2121  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu | Largest Bitcoin Poker Site | No Banking | Fast Cashouts on: August 21, 2014, 11:34:38 PM
The withdrawal has still not gone through. I contacted support last Sunday and got this response:

4 days after receiving this email and the withdrawal has still not gone through. Support is now not responding to emails.

ST6 says the withdraw went out yesterday.

In rather sad news, multiple users are reporting Coinbase account suspensions due to gambling activity:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2e2yxr/beware_coinbase_is_banning_accounts_that_play_on/

http://www.reddit.com/r/poker/comments/2dxuqw/be_careful_seals_users_coinbase_has_blocked_me/

so with that known, I'm no longer recommending Coinbase as an exchange and would encourage others to use extreme caution.

This must have just started as I cashed out from seals>coinbase>fiat about a month ago.  I see on reddit that somebody mentioned btc>Monero>btc then to anywhere.

Micon, cut out the middle man and switch from btc to Monero.  Enough of this public btc blockchain.
2122  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 18, 2014, 02:19:46 AM
The recent low seems to be the fallback price of the miners. I doubt we will go lower than that as many miners must be mining at a loss already - with even more and more hashing power coming online shrinking their income.

Centralized mining of a decentralized currency Huh and much with discounted electricity Lips sealed
2123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: do bitcoin ATMs really suck this much? on: August 18, 2014, 02:03:53 AM
My local ATM does not scan my hand or ask for any government ID.  I strongly suspect, however, that they do take photos.

There was a riot in my area some years ago and the police used sophisticated software to match people in the riot photographs with accounts on Facebook, in order to identify and arrest people.  If the ATM is storing images of its' users then the Police or the Government can cross compare that information with Facebook to find out who is a crypto currency user and/or has not paid their capital gains' tax.

Some people never put a photo on facebook bro....

And some people don't have a facebook account or anything like it.  google me and you will find nothing.

For bank KYC they basically ask if you're a terrorist and I don't think they ever received the answer yes Grin  When they asked about my job I said unemployed.  Yes a bank knows your name, address, dl and ss# but it's been that way for a very long time.

Just buy your ATM btc on Halloween Grin Grin
2124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 18, 2014, 01:51:07 AM

That's an education thing that we'll have to battle through - getting people to understand that there's no central money control or anything. However, I think the conversation is going to be a lot easier.

"You just create a new account, which is completely secure and free, and you can create as many different accounts as you need for you, your wife, your business, whatever. And the great thing is that there's no government or company that controls your money, just like with Bitcoin, so you are in control of your money."

fulffypony: While I generally agree with the use of 'account' replacing 'wallet', I'd like to offer a suggestion to the team's consideration:

Wallet -> Account
Address -> Account Number (or Account ID, or something in those lines)

For people unfamiliar with crypto currencies in general, the function/meaning of "address" finds it's obvious counterpart in the traditional monetary systems, in the expression "account number" (unless there's some other expression that eludes me). I think this particular understanding is vital in making the shift to "account" successful.

This would be a brief, yet sensible description, that integrates both terms:
Creating an account in the P2P Monero network, is the process of generating a Monero account number, under the control of an individual's private key (or seed?).

PS1: I think that there's some conflating the everyday use of 'wallet' as the "location/resource/data that holds funds for an individual", and the use of 'wallet' as the "piece of software that an individual uses to manage/operate on his funds". Is there a name yet for the new GUI, the upcoming Monero Client? (/hint /suggestion)

PS2: I struggled to express my thoughts concerning the terminology, hope this makes enough sense to spark some discussion, or perhaps feedback from any of the (many) brighter minds in this community.

And now that you've doomed my "monujo.com" domain worthless, I'll let it go for 3 Moneros, any takers? 2 Moneros? 1 Monero? Hell No!
Cheers,
~ Myagui

I just reread the recent posts about wallet vs account and didn't see possible terminology for addresses mentioned.  Did I miss it?

One thing that I have seen confuse people with using btc is, what exactly is a private key and what do they do with it?  Public keys being addresses/accounts seem straight forward to them.
2125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 17, 2014, 07:35:40 PM
Agree 100%. Design for grandma, and all will be well.

Really nice job overall with the product direction.

One question about the database work. Wasn't that supposed to have started about two months ago? Any progress?

The thing about that slight downside is that the target audience ("ordinary" users) don't care about decentralisation, as long as it works and they have a vague idea that the government can't swipe their funds. After all, it's the same people who regularly sell their soul to Zuckerberg in exchange for another round of Farmville:-P

I don't know if this is what you were looking for.

Monero Missives

August 10th, 2014

Hello, and welcome to our tenth Monero Missive!

