Why does everyone want to use Linux with their mining gear? These days a Windows 7 machine can run just as efficient and stable as any Linux distro out there and you have all you need. What's the reason for using Linux at all besides being old school and really just liking Linux?
Because it has always been trivial to script things with Unix: Linux geeks know how to configure their system to autostart everything at boot time. Windows users have to hack around. Because you can't distribute a pre-configured Windows image for USB keys to others so that they can profit from your knowledge (both because creating a generic Windows LiveUSB is probably impossible and because Microsoft just doesn't want you to do that). Because serious miners with multiple rigs and adding rigs regularly can simply copy an USB key content to another with minimal changes to get another fully configured system right away. Because you don't have to pay for any license or make sure you don't infringe on anything. Because you don't have to buy a PC if you don't use GPUs anymore: FPGA mining rigs can be run from smaller, less costly and less power hungry Linux-based home routers with 32MB. |

Auto starting services/programs with Windows is horribly easy. The only thing that I can see people going for Linux is because it is free. With today's OS you can pretty much do anything and everything you can as with Linux. Mostly everything today is cross platform. Don't get me wrong, I run several Linux boxes at home, even my Newznab server runs Linux and my web hosting VPS run CentOS and they are great for that. I was just curious as why mining people opted for Linux, that's all. Maybe one day Microsoft will release a FREE OS to the world. |

Every time another Avalon is delivered, you are losing more and more credibility. AFAIK you are the only one claiming that jgarzik, the Foundation, and all others who have received units are "part of the scam". I would be interested to enter in a personal bet with you that batch 1 will be shipped by some date.
Avalon is more than likely a scam. So jgarzik has one, I guess I should believe him even though there were many bets that were likely to be a good enough reason to lie and say you have a working asic. Bitcoin foundation had one, ok but do they still have one? It was my understanding the nzwhatever guy just brought it there to show it off. Also there is still the possibility that the machines turn on and produce heat but are really just a proxy for a gpu farm somewhere. How does one know when he won't release the source code? So 1 month later, and plenty of Avalons delivered... I was right (again). Why do people argue against me? They never learn  |

I ran 3 GPUs in an Antec 300 with 2 fans like that, and the middle ones usually get decently hot. I never saw above 80, tho. |

The GPU in this phone has just been replaced by a 7970 and a 5870. I get 1000 MH's at the moment with it. The knife and pistol is to make sure no one messes with it and for protection.  |

I have got an M4 in my bedroom and a police extendible cosh "Friction Baton" in the kitchen draw.
Anyone breaks into my place and I go to work on their legs for a few minutes, normally that is enough to convince them to crawl back where they came from.
No-one touches the rig!

Linux is free? You can buy a bunch of motherboards on Newegg, and not have to buy a $150 license for a legal OS? I'd be willing to bet a lot of the miners on windows you see just delete the "genuine advantage" (the install/os verifier) update and they aren't exactly all paid versions of windows. Not speaking of my own of course. They are all paid for! |

Finally I setup the unit, and add some mobility to it, so I can drag it instead of lift it up Nice IKEA hack there. The Lack tables are very useful for all sorts of things. |
