1541  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: November 26, 2022, 02:43:35 PM
I feel like there is an overreacting to UCL, it's not an easy cup to win and there shouldn't be a pressure on the players. In any case, Mbappe is very very young, he will still be playing football after Messi and Neymar retires, which means that we could see the owners building a whole team around him yet again and again, maybe get some other known players.
They can only build their team around Mbappe if he is happy in Paris and accept to play for them in next few years or one decade. Since a season beginning, Mbappe does not show he is happy in PSG even receiving so high salary from the club. Depends on PSG results in this season, Mbappe will decide to continue with them or to leave.

Quote
Like for example, everyone talks about Jude Bellingham going to premier league as an English player, what if PSG ends up paying him good money to go there? If they can build a team of players age 25 or under, to surround Mbappe with great talent, then even if they don't win now, they can win 5-6 years later with that roster.
In the past, English players did not want to move beyond their country and Premier League to play in other countries at other leagues. Very few English players in the past accepted such risk and had abroad playing journeys. Only few like Steve McManaman (Real Madrid), Gascoinge (Lazio), Owen, Beckham, Woodgate (Real Madrid).

Recent years, we saw more English players moved beyond Premier League especially young players are more keen on Bundesliga to grow their career like Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham (Dortmund). Smalling and Tammy Abraham moved to Serie A to revive their career.

However playing in Ligue 1 is not their favorite option at least now. It is interesting assumption that Jude will be a pioneer for English players in Ligue 1. It is possible because PSG is very rich and they can give Jude an irrejectable offer.
1542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin hits 500 GB size hard disk data on: November 26, 2022, 02:27:45 PM
I heard the news that bitcoin is most close to receiving 500 GB size hard disk data, so I am just confused if a newbie or beginner tries to start download bitcoin, how much minimum hard disk he must buy and prepare?
Downloading Bitcoin is not correct!

You actually meant about downloading a complete Bitcoin blockchain to your wallet and store it at your computer (hard disk), that is for a Bitcoin full node.

Pros and Cons of Bitcoin Node types (Full node and Prune node)

On another hand, a newbie or a beginner does not have to start with a full node or Bitcoin Core. They can have a more affordable option, with SPV wallet like Electrum wallet. With SPV wallet, they don't have to prepare too much storage space like Bitcoin core (either full node or prune node).

Electrum: https://electrum.org/#download and verify it
1543  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to get bitcoins for free? on: November 26, 2022, 02:14:05 PM
Faucets are very generous in the past but it is reasonable when Bitcoin was not massively adopted like now and its price on market was very low.

The first Bitcoin faucet is run by Gavin Andresen and it paid to 5 BTC for each claim with easy task. Do you know what? Filling captcha and receiving 5 BTC  Grin

He announced it at Get 5 free bitcoins from freebitcoins.appspot.com

Below is the faucet with Wayback Machine.

Nowadays, it is more realistic to work and get money in salary which can be used to buy BTC.
1544  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: November 26, 2022, 01:50:10 PM
Germany must get up because if not it will likely be more difficult to get points back because Spain is not an easy opponent what if something goes wrong again in Germany vs Spain match this will certainly be unexpected again for the second defeat and I think Spain will try to win even though Germany will be stronger than that but it is a very crucial and interesting spectacle.
The second match day is important for Germany but Spain will satisfy if they can get only one point from this match. With three points from the first match and a last match to meet Japan, Spain can win only a last match to be qualified in this group.

In contrast, Germany will close their gate if they won't get three points from Spain. With what Spain shown in the first match day of this group, they are very strong and can control matches very well. Germany will get big trouble in this match with Spain.

Quote
So in this group phase, Germany should be able to win again if they draw with Spain I don't think it's a comfortable position for Germany, so they should be able to get points, at least for the next victory.
If Germany can not win Spain, they will very likely be out of World Cup. Because Japan looks likely to win Costa Rica. It means their last match with Spain will not be too important and they might accept a lose in their last match.

