2441  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: December 25, 2018, 01:42:12 PM
It's a christmas miracle.

A hardware manufacturer speculates a product and it actually get developed and delivered, or at least a machine was sent out for a 3rd party review.

Can't celebrate to much as Canaan tends to meet or exceed expectations while also delivering on almost everything they have speculated on.

I really like this machine actually. I wonder if there is a setting or if playing around with the voltage configurations can get it closer to the advertised specs, if so I could run 3 of these in place of my 4 741's.

That would be about a 13TH/S increase with ~200W power savings. The price would be a huge factor though considering I already have the 741's and a rough enclosure for them.
2442  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AvalonMiner 921 released - 20 TH/s @ 1800W on: December 25, 2018, 01:32:20 PM
Hey there,

I'm guessing you mean TH/S otherwise that is abysmal.

You may want to check out this thread by Philipma1957.

He just got one and has been playing around with different settings to acheive an optimal hashrate. There has also been some good info peppered in there by frodocooper about the firmware releases.

Good luck

2444  Other / Meta / Re: Merry Christmas to the Forum on: December 25, 2018, 02:35:52 AM
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, or great Tuesday to all, depending on your preferences.

Like many nights I spend here this one will be due to my wage slave nature. Hey in my line of work someone's gotta do it and I know my years of celebrating at home will come in turn. I'm sure there are others here in the same boat. My favorite part is the kiddos are so young they still believe I might see old St. Nick if I sit on the rooftop at work and keep an eye out.

To all my BTCTalkers thanks for another great year of cyber community. It's especially noticeable this time of year as there are some members who go out of there way and their pockets to run Christmas time raffles and giveaways. I didn't win anything this year but it's great to see the spirit of spreading a little happiness out there.

I read some talk of Lambo's on PG1, stupid me I forgot to fill out my KYC to receive lol.

Thanks for taking the time to keep us in the loop.

Enjoy the trip, and happy holidays.

The latter applies to all.
2446  Other / Meta / Re: Let us devise a Sensible solution to Copy and Paste situation. on: December 21, 2018, 04:50:56 PM
I wasn't trying to stifle any free speech.
I don't see a point though of turning this thread into pages of people who just say " all plagiarist get insta perm ban" because it makes the conversation for others trying to think up another system much harder.
Understood. I just felt it needed saying as that point of view is important to still have present for this discussion to move forward. To effectively overhaul and implement any major change those opinions serve to show what the new system has to overcome in opposition; or at least appease for support.

Quote
Can you point me to the ones that got banned you would give another chance to? I didn't think I missed any hero or legends out because originally I was thinking of a max 1.1000 ratio .... but the reviews and closer scrutiny especially for those with 1000's of posts is a lot to review. This system is quick and fast and could introduce tomorrow.

I honestly never tracked them or gave it much more than a passing thought. The one that I thought had been brought back was ChibitCTY, I actually thought they had been unbanned that's how little I followed it. It was only recently I went back to review.

After going over it again that case falls outside of where I stood on drawing the line. I have since adjusted my thoughts on that case, only in terms of the punitive measures. The original story is gone, but the recent explanation states it was done specifically to fulfill requirements for a SIG, does lean towards out of duty to the manager, but that's not the point.

In this case I feel enough members came out to vouch and show that at least in a certain segment of the community they were an absolute net positive. For that I would bring them back, with a permanent paid SIG ban.

I may not have been super clear in my monitoring idea. It essentially would be a board like the ModLog, where the list of unbanned users would be displayed. Anyone and everyone could access this list and if they chose can review posts of these users for further infractions. I don't expect this list to be very long, as there are not many users that would win their appeal. I don't know who we would allow to be the jury so to speak, maybe a pool of members chosen at random, much like a possible idea floated by theymos in regards to the trust system.

All in all I would stray entirely away from a monetizing this appeals process, but would be in favor of long term or permanent signature bans, as well as my previously mentioned advertising or [ANN] creation for monetary gain.

Cutting down on appeals isn't really necessary. It's a tool that works out, generally within a few minutes someone has explained to the fake ignorant exactly what they did wrong and someone follows up with 3 more examples immediately after they say it was the first time. This seems to be the trend of most appeals anyways. Then people just have to stop feeding the thread with replies. Instead we could overhaul the ban message that then states "this was plagiarism these are the posts and the source you stole from" then as part of the appeal process have them put the full message in their appeal.

