Can we use a community thread for flagging potential scammers? I ask because it says you can create 1 thread if you tag flag many users, or can this be a simple thread that states I flag people for these reasons and leave it at that.

Yes, but make sure that if someone goes there, it's clear what the flag is about.

Scammer flags should usually each have distinct topics.

Okay I see from your example that you don't necessarily have to create a thread. You can link to any topic that shows reasoning. So in theory I went and created a flag from a Negative feedback I left for a Selfmod/locked topic. I could have used that topic as my link as opposed to this one I threw together
1622  Economy / Reputation / Why you are flagged by me on: June 12, 2019, 03:40:58 AM
I am creating this as my landing page for when I flag a user to warn Newbies under the new flag system.

Reasons you are flagged

Selling in a locked, self moderated thread.
Deleting valid concerns or comments from a self moderated sales thread
Refusing to Escrow
Previous unresolved scam accusation - New addition June 14

I do not flag all users for these reasons, I do so on a case by case basis. I will also add to this list as time goes on. If it turns out this is allowed feel free to add your reasons here and if I agree will add them to the OP, if your values are inline with this it can be a communal landing page. If that's permitted. - This appears to be permitted but it is still advisable to create your own if you are inclined in case someone wants to have a dialogue.

I plan on only mostly using this page for 1-5 post throwaway accounts for generic warnings based on the above reasons.

Flags created under this banner

Tineems - Reference Link
Devil11 -  Link to unresolved scam accusation
bbcwholesell  -Flag- Link to open scam accusation
Rico80 - Flag
Dimitri10k- flag-Reference thread

I think this is a great tweak to the system. I am glad to see that Neutral will now have a place beside the other 2 ratings. Going to take a while to get used to the flag system but I'm glad to see Newbies were given a grace period to be given extra guidance and warnings.

A new scammer flag should be created for each separate alleged incident. In the spirit of forgiveness/redemption, scammer flags expire 3 years after the incident if the contract was casual/implied, and 10 years after the incident if the contract was written. These expiration times might be administratively changed in specific cases.

I am wondering will users be able to remove a scammer flag early in the spirit of forgiveness. Do users in your trust network automatically support flags or do they need to take action?
Quote
Creating or supporting a scammer flag is actively affirming a set of pretty clear fact-statements. If someone knowingly supports a flag containing incorrect fact-statements, then that is crystal-clear abuse, and I will seek to have such people removed from DT ASAP. People who are habitually wrong, even not knowingly, should also be removed.

I think the actively seeking to have abuse removed from DT is the deterrent people finally needed to hear to make changes to how the system was working.

Edit: Got my neutral ratings, which I was asking about again shortly before this lol. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5095156.msg51435817#msg51435817

Edit: I see now that flags can't be removed.

I'm curious now about the having to create a topic before leaving a flag. I understand it for the contracts because there should be a scam accusation. Can we use a community thread for flagging potential scammers? I ask because it says you can create 1 thread if you tag flag many users, or can this be a simple thread that states I flag people for these reasons and leave it at that.
1624  Other / Meta / Re: theymosisms - A collection of posts for reference on: June 12, 2019, 03:17:58 AM
Newest one from theymos on suggestion to add new board/ child board for Blockchain Developments. In fact, theymos rejected to create such an unnecessary board/ child board. I am not sure about your strategy to manage the thread, but in my opinion, you should create a new category, suggested namely like 'Denied Community Suggestions'.
That's not a bad idea. Most of it is covered in this post here it was a sweeping response to a lot of proposals. Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them)
One of the issues is that theymos doesn't directly state yay or nay to a lot of suggestions so they do sort of float in the wind. I may take a closer look one weekend and see if there are a significant mount of those denials but I don't recall to many.

Thanks for the last one. I had been reading it a bit on my phone. I was surprised to see the tit for tat approach being a tool towards curbing behavior. I'll gt it put in there. Overtime there will probably be a need for some other categories or add- ins. I'll likely just create a post and link it to OP when it happens.
1625  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [30-400PH] KanoPool kano.is 0.9%fee 3.9of10BTC giveaway 🐈 US,NL,JP,NYA,OR,SG on: June 12, 2019, 02:59:57 AM
We have a few large miners that failover here. They used to mine here consistently but moved on to other pools that let's say don't treat each TH the same. The nice thing is when they failover they are still ramping up and us consistent Kano miners reap the benefits of 5nd.
1626  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: June 12, 2019, 02:57:16 AM
I was always intending to choose a random subset of 100 once more than 100 became eligible. This creates more people who have a credible threat of retaliation: if you give someone negative trust for some stupid reason, you have reason to worry about them or a close friend of theirs negative-trusting you for a similarly stupid reason, if not in this month, then in a future month. I think that it pushes people (without forcing people) toward acting in-line with consensus, so that any retaliation against your sent negative trust always gets the sender excluded definitively.