This Missive was meant to go out on August 10th, but due to a little miscommunication and all the excitement with the new GUI, it went out quite a bit later. Please accept our apologies for the delay in bringing this to you!

Dev Diary

Blockchain: tewinget is starting to bring the abstracted BlockchainDB functions together, as discussed in the Fireside Chat. You can continue to follow his work on his branch: https://github.com/tewinget/bitmonero/tree/bc2

It was discussed in the Fireside Chat.  I watched the whole thing even though I haven't a clue.

Monero Missives

August 16th, 2014

Hello, and welcome to our eleventh Monero Missive!

Dev Diary

Blockchain: tewinget's abstraction and refactoring of the blockchain functions is coming to a head, and we are hoping to start some specific integrations for performance testing so that an embedded database can be decided on and fixed.

2126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many backup copies have you for the wallet ? on: August 17, 2014, 07:18:41 PM
Can a USB fail?

I use the Electrum wallet so my backup is a 12 word seed.  Actually seeds as I have multiple wallets.

2 copies are with people who I can trust my life with.  I have access to one of the sd boxes.  This also means if when I die my btc lives on.

1 copy is in a wall in my house.

You got me thinking.  I need to bury one at my summer home.
2127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 17, 2014, 06:47:33 PM
^^Why when we have Monero?

I haven't checked it closely but Brilliantrocket says zerocash isn't trustless and if so then again, why?
2128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tomorrow a BTC-Funded payload will go to the Stratosphere. on: August 17, 2014, 05:20:17 AM
Heh, this'll be good press.

It'll be interesting to see what the world will think.

If you guys want real press you should send a person up there.  Maybe a company such as Coinbase would be a sponsor.

Elon Musk owns SpaceX and Tesla Motors.  You can buy his cars with btc.

My comments are not meant to belittle what was done.  I'm also looking forward to the coverage of this.  It pays to be proactive as far as contacting media outlets and to have something prepared when you do.  Needing to do less work is an incentive for them to run a story.
2129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 17, 2014, 04:49:19 AM
a new hampshire political candidate wants to accept btc for state taxes and fees.  if i lived in nh i would talk to him about xmr.

.. Do you know who?

andrew hemmingway, republican gubernatorial candidate.  20% of his campaign donations were bitcoin.

donate xmr, people!

Aminorex, isn't it true that the new hamsphire political candidate has a reputable signifity over his constinuating repeccesors? It doesn't make sense that he should suffer through deleterium over the constant herbellings that perugue his identity...Does it?

The difference is that no clarity is forthcoming when I right click your words.

2130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 17, 2014, 02:49:32 AM
I would think they are more creative than that.
2131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 17, 2014, 01:26:07 AM
cAPSLOCK, that was my first thought and then I read this.....

"But fear not, within the next week or two we are going to have a way you can donate to the ongoing development of Monero whilst still getting something directly."
2132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos on Bitcoin | Maker Faire 2014 on: August 17, 2014, 01:16:15 AM
Thanks op as well as others that provided links.  I'm in the process of introducing some people of means and small influence to btc.  I have already used Andreas's "crash course" video mentioned by hylnur.
2133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: do bitcoin ATMs really suck this much? on: August 17, 2014, 01:03:20 AM
15 min video?  I didn't watch it all but scanned thru it which included buying tacos with the purchased btc

The following is a follow up post on the video, no I didn't read it but somebody might be interested.

http://www.tested.com/tech/concepts/460601-where-we-went-wrong-buying-bitcoin-atm/

So how do other btc ATMs work and how should they?
2134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 17, 2014, 12:49:56 AM
Buying XMR under 3 mBTC is like buying BTC under $500. It's just a good price and it won't last long.

Buy buy buy

I did and now I feel I must stop as my XMR:BTC ratio is quite high

Mr obvious.  We are no longer going down at the Moment.  We are down $60 from the stable level btc was at when the downturn started.

Welcome to all the manic depressives.

2137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 16, 2014, 03:24:36 AM
I was wrong again when I said I was finished buying.  I just sent some btc to Poloniex but it will take a few hours to get there.  This usually results in a wall being placed above the current bids. Tongue

That is the limits of my speculation.

This user is currently ignored.

2140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Bitcoin Client do you use and why ? on: August 15, 2014, 09:11:50 PM
Any of you using coinbase vault for a small portion of your holdings?

I received info from them about it but didn't bother checking it out for 2 reasons.
1) I rarely keep much there for any period of time.
2) I be idiot and I rely on others to evaluate things.

As I be idiot I use Electrum because it is fairly idiot proof.  No backups needed of anything and if my computer falls in a vat of acid, no problem.  Also it's easy to have multiple wallets.