Moderators could simply apply their discretion in the handful of cases that deserve that. I know there is the concern of setting a precedent

I learned from the ChiBitCTY thread that there was a precedent set in the past, in regards to LoanShark I beleive. I really don't know anything beyond that not everyone agreed, and that they had been unbanned. Since it came up in a plagiarism thread I assumed the ban was related to this.
2447  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will btc difficulty go sideways for rest of the year? on: December 20, 2018, 11:45:21 PM
Queue massive price run up, followed by 14 EH online, Diff adjustment before the ball drops lol.

I really don't want to see any of those things. Slow and steady would be nice for the foreseeable.
2448  Other / Meta / Re: Let us devise a Sensible solution to Copy and Paste situation. on: December 20, 2018, 10:49:57 PM
-snip-
I said reply if you have a better idea than the current system.

If you do not want to change how it is now then don't reply here I am asking for ideas to improve the situation.

If you have no alternatives and dont want change from how it is dont post.

-snip-

Now both do not post again unless
-snip-

If you have no interest in change at all from insta perm ban for all that is fine but no need to post here.

Sorry but you do not get to dictate the free expression of ideas/ideals which contradict your own. If you are interested in a sanitized echo chamber make use of the self-moderated thread. Yes you a very interested in coming up with a new idea to help those you feel made a mistake, and there is nothing wrong with that.

You should expect that every time you have an idea for this, people who are fed up with these shitposting thieves trying to turn this forum into their workplace will express their opposition.

The forum itself does need some changes, assisting plagiarists is far down the list IMO. I wouldn't be opposed to some (So far 1 maybe 2) of these copypasters receiving a second chance. Really though, it's none of the people who's threads you've posted in , someone usually finds many other plagiarized posts. Those members are not victims they are a problem, and keeping them here promotes this problem.

The problems I have with your fix are that you are only assisting Hodlers and the wealthy with the rates you set up. If someone could convince the Admins of their true ignorance to the fact, and fitting with theymos's own views on the matter - "Not doing so for financial gain" - I would give them a chance with no signature for 18 months, No [ANN] threads for ICO's or bounties or businesses.

These members would also be placed on a review list, so that there posts are scrutinized for further wrongdoing.

Trimmed quote
Plagiarism is what gets people permabanned, not just copying. Plagiarism is copying with the intent of passing the work off as your own. In essentially all cases, plagiarism deserves a permaban because it usually proves definitively that the person is here for the wrong reasons: to fill up space in order to get paid, not to actually discuss or contribute.

2449  Other / Meta / Re: Posts are regularly removed. What is the reason? on: December 20, 2018, 07:18:36 PM
Can't help you the ones I saw in the mod log were all from the Russian board I believe.

You can PM the Mods and see why your posts were deleted. Some appeared to be in the same thread, where you making multiple consecutive posts?

Other than that the above answers are all possibilities.
2450  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: December 20, 2018, 03:34:46 PM
Yes if you roll back to the original firmware your miners were running you should be able to get the same results as before.

Yku may also be able to play around with the voltage and and voltage level to increase the hashrate with the current firmware.

I'd need to play around with my machine this weekend to confirm.
2451  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain promoting BitDeer is it scam or not? on: December 19, 2018, 11:55:48 PM
I'm surprised antpool was rejected, it's one of the 2 that they promote.

If they were actually providing you control over the Hash, you should be able to connect to any BTC or I guess BCH mining pool. The reason I say that is some pools are just overall better, in regards to fees and miner rewards (transaction fees) being shared.

Such a pool would be slush, or Kano.

Overall it is the same skeezy cloudmining type operation. Give us cash upfront, then continue to pay for maintenance, but wait if it becomes unprofitable we will end the contract to save you without giving you the choice to mine through at a loss. Now to their credit on that note they are not currently offering lifetime contracts which are most susceptible to this practice. I am surprised though that they weren't accepting cash payments in some way or another.

The 1$ 100TH contract did pop up for me, that's how I was able to check the options. I'm sure they didn't make many of them available, but they do recover nearly half of the savings by increasing the maintenance fee to .014$

They make it sound like you have a lot of pool support but those are just their Datacenters. I actually went through to place an order just to see what options they give you, and they are working on adding a 3rd pool hyuobi, but it will be just these 3 pools.

In the end it's a shiny attempt to lure in newbies and get them hooked on the cloudmining early, because if it's all you know it's harder to leave. They did launch with attractive rates, but again that was due to being cash strapped IMO. I would not expect those rates to last much longer especially if BTC maintains this price or continues to rally.
2452  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain promoting BitDeer is it scam or not? on: December 19, 2018, 09:49:41 PM
I would say they are not a scam.

This is of course barring Bitmain going out of business. This had been discussed a bit in the mining section. The assumption was that they just needed cash now, and this was a good way to do it.