IMO it'd be nice if in the future it's a subset of 100 among a pool of 250+.

Late to the party on this one. I don't think the fear of retaliation is working so far, and I get that maybe in a few years time it could. For now though the negatives don't carry the same weight, if you and your friends aren't in DT, or hang there by a thin line, your feedback soon means little. There are always the discussions people try to have to review feedback or attempt to improve themselves to have negatives reviewed. This generally just leads to more individuals jumping on the original feedback in a very tribal manner.

There's no easy fix but I like the randomizing factor. Have you considered cycling it with an offset? Using something like below would at least increase the frequency that the changes you speak about above could happen. It has the potential to cycle through more of the pool frequently. You'll either see the pool quickly become centralized through exclusions or begin to transform itself.

Spots 1-25 change on the 7th
Spots 26-50 change on the 15th
Spots 51-75 change on the 22nd
Spots 76-100 change on the 30th

Things I still think would be helpful are:
Displaying the Neutral feedback tally in the same way that Positive and Negative are displayed granting it visibility. A lot of BS feedback is personal opinion squabbles, that should be left as a neutral but aren't because it's not visible.
Having yourself lead a discussion topic towards finding consensus. Not as an imposing figure but to actively participate by engaging in 1 thread with everyone by presenting what your expectations were/are. Then using that as a jumping off point. This would be ideal over waiting for the proverbial shit to hit the fan before implementing a fix or making a statement.

1627  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: June 12, 2019, 02:06:44 AM
Right makes sense the PSU is going hard, I think I remember seeing these are using larger fans to cool the miner. Well I may be a while on those numbers, I have been put on delay again with no ship date in sight due to the ongoing issues in HK. In the meantime I will just continue to tweak my planned sound dampening for when this arrives, maybe move the M10's in there early to see how it handles them.

I imagine if you had 3 machines on that door setup you might be in trouble, seems a tight fit to prevent to prevent the backpressure off the door. Is that M10 the PSU issue?
1628  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: June 11, 2019, 09:44:08 PM
Nice info so far Phil. I was definitely expecting it to be a little quieter, but without the high pitch it might be more inline with what i was thinking overall.

If mine ever shows i can get readings on the power draw real time. I am still amazed that the LP mode wasn't working as a standard feature - mind you these are demo/engineered units.
1629  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling Antminer z11 on: June 11, 2019, 08:05:46 PM
now i am an alleged attempted scammer? wow so professional ~FTFY~

Now that is my addition and is no where near what Phil said. He has shown more patience than I've seen any escrow use on this forum, mind you I don't often see people toy with others time and money in this fashion. Watching this you've been shown infinite consideration for every possible issue that has happened to you in the last week. The fact is you are a waste of everyone's time, and I feel this was probably a really shitty Escrow for Phil to have had to manage and navigate at this time due to some of the excuses made.

You have shown up here several times since claiming to have sent the package and not once have you shown tracking information. Not that hard but you seem to act like it has to be delivered by carrier pigeon to the mountaintop offices of the Internet. I've left my feedback previously to the affect that you are essentially a time waster, and I suggest people avoid dealing with you.  I might revise it that they should have you pay escrow fees up front because you waste peoples time and BTC which is worse than your average troll.
1630  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Feature request on: June 11, 2019, 12:22:09 PM
There definitely isn't an easy way to reduce the Newbie spam that can happen, but there have been a few notable members who came here as Newbie accounts that had a lot to contribute.

Just for future reference if you have a suggestions or anything specifically about the forum you should post it in Meta. You can also search through there for previous ideas, implementations and the discussions around them.
1631  Other / Meta / Re: Quote posts from locked topics? Why it's not allowed? on: June 11, 2019, 11:40:20 AM
Sorry I might be missing a step here but why do you need to quote the post to report plagiarism? You can just put the link in the "report to moderator" field for the original article/post. Or is this more for when a user is asking why they were banned and you found the post?

