My wallet stat:

Block chain

Current number of blocks   421745
Estimated total blocks       420685

I had similar. Staking is completely broken in that condition. Seems to have been a problem node ??

I am resynching from scratch, using the current .conf file from the OP.

421750 ish is the correct current blockchain

I am not sure what happens but it also happens in my desktop at start up.
I guess you host too many crypto coins on that server. It's maybe relate to operating system performance issue, open page limit or thread limit etc. so it bogged somehow.
Server CPU usage is about 90% idle overall (quad-core) with most of the usage being SuperCoind using 25% of one core, 2 GB of RAM are unused, plenty of bandwidth remaining (only using about 50 kBits/s according to nload).

However debug log lists a lot of getblocks requests and a regular stream of orphans, I suspect at least some of the surrounding nodes are stuck on a fork.

edit: CPU usage back to 100% of one core :/ (no worry, just annoying, I always oversize the wallet servers)
I sent you with PM some alive nodes you can try resync with them.

I have similar problems. My sendings have not arrived, and the last sync I tried was a disaster.

Are the nodes + .conf file in the OP correct , before I resync from scratch ?
1323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 28, 2014, 12:32:02 PM
Exactly. What coins do you regard as having it?
I don't have specific coins right now; I think there are three very important factors that will lead coins to success: decentralization, anonymity, and sustainability.

Currently AFAIK no coin is successfully doing all three, and I'm not sure neither if they will be enough, nor if they are actually achievable or maybe mutually-exclusive, nor if they are all necessary.

But that's what I watch for.

There is a chance that the winner comes from left field, with a combination of elements which cannot yet be predicted. ... or it could be an existing coin, currently ignored because it's genetics are 'too silly' or considered impossible for success (until changing conditions make it the top survivor) .. Just like real life evolution.

I hold about 70 different, including many which would be instantly dismissed out-of-hand by serious analysts. Being involved in the discussion and watching development really helps in understanding how success happens: it doesn't always submit to rational analysis.

only one criticism you should have left out the top 1000 addresses for BTC, there is no point in giving the rich more money and you know that many exchanges won't go through the trouble of distributing out to their users

Cannot see that it really matters in the grand scheme of things. A number of allocations will be unclaimed anyway.

if you have lets say DOGE or PTS in Cryptsy how do you claim stake in LTS ?
you have to move them out of cryptsy ? or is there a way to claim and still keep them in Cryptsy ?

for all coins the process of claiming is the same ?
but for some we can't claim yet ?
am I right ?

1. Coins in an exchange cannot be claimed by individuals (claim needs a private key to the one address), only once by the exchange address.

2. Each ADDRESS containing coins as of 22 May 2014 has an allocation. Just that date.

3. All can be claimed right now, but they do not vest until maturity (randomly allocated to need a certain number of confirmations) until then they show as 'unconfirmed' in the wallet. Everything vests and completes by Sept 2015.

Any future plans of what your working on with this?  Posting some plans on what's being worked on may help from people dumping.

Yes, this might not sound very exciting but my priorities at the moment are to

1. Monitor and ensure stability of blockchain and checkpointing

2. Encourage more DOGE holders to claim their LTS and participate - this should broaden, deepen and stabilize the market for LTS.

3. Look at options to transition to a more decentralized RNG/checkpointing method.

If you'd like to help - we can use a lot of help with point 2 - let Shibes know that they can claim upwards of $20 worth of LTS right away.

Solid points. All the better for having no frothy marketing fantasy.

Posts in forums , I would guess, are the best way to encourage DOGE beneficiaries. If enough posters become aware, they will create their own movement.

The LTS distribution model is great, slow burn adoption , giving time for proper consideration.

Until then, let them dump. I am waiting to buy.

The first problem with this coin is the name. I stumbled of a reference to the tech, with no link, and when I googled it I was led to a seemingly defunct scamcoin. It would appear that there are Two Supercoins, or this is a relaunch of another Supercoin, but the confusion doesn't generate any confidence. And then to add to the confusion there seems to be a Mammothcoin with a much lower value using the same tech.
This might irrelevant to the community but if you want to expand you need to improve your google profile and clarify matters for outsiders. Just a small point, but a clear statement of the coin's Unique Identifier (Super) would help. I tried in vain to find it on the first page of this announcement. At least with That information confirmed, I'd know that I was looking at the right supercoin on the exchanges. And if Super and Mamm are hand-in-glove then some explanation of the price differential would be helpful.