Quote
Japan vs Costa Rica, I'm sure Japan can dominate the game to win it because Costa Rica doesn't look like it will be better than Japan because I saw from the previous statistics but Japan certainly has more motivation for the game they won before with Germany.
If Japan can beat Costa Rica, they will be qualified for knock-out phase. With good mood after a shock win against Germany, I bet that Japan will beat Costa Rica in their second match.

In history, Japan has 6 wins in World Cup, will it make a match with Costa Rica be a seventh win?

Extra time drama. Maybe that's what Iran's news page will show after picking up their first 3 points at the World Cup against Wales.
The 90+8 and 90+11 minutes will be the most memorable minutes if Iran manages to qualify from Group B later.
It started after Wales had a red card for their goalkeeper. Even it is a red card, time left is not much but Iran managed to make a shock. It's another shock from Asia, after Saudi Arabia and Japan. In addition, it is a first time in this World Cup with so many extra minutes, we witnessed two goals like this.

Quote
Carlos Queiroz was the influential tactician behind Iran's dramatic victory over Wales. 4 midfielders replaced by him including Azmoun. Iran's first scorer against Wales, Cheshmi was a player who played as a center back, but Queiroz included him in place of a player who played as a midfielder. At first I thought that Queiroz decided to keep the draw, but what happened instead was to win.
Azmoun did have a good match for Iran and he did not have enough luck to get a goal for himself in the match. However, a win and three points for Iran are more important. This result is a good brick for Iran to hope for a position in top 2 of this group B.

With this defeat, Wales will have a very big task in the last round when they will meet England. Will it be a last match of Gareth Bale for Wales?

[Unofficial Guide] Reporting effectively

Forum already has many restrictions on newbies and theymos does not want to implement more. Please read his post

Right, I don't care about making money from the forum personally. (I've actually thought about getting rid of the forum ads, since it's often a big headache and the forum has enough reserves for a long time, but operating at a significant loss while there's money basically just sitting on the table feels wrong, even if the level of loss is sustainable for quite a while.)

The things on the forum which encourage spam are allowed mainly because it's part of the forum's mission to be as free as possible. Eg. banning bounties would undoubtedly reduce spam, but that'd be destroying an entire economy/population/culture which has been able to develop due to the forum's freedom. I am willing to take this sort of action, but only as an absolute last resort. It's always preferable to handle these problems by reshaping the environment to make them non-problems, rather than removing some freedom.

It's wonderful when someone is able to constructively do something on the forum instead of continuing with whatever they were expected to do under the status quo. Enabling that sort of thing is exactly why Bitcoin and this forum were created. Though bitcointalk.org is not a worldwide welfare organization, and people are not entitled to make money.

Limiting newbie participation is very harmful for a community. Newbie jail will never return: I consider the newbie-jail period to have been extremely damaging to the forum. When barriers to participation are too high, then the best people often just won't go to the trouble of joining, and the people who are willing to jump through the hoops are often people who aren't good for the community: people with nothing better to do, scammers, get-rick-quickers, etc. Having a permanent newbie jail policy would improve things a lot in the short-term, but would end up being a fatal poison to the community.

The low signal-to-noise is a real issue which seriously annoys me and is often on my mind. But as you mention, fixing it non-destructively is difficult.

Quote from: theymos topic=https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/boixpg/comment/enhn6v6/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x
Primarily, it's just that freedom + size = mess, and with bitcointalk.org I've chosen to keep freedom about as high as possible, for example allowing paid signature ads, poor English, micro-earning services which often attract a spammy crowd, etc. Banning these things (and other noise-generating factors) would be easily possible, and would immediately lead to a cleaner environment, but it'd also be a less free environment. IMO there are enough highly-controlled platforms around, and I'd prefer to try maximizing the freedom axis. (Maximizing freedom on the forum was a policy started by Satoshi when he was an admin, BTW, though it was years after he left before the forum became large enough for freedom to actually come in conflict with signal much.)

