1721  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / FPGA - 1st Quarter 2012 Summary (BFL vs. Icarus ?) on: February 23, 2012, 10:13:35 PM
So, just to get this right, as I might be a bit 'behind' the times as it were.....
As of February 2012, it seems that we clearly have 2 winning FPGA Designs/Projects that are essentially 'Production' ready and each have quite opposite strengths and merits worth taking note of.

Please correct me if anything below is WRONG.

-------------------------------------
Butterfly Labs BitForce Single
830 MH/s
85W
$600 USD (shipping not included)
**Sexy Software Support (CGMiner etc)
-------------------------------------
$0.72/MegaHash ..or.. 1.38 MegaHash/$Dollar
0.102W/MegaHash ..or.. 9.76 MegaHash/W

.......VS.......

-------------------------------------
ngzhang's "Icarus"
380 MH/s
20W
$570 USD (shipping not included)
**Specific Software (so far) <EDIT> Now with CGMiner 2.3.0 support.
-------------------------------------
$1.50/MegaHash ..or.. 0.67 MegaHash/$Dollar
0.053W/MegaHash ..or.. 19 MegaHash/W

I guess it's almost safe to say that when/IF choosing between the 2 designs/projects above, POWER CONSUMPTION, POWER PRICE and INITIAL INVESTMENT might be what it all comes down to.....(ie. Is your power more expensive over X amount of time, making the option of purchasing a BitForce Single less cost effective than purchasing a pair of Icarus units even though 'out of pocket' is more ?).....

Comparing them at face value....
BitForce = 2x MegaHash/$Dollar
Icarus = 2x MegaHash/Watt

I think for current GPU Miners, the Bitforce is the clear winner....but what about NEW Miners ? Might Icarus keep reoccurring costs down (even though initial is higher) due to ever increasing difficulty and decreasing mining profit ?

Is there anything else on the horizon even worth a mention ?
1722  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Time to play....."Guess that motherboard" on: February 23, 2012, 09:40:55 PM
...not really.

I am hoping someone or some people here can help me. I am desperate.

I am looking for a motherboard that meets the following requirements:
- Intel LGA 1366
- 6 (physical) GPU Support (I need to run 6x 5830's) not just 6 PCIe Slots (I already have a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R 6 slot board that only runs 5 GPUs)
- Windows 7 x64 friendly.
- No Mods, pin 'jump-er-ing' etc.......(although I WILL be running powered PCIe Risers to protect the motherboard).

Does this exist ?

I am willing to go to another socket if I absolutely HAVE to...but would prefer LGA1366.

I would like to purchase a few if possible and further consolidate things around here, less rigs/more cards.....

Thanks in advance,
bitlane.

I don't know what has changed over the last 2 days (nothing on my end) but my speeds are awesome as is connectivity and no 'sick' miners in CGMiner.

Woke up this morning and everything is running 100% at top speeds without a hitch.

Thanks Pirate.

1726  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850 Reference WOES.... on: February 22, 2012, 04:35:09 PM
1 - try not lowering the memclock so much.
2 - what is the wattage draw on the rig as it stands now?
3 - driver and sdk versions?
4 - 920 Mhz gpu clock is pretty damn good for 5850s if you can keep it stable there.  Not sure many 5850s will be stable that high.
5 - dump windows?  Try BAMT?

The cards are running Asus 5870 Reference BIOS's with CAT 12.1 & SDK 2.1. Unfortunately I am stuck using Windows, as I do not want to learn anything new...lol
The low mem clocks yield better mh/s for this setup and have the same effect in terms of 'sick' GPUs even at 300Mhz, so I'll stick with 180Mhz for the increase in speed.
I don't know exactly what the power draw at the plug is, but I can guess it's approx 450W for the 2 cards & Semperon setup....the PSU is 600W 80+ so that shouldn't be an issue.
1727  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850 Reference WOES.... on: February 22, 2012, 04:31:06 PM
Set the memclock to 300 as you may find you hashrate goes up

For me, 180Mhz MEM is 5MH/s faster than running 300Mhz...which is what I used to run till I read a 5850/5870 MEM Clock vs MH/s thread recently and tried lowering it.
180Mhz is definitely my sweet spot.....

this all started with a trip to the hospital that ended with the doctor calling local police. Apparently if you rather not have tubes stuck in your throat your put on suicide watch. Im just so freaking frustrated right now and Im running out of options..