And yes I am making efforts to answer these questions for myself, but how many pass on by because they skim over and see super=scam?

Good point. The crypto world is very sensitive: the tiniest whiff of trouble and they run/steer clear. Most experienced traders have been burnt.

i lost a lot of money in QRK Embarrassed
what were your real investments in Quark? how many services/products you bought/sold/got involved with Quark ?

OR you only bought QRK as a currency and you hoped it was going to appreciate in value? then you sold at a loss? you tried to be a trader and failed, thats what you're complaining about ?

Traders generally lose money (around 99% of them). I had a whole career in the financial industry, and saw it from the inside.

In a secular rising market (like altcoins) it is easy for a trader to believe they have the right skills.
1330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | cPoW | PC mining | Stability | Hashcows - QRK Payouts on: August 27, 2014, 11:15:17 AM

The Max confusion is understandable, because Max Keiser was involved in Nov/Dec, only because Bill Still had a spot on his show, and QRK was mentioned a few times.

In August 2013, I had even more QRK (at that time I had a habit of acquiring a few % stake in all the new coins I fancied, there are of course too many to do that now) but I too sold most of it. I guess Bill Still or his backers were buying up the QRK market at the beginning of November.

You will realise that a lot of the long-time bitterness and trolling etc stemmed from the holders who sold out at tiny prices. This is the sort of thing that I have experienced in many altcoins, and I know you understand the history of some.

Max Guevarra was the lead developer: I guess he tries to keep his head below the parapet nowadays.

I initially had the same theory last year, and had at one point bought about 2-3% of most of the 3 dozen alts on Cryptsy but sold them all and bought only IXC.  It was still a good move but I would have made way more short term on MEC and especially Quark.

It's not too late but like you said, it's much harder now given there's hundreds of alts.

Thanks for the explanation - I'm gonna try to buy a little quark and also a few dozen other way oversold alts which right now are ridiculously cheap, many at 1/100th of 1 penny ($.0001).  That's just too good to pass up.

Cheers!

I don't necessarily buy 'cheap', but am more interested in truly novel ideas....eg Lottoshares (slow burn distribution to 1m people), Monero (Cryptonote ring signatures), Supercoin (trustless anon sending with feeshare), Librex (Android PoS)  etc.. Also, I try to get involved with the infrastructure and daily effort (that often means writing and promotion): the interraction helps with
understanding the quality of the community and dev.

Really looking for something that catches on bigtime (ie invest 5BTC for 100BTC return: a market cap can go x20 from any level at all, really). Needs a decent dev team and promotion as well, but I find that is mostly priced-in already. Accepting mostly total losses is just the price paid for that strategy.

Yes, 31m bought at 1 satoshi.

Who is this Max you guys keep talking about?  At first I thought you were talking about Max Keiser.  lol.

And what is his function?  By the sounds of it he is the lead dev, is this correct?

Sorry, there's a lot of confusion on this thread right now.  Like I said, I used to have 2 million Quark but sold it all at 200 Satoshi and now I have less than 20,000 Quarks.

Thank you!

@silvermetal, You were here at the beginning, right ? Why wasn't the logo with "the elementary currency" adopted instead of `money reinvented` ? You took a vote or ? Its just that the latter fits more for Bitcoin because Bitcoin reinvented how we see and use money, while Quark creator transformed it into a day-to-day currency by adding security, speed, zero fees, etc therefore `the elementary currency` would have fitted much better IMHO.

There was no tagline in the first months...Later there was a poll on the forum : we set up the forum in November 2013... I favored 'Money built by the people', here is the link to the poll. December 2013. I don't recall a formal adoption of Money Reinvented.

I do not understand how the Wallet/Account/Registration system works. I have spent some time on the forum, and been trying to register an account for 8 days.

Can anyone point me to a complete explanation of BTSX and how the client software operates ?

I haven't checked here in a while, my God what has happened to this thread. Nothing but insults, intrigue, and people putting their faith in snake oil salesmen.

Is there anything in terms of product development still going on?

That is the way of nearly all coins. It is a well trodden path, and there is no escape unless development and innovation is continuous.

