1461  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Summer Mining - Home miner on: July 13, 2019, 06:25:48 PM
~snip~
Yeah that's pretty much the hot aisle cold aisle idea. I do have space to set something like that up. I't just not necessary for me at the moment, my exhaust goes directly outside, and I get ambient air in through the filters. So far I don't seem to be getting any recirculated air coming back in or if there is it's minimal. Intake space is nearly 3X the exhaust and pulls from either side so no chance of all airflow being recirculated air.

Does your mineral wool make dust in your sound proof tunnel?

-Brought this over- So far I'm not getting anything noticeable, any dust right now would be residual from what was in the garage already despite my cleaning. I will probably open the M10's up in a couple of weeks and see how they look. I cleaned them all before popping them in the tunnel. I did originally worry about the mineral wool itself flaking off but last winter I didn't see any evidence of that. Even with the current airflow it doesn't seem likely. I do still have a plan as I was considering trying to move the miners in a little further or build the tunnel back a bit to improve sound dampening within the garage; I'm going to use some screen to wrap any insulation on the intake side of the miner. That or reuse some of my rigid pink but it won't be as effective.
I start a week of holidays tomorrow and some renos so that might be a fun break for me this week.

BUYER BEWARE SELLER SOLD ME A BAD MINER AND STILL WONT REPLY THE BEST HASHBOARD ON THE MINER WAS BURNT WHEN IT ARRIVED

Going to have to see some proof - No one is taking you at your word for anything anymore. TXID's, Photos, anything that shows you are not making this up.

Seems odd for this to have happened, and you haven't posted anything here about it for more than a month; until the thread got bumped that is.  Roll Eyes
1463  Economy / Reputation / Re: Can somebody tag this idiot? on: July 13, 2019, 04:22:46 PM
I don't think bans are given out for providing such services. Even if they could, your logic still wouldn't work here because they're huge account farmers and it really doesn't make a difference if one of their accounts get banned. Negative rating will stand as a warning for projects who hire these ANN bumpers that by using such services you're risking your project' future on bitcointalk.
The reason of my suggestion to give them a temp ban is this:
Quote
Sending unsolicited PMs, including but not limited to advertising and flood, is not allowed.

About hiring them: You think those who hire them really do care about their (ANN bumpers) reputation. They will hire the ANN bumpers just to bump their topics.
The ban would make the most sense strictly looking at the PM's. I recall Hhampuz received a 7 day ban when they sent some PM's out soliciting business. Wasn't a big deal and they just didn't do it again. You will see there was no need to neg rate him for the PM's.

With tags that's again up to each person to decide based on this servic that they are selling. I have seen people leave negative feedback in the past with thread bumping services - not sure if they've changed them. They took issue with the nature of the service, itself and found it untrustworthy.

Quote
Since this service is aginst forum rules so it's not matter of just tag.
Not sure who gave you this idea,

Maybe I misunderstood but I believe coolcryptovator is saying that leaving feedback isn't necessary and allow admins to take action for breaking forum rules.

theymos has stated when you see someone breaking "guidelines" that you should report them and let the Admins take action.
1464  Other / Meta / Re: Why my topic had been deleted? on: July 13, 2019, 03:20:40 PM
If you want some real answers you can post a copy of what the topic was here and then we could probably point out the reasoning. If you'd like to go into your "drafts" It can be found under the post and preview buttons when you are writing a post. Then look for the topic you created - it will be in one of the boxes of text as long as this was within 100 posts/previews or PM's.

Until we can see what you typed it would only be a guess.

