Why on Earth would they need to watch the forums? They can attack whenever they please. What benefit do they get from watching this thread?
May be to check when admin is sleeping ? Smiley

Well, they failed this time! Good job on keeping it short!

Screw it. Going to bed. Between the new difficulty rate and these ddos attacks I think I will be having nightmares instead of pleasant dreams in my sleep...

Hopefully the new version of phoenix reconnects once the ddos attack is over.

since Slush and Deepit pools are being ddosed same time, a possible explination can be an attack on the network, i hope miners switch to other pools so the hashing power stays in our hand.

There was a DDoS attempt at this moment.

Recent connection issues and increased stales percentage were not caused by DDoS.

I really don't understand what anyone has to gain from these attacks.  They don't bother me at all, they don't affect my mining income more than 1-3% a week, they don't lower the power of deepbit.  Heck still hovering close to 50% some days.

Why does anyone waste their time?  Silly kids these days.

They do cause fatigue damage to your hardware (when or if it causes failure is statistical in nature, but statistically it is very real).

Why take out pools?  Well, there are many reasons why this happens.  There are many financial and government institutions that would love to undermine bitcoin.  There are probably plenty of speculators that lost big because of gambling money that they couldn't afford to lose and are now angry (angry types make mistakes and will get caught).  There are people who spent a lot of money on mining hardware just to have difficulty prevent them from recouping their investment.  There are probably individuals who mined a lot of coins early and sold them and found that the price went up so much that they could have made a lot more money (irrationally bitter).  There are probably people that dislike individual pools for one reason or another and even some people that dislike the pools since it has largely eliminated solo mining.  Lots of incentive, some financial, some political, some vengeful and some probably for reasons I haven't thought of.  How many have the ability?  Probably not many except perhaps the obvious (banks, governments, financial institutions and more come to mind with little thought).  Bitcoin pools are the most attacked entities that I have ever seen since I have been using the Internet (1992).

You forgot 1 "real" reason...
The man that attacking the network is  Satoshi Nakamoto
Why?

Because when he attack the network the difficulty stay down.. While the difficulty stay down people but more and more hardware even due its not going to pay off..
Soo people buying hardware.. The diffecultiy is not rising as is should have been... People buy more hardware... When the ddos attacks will stop the hashpower of the system will be soo big that the system will be very secure..

DDos attack --> Difficulty not raising  -> people but more hardware --> network secure...

Mine only when pc is IDLE totally indivisible...

Am I the only on who's balance isn't updating hourly?

Worker shares are being incremented, block stats are updated, but my balance hasn't increased in the past two hours.... ?

What is your hash rate?  Look at statistics; any rounds where you have zero shares submitted [and zero payout] ... assuming you are using proportional?  Slow mining with such increased difficulty might just result in no perceivable payment change in an hour.

Balance is not always updated in 00 minutes of each hour.
It will not be updated if you are using Proportional mode and no blocks were found during that hour.
Also one update may be skipped in some other cases.

Those delays only affect the displayed value. Your real balance is correct.

DDoS attacks do not affect the difficulty. It's only a few minutes (rarely hours) of interruption, which is just a very small part of 2016 blocks span.

Tycho, is there any possibility that an alternative port could be setup for unfortunately for me, my best PC is behind a firewall that blocks most communication to non-standard ports. :/

A Personal Quote on BTT from 2011:
"I'd be willing to make a moderate "investment" if the value of the BTC went below $2.00.  Otherwise I'll just have to live with my 5 BTC and be happy. :/"  ...sigh.  If only I knew.

PMI, but how long does it take for a payout type to kick in (ie. switching from PPS to Proportional, or vice versa)?  I was under the impression that you finish up the current block and then you get switched over by the next block.  But I just switched to Proportional and there's been 5 or 6 blocks go by since I switched and I haven't seen my BTC count move at all.  And the block history column is showing + 0.00000000 BTC as if I was still under PPS for those blocks.  Is there some kind of delay where you don't earn any BTC between switching between payout types?
