2121  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 11, 2014, 10:31:15 AM

I'm somewhat neutral here. I see the point of the PROGRAMMERS who say that Tristan should shut it down pending a rewrite and audit. I see the point of the customers who want it to stay up. And I see the point of Tristan trying to keep his business afloat after a major fuckup. It seems that the majority of his customers are ok with how he's handling it, despite the flaws, because he's been up front and honest about it.

That goes a long way in my book, too. But I must defer to the programmers and experts as well, because I am not one and do want a secure exchange. But yelling at each other isn't going to change or help anything, nor does it add to the conversation.

I think he should compromise. Give everyone a couple of days to withdraw, after suspending trading and deposits, and recode the thing. Then issue shares to help defray the costs of the rewrite, pay back everyone who was harmed in the hack and his solution, and reopen with a new and more secure platform. That way everybody wins in the medium to long term. Oh, and mount an external audit or two, just to be sure. He seems to have the good will of the community, so I do not think the above would harm his long term business prospects. On the contrary, it just might secure them.

+1
Simple and obvious really. Majority of users are OK with that, it seems.

There will be plenty more sellers in the days ahead, because there is mined supply..  The price is dictated by the buyers as well, it is a two way discovery.

There are always potential buyers who are watching the progress of the technicals and community. They will respond to what they see.
I think 6sat is not an unreasonable price (not too cheap) for the coin at this stage. It is unproven as yet, 95% potential and 5% implementation.
2123  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 11, 2014, 01:56:34 AM
I really have to say I don't find any problem with functions, withdrawal and deposit working OK.
2124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CASH] Crypto CASH a unique Crypto currency! **1.1 Client is mandatory** on: March 10, 2014, 08:59:31 PM
No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think even the wallets need an upgrade to clear the checkpoint error. Only the checkpoint server.

We don't have access to the checkpoint server though, we therefore need to change it and therefore we need to point the wallets to the new server.

OK, I see.
2125  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 10, 2014, 08:54:22 PM
What I would ask the manager of Poloniex (Tristan) in a positive way, is , Do you honestly think it might be desirable for the exchange code to be rewritten in a new framework ?

Future security is important for the confidence of everyone involved.

Well i'd chip in to hire someone to hard fork if we are going to take it over.

Would this be the first altcoin to ever be taken over by the community?

Hey Chris
Do you know if we'll need a hard fork? I'm really not sure if we will, it's only the checkpoint server we need to change afaik and I hope that just needs the wallets to be updated for which a few us would like to update anyway (need to include the conf and hopefully install it automatically).

I don't follow many coins, I prefer to pick a few decent ones and work them (a few so not all eggs are in one basket), but community coins do seem to be rare which is a shame, I think it's how it should be. They're not very decentralised if only a hand full of folks control it and if they disappear, everyone else is screwed.

No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think even the wallets need an upgrade to clear the checkpoint error. Only the checkpoint server.

All coins are taken over by the community at some time. They are not always the property of the original developer. If anyone here has the skills to do it, please declare themselves.

A hard fork is only needed if some aspect of the code or function is a serious problem.
2128  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 10, 2014, 08:41:49 PM
loss/theft was due to the exchanges incompetence,  this is not the customers fault.  If the theft was only 50k and this guy running an exchange cant pay 50k back, then he is a liar and has no business running this company.

I mean when the exchange is doing good,  he is not sharing those profits with his customers.  By the same token if his exchange is having problems then he shouldn't make the customers pay for it in any way.

People should show a little more anger, instead of thanking the guy for his incompetence

When you have a bit of experience in this business, you might show a little humility.

You are a whingeing negative force.. that is more annoying IMO. Better to pull together and trust people's motives until really proven otherwise.

is ECC equipped with Kimoto Gravity Well / KGW?

No, KMG is not needed because the difficulty retargets with every block.

I have been repaid the first small instalment of the 12% BTC 'lost' .

The exchange has behaved properly and openly as far as I can see.

So,
What's going on?
The price is dropping! I don't really understand if it's a big dump or other.

What do you think?

It's sad to see the price falling continuously.   The week view isn't pretty.  While on the other hand the difficulty continues to rise.

This tells me two things.  We have two groups, the onces who want to sell off now before they feel it's going to fall even more, cut their losses as such.  And the other group who believe in Dark Coin, who are finding this coin and mining it hard to get as much as they can before the price (hopefully) sky rockets, along with the difficulty.

You have to factor one thing: There are people who bought tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands when DRK was at 0.0000xx and 0.000x price ranges. These people are not "cutting any losses" selling at 0.00x. They are simply locking (major) profits.

Regarding miners etc, as the difficulty rises (and it is already quite high) the equilibrium of mining DRK to sell for profit changes. This means that instead of mining/selling/locking daily profit, miners will shift and instead other coins will be mined/dumped. Those who believe in DRK will mine and hold and those who believe (but do not mine DRK) will buy DRK with the profits of mining something else. This will reduce the coins profitability but in turn, paradoxically, help the price.