Edit: Just noticed DdmrDdmr pointed you towards the drafts already.
1465  Other / Meta / Re: Negative Trust for innocent newbies who have no knowledge yet in the forum on: July 13, 2019, 01:40:50 PM
This is not a meta (forum) issue this is a reputation issue. The Pharmacist has a thread open about your PM request to review the feedback left. You can find it here. I suggest locking this topic and moving your discussion issue to that thread.
1466  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB/WTS] ASIC parts Recycling Repair Reuse ♲♻⚒ on: July 13, 2019, 01:26:12 PM
Hey,

If your interested I have a T9+ minus the controller. 2 boards were perfectly fine one board had a lost chain, which looked like maybe a chip had burned out - showed up that way. LEt me know if you'd like those parts it would ship from Canada -  you just have to cover shipping and you could toss in a little extra if you feel like it.  Wink

At a minimum I know you will recycle it properly if it isn't something you need, where as my towns wooden box, I'm not so sure the mice know where to deliver the recyclable components.
1467  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: July 13, 2019, 01:17:21 PM
Must be early for some reason I thought you were posting Power consumption.  Wink
I'm pretty sure this has been in the pipeline going back to when they changed the specs from 72TH to 68 TH. I know the Demo unit I received should have been a 68 but wound up being a 65. When I was doing up my review I came across the various models they would have - I still think the 65TH model is probably the sweet spot for now. Time will tell if it's just to much for the one power connector or not.

Yeah the November wait times is just to much. Especially considering for me that's the time of year I start to run less efficient models for home heating, so I'd be better off sourcing another M10 in the meantime. I do feel like I have a hole to fill looking at the my 1 PDU supporting 1 machine.
1468  Other / Meta / Re: A wave of bans: 400 yesterday, 300 the day before. What changed? on: July 13, 2019, 12:53:02 AM
Speaking of all these bans, isn't it just past the 60 day mark from when the Bot started running? We should start seeing some of the users who received a lenient punishment trickling back into the forum any day now. The ones that plan to return and contribute under that account anyways.
1469  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: M20S or anything else? on: July 12, 2019, 09:51:01 PM
It's tough. You just have to figure out if getting any of this gear at the moment makes sense for you. I agree with what mikey says below here. In this instance it could be worth it to pay a reseller their mark-up. It puts he gear in your hands sooner, so you don't slowly watch the Diff rise and kill your profits. Most hardware out has already sold a Batch a month starting Aug/Sep leading all the way to November. This means a potential Diff increase similar to the beginning of 2018.
The difference there was that there was a lot of gear available on hand. So people paid absurd prices based on the market and then watched each batch boost the Diff. Obviously as price tanked so did a lot of the hashrate. Hard to say what Diff will look like in December but if this price continues to hold, and all gear sold ships out we might be sitting 30% higher than we are now.

another option would be buying whatever is available now or has less waiting time, saw someone on Telegram selling M21s-56th (End of July) for about 3200$  and S17 4000$ (Aug) in china.

In the meantime you can check this thread out and see all new gear then check to see what you want, and when it might be available. Current List of Competitive Hardware - July 2019
1470  Other / Meta / Re: [FARM SUPPRESSION] Clearing the Horde of Spammers on: July 12, 2019, 09:37:39 PM
It makes no sense to me how those posts are valid. I included the post numbers in there for a reason.
Here's the facet that I'm trying to show with my numerical point: if a very general thread (i.e. Do you need cash for everyday use?) already has already 400 replies... enough has been said.
If you're not going to enter the topic with a nuanced reply then all you have are bland, repetitious posts.

Just a thought they may have been left alone with it being a self-moderated thread. Still should have been purged or it's otherwise just promoting the creation of self-modded spam pools. I've gone thorough quite a few threads like this in Bitcoin Discussion - where I go back over the last week and report probably 16/20 posts on a page. I have taken to writing a short novel for some of the reports though.... hmmm maybe start with haikus.

These are just a couple examples of something I would type when I go through some of these threads.
Code:
Redundant post - Generic repetitive content stalls the discussion - low value adds nothing new - sig spam
Redundant post - quoting to feign conversation - adds nothing new to the topic - spam
1471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ooops of the day on: July 12, 2019, 09:14:16 PM
~snip~Would you suggest to move it here?
Also, can someone explain to a non miner, what's logic behind mining empty blocks?

No worries, I still have a hard time deciding where to put a post there sometimes. You could move it if you want but it would be fine here to, might just have to report the odd spamfiller here and there.

The logic behind mining empty blocks doesn't exist. It has something to do with the pool code I believe, at least when the empty block occurs very shortly after the previous block. This pool may have begun trying to solve the block before downloading and validating the transactions in the previous block, to avoid creating an invalid block by potentially including a transaction from the previous block they don't include any transactions in their work.