Bitcointalk.org is under active development on two parallel paths:
  • First, although the outward appearance hasn't changed much at all since 2010, I have made tons of changes to the code, including many features. About a year ago for example I added the Merit system, which has improved signal-to-noise quite a bit, by means of changing incentives.
  • Second, a completely new software platform has long been in development. This software is open source, can be run now, and an instance of it is available for example at https://www.cryptos-currencies.com/ . But I don't think that it's quite complete enough to migrate bitcointalk.org to it yet.
On both development paths, we try to tackle signal-vs-noise by methods such as categorizing posts better, improving incentives, trying to create smaller sub-communities, etc., but not via restriction, if at all possible.

While I don't claim to have nearly maximized the signal-to-noise which might be possible even given a high degree of freedom, bitcointalk.org is pretty anarchic, and it will always be so. (Though note that some sections are much better than others.) If that doesn't appeal to you, then you should use a different site. Smaller communities, like IRC channels and similar, can be both free and have a high signal-to-noise ratio. This was bitcointalk.org in 2010-2013, but it's now too large. You can also have large communities that are more strictly moderated, like r/Bitcoin.

1550  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2022 Group Stage Highlights on: November 25, 2022, 12:10:24 PM
But unfortunately Ronaldo and Messi could not beat the record for top scorers in the World Cup of all time belonging to Miroslav Klose, even Ronaldo and Messi have never written their names on the top scorer board in the World Cup championship, as long as they participated in the World Cup, scoring goals in the world cup is a great thing, that's true, but they can't score as many goals in 1 World Cup event as Miroslav Klose, even Pele and Maradona can't do it, what you say doesn't make me an extraordinary thing, even all players in the world can do it...
Messi and Cris Ronaldo have very bad records in World Cup. They struggled to score goals there even they had hundreds of goal with their clubs. Many reasons for this, they got exhausted after long seasons with their clubs; their national teams relied on them too much which makes them more easily to be quarantined by opponents.

Surely that both Messi and Cris Ronaldo will not be able to hit 16 goals or more in total in World Cup.

Quote
Try to see if there are names of Them Both there !!!

I knew about the record holder, Miroslav Klose but today when I saw the record table again, I felt a bit sad for Ronaldo (Brazil). He should be a player who holds the record. Klose is a good player but he is far under in quality than Ronaldo (Brazil) but even so I recognized what he did in many World Cups with Germany. He had a first World Cup with Germany in 2002 and continued to scored in later World Cups.
1551  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: November 24, 2022, 02:43:19 PM
The performances of smaller teams like Canada, Japan and KSA surprised everyone. And so I see no reason to think that Brazil or Portugal will easily win the next matches. Every match of this World Cup has become quite competitive.
Surprising results from Saudi Arabia and Japan make this World Cup more interesting. In the next round, big teams like Argentina and Germany will have to play with more pressure and they are no longer have time to enjoy. It's time to fight seriously for them, else they will become World Cup audiences.

The result is unknown and South Korea should not be underestimated. Another Asian-South American matchup. Uruguay will have a hard time serving a goal to South Korea. Let's see how things turn out.
The match is unknown because both teams created chances so far. When it comes to last half of the second half, result is still 0 - 0 and Suarez already was substituted by Cavani. If any team can score a goal from now, they will probably get a final win.

Uruguay is a little bit unlucky because a headshot from Diego Godin hit a keywood pillar of Korea. Valverde so far did not show his ability to create dangerous distant shots like he shown in Real Madrid this season.

Indeed, Spain played very brilliantly in their first match, they scored 7 goals without reply, showing their ferocity. Luis Enrique was very brave to bring out his young players to destroy Costa Rica in the first game.
Young Spanish players remind us about golden era of Spain when they won big titles in-a-row. They destroyed Costa Rica and did not allow that opponent to have a single shot to Spanish goal. Their ball possession time is too high and I am surprised as Barcelona midfielders including Busquet, Gavi and Pedri actually are good trio. They played better than what they did in Barcelona as weeks ago, Busquet received so many bad reactions from Barcelona fans because of his bad performance.