It happens much more quickly with younger coins (QRK is an 'old' coin, and took some time to get to this state), and a price decline is often the trigger. Possibly there will be a new initiative from some talented developers, but I don't see it yet.

Cooperation between communities is the future (probably merge-mining the same hashes).

If you are using "bitcointalk" as your main source of sediment, you are not well diversified.,

Diversification is my middle name.

There sure is plenty of sediment on Bitcointalk.

1337  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [VIA] ★ Viacoin ★ ~ the future of digital currency ~ ★ on: August 24, 2014, 12:41:12 AM
This weak hand phrase is overused.

People exit the coin based on rational judgements.

Yes, Pros exit all the time...
Because new trading opportunities come along constantly.

For a Pro Trader...
The hardest thing to learn is when to take a painful loss... and just move on.

Any idiot can buy and hold and crow about their profits...
And continue holding like a deer in the headlights thru a Death Spiral to zero...
But having the balls to cut your losses (not ave down, get the hell out)...
Separates the 2% winners from the 98% losers... and all Zero Sum Games have roughly 2% winners.

The "weak hand phrase" essentially justifies amateur trading psychology...
In a ruthless market where 90% of the coins are effectively going to zero within 12-24 months.

Though none of this applies to VIA at this time.

More likely 99% of coins are going to -99% in 24 months. There will be new ones coming along all the time, and it would be unrealistic to expect more than a handful of long term big winners.

My own thought is that there will be a long phase of consolidation, where talented developers and community slowly join forces or migrate to winning currencies. This will be very slow, as loyalties are strong (if misplaced), but it is inevitable eventually, and I see the very beginnings of the process already.
1338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | cPoW | PC mining | Stability | Hashcows - QRK Payouts on: August 22, 2014, 09:06:12 AM

Well, one good thing about this coin is that it has been massively consolidated.

No more PoW means no new coins being added, no more inflation.

And the fact the price has dropped means many more people, and existing whales, have bought up most existing supplies.  This means Quark is prepped for a massive spike when demand increases.

The large holders here just need to be smart and not start dumping right away and when you do don't put massive blocks out there which will scare away new investors.

Quark hit $.24 last time so I think it can hit $2 this time.  For me that means a nice vacation.  For others, if you're patient, it means a new house or a new lambo.  lol.

Cheers!

QRK is maybe a good test of that theory.

Either the lack of inflation supports the price, or it ensures the stagnation, with no new buyers because existing holders are keeping it all.

Demand is the key variable, and only time will tell.

1340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CASH] Crypto CASH | Proof of Stake & COIN CONTROL | On Cryptsy | 0 PREMINE on: August 21, 2014, 12:08:11 PM

I strongly disagree, and have stated my argument many times, but I don't think my points are acknowledged.

Any coin which reduces its supply before it has critical mass of adoption is consigning itself to a steady decline (freeze to death). The small community holds all its own supply, and fresh blood (buyers) are not interested (because they see no gain).

That critical mass is 100s of times where Cash currently stands. The best way to widen adoption is to spread coins around at a low price.

Is that why I'm seeing coins which had a PoW distribution scheme of mere days trading at over 100 times the value of CASH?

How many more months and millions in dilution and inflation before we can expect this magical spreading coins around technique to all of a sudden increase the coin's value?  Haha.

So I wonder why the dollar isn't going up in value since they're printing more and more of it and spreading it around more than ever.  Or why ShitCoins with billions of coins which have been spread around for years are trading at tiny fractions of a penny.

Hahaaa.

The value of any currency is simple, here's the formula:  Transactions Volume/Velocity + 1/Supply.

Do you see the supply on the bottom of the equation, if you raise that number the value drops, if you lower that then the value goes up.  Very simple basic math, so until you can increase the number of transactions [or decrease the velocity] the best thing you can do is decrease supply.

People have known for months we were gonna cut the supply and the price has been at a cheap 200 satoshi most of that time.

Time is up!

USD does not have a limited supply, so it's a different case. Demand as a variable has orders of magnitude more effect on price than does supply.

Altcoins are in a very early stage of distribution, and therefore need incentives for new buyers above all else.

Anyway, it's just my opinion, and I am prepared to follow it with my money (and have done so satisfactorily for the last 18 months). If I am wrong, I can live with that .

I am prepared to change my view in the light of good evidence, but haven't seen anything to the contrary yet.

I always follow your opinion and progress with interest.
