Australia tour of England got the green light from the both boards and they are ready to play 3 T-20 and 3 ODI series next month (3rd Sep- 16th Sep). Schedule clashing a bit with the IPL and some premiere players might miss few games of the IPL due to quarantine rules. Australia tour of England in September confirmedNow this will create new headache for the IPL franchises. The English/Australian players who take part in this series need to be quarantined before they are allowed to participate in the tournament. That means that they will miss the first half of this year's edition. And I don't understand the purpose of this short series. They could have gone for 5 ODIs and 5 ODIs, as the quarantine requirements remain same irrespective of the duration of the series.

Not full tournament though, only one week of action after reaching UAE as there is only 6 days quarantine policy. so they might miss approx 8-10 days of IPL overall.
This will make the tournament a little bit weird I think. We will not see the actual color of the tournament of course. I will have hard time betting without the familiar faces.

English board scheduling series after series Windies>Ireland>Pakistan>Australia so its understandable and there is no 14 days mandatory quarantine for Australian players in the UK. (as per uk's gov guidelines), another factor for 1 short tour. 5 ODI/T-20 series seems bit long IMO. Furthermore I don’t know much about the UAE quarantine rules, but considering it’s IPL I wouldn’t be surprised if those player’s were allowed to skip the mandatory quarantine period, not saying that it’ll 100% happen but then again there’s always a possibility of it happening because of BCCI involvement.

The players may or may not be allowed to skip the quarantine rules. But keep in mind that this is the first major tournament since a long time. 8 teams are taking part. If you add the players, net bowlers, support staff.etc, the total contingent from each team would amount to at least 50-60 individuals. It is upto the team, whether they want to take the risk by skipping the quarantine rules for one or two players.

Why why why??? Can't believe Dhoni announced his retirement so early before the T20 WC. So disappointed that now IPL is the last then. Next year he may stop playing for IPL too. I so hate not seeing him

I so hate not seeing him He was probably planning for the World Cup, but it got postponed. He is not as fit as he was before, and it may be better for him to play less number of matches. Concentrating on the IPL will remove a lot of stress and strain. And I suspect that his difference in opinion with Virat Kohli may have also played its part. I have heard that these two had disputes in the past.

Considering that he retired from Test cricket by the end of 2014, announcing his retirement from international cricket after nearly 6 years doesn't really come as a surprise to me tbh. Raina also have announced his retirement tonight. MSD retired from Test cricket because of a battle with the selectors but he was pursuing his career in the shorter format and he should get a proper farewell because of his contribution as a captain winning all the major tournaments leading from the front, he is physically fit even though he is around 39 and the extension of the World Cup might have changed his mind.

Freaking crazy news indeed. I never expected Raina and MSD to retire simultaneously today, but expect the unexpected as they say. I feel really sad to see my favorite Indian player of all time(MSD) retire like this, but I hope he continues playing in the IPL for the next couple of years.
I believe you know how legends from Indian cricket had their retire? I can't remember anyone having a good retire at all. Nevertheless, MSD deserves a better retire but what makes his mind to retire now? He could have played some matches and go for retire.

Authorities taking same step as English cricket board minus 14 days quarantine. So i doubt if anyone would want to risk anything by undermining the norms. @Juggy777 BCCI is powerful but not powerful enough to dictate any bilateral series of other countries, CA and ECB are not dummy.

@Juggy777 BCCI is powerful but not powerful enough to dictate any bilateral series of other countries, CA and ECB are not dummy. The power of BCCI has become a fork story that majority believe that they could control any country setting up their series . It all comes down to business, India produces a much larger amount of money and if they are not playing against these teams they have the power and authority to make any series possible to keep the ball running as they have media obligation to produce matches just like the BCCI having obligations with the IPL and other series to generate revenue. I believe you know how legends from Indian cricket had their retire? I can't remember anyone having a good retire at all. Nevertheless, MSD deserves a better retire but what makes his mind to retire now? He could have played some matches and go for retire. It was evident that MSD was not getting any support from the team members especially the captain and the selectors about giving him any farewell series and MSD thought it was better to call it quits rather than hanging in there and getting embarrassed if he is not selected for the next series.

The covid-19 pandemic has nothing to do with their retirement and it's their personal decision to say good bye to international cricket.

Two on India's finest players retiring on the same day all thanks to the Pandemic.
Suresh Raina has been unable to play regularly due to injury issues. And that was probably the reason why he retired from international cricket, which is more demanding. He is just 33 years old and nowadays most of the players retire when they are 40-42. He might have took the decision to reduce the workload, so that he could play in the IPL for a longer duration. Afterall, IPL salaries are manytimes higher than the contract fee for the national team.

Yes, Inhuries may be one of the reason for his early retirement and the other would be not getting to play enough. If this year IPL would have been in time then these players would have been able to show their performance and get selected for the T20 world cup or other tournaments. Now the situation is completely different and will remain like this for some time now.

It's not just the injuries. There have been a lot of politics involved with the Indian team. There is a camp headed by N Srinivasan, consisting of most of the current and former CSK players such as Dhoni, Raina and Ashwin. On the other side there is a camp headed by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, supported by Jay Shah/Anurag Thakur. As of now, it looks as if the latter group is having more power.

It would be better if he were decided the announcement after IPL, . Or rather than playing IPL he played the WorldCup for the last time for his national team. I am scared about IPL now as glad he is atleast playing this time but next time he may not play. Also, the team wouldn't be the same without him as a captain. He was probably planning for the World Cup, but it got postponed. He is not as fit as he was before, and it may be better for him to play less number of matches. He may not be in the same form as earlier but still his experience is worth it. He has always been known for his captaincy more and he played well in earlier matches compared to the newbies. This pandemic changed things for him but I don't think he and Virat's controversy had anything to do with his decision. He's just 39 so did not want him to retire so soon.
