Ginebra will still be at a good position here since they have a good chemistry with Brownlee and they already know how to play the game so this will be a big challenge to other team. SMB having a good import will make them a better team, I’m also not familiar with their imports but I’m sure the locals will adjust and that could be a big game for every team. I’m rooting for new teams to play their best and be on top, this is still possible this conference.
SMB seems well established for this year's season. They might have imports but I guess they're comfortable defending as a team and yes, they will be a big challenge to other teams. Having an import will be an advantage if they will get a good player and it seems that they had a good choice so many fans are supporting and rooting for their team again. They have a good line up this time.

The main reason is Fajardo, he is now healthy, back on his MVP form so it's normal that fans think SMB will be the heavy favorite to win the championship. Ginebra has been an exciting team to follow as well as Brownlee would always gives surprises, so it's gonna be a fun conference again.

Imports have a big impact to the team performance though it's a role game and import alone can't do everything if the other team got 5 players who are moving the ball well, import will be exhausted and at the end of the game they will mostly lose. I also wanted to see a good independent team to be competitive with a guest team and with a big franchise who is known to be dominating this league. It's nice to see someone who will be stepping up and accepting the challenges.

In a Filipino term, "Papalag" though by looking to the current lineup superior lineup of both SMB and MVP teams are still have that upper hands and maybe, aside from that guest team it will still one of SMB or MVP that will win the title.

Anyone came across this trade posted on social media:

Jamie Malonzo to Ginebra in exchange for Arvin Tolentino, Jeff Chan, Prince Caperal, and Kent Salado.

Ginebra will also be acquiring Von Pessumal once NorthPort acquired him from San Miguel in exchange for future draft picks.

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

It seems official, I saw that in many basketball news and pages that this trade has already been confirmed and is about to be executed. I don't think that there will ever be changes to this trade.
The funny part is that most of the reactions were haha and this is what seems to be the joke on this legendary Asian basketball league. It seems that there's no more respect for anything that PBA do within their league. That's what they're up to and trying to mend that part, it's not that late on their part.

I’m about to ask the same question here after browsing this in social media, it looks like the status is still pending but possible to happen. MVP and SMC group are just playing around, shuffling the players in exchange of money. Ginebra is a loaded team and even if they trade those players, other key players will perform, let’s just see it PBA will approve this trade which of course they will because it’s SMC, I just can’t see if this is worth it or not.

Trade usually involve large amount of money and with that Ginebra disposing their old players and getting a new one which is more fit for their game plays, I think that can still be a win win situation for Ginebra. Though some rumors are saying that they are just doing this for Ginebra first and later on will be traded to SMB. The commissioner cap is about to start, I don’t know the adjustment for the teams and players if this trade push through but I see Northport to become more competitive.

That's the power of SMC teams, they can acquire good players from lower teams in exchange for their bench players lol Grin

And the PBA will call it "fair" and "balanced".

Watch out for the next episode of balanced trade. Smiley

This time, I don't think Ginebra will win the championship again despite having Brownlee who is undeniably a good import, why? Because with a healthy Fajardo, he can still dominate inside and with the help of their import, it will be easier for him. If we have a championship odds now, I'm guessing SMB will be the top favorites to win.

SMB is like having 2 imports in the upcoming conference now that JuneMar Fajardo is playing like in his prime. In the last conference, he is consistent in doing a monster performance from eliminations, quarterfinals, and semi-finals up to the Finals. Only an import can stop him but if that's the case, how can teams able to stop the real import of SMB?

SMB is like a tough team to beat again. CJ Perez is also playing in his prime and Terrene Romeo might return next conference. There are also other big men in the SMB that is tough to guard like Mo Tautaa and Vic Manuel. A powerhouse team.

I agree with that, they are the powerhouse team now because Fajardo is healthy already. Mo Tautua alone can give problem to an import, so the import of the SMB is so lucky that he does not have to carry the team or defend well as there are other players that could do that.

And SMB's import is also a big man. I don't know how other teams will compete at a much powerhouse SMB. CJ Perez is also playing at a top level of his career. He is dangerous even Terrence Romeo will not come back next season.

SMB is again will be the Favorite to win the championship for sure

They will be too hard to deal with for sure. They are already a strong team in all Filipino cup and now that they have a strong import, they will be much stronger.

SMB supporters will be glad for sure for having Thomas Robinson on their lineup, but I am sure they would be sad to see the odds on every game of SMB.

I doubt bookies will give a good odd for SMB. They are already too powerful. They dominated PBA last conference, no doubt they will dominate this conference as well.

It's true. This already happened yesterday alongside the controversial 3-way trade between NLEX-TNT-Blackwater.
Just right after the MVP teams are finding ways to be better, SMC teams also made a controversial trade that will make them stronger as well.

