The pool op can do what ever he feels is necessary, not what you think is necessary. So unless you want the source code for this pool, cause you basically ask every question imaginable move along.

BTW i am sure if you ask real nicely, Eleuthria might even change the name of the pool to what "you" think it should be. Seeing you have a problem with "everything" he does.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I think I will wait for him to decide if he wants to be part of this discussion, but thank you for your opinion Smiley

I have tried Eligius and your pool and I feel I have better results with you. A question about setting difficulty, mine is currently set at the default of 2. Should I increase the setting or is it automatically optomized? Running BFG and hashing at 220gh.

The pool uses variable difficulty with the same target rate as pretty much every pool.  Setting a minimum difficulty is useful for high speed miners (I'd consider anything above 100 GH/s to be "high speed" these days).  Some miners don't smoothly accept work restart messages, so when the difficulty is being ramped up by vardiff you might lose a little speed for the first 30 seconds to a minute or so.  It should be negligible, but I know some ASICs used to have issues when using default difficulty settings on pools because of how fast they were having to communicate share submissions.

If your worker is specifically for the 200+ GH/s miner, I'd recommend you put your minimum to 128.

CYPER, you are a fascinating combination of phenomenally-high maintenance and self-centeredness. There's a heaping spoonful of entitlement mixed in, too. It really boggles my mind to read what you consider to be appropriate comments.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any advantage to increasing the difficulty ie. more shares possible?
And one last question I am trying to understand how the Mined coin is distributed. I am using shift 13614 as an example. It shows 3 blocks total coin awarded 73, Paid to shift 7.26 where did the other 65.74 coins go? do they go to users on PPS or does the pool keep them? Thanks in advance

I can help with the difficulty question.  I'll explain a few things that should help you understand it.  First of all, if the difficulty is too low for the hashpower you are putting on it, you'll be hammering the server with more data than is necessary, and you'll be using more bandwidth on both your side and the server's side.  If the difficulty is too high, you'll experience extreme variance, meaning you may not get a share for hours.  The "sweet spot" is somewhere in the middle.  You're generally safe following the server's recommendations for difficulty.  You should set it to what the websute recommends, but if you set it too low, it will auto adjust to what the operator has determined to be the "sweet" spot.  Another reason to set the initial difficulty properly is some ASICs have difficulty ramping up to higher difficulties.

They go to the previous 10 shifts, not just the one.

Blocks are paid across the 10 open shifts, in order to smooth out variance across the shifts/shares.  So each shift gets *approximately* 10% of the block reward.  It varies slightly because the cutoff is checked every 20 seconds, so one shift might be 2.00b shares even, another might be 2.07b shares.  The reward is weighted so that the block reward given to each *share* is the same across those 10 shifts.

Probably not happening anytime soon.  My current project for the pool is a much higher priority than anything NMC related.

NMC merged mining does not impact BTC earnings.

Thanks for the rapid response, Eleuthria!  Cool I should have been more explicit, it doesn't subtract computational resource from my BTC mining? Just want to make sure I'm not wasting h/s!

The only thing merged mining adds is a couple bytes of data to the coinbase.  You won't be losing any hash rate as a result, and the bandwidth increase is (probably) under 1 meg (downsteram) a day.

Really interesting and informative thread. If it wasn't for the generally obnoxious crap coming from the cyper droid, it would be a pain free read. Perhaps the moderators could endear themselves to the next 100 pages or so and silence the moron.

I have had Jupiter kit running on BTC Guild since day one. Very happy with the pool and cheers to eleuthria for taking the time to answer questions while keeping people in the loop.
