Next up. Total net value Bitcoin vs. total net value gold.
Now that would be interesting.  Either way BTC=1OZ parity is great.  A bit fast but maybe time to roll over some more OZ to BTC.

This is not some pseudoeconomic post-modern Libertarian cult, it's an un-led, crowd-sourced mega startup organized around mutual self-interest where problems, whether of the theoretical or purely practical variety, are treated as temporary and, ultimately, solvable.

If you are serious, talking values in the $100k->$200k range, and willing to do a careful transaction which make a rip-off very unlikely, feel free to ping me.  Unless things change I'll probably wish to do such a deal early next year.  If the BTC values continue to rise, I may end up wanting to do a bigger deal (and the converse holds to a point as well.)

I'm guessing that whoever just sold around $3M on Mt. Gox probably was tripped by the parity event.  Looks like a pretty healthy back-fill after the crater though.  Hopefully we've got  a long way yet to ride.  We'll see.

the world has changed forever.

goodbye gold.

When bitstamp and other exchanges hit it I'll be on the train here. Gox prices are at this point irrelevant to me. Just funny munny sloshing around in their platform.

In any case we are on the cusp of all exchanges hitting that parity point. That is when the TRUE price (in my view) hits parity.

It is part of the plan, when the news breaks tomorrow there will be questions, and after the education a few will want to buy in before it goes up too much. This is how Bitcoin spreads, China on the other hand is marching to its own drum, so that incubation stage between question and answer is going to be short. I hope it takes at least 2 weeks for all exchanges to catch up.

Cypherdoc - Congratulations. It will soon be lost how outlandish this parity point seemed when this thread was started. It's worth noting that bitcoin was trading at $4, and virtually no one had heard of it. It took a lot of vision to see, and publicly argue, the transition which will soon seem so obvious in retrospect. It's been an incredible year and a half, and this thread (and its predecessor) remain some of the most economically thought-provoking discussions I've ever read.

Now to drive the point home, I think it's just wonderful that parity was hit in the opening hours of Bitcoin Black-Friday. I'm going to be doing most of my holiday shopping today. Online. Using bitcoin. Try that with gold.

Bitcoin is the first monetary system to credibly offer perfect information to all economic participants.

LOL, this post has became some sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy, someone seems to be actually trying to pump gold and dump bitcoin!  About time, I don not want to see gold give up without a fight anyway!

Yes, you are correct about gox. But the media doesn't care, they use gox because it's highest and they want the headlines first.

Of course all this is arbitrary (1 oz vs 1 BTC, 21 million supply vs gold supply). "Market cap" is much more meaningful and for Bitcoin to reach parity with golds value in that category will take a little more time to achieve...

What a great story, though.

Gold collapsing, Bitcoin UP.
