This is the latest tech update.  We were waiting until we had the windows compile and a certain mac issue to announce.  Also, it looks like some were encountering errors that require that the blockchain cache be cleared.

Download Links

https://earthcoin.s3.amazonaws.com/releases/1.2.1/linux/earthcoin-1.2.1-linux.tar.gz
https://earthcoin.s3.amazonaws.com/releases/1.2.1/macosx/EarthCoin-Qt-1.2.1.dmg

changelog

heartbleed:
* win, mac: update openssl to non-vulnerable version 1.0.1g
* linux: use non-vulnerable openssl version 0.9.8

misc:
* setup a working testnet
* put alert keys into the code
* checkpoints up to block 150,000
* mac release as 32-bit dmg
* gitian build for linux

If you experience Errors

notes for linux:
* remove your local blockchain cache
* rm -f ~/.earthcoin/blk*.dat
* rm -rf ~/.earthcoin/database

notes for mac:
* remove your local blockchain cache
* rm -f "~/Library/Application Support/EarthCoin/blk*.dat"
* rm -rf "~/Library/Application Support/EarthCoin/database"

Not needed for pools.  Also, we are working out an issue with the Windows binary that should be fixed soon.  This is more of an update, but an official announcement is coming soon.

We need something special, something powerful, there are a lot of coins that seems to be dead and that jump 600%. Just one big investor that want to pump EAC will help us to make big money.

Could be a great idea to half the rewards every 6 months instead of 12 months. There are just too many coins for the current level of support.

OR just not enough investors. Maybe moving to a POS or X11, would help too. Decrease the amount of coins, remove the superblocks.Why not, even decrease the total number of coins that is available to mine. Kittehcoin did that a few months ago and the price jumped.

Why people invest in earthcoin? The stupid dev team got rid of the original dev, and since then they are not even capable of compiling a windows client, fixing the heartbleed issue. This fix, was done by many coins immediately after the issue revealed, and only requires a re-compilation (nothing else). The dev team can just talk, but can not do anything. This is really sad. I had to sell all my EAC coins at a loss, oh well. I don't think anyone is interested in investing it any more, there are new coins coming out daily, some have good features, why bother this one.

Im pretty sure about that. When BTC recover it´s value, all this old coins with huge communities will rebornm, so it´s cheap to buy EAC at 5 satoshis.

Can't recall exactly when the price was 100x but right now there are maybe 5x more coins mined than back then as well... so the demand would have to go up 500x for price to 100x. But yea, who knows what will happen...

1 bitcoin at that time was worth 2X more then it is now, dollar wise it has dropped now those 100x ,maybe even a bit more.

it was hovering at 200satoshis for loooong time,
back then to buy 1,000,000 eac you needed to spend $1800  (at 200bitcoin satoshis)
now to buy 1,000,000 eac you need to spend only $23  (at 5bitcoin satoshi,and lower bitcoin price itself)

and there were times when earthcoin was also 400satoshis sooo... Yeah.. it has dropped now 100x then it was for very long time.
