Eagerly awaiting the latest news from Spondoolies (unfortunately no skin in the game for the SP30, so more of a spectator sport for me... while I chew on my bacon).

Any power supply will be less efficient at 120V vs 230V, therefore the maximum supplied power is lower.

Specifically, both the Murata and Emerson are only rated as 1050W on a 120V circuit. (vs 1250+ at 208V+)

This is due to simple physics, and spondoolies cannot do too much about it. Any halfway decent datacenter will have 208V+ available.

It isn´t too difficult to run a 240V circuit in an American home, and the rest of the world doesn´t have such an exotic voltage in their house anyway.

I believe any power supply you max out @ 85-100% of it's capacity, no matter the voltage will be far less efficient when you hit those upper ranges.  Oh, if they are only rated at 1050W @110V  then basically you shouldn't use them if the miner needs anything near that amount. (This would make sense why you can only run them on 208V+) I guess we really need to know what each power supply pulls at the wall to make a better decision. It doesn't look good for 110v.

And yes, I subtract 20-25% for continuous loads. I never would use a 15 amp circuit for anything other then running a couple of lamps, if you want to do mining on 110V at least have a 20amp line.

Voltage makes a difference for efficiency changes with load. PSUs supplied with a low voltage suffer a lot of loss when going from 50% to full load. PSUs supplied with higher voltage suffer smaller losses when going from 50% to full load. The reason for this is that many of the losses are due to ohmic losses, which are equal to I^2 * R, or the current squared times the resistance. The line-side currents in a 120V PSU are twice the currents in the same PSU running on 240V, which means that the ohmic losses are four times as large. When running at 240V, most of the losses come from other sources like switching losses, and those are usually independent of current or linear with current instead of quadratic.

If you actually look at data, you'll see this is true. 120V has a steeper slope on efficiency curves than higher voltages. http://info.servertech.com/blog/?Tag=Power%20Distribution%20Unit

Power supplies can often be used above their ratings, especially if they're well-ventilated and supplied with higher voltage. Power supply manufacturers are interested in not being sued. Their datasheets often reflect this.

As long as the inspector doesn't raise a fit about it, my DC will be using transformer taps to get true 240V. None of this sissy 208V or 230V stuff for us, thankyouverymuch.

And when you go beyond the recommended ratings, it is not because the power supply itself cannot handle the load. You are most likely lessening the MTBF (how long the parts last) of the components because of heat.  If you took a temp gun and made sure all components inside of the power supply were not too hot comparing normal rating temps vs. going above the rating, I am sure at that point you would be fine with extra ventilation.

and about 110V vs. 115v. vs. 120v, just use a meter to check your actual voltage and use that for your calculations.

Things are moving now, customer access has been added to the shop, passwords for customers mailed.
The customer panel has a link to a form where you can "Claim your compensation" but it only gives option 1 or 2 without further information.

Miner theft is a serious issue, and you are right to be concerned. There's plenty of fraud in the bitcoin world and on this forum in particular, and you are wise to be cautious.

My brother (Michael Toomim) and I (Jonathan Toomim) are offering hosting starting in August or September. This will be our first hosting offering, so we don't have a reputation with that yet. We're both quote Googleable. Our DC is currently under construction in Grant County, WA. If you Skype me (ID: jtoomim), I'll give you a quick tour of our DC in construction. I think that will show that we've already invested enough money in this project that we'd likely be able to make more money by actually acting in good faith as hosting providers for a number of years than we'd get by stealing miners. I also can show ID to verify my identity. Roadstress and Spondoolies can verify that we've ordered a total of 68 SP30s so far, including 37 from the August group buy.

I think we can show that we have more to lose than to gain by being dishonest. If that's not good enough for you, then you can wait a couple months for us to acquire a few more adventurous customers and some reputation, or choose another hosting provider. With our prices, there's a good chance we'll be sold out by then, though. Hashplex sold out in less than a month, and our prices are even better than theirs.
