I thought this was porn? What do you normally look at??  it is better than porn and is properly called 'Pr0n'.... there's a fine line between the two and it's tough to tell the difference sometimes but the properly spelled 'Pr0n' and always takes authority over standard 'porn' or 'porno'..... they are usually much easier to find on the net than this kind of stuff |

Temperature variation is the real card killer. I'd agree with anything < 80-85C, but some cards just don't stay that cool even standing alone with good ventilation and room-temperature ambient environments.
It's more important to make sure your temperatures aren't swaying significantly on a regular basis, the (small) expansion/contraction will eventually stress the metals in your GPU, leading to reduced life.
A stable 80C is far better than swinging between 60C and 80C every day.
This isnt quite true. Heat cycling is a small risk for haircracks in solder and underfill. This problem has become well known when a batch of nVidia cards suffered from a manufacturing deficiency that made them extremely vulnerable to this. These are the cards you can usually "fix"by reflowing them in an oven. This is something that pretty much never happens with AMD cards. High temps otoh increase electromigration. Electro migration can be thought of as "internal wear" inside the chip. Its what over time leads to lower overclocks (if transistors in the critical path are affected) or instability and plain old dead cards. This is far more frequent, particularly with mining cards. Electromigration is a function of heat and the relationship is exponential. |

Yep, and thanks for including the additional one-hole PSU bracket - I am getting read to build a "mini" version of the same frame with the same layout, but only 1 PSU, 2 cards, and a tiny little mini-atx mobo. Then I will have the 6-card granddaddy and the 2 card baby all set up and hashing at an estimated 3300 mhash/s and 1500 watts or so. |

Cooling is fine. The square tube is 3/4 inch thick, and the top of the bracket has about 1/2 inch of blank space. I did have to remove 2 screws holding the bracket to the card so that it would fit flush to the tubing. I used self-tapping screws to make it fast and easy. But I only see 5 connected and that should be so on what I guessing is an Asrock970 board.
Yes, an Asrock 970 Extreme4 - I have been making use of PCI-to-PCIe cards, which are working fine. Since PCI has only 25 watts, I m using a powered x16 -> x16 after the adapter to keep it from burning out. I buggered up some of my extenders by being too rough with them, and that's why 5 of the 6 are connected - but the 5 are mining away at 925/150 at ~60 degrees at 60% fan. getting 2060 mahash/s at the mo. |

Here it is, I finally got around to getting the camera out. This is my home made/bodged/ghetto cabinet I threw together one weekend. It was an old glass cabinet I found in a skip which I ripped all the glass out apart from the door and replaced with some perspex I had lying around. It cost me nothing to make, apart from buying the bathroom extractor fans. 4 x 5870's in the top & 2 x 6990's in the bottom. I had some real trouble cutting that perspex with a jigsaw causing some splits and cracks (easily fixed with good old super glue) Until I discovered some spray grease and covered the blade and perspex to keep it cool while cutting. And yes, that's a pair of my mothers tights I stole to use as air filters! I salvaged an old computer case for the hdd bay & the power switches for the side. (it was such a pain leaning inside and using a piece of plastic to flip the switch) You can't really see from the pictures but I used to use cardboard to wedge the 5870's apart for airflow, but I have upgraded to a length of meccano which works perfectly (hence the little meccano spanner) This is running happily in my garage which is about 30m away from my house, I bought some old routers off ebay and set them up as access points to get internet in there. Clocks: 5870 1: 985/300 458mhs 72C 5870 2: 940/300 437mhs 65C 5870 3: 940/300 437mhs 60C 5870 4: 940/300 437mhs 63C 6990 1: 920/600 413mhs 72C 6990 2: 920/600 413mhs 71C 6990 3: 920/600 413mhs 73C 6990 4: 920/600 413mhs 69C All fans are at 85% and ambient room is around 25C      I've just finished my second cabinet, I had some 5970s come in and thought I should expand a little and combine everything to take up less space in my garage. Maybe I will sell the other one on ebay  Sorry for the crap picture quality, it is taken on my mobile phone and I have literally just finished it, I might have to tweak a few things here and there but I was excited to show you guys  It currently holds 1x 6770, 1x 6990, 6x 5870 and 6x 5970 1000m3 air in via 2 fans split between each 2 sections, 500m3 air out via the 4 exhaust ports. I have only had it mining for around 30 minutes so far, so I won't quote temperatures just yet, but its looking good so far. (Will have more time this weekend to play around with it and get some proper pictures and temperature readings)  |

Started mining in June, this is my rig, 2x HD 5850 and 1x HD 6850, planning to replace 6850 with a 58xx and add 1-2 more GPUs (some 58xx) by next month. Had to replace Corsair VX 550 because it broke after approx. 336h of continuous load of ~600W (all GPUs and Q9300 overclocked and overvolted). TX850 is fine now From your pic, the PSU 12V pin on the ATX connectors are burnt. If you still have the PSU, it is still usable. Just replace the pins and the ATX connector and you are good to go.