As for the "falling continuously", it's not an isolated incident that affects DRK per se. Check other alt coins and their graphs. But, at the same time, coinmarketcap position is relatively stable (we may pass worldcoin actually - it's getting closer).

+1

Price is actually quite stable relative to other Cryptos.

Support programs like paper wallets, phone apps that are secure (unlike Bitcoin at the moment), and as much point of sale as we can get increase value. Scarcity doesn't make value as much as support does however 42 coin is extremely expensive compared to Bitcoin because of scarcity.

Before everyone gets on me about how Bitcoin isn't secure on a phone. I based that on news stories I read on the internet. My opinion is if you want to loose Bitcoin just put it on a cell phone.

There is already a good paperwallet... try it !

This is another great idea: It will take a little time to catch on ..Remember there is huge competition in the Alt. currency world right now.

ECC   is the ECO Coin .

I think this strapline is absolutely reflective of the ethos of ECC, and would do amazing things for promotion. I would advise the dev/promoter of this thread to associate the abbreviation ECO asap.
In the very beginning i had a such idea. but when searched online i found out another crypto https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=269312.0
I checked he was not death so we come to solution ECC because we could not name it :-) You will name it!

I need you guys team together & add some power to this new crypto. It deserve to be supported only for new vision and mission brought to the market. There are new lands un-explored fro cryptoes. ECC is going to be the key for them.

Yes.. PoS is the obvious choice for an Environmentally friendly coin. Do you have devs with wide PoS experience ?  If the wallet function is good, that is half the battle won.

2137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Q2C] QubitCoin new secure hashing (CPU/GPU) (NEW) Update 0.8.4.1 on: March 10, 2014, 12:11:17 AM
Okay guys, I'm here with another good news!

I've talked to MintPal-Jay (an admin of MintPal) about the incidents today. Thanks again for the friendly conversation.

The results were:
  • He doesn't blame the whole Q2C community for the things happened. He thinks that the botter is somebody that has no special relation to Q2C, USD-e or KDC.
  • The voting system has been / will be changed so that only registered users are allowed to vote. This will prevent botting.
  • Q2C will be unbanned and gets most of its votes back. Of course, the botted votes will not be counted.
  • The donated votes (about 0.08 BTC in total) will still count after the unban. There is NO loss.
.
My faith in MintPal is fully restored and I want to thank them for the very well handling of the incidents.
Today was a very exciting day, but we all should calm down now and support Q2C again when we are listed on MintPals voting list (in a fair way, ofc). Additionally we should apologize for some bad words that have fallen against MintPal and other coin communities (especially USD-e and KDC).

So, what should we have learned from today?
We should not fight each other. We are neither opponents, nor rivals. Fighting leads only to negative moods and bad words lead to negative reputation. We are cryptocurrency communities, all sitting in the same boat. The only way to master hard times like today is to work together and keep calm.

PS.: Sorry for my bad english, I'm not a native speaker.  Tongue

Good news, good work, and excellent advice !

placebo I agree with you,but you came to our topic and you are promoting klondike and also few other member of kdc community. Which is too suspicious and it is normal that we will think that you have sent trolls and trying to stop us from getting on mintpal with those bots story. Anyway ikom is right, mintpal would already ban us if someone from our community use bots. It would be my pleasure to pump those votes for Qubit with few btc ,but unlucky I dont have them enough.
People are checking other coin threads often, i'm also checking USDe, Dope, Polishcoin, name it. I've asked the person to remove his comments and i believe he did. As i said it is not good for any of the coins to have this kind of stupid fighting. It is better to work together and try to combine forces, give our community, miners, investors more options and allow us to grow all and not start destroying each other.

Like Qubitcoin can have some interesting tools that Klondike coin doesn't have and the other way around. Adding a coin as extra payment method doesn't cost you anything. In the world you have more then $ alone, you have a lot of currencies, so in altcoin world you can also have a lot of currencies that can make it.

Ofcourse, it is just a matter of time when kdc or q2c will be added on mintpal. We need to promote coins as much as we can and we don't need these kind of promotion and scandals. Anyway good luck.

Q2C will be added to other exchanges as well. Mintpal will get in line when the profit is there.

There are plenty of projects for the Q2C community to get on with... The coin has great genetics and will steadily gain support. Best to concentrate on recruiting developers and marketing people.

Why do you need the dev right now? Everything seems to work just fine...

Working fine, yes...Dev needs to be seen to be active daily. Especially to recruit new developers.

There will always be unforseen issues , and they need to be addressed immediately they crop up. This is about growth in the coin and its network..

If the active dev. posted daily here, that on its own would be good for a 50% increase in the price.

My wallet  does not want to syncronize, is that ok?

Then you cannot do anything with your coin, I guess

I know, but why it doesn't syncronising? Maybe you know?

I don't know. . You may be on a chain without any network.  How many connections does it show ?
