on my really high test scores and my meeting the basics in other criteria; however, I am pretty sure that the higher ranks did not like me or my getting promoted before several of my peers and would have never promoted me, if their assessment were to carry more weight.

So in that regard, I kind of agree that there may be some need for newbies to still be able to move up in rank without having to kiss any butts (yet I do not know exactly what the threshold should be, but it seems that there is some need for some automatic promotion for merely doing your time and posting and not getting banned.. hahahahaha.. that would be good).

I already don't like the way clicking on +merit takes you away from the thread.  Can you please have it open in a new window?

Agree 100% with this.  A new window, or maybe just code in a little box next to the post where you can type the Merit you want to give and then hit Give or something.

maybe we can add another "+1 merit" if you just want to send 1 merit directly.

Merits credited now should be based on the current activity.
Like for my case current activity is 112, to become a Full Member I need 120.

112/120 = 93.33%

Should have 93 instead of just 10.

The merits credited for the newly ranked and those that is close to ranking up is the same. That's not fair.

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank

and you are here :

please stop complaining.

And to be a Full Member I need 90 merits since 100 is the minimum required. Same as those with only 60 activity.

I am not complaining, just stating that those who design this merit system should consider the current activity not just the rank.

I've read somewhere that you can't give merits to yourself unless you are using alt account

I would also add the need to have a certain amount of merits before to be able to open a thread, there has been a lot of thread opened just to spam referral codes and similar, that would be much appreciated!