Quote
Meanwhile, Hansi Flick only relies on players who can be said to be old. The Group E stage is likely to be dominated by Japan and Spain, while Germany and Costa Rica will be the spectators of the Qatar World Cup.
1552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could 17.5k BTC actually be 13-14k pre-inflation? on: November 20, 2022, 03:31:49 PM
Bitcoin price is very cheaper than its all time high. If anyone dreamed to see this price under $20,000 a few months ago, now they have it and should take it.

I think Bitcoin is gradually forming its bottom but it will need more months to pass through some necessary phases of psychology of market before a new bull run can be started. We have yet reached to Capitulation and Anger phases and before an ending of Anger phase, we should have another terrible dump which is a last test. That dump should be similar to what we saw in March 2020.

1553  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ FIFA World Cup 2022: Tournament Discussion Thread for Qatar 2022 on: November 20, 2022, 10:03:25 AM
I also predicted that Qatar will wins their opening match. England and Senegal will also win their matches, Croatia will also win their match with Morocco. Why Qatar will win their first leg is that, they have strong defense their midfielders are also good. All the rest predictions you made are very good.
From your predictions, all stronger teams will win, that is unrealistic.

In addition, you should know one more fact, host teams of World Cups usually don't win in opening matches. Let me share historic records about that.

It is true for Defending champion era (1974–2002) and Host country era (2006 - 2018) in general. Personally I can explain it like this, teams are champions or from hosting countries will start World Cups with very high expectation from fans that bring a lot of pressure on their players. Usually, they were not able to play at their best capacity.

DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging
DCA is more matched with long term investment, not with trading.

Two important reasons that DCA is not good for trading
  • Most of traders use all their capital for trading. Consequently, if they have bad entries, they no longer have another capital (reserved one) for DCA
  • DCA is good for Bitcoin but for altcoins, it is not too good. Most of altcoins lose their prices about -90% from their all time highs. So what do you plan to DCA with altcoins? The more you DCA, the more risk you are taking more loses. Even if you DCA around bottom, you might exit when you lose your patience and feel angry with market.

1555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will CBDCs will impact Bitcoin? on: November 20, 2022, 09:46:22 AM
CBDCs are still fiat currencies that are made digital. They're not much different from the fiat that we use through fiat online wallets. It's just that there's no more hard cash representing them. They remain centralized because they're still issued by governments' central banks. They are still subject to the same inflationary mechanism. They're still continuously devalued. They're still under the control and decision of a few powerful individuals. The disadvantage, however, is that they're more easily tracked, monitored, frozen, seized, confiscated.
I believe CBDCs are worst than fiat currencies in terms of inflation. There are less production cost for CBDCs than fiat currencies. Much less infrastructures for minting, maintenance and so on. Governments can mint $T in one click when they want to do this without prerequisite to have paper, polymer, print, printing machines, human resources etc. This brings convenience to governments that in turn will make their inflationary management worse.

Quote
The point is it doesn't actually compete against Bitcoin.
CBDCs will never compete directly with Bitcoin. What they compete is usage demand from their citizens by choosing either fiat currencies or CBDCs.
1556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What happens if binance and tether goes down on: November 20, 2022, 09:41:52 AM
Bitcoin created first or Binance exchange created first? and if I remember correctly, binance has only been around since 2017 and before that we also had many other centralized exchanges. All of them have a lifespan and are always replaced by other exchanges from time to time. So there is no reason that when binance dies the cryptocurrency will also disappear, but if bitcoin dies there is a high probability that the market and exchanges will be gone.