As of today I am still with out my gun permit  Huh

So elaborate a bit more....

Did you threaten to shoot the Doctor or something ?
Your story has WAY too many holes in it and you seemed to have left out the part of the story that tells WHAT YOU DID.....?
1729  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 22, 2012, 01:21:34 AM
The only difference is we have purchases running now, so it maybe an issue with your private pool.

Here's the last 6 hours from that pool after disconnecting and removing GPUMAX from my config....12noon MST to 6pm MST
http://members.shaw.ca/bitlane/6hrs.jpg

...as you can see, there are definitely no issues with that pool Wink
I decided to get a solid 6hrs of data just in case, to see if anything happened during that time, as normally, I would have half a dozen 'sick' miner instances by then.
But after 6 hours, no sick miners....nothing....everything still running without restarts of any kind.

Now that I am connected back to GPUMAX, I will take another screenshot at midnight my time and put them sidebyside to compare...

<EDIT>
I just noticed that I have already racked up 6x more Stales/Rejects in 6 minutes than I did over 6 hours on my other test above....
1730  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 22, 2012, 01:11:29 AM
We have been back on the main system for a while now.  I'm not sure what the issue could be.  My CGMiner connects instantly to our system.

I just reconnected and as you said...it was INSTANT this time.

Did anything of significance change during your testing on your end Pirate ?
1731  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 22, 2012, 12:54:55 AM
Could it be a CGMiner problem?
I sure hope not....as my entire Windows mining Farm depends on it...lol

Actually, the latest CGMiner 2.2.7 helps part of the 'sick' miner problem by keeping them busy and from accessing their 2D clocks most of the time, so it's much better than it was for me using CGMiner 2.2.6 a couple days ago.
1732  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 22, 2012, 12:50:53 AM
Any updates ?
I finally had to move my miners onto my backup pool exclusively, as I was having too many 'sick' miners in CGMiner.

I actually had to remove GPUMAX from my pool list in my config entirely for the time being, as even leaking work to it as a backup pool was causing me problems.

Let me know when everything is back online and I will try to reconnect everything.
bitlane.

Hmm. It's working just fine for me; my miners have been stable with no disconnects for multiple hours. Check your GPUMAX backup pool, maybe it's the issue.

I've been mining using my 'backup pool' which is BTCGuild for the last few 6 hours without a hickup with everything else removed from my config.

Connecting (or trying to) to GPUMAX takes longer than it should in CGMiner (as BTCGuild connects/starts immediately by itself)....it leaves CGMiner at it's starting screen for up to 10+ seconds most times....even when it is the only pool in my BAT file.

I only connect to 2 places. GPUMAX and BTCGuild....and for testing, am leaving out a backup when trying either or, as GPUMAX seems to cause issues with 'sick' miners much of the time and I don't see the issue anywhere else unfortunately.

<EDIT>
I am unable to even load the website/control panel in a timely fashion, so is it safe to assume you are still 'testing' ?
Launching CGMiner 2.2.7 with GPUMAX as my primary pool, causes it to just sit there, almost timing out...

Yeah, you can tell that BS to the next woman being raped, and unable to defend herself with a good old .38

'Fear' and the need to 'Defend yourself'....especially in the USA, stem from much larger Economic and Social problems which should be addressed LONG before allowing MORE people to carry concealed weapons.
1736  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I cant own a gun? No judge no jury. Guilty until proven slave on: February 21, 2012, 09:26:15 PM
No one in the USA should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon of any type - permit or not, without first being subject to IQ screening, or have the weapon based on the level of education that they have.

Considering the level of education that most US residents receive, this should be a no-brainer.

The last thing people should have to fear is some elementary-school educated redneck with a .44 under his jacket.

I am a huge fan of Darwinism, but only when it applies to and within the inner cities (yes, I say let the crack heads kill each other, as long as innocent people do not suffer...much).
When this is allowed to spread into the general public/population, you don't have to be a college professor to understand the ramifications of such.....