- They may be running the S15's and making cash on the improved efficiencies in regards to the .13$/TH
- They just needed cash infusion at that moment, hence the 30 day offerings and no longer term plans.

Looks like they've added more options to the service originally they were only 50 and 100 TH offerings IIRC.

I put a small amount in (the minimum).

One thing I wondered about it was do they allow you to point to a pool of your choosing? If not do you also have to pay the pool fees depending on which one you choose between their options?
2453  Other / Meta / Re: My account is banned, I ask for Indulgence on: December 19, 2018, 07:59:47 PM
There is hope there has been talk of some accounts being worthy of leniency when they plagiarize through ignorance and not for gain. This is not likely to affect the vast majority of people or actually come to pass.

Now for the reality of your account.

I was thinking about quitting my main job (I work in the pharmaceutical field), as work in crypto began to bring me more money. But now everything has changed dramatically (you yourself saw what is happening with the market now) and now such thoughts have stopped visiting me.

The few posts that I found that were not just your work, I'm sure were only meant to meet the posting requirement or your bounties.

I may have given you the benefit of the doubt, but even then I can't stand when people just copy articles, in part or in full then act like that's constructive. Not to mention you are not supposed to use auto translate to write on boards you are not fluent, you could have tried taking advantage of programs meant to help people improve their english so they can bring those sorts of opportunities to the forum.

You though I'd say were just being lazy and deceptive, or are flat out lying as your few non bounty posts were in perfectly fine English.
2454  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Avalon A921 is on the way on: December 19, 2018, 06:30:50 PM
... Near the top the line for Vi tells you actual PSU voltage at the PCIe connectors and Vo is the core voltage regulator outputs for each board. Vo will change with changes you make in voltage level and voltage offset.

[...]

That's awesome I never really put that together. I honestly only ever briefly considered it, mostly as a point for troubleshooting.

I'm wondering if they are working on a high-efficiency firmware for the 9 series as well. That is the name of the game ATM, mind you they would likely want to wait that out until after/if they release the mythical 941 - What I expect was the original 9 series numbers released.

I can't recall but with the -voltage-level would it be presumed that no command you are at a 0 essentially, then anything from 1-15 would be an increase? I get that at some point there will probably be a sweetspot for hash and efficiency in there, but in general won't this increase overall power consumption.

This is a part of the overall account recovery overhaul to a new system. It sounds like you will still be in a queue but the that things should be moving along by the end of this year.

2456  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will btc difficulty go sideways for rest of the year? on: December 19, 2018, 05:30:51 PM
we are back to late Jun difficulty which is not bad. Grin

Nice to see. So we didn't quite make it for another 2 digit drop but it was good to see it stayed close. Now lets get back to some late June BTC prices.

I think this is where we find some more flat line stagnant Diff adjustments. Maybe 1 or 2 rounds. Sure there should be some new gear hitting the racks, but unless they are profitable still at the moment they arrive I don't expect them to run. This would be similar to the people who bought pallets of Canaan hardware in Nov/Dec, and then by Feb never set them up instead opting to try and sell to profitable markets.

We'll probably see a return of some large centers that have been in a small Limbo. They may have shutdown for a bit to see what happens( no sense pissing away money on an electric bill), possibly used the time for facility maintenance. A lot of them will be profitable again for now and if this is the start of a slow steady climb again, they'll be glad they flipped the switch back on.

I'm guessing we stay within a +3% to -3% window. Barring any large swings in price.

block found by    luckyant.5CF9BCCE6455 !

I am still offline but I still got a reward, though greatly diminished. but still nice to get something.

Must say I like the size of that last reward. It definitely helps to put some of the worries about getting to small at ease.
We are a nice size right now and still fall into the ever important metric of 100% being within a Diff period, if that makes sense. Now I'm looking forward to a block with that last 20 PH of Pool N average shed.

Stryfe or anyone else who has been priced out of their home situation for the moment. May want to check this out for Cryptoboreas they've updated availability, one bonus for new hardware would be that they are Canadian and you avoid those ROI killing tariffs.

They did run into some issues with expanding and growth this year, due to their local municipal government. However if I weren't still okay at home this is where I'd be sending my gear.

for this its becoming a garbage.

I would say a larger problem is people reading a title and not absorbing the threads content. This can lead to bumping a thread that has been inactive for 8 months, and adding nothing of value.

I was born in the wrong era. Everybody these days seems to be a little bitch, political correctness is rife, everybody gets offended about the slightest thing.

Fuck off OP, get a life.

Would being able to liberally use every slur whether racial/sexual in nature really be worth not being around for BTC.