Binance or tether or any other company or project is just a part of this market, so without them there would be another product to replace them.
Exchanges come and go but we can not deny that if Binance collapse like FTX, its impact should be bigger because they are a bigger exchange than FTX. Their chain, Binance Smart Chain is bigger than Solana too.

Unless their report - Our Commitment To Transparency - is cooked, their finance management is good and healthy. According to this, they did not use customer money inappropriately and did not take too high risk like FTX.

Tether is a biggest stable coin and its impact (if it collapse) would be bigger than UST impact in May 2020.

Whatever happen with Binance and USDT in future, I am sure governments will launch more laws and execute more strictly regulations on cryptocurrency and blockchain. For future, it is good, not bad.

1558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will CBDCs will impact Bitcoin? on: November 19, 2022, 02:44:21 PM
Fiat is not completely anonymous but it can still be anonymous, just like criminals use fiat to launder money and do their evil deeds without being detected by the police. But if we get rid of fiat completely and replace it with CBDC, things can be very different because the government can control everything even our smallest actions.

But it is true that CBDC cannot affect bitcoin because in my opinion bitcoin is not a currency but an asset more like gold, but regulation will affect bitcoin.
Both fiat currencies and CBDCs are traceable but with CBDCs and blockchain technology, governments can have more easily to do their works.

With fiat currencies, in countries with good laws and regulations, their governments can have enough data to trace flow of your money and can more easily to detect money laundering. This is a good example on how regulations can contribute to help society better.

After the Terra and FTX collapses and some related entities, I believe more regulations will be executed soon but it is good for cryptocurrency and blockchain ecosystems in future.
1559  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA 2022 world cup on: November 19, 2022, 12:03:55 PM
Well, this is a very good thing to do especially in predictions but indeed when looking at the predictions for Brazil I agree but it's still a little difficult to see France being there Cheesy
In fact, there is nothing wrong, but indeed by looking at the current condition of France, I was actually a little skeptical of France, especially by looking at their matches in the last few trials.
Belgium again  Grin

They were considered as one of best candidates to win World Cup and Euro with this player generation. They failed in previous tournaments and in this World Cup, they will not have best versions of Hazard and Lukaku. How will they be able to win it?

I have more belief in Argentina and Brazil but unfortunately, they won't be able to meet each other in the final match.

The prediction above looks real and it is likely what may play out. The only place I have doubt is Belgium team going to final. Belgium was good in the past when hazard, Lukaku and Kevin were all playing in good form. Itt is only Kevin that is still in good form the other two have lost their form. Although there are other young players in the team that can carry the team along players like Troosard and Tielemans
I don't have good feeling about France and Belgium but in Germany I have it. Belgium will have their last chance (likely) to win a big title with this generation but I guess it is a little bit late for them already. Hazard nowadays even should not appear in their squad. A few seasons in Bernabeu destroys a best of Hazard and it is a myth story if we look back at the past, how amazing he played in Chelsea.

Will we have a final match between Argentina vs Germany or Brazil vs Germany?
1560  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin can be centralised or decentralised on: November 19, 2022, 11:52:41 AM
If Bitcoin is preferably kept in Centralised exchange i think it is no longer decentralised to the owner because the don't have the keys to unlock and spend their coin but rather the rely on this third party intermediaries who decide how much the are eligible to transfer depending on their KYC verification level.
KYC is another issue but the most important factor is "Not your keys, not your coins" with or without KYC, it is always true.

Quote
I believe private keys is what makes every Bitcoin owner decentralised not just the coin itself
Decentralized is a term to mention about Bitcoin network, not a Bitcoin wallet or a Bitcoin owner. With wallet, we have custodial and non-custodial wallets.

Quote
The fear of misplacing seed phrase and private keys is still a big concern to many who believe they are careless with storing and keeping important datas.
If they use a non-custodial wallet to store their Bitcoin, they must know what they are doing, how to do it safely and correctly. They must learn to get knowledge about it and practice makes perfect.