Hey Jim, just a quick question if I could.....

I am still using the 'account' field for the 'listtransactions' call as it's common to both SEND & RECEIVE (and obviously makes the array possible with ease), but have come across a small limitation...

(connected to my Solo Mining Wallet/Bitcoind)

I am able to get the label for incoming transactions but not for outgoing.
In the list above, you can see that the 4 last transactions have labels as they are incoming, the first one does not as it is a SEND.....

Instead of using 'listtransactions' and 'account'....is there another function that is common to both send and receive that would allow me to retrieve a label for both ?

I still have the v0.2 code in place, just added to...so that I could display the last 5 transactions....

Code:

<li><?php echo ("TX: ".$trans[9]['category'] . ":<b> " $trans[9]['amount'] ." BTC</b> | ID: <b>".$trans[9]['account'] ."</b>  | Confirms: <b>".$trans[9]['confirmations'] )?></b>
<li><?php echo ("TX: ".$trans[8]['category'] . ":<b> " $trans[8]['amount'] ." BTC</b> | ID: <b>".$trans[8]['account'] ."</b>  | Confirms: <b>".$trans[8]['confirmations'] )?></b>
<li><?php echo ("TX: ".$trans[7]['category'] . ":<b> " $trans[7]['amount'] ." BTC</b> | ID: <b>".$trans[7]['account'] ."</b>  | Confirms: <b>".$trans[7]['confirmations'] )?></b>
<li><?php echo ("TX: ".$trans[6]['category'] . ":<b> " $trans[6]['amount'] ." BTC</b> | ID: <b>".$trans[6]['account'] ."</b>  | Confirms: <b>".$trans[6]['confirmations'] )?></b>
<li><?php echo ("TX: ".$trans[6]['category'] . ":<b> " $trans[5]['amount'] ." BTC</b> | ID: <b>".$trans[5]['account'] ."</b>  | Confirms: <b>".$trans[5]['confirmations'] )?></b>

thanks again for a kick ass script.

2.8GH/s for 2,000 euros ? (approx $2600 USD)
Are you investing in FPGA Miners like Butterfly Labs or 4x 7970's ?
1739  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850 Reference WOES.... on: February 21, 2012, 05:48:54 PM
They have had a chance to 'level off' a bit after the restart and this is what they are doing now....

Code:
GPU 0: 68.5C  3107 RPM  54% Fan | 920 Mhz GPU  1.163 V	180 Mhz MEM | 384.1/383.3 Mh/s |  A:68  R:0  HW:0  U:5.46/m  I: 8
GPU 1: 68.5C  3083 RPM  43% Fan | 920 Mhz GPU  1.163 V 180 Mhz MEM | 383.8/382.6 Mh/s |  A:64  R:0  HW:0  U:5.14/m  I: 8

I am going to try a clean/fresh Windows installation, as I have been using this same disk image for testing most of my cards and perhaps I am falling victim to WindBLOWS left-over registry garbage in some way...
that's all I can think of at this point.
1740  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850 Reference WOES.... on: February 21, 2012, 05:43:38 PM
The cards are all brand new and were purchased as sealed units....

So I just restarted the machine and up'd the clocks on the GPU a bit to help prove my point.....

Code:
GPU 0: 68.0C  3104 RPM  53% Fan | 920 Mhz GPU  1.163 V	180 Mhz MEM | 383.7/381.9 Mh/s | A:28  R:0  HW:0  U:6.66/m  I: 8
GPU 1: 69.0C  2847 RPM  39% Fan | 920 Mhz GPU  1.163 V 180 Mhz MEM | 383.1/382.0 Mh/s | A:20  R:0  HW:0  U:4.76/m  I: 8

The voltage increase is thanks to the 5870 BIOS (1.088V stock 5850 as yours show) and 5870 stock clocks are 850 on the GPU, now running a stable 920 with a small overclock.

The machine is rock solid.....until there is a lapse in work and the cards are able to cycle down and access their 2D clocks @ 150Mhz GPU, as I said, which they RARELY recover from, back up to their assigned 3D clocks.....

I just don't get it.

They will run rock solid till they are given a chance to rest.
