Nagasaki and Hiroshima were real world tests, plain and simple. The fire-storm bombings of Tokyo http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/tokyo.htm had already broken the japanese spirit and several more civilian attacks like these over the other big Japanese cities would have likely caused the same desired surrender outcome that was needed to stop the horrific island fighting as the Allies advanced on the mainland.

Do you know what a Monday morning quarterback is?

Hit a yankee nerve did I?

*scratches head*. I don't hink you looked that up, so I did it for you: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Monday+morning+quarterback

love the term, btw,... will use.

Well, I present you:

Gold stagnating. Silver & Bitcoin UP.

Who is hijacking who?  Cheesy

Why, again...  did we add uranium to the mix?

i resisted 4 a long time because they dont coin DU.  but i give in.  DU has the amazing and I think unique property that it actually sharpens when it hits something.  Explains its use in armor and bunker piercing munitions.  its not about the USA throwing its poisonous trash out creatively...

I'd love to have a DU coin, or any chunk of the stuff to add to my collection of interesting items.  I doubt that DU has particularly special mechanical properties aside from being extraordinarily dense and thus good at carrying kinetic energy over space.  I'll bet you'll find tungsten as a component of most of these weapons to exploit it's unusual mechanical properties.  But I don't know either of these conjectures to be true.

U.S. Business interests have had a rich history of developing and exploiting revenue streams and for about a century have had a reputation for being adept at it.  Firstly they obtain vast sums of money extracting fissile material from nuclear waste, then fire the waste from that process at foreigners at probably hundreds of USD per round, and at thousands of round per minute.  You gotta admit that it is brilliant.  Disturbing yes, but also brilliant.

Take off your tinfoil hat and use google.  This isn't the wall observer thread where idiots talk trash.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depleted_uranium
Quote
Depleted uranium is favored for the penetrator because it is self-sharpening and pyrophoric.[30] On impact with a hard target, such as an armored vehicle, the nose of the rod fractures in such a way that it remains sharp. The impact and subsequent release of heat energy causes it to disintegrate to dust and burn when it reaches air because of its pyrophoric properties.

There's a really informative Scientific American article about DU properties (sometime within the last 10yrs, I forget when) but that is probably pay-walled.  But I'm sure you can find other papers.

For the fun of it, I sometimes attempt to infer things based on my various understandings rather than doing extensive research and regurgitation.  Sometimes I'm right and sometimes not.

In this case I appear to be mostly right.  Most, if not all, DU rounds with armor piercing design (which would be plain old most) use either multiple metal designs in which tungsten often appears, or an alloy to impart the desired fragmentation properties onto DU.

Also, accd to the Wikipedia info, the carcinogenic nature of expended DU ammunition is almost certainly much more strongly associated with the atomization of other elements of the round or target than it is with the depleted uranium itself.

As for the 'tinfoil hat' claim, which part causes you such animation?

 - The fact that corporations make a lot of money running nuke plants?

 - Refining out the fisile material?

 - Make a lot selling the waste of the waste to the military to expend in the middle east?

 - The chain of profit was not a complete accident of fate but actually a product of a reasoned business strategy?

Beyond paper promises, there is no rationale based in reality that suggests such an outcome.

[sarcasm]It's always nice when someone enters the discussion only to push their wares. It really entices me to purchase whatever it is they are selling. The readers of this thread obviously don't have the skills to navigate to the "Goods" forum, even if they wanted to make a purchase. Oh, if anyone in the thread is interested, I have a tractor for sale. You know, you can use the tractor to dig for gold nuggets. Where did I put that link again?[/sarcasm]

I just bought the excavator I've been talking about on this thread over the years.  Liquidated (or -ing) some BTC to float my fiat balances where I want them because of it.  It's not do dig for gold though, but that is mostly because there is absolutely none in my area due to the geology, and the haul-in costs to get the machine to a mining claim (which I also don't have) would be excessive.

Someday I do hope that I can buy tractors for BTC directly and such posts will not be sarcastic.  Actually, now I want a dozer, but that is the idea.  (I want ROPS and a logging winch FWIW Smiley )

Been lurking on this for a while.
Sarcasm appreciated.
I'd contemplated leading with the information that I have an associate with both tungsten and depleted uranium rings and he hasn't seemed to suffer any ill effects of daily wearing them (So there are non military uses that are much less lucrative), but I thought I would start with the commerce and see where that took it.

The gold drop on April 12,15 was from a block trade of over 28billion. That dropped the market over 70 points and triggered a bunch of other selling.  Its a manipulated market due to the ETFs, which provide liquidity to the banks that don't have the reserves to sell, but can sell as much naked short as their FOMC can print.

Heh. You should post a pic of your new excavator (or a generic internet pic of the model)!

Looks a lot like this:

but mine has steel tracks and a nice hydraulic thumb.  It's about half the size I was initially intending to get, but I'm not in a hurry and if it takes a long time to dig out a stump or what-not at least it operates economically.  I'm not sure I like the offset arm due the complexity, but in the few occasions when I end up using it I'm sure it'll be great to have, and if I ever decide to take on side-jobs for money it'll be great to have the flexibility.  It can swing 180 degrees within it's track prints if working between buildings or whatever.  The machine is supposed to have only 2500 hours so if taken care of a bit it should be only 1/3 -> 1/2 way through it's life expectancy.

I see a pretty cool old Allis Chalmers cat not far from here with a 2cyl Detroit.  I might follow up on that.

Now people are mad at me for taking the discussion off topic, LOL!

Ya, this thread has had a long and varied life and has strayed from topic much over it's life-time.  That is part of the reason why it has appeal to me.  Not sure how many others feel the same.  In any event, the subject always seems to brings it back on target.

To be back on-target, the pic and story can be an illustration of what Bitcoin can do for a person just as the pic of Caldwell's Mercedes.  Me and cypherdoc tried our level best to inform people that such a thing was possible back in the 'dark' $2/BTC days.  Perhaps someday I'll post a pic of a Lear Jet (although I personally would opt for a Cessna Caravan if money was no object.)  I continue to believe that it is wise to hedge one's bets with other things beside Bitcoin though.  PMs in my case.

Any internal heavy metal is not a good thing.  Lead is bad to inhale too and I hear they sometimes make bullets of that too.

Very good point, I think that makes a valid reason to poising another contrary water supply, guilt free.