PBA doesn't fail to disappoint me especially with these unequal trades. Grin Grin. Ginebra got Malonzo in exchange for 3 bench players and Tolentino who is their starter last conference. Still the trade was imbalanced. The only good thing that I see with this trade is Pessumal being traded to Ginebra. He is a very good three-point shooter and there was a time where he shot, I think 7 or 8 consecutive three-point shots. The problem with him being in SMB is how star-studded the team is; therefore, he isn't given that much time to play. Now with him in the Ginebra where they lack three-point shooters, he might be given more time there.

I don't know if the PBA management is just too dumb to ignore the real problem with the league or they really just ignoring it because they see the league as a business. Sorry for the word "dumb" but that's the exact word to use for them IMO. They are complaining with other countries for the PH players being "poached" while on the other hand, they are allowing these unequal and controversial trades. What an irony it is. I'm a PBA fan but I'll just hope that PH players who has talent in basketball will just play outside PH. More salary, more competition.

A farm team don't have any capabilities to avoid things to happen, we all understand that money is flowing from SMB companies and they don't have any problem in paying huge amount but if you are a legit and independent plus a competitive team, you won't allow such kind of trades to happen, Malonzo still young and a promising star compared to oldies and bench players that's really a big No but nothing is impossible for SMB as the trade already executed and PBA allow them to acquire the promising star.

Nice translation and that will probably happen very soon.

Well, PBA league is losing its popularity already, players are leaving, so I'm pretty sure they will find a way to make it popular again. I'm hoping that they will make big changes and that they would listen to the fans to give way to more teams joining the PBA.

Haha!  Cheesy
That's always way to go if it's for the sisters company trades. But if it's for the other teams that's not part of MVP and SMC, they'll just reject the trade.
Well, what a joke when people think of these trades are becoming always favorable to these powerful and rich teams.

Allowing more teams to join might lose more the credibility of PBA, and beside it’s not cheap to have a new team so we might not see any new team for now. What PBA needs to do is to improve their system, they need to be better so they can get back the trust of the public. Players going abroad is pretty normal, what is not normal is that why they are transferring into a league that PBA is way better? Technically there’s is something wrong with the system and they have to address that issue.

Nice translation and that will probably happen very soon.

Well, PBA league is losing its popularity already, players are leaving, so I'm pretty sure they will find a way to make it popular again. I'm hoping that they will make big changes and that they would listen to the fans to give way to more teams joining the PBA.

Allowing more teams in PBA is a good idea but for me this is not the time yet they will make sure that PBA runs in a good and more entertaining like you said their system must be changed and if that will happen then if there's more team will enter in the PBA the more the interesting to watch and also many players around the Philippines have been given a chance to play in our own leagues. BTW now is the starting of the season .

Adding more team to be another farm team is not the solution to PBA's current problem. There is no competition because all the best players are being hauled in a few powerful teams. Only MVP and SMC teams are getting the good players while the other teams are there just for participation. As mentioned here before, you can already guest who will be playing in the finals and even guess who will win the conference before it even begun. That should be addressed but the commissioners are too blind to see it or just blatantly ignoring it because of money.

Haha!  Cheesy
That's always way to go if it's for the sisters company trades. But if it's for the other teams that's not part of MVP and SMC, they'll just reject the trade.
Well, what a joke when people think of these trades are becoming always favorable to these powerful and rich teams.
That's why I call Comm. Willie "Puppet" because he has been a puppet of these 2 big companies naming MVP and SMC.
Comm. Willie "Puppet" Marcial has approved these unbalanced trades for a very long time already and it's always these 2 companies that are benefitting from it. When will be the time where independent teams will benefit from these 2 companies? Maybe only if the Commissioner will be replaced.

Overall, the Commissioners' Cup will start today, and I don't know if I will be excited to watch games because of these "Fair and Balanced" trades that are happening (a bit of sarcasm on it). The joke is on point that it made me laugh though and starting today, I will call Comm. Willie "Puppet" because that's what he really is.

Thanks for reminding, I didn't notice that the Commissioners' Cup will start today, and it's really true as I verified, almost miss betting on the first game. Well, what can you say, PBA is never balanced, the big team owners will always take the edge since other teams are just farm teams.

Right, so I might have to pass with this games in the beginning, just want to see what will happen.

But obviously as you pointed out the league has somewhat very controversial because the teams are not equally as balance as it had been for years. And perhaps this is one reason why the PBA is losing so much in terms of viewership as compare to it's previous years wherein everyone was glued to their television. Now it's more of people watching because of the "ending" bet.  Grin
