I think I've got a fair grasp on the basic theory of Bitcoin.
But so far, it appears to me that Bitcoin is only suitable for use where a vendor can wait for payment to validated - tens of minutes - before delivering the goods that were purchased.
So, per my topic title, you couldn't go into Burger King (or your favorite fast food joint or any other meat-space store), whip out your smartphone, shoot some bitcoin at the cash register, and they let you walk out with your burger and fries. Or your grocery store, and they let you walk out with $200 worth of groceries.
Is that correct? Would anyone be interested in discussing a BIP or altcoin that makes that possible?

Do they let you walk out of the store after you've used your credit card? You could go home ring your bank and cancel the transaction. Once you send the Bitcoin the money is as good as received so you don't need to wait for the full confirmations. Retail businesses will use payment processors that will insure against double spending etc anyway so it's a moot point. |

I wouldn't really waste my time with faucets but PD has a decent one where you get 100 satoshis or 1000 if you asked to be whitelisted, but you need to gamble with a bit to cash out. Good fun though. |

Hi,
Do you guys think there is a future in centralised cryptocurrencies? If all or most of the coins are pre-mined by a party you can have some of the advantages regulatory currencies have like managed inflation. This could be used by small companies for example.
I don't think there's any advantages to us in this, although I'm sure there will be corporations or entities that try it, but why we would need or want to use them is another question. |

So I have an English bank account and an Australian bank account but am finding it really quite difficult to buy bitcoins with either currency! What kind of websites are you guys using atm to purchase bitcoins? I'd prefer to avoid avenues whereby I have to wait 5 working days for the transaction to go through or I have to meet people IRL etc.
I'm envisioning this method whereby I put my card details into the website, within moments bitcoins arrive! I dont mind providing documents, getting verified etc!

Is mining bitcoins really dead? I was thinking of mining but then a friend said it was not worth it. Any suggestions?
It's not dead obviously, but it might as well be to beginners. You need to invest a hell of a lot of money to get into the BTC mining game now. You might as well mine a newer alt coin then exchange it for BTC. |

I have been hearing about bitcoins and the such for awhile now, wish I had jumped in when I first heard of them. But anyway missed that bus. A couple of my friends have been talking about trading altcoins on cryptsy, much like trading on the FOREX. I have gone over started an account but it seems like there is not that much info to make good sound judgement calls. From what I am seeing its like playing Hi-Lo with a double deck of cards. I was wondering if anyone would share their strategy for trading altcoins (besides the pump and dump scheme). Is there any real way to accumulate coins from trading?
There is no foolproof way to generate or guarantee profit. You simply have to use your own intuition and play the markets, and you might win on some and lose on others. |

I like coinmap.org and I check it constantly to see new places added, I wonder what crypto should be the next one listed there.
FTC as it's already accepted in a few places, but I think all cryptocoins should be noted on there with the option to only search for a specific currency. |

We're already starting to see Bitcoin ATM's (or whatever the hell you want to call them), so my question is: when will we start seeing vending machines that accept Bitcoins? Or are they already in existence and I've been living under a rock the past few years?
I'm just fascinated by seeing Bitcoins enter the public sphere with things like ATM's. Considering still that most people don't know what the hell Bitcoins are.
Somebody already adapted a drinks vending machine to accept BTC. There is a thread and video of it in action somewhere. This would definitely be a good idea as it's very easy to use fake money in a lot of vending machines. |

I'm an investor of bitcoin and quark, just wanting opinions.
Is joining a litecoin mining pool still a profitable venture? I haven't done ANYA math yet, but wondering about other people's experiences. Is it worth the electricity bill. I'll be using everyday pc equipment, nothing special.
Not at all on an average computer. Best off trying to mine a new crapcoin and then trade it for LTC or BTC etc, but I still wouldn't bother. |

Instant-E.com online wallet is what most people would call a SCAM!
My first experience with mining was an eye opener. I thought keeping your own digital wallet was potentially insecure and looked toward online wallets to store my initial Litecoin mining.
Instant-E.com online wallet was a BAD choice for me to store my LTC. They took my first 0.59 LTC deposit and scammed me!!
Thankfully it was only 0.59 LTC taken!!
Please list sites that have taken you money so that other may not be subject to the same fate.
I wouldn't use any online wallets for alt coins. BTC's Blockchain.info is legit and very safe if you take advantage of all the security features. |

I'm pretty new to all this crypto currency stuff, but I'm wondering one thing. It takes a while before a bitcoin transaction is confirmed. Won't this be *the* problem for becoming used in retail stores for example?
I can't imagin waiting several minutes before my payment for my groceries are confirmed. Any thoughts on this?
Have you actually spent or transferred any Bitcoin? I usually find this question or argument coming from people who haven't. Once they've been sent they're as good as received. Retail shops will use a payment processor that will insure against any problems like this anyway so it's not a problem either way. |

This coin is dead.
If it hadn't been premined by the dev and insta-sold on the 'first day' then maybe it would have had a chance. I have some in my wallet, but I'm just gonna forget about it and tell my friends that I posses it.
Love the attention the coin is getting the crypto community too! I'm a huge KW fan personally and I thought the whole thing was funny

Hi all my first post here.  What opinions do you have on the amount of new coins appearing? Is it a good thing? More competition and dev staff having to keep 'on the ball' or a bad thing in that it makes the whole alt coin arena seem somewhat a joke and rife with scams? (I belive it may well kill the alt coin market) Comments?? Cheers all.. It's a double-edged sword. Personally I think most of these crapcoins are exactly that, but you can make a little cash from them if you get in early and mine them, then trade them for BTC etc. But there's also a lot of naive newbs that are left holding the coins thinking they’re gonna become rich off them in the future, but when the miners and users move on to another coin, the value drops and they're left holding a load of worthless crap. |

Oh, and use a trusted escrow if you do whom will send the money to me and the charity upon completion of the deal . If we can gather enough donations together, I'll gladly arrange for an escrow.