I did find the lack of this feature a bit annoying when quoting some older posts, but remembered a workaround I'd seen actmyname use to give it a similar effect. The ones here are much easier and less time consuming I'd say.
1632  Other / Meta / Re: Your Account got Banned ? Look first here ! on: June 11, 2019, 05:06:39 AM
Just create a thread on the meta board. Label it [Ban Appeal] for <insert original account name>.

From there explain you don't know why you were banned, include a link to your username. I believe your account should have also had a message from the Forum explaining that you were banned, with an email address to appeal to.

A couple things will happen, a random forum user will find the infraction. Most bans come down to plagiarism, and you would have to prove your account is a positive to the forum as a whole.
1633  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Quiet [40 dB, 8 THs/500 W] Hotmine Convector Miner. Product Overview on: June 11, 2019, 03:37:45 AM
I read this in the morning and didn't follow to the website. I like it overall it's a neat silent heat option for an office space or something. A larger design with the ability to heat rooms would be neat to see. The price is a killer for most though like Phil mentioned - 1800 USD is what I assume it was saying.

When it comes to being a heater - the efficiency doesn't really matter. Keeping the noise down is the biggest concern. A power hungry beast just allows more heat into the room, if you can downclock it through settings then it can be tweaked to comfort. That's they type of model I would want to see, a 5 month heater (depending on location) with the added benefit of mining BTC.
1634  Other / Archival / Re: [Raffle] .1 BTC prize - 12/16 Spots @ .0068 BTC each on: June 11, 2019, 01:23:43 AM
Posted this in another area to see if we can get some traction in this raffle (collectibles).
I appreciate it. I didn't want to go around mentioning this everywhere as it could come off as spammy. Feel free to spread the word to any and all you think may be interested.

~snip~

Yeah I remember yours it's a shame you couldn't get more traction with the LN, it was a neat proposal that's for sure. I still haven't taken the time to learn more about it, just been a crazy few weeks. I had hoped that the larger prize for my inaugural Raffle would draw in more people, definitely a lot of looky loos.

Either way if the participants who have signed on so far are okay to wait then so am I. I do plan on launching a few other raffles possibly with more spots at cheaper prices using the last 2 characters of a block. I do have an idea for a neat novelty payout as well but I need to test somethings out first.

12 spots left for your chance to say you won Steamtyme's first raffle, so much prestige. You know that and .1BTC  Grin
1635  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Demo M20 v1 is on order due May 20th on: June 10, 2019, 02:27:58 PM
Well I'm glad there were no issues with getting gear in a timely fashion early in the year. This to me is more of a Pangolin customer service issue, I'm fairly confident that at least one person is receiving their miner before me that ordered or made arrangements after me. That's really my only issue with the M20s experience so far. I didn't have the option to spread out my gear purchases due to the 240v rating of many PSU'S. In the future it might just be worth the few extra dollars to use whatsminer for my orders.  We'll see how this turns out.
1636  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Demo M20 v1 is on order due May 20th on: June 10, 2019, 02:09:38 PM
Wow. Glad to hear yours has nearly arrived.
Apparently mine was bumped, their claim was that only part of their shipment cleared Chinese customs. More than a little pissed, and will think long and hard before using Pangolin in the future.
1637  Other / Archival / Re: [Raffle] .1 BTC prize - 12/16 Spots @ .0068 BTC each on: June 10, 2019, 12:05:22 PM
I’ll take 1 and a - thanks!

They are yours. Thanks for participating, hopefully we can get this filled today.

12 spots left to be claimed for your chance at .1 BTC
1638  Other / Meta / Re: Your Account got Banned ? Look first here ! on: June 10, 2019, 12:31:52 AM
If that's true follow the ban appeals process and create a topic in Meta about your situation, anything more than that is Ban Evasion.

Listen you disn't get a Parma ban for saying something people disagree with. You can honestly say anything you want here, and admins don't give a shit, unless you are excessively trolling and that's a high bar or you plagiarized content.

So make your thread show us who you were and people will look and respond.
1639  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: June 09, 2019, 04:26:35 PM
I can't say for sure. If it's anything like the m10 then there would be a Low Power mode. I should have mine in the next 3 days- I'll update once it's hooked up.

Nice. Lets keep it that way my very late M20s should be here and hashing by Wednesday. If it doesn't last lets hope they crack a block before bolting.
