Raina the way he has performed in IP could not deliver the same way in the ODI or T20 matches. He is no doubt he good batsman and part time can be used as bowler too. But somehow in recent years he has being in and out of the Indian team too much and always had to perform on the go as there are other members waiting for their chance to come in the team. Just a right decision considering the overall situation.
I agree with your opinion. This is why I love IPL way more than other leagues since we get to see our favorite players in action even after their retirement from international formats which previously wasn't the case.

I still remember watching Sachin, Sehwag etc play at the top of their game in the initial versions of the IPL. It somehow brings out the best versions of Cricketers in different aspects. People will pay even more attention now to the 1st game between CSK and MI.

This may be true to a certain extent. But from what I have seen, once the player retires from international cricket, his popularity takes a beating. Remember what happened to players such as Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. IPL is a two month phenomenon and the hype won't last for the entire year. Also the fan support that these players get while playing for India is much greater than what they get while playing for the city-based teams.

It depends on their performances though. Fans usually remember player performances in a particular format when compared to their overall performances in all formats. For example, players like Chris Gayle are synonymous with IPL.

On the other hand, players like Pujara are synonymous with test cricket. Fans will still remember players in the IPL even after their retirement as long as they perform well.

May not be the case with legends because they have already done and made the country proud with their skills and whatever after their retirement from International cricket we will be witnessing will be bonus and surely as the age increases it is not going be same thing what was 10 years before. So expecting Dhoni hitting helicopter sixes like before is our assumption but reality is that it will not happen but witnessing them on field itself should be more than happy moments for the fans.

Good players do have a special place in the history. Somethings that done can't be undone. We can't compare the hard hitters at this time with the legend of old times.
It also depends on whom you asked. Every viewer has their age of crazy fan following and the one that shines at the peak of their fan following would always remain on their mind.
Personally, the tournament I watched with proper knowledge of cricket was since the 2003 world cup. Tendulkar, Ganguly, Pointing, Gilchrist and other contemporary players feels beloved to me than any new players.
Either with my change in personal preference or the change in cricket format, I'm less and less impressed by individual players. Dhoni seems to be the last indian player I loved to see playing.

Chris Gayle gradually lost his fan-base, when he refused to represent West Indies. And as of now, he is a part of the Kings XI Punjab but I am afraid that he may not receive a regular slot. At 40-years, he is not much older than Mahendra Singh Dhoni. But he is no longer considered as one of the IPL stars. The absence from the international scene has reduced his market value.

CSK should re brand their franchise and change their name into Chennai Retired Super King (CRSK). Close to 95% players are retired but as a team still, A force to reckon with.

Hmm.. I am more skeptical about CSK now. They have legendary players such as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson. But around half the players are above 36 years age and some are close to 40 (Shane Watson, MS Dhoni, Imran Tahir, Harbhajan.etc). For the spin bowlers, this may not affect their performance. But for the batsmen and pace bowlers, their ability to perform in the shorter version of the game decreases with age.

For pace they favor younger bowlers tho, Lungi ngidi, Deepak Chahar comes to my mind and if my memory serves well then Sam Curran and Hazelwood were part of their team too. Bravo +Watson are medium pacer anyway so not counting them.

LOL!
Unless those retired players are unable to perform they can still keep the same name. They have a very powerful team, experienced and intelligent players, this year also they are the favourites to win the tournament.

Good one. This isn't anything new though. CSK were always filled with legends who performed well as a unit under MSD all these years even though many people thought some of the players should simply retire(Watson etc).

For pace they favor younger bowlers tho, Lungi ngidi, Deepak Chahar comes to my mind and if my memory serves well then Sam Curran and Hazelwood were part of their team too. Bravo +Watson are medium pacer anyway so not counting them.
They primarily rely on Chahar, Tahir, Harbhajan and Thakur these days based on what I observed in recent editions. They are a pretty good combo together.

Bowling looks OK for CSK. I am more concerned about the batting though. They lack a batsmen of the calibre of Glenn Maxwell/Colin Munro/Aaron Finch, who can score at a strike rate of above 150 regularly. The current CSK batting lineup (Raina/Jadhav/Watson/Rayudu/Vijay) are not exactly known for power hitting. Only Faf du Plessis comes within that category.

Dream XI, a fantasy sports company has won the bid of sponsorship for IPL. But the amount they'd be spending is much less than what IPL was expecting. IPL was hoping for something around 300 crores while the largest bid from Dream XI was 250 crore. The long term sponsor of IPL, VIVO had to back away from their sponsorship due to anti Chinese sentiments on the government and public level. While Dream XI do still consist a minority stake of Tencent (about 20%).

The BCCI should be happy about this. During the sponsorship auctions last time, Vivo made a bid of ₹440 crore per year, followed by Oppo (₹286 crore). None of the other brands made a bid worth more than ₹200 crore at that time. Therefore I would say that the BCCI got a good deal this time. Now the question is whether Dream 11 will get the expected returns from this deal or not.

The viewership would increase I guess compared to previous years so as there has being no cricket matches for few countries in last 6 months. So fans are awaiting to see them on field and in IPL all major players will come and also since still people continue to work from home so the TV or internet would be on along with the work too. So, I am expecting the Dream 11 would make good returns as well.

Viewership will increase considerably that is for sure, most of us are avoiding to go outside and IPL would be the first and the last big cricket tournament of 2020. Naturally every cricket fan would be watching it to feed their cricket addiction.

I am actually shocked to see that a fantasy sports company was able to bid 250 crore while the rest of the companies failed to do so, i am confused how they are going to raise that kind of money as i have heard about them because of their fantasy picks and the constant advertisement they forward because i registered with them a long back but i had no idea that they had this kind of money to sponsor the IPL.

Its really no shocked for me because India is cricket crazy country and this site is showing they have 80 Million users so mean if they have 100 Rs average profit from them in a year then you can check they have nearly 8 Billion Rs so its possible they have enough funds and can afford to sponsor this easily its really big business now like Europe where peoples are very crazy for soccer and spent millions Euro for fantasy teams and games.

The irony here is that Dream 11 is also backed by Chinese company known as Tencent. They have a stake of about 10 percent in it. I am still not able to digest then why there was an uproar about IPL being sponsored by VIVO?

Was it because it was 100 percent owned by Chinese or was it because Indians were against Chinese money?

10 percent stake is minor ownership. If you have the money, then even you can purchase a 10% stake in Dream XI. Recently Facebook purchased a 9.99% stake in Reliance Jio. Does that make Jio an American owned company? Chinese investors have significant stakes in almost all of the major corporations. But the majority stake is still owned by the public and the other non-Chinese promoters.

You need to view in the context why VIVO withdrew from the sponsorship for a year, if people are that patriotic you need to let go of every Chinese investment rather than picking and choosing and Dream XI has major investment from Chinese conglomerate Tencent and they are a big investor in diverse sectors. I am not a fan of cancel culture and i do not think that will help anyone. The fact remains that Indian companies where not willing to take the bid as the BCCI tried to lure Reliance and TATA but they reject the offers.

Caribbean premier league started and i do not think there are many fans here.

There was just time against this deal so happen otherwise I am feeling this was ok for BCCI to have VIVO as main sponsor now they are losing some good money or may be this was VIVO management decision because mostly these things used just for political power or own sack if Dream 11 is also chines investors backed then surely its matter of surprise for me as well.