I'm not the best to explain this sort of thing, but I do know that a pool can make changes to prevent this from happening. I guess to them it's not as big a deal because many miners out there still don't understand their rewards breakdowns and what pools may be in their best interests. So they don't have to justify why a point in the system that exists to validate transactions isn't validating transactions when they are available.
1472  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do high-paying campaigns pose a threat to the community? on: July 12, 2019, 08:26:44 PM
I recall 2017/2018 when there were tons of campaigns active that once a week or so there was a new one not paying, and they had advertised comparable or lower rates than others. So I don't thin it's the payment structure to blame, as usual just people.
It'd be nice of you if you could list out a few more campaigns (even with less pay) which turned out to be scams (although, no bounties please) and / or didn't pay their users while declared as scammers.
Quote
The high paying ones just draw in more attention from people so they can become more memorable or be scrutinized earlier.
You're right. Actually, this thread is more focused on high-paying campaigns as it's easy to find them because more or less, these campaigns have been a part of our community and were always looked for by us at least once in terms of enrolling ourselves into them. I'm glad I was not a part of those projects that turned into scam sooner or later.

Took me a bit to find some as I just randomly picked spots but here is 3 by 2 managers that ended poorly. I never looked into the services they were advertising for or what came of them. They all did have payment issues by the end, 2 of them run by the same "manager".
[FULL] CellBlocks SIG and Avatar Campaign
The Tip Token - Signature Campaign - 20 Members - Closed
BITTO.TECH - [PAUSED] FOR 2 WEEKS - SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN

I can't say what the intentions were of the projects behind these campaigns this could have all resulted solely from a poor choice in manager taking the funds. In most cases though I didn't see anything showing this to be true. I also can't really say how many scam projects may have run a quick campaign to promote their ICO or "service" before exit scamming. There was a lot of traffic and news to hide behind late 2017 early 2018, earlier than that I wasn't involved.

Having a descent campaign managers who researches their projects, and secondly will honestly call out shady behavior are the biggest steps to not advertising for a scammy service or getting scammed for payment.
1473  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do high-paying campaigns pose a threat to the community? on: July 12, 2019, 06:06:16 PM
I can't say it's just the high paying campaigns that should be labeled a concern. It really comes down to campaigns that com in and for 1 don't use an escrow or somewhat reputable/established member of the forum to manage the campaign. Unfortunately with every service out there they can become a scam in a heartbeat if things don't go their way - as evidenced with Betcoin as you point out.

Without standards and sureties in place any organization that runs a campaign here can turn out to be shady. It does make you wonder the type of traffic and fees some can pull in like yobit to afford paying that much out to essentially carpet bomb their adverts. I recall 2017/2018 when there were tons of campaigns active that once a week or so there was a new one not paying, and they had advertised comparable or lower rates than others. So I don't thin it's the payment structure to blame, as usual just people. The high paying ones just draw in more attention from people so they can become more memorable or be scrutinized earlier.
1474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ooops of the day on: July 12, 2019, 05:51:59 PM
Man that would suck. At least for most people mining on Antpool it probably wouldn't affect their rewards to much, last I checked they were mostly PPS so they get paid he same for every share regardless of block numbers or transaction fees. I know I've seen kano talk about a lot of these pools mining empty blocks, but don't really know what would have caused this particular error, I'm sure Antpool has found a network block in a similar fashion before.

I probably would have posted this in mining speculation for a more miner related conversation - or Pools but not likely it would have remained there.
1475  Economy / Reputation / Re: To crypto|george and saifulbdit91 re: feedback removal on: July 12, 2019, 05:39:42 PM
With Saifu - I would say you have not labeled them a scammer. With the new system they do not carry any warnings about trading or caution. Just appropriate feedback imo for someone who was trying to buy an account. Now I can't see their reference link so I'm not sure what the situation was.

With George - It's the same thing, they did clearly try to engage in an account purchase. They may not have known the opinions people have for that situation but it still shows they wanted to buy an account rank they hadn't earned to pass themselves off that way, or sell it again. Either way the feedback seems fine to me, it doesn't actually inhibit them in any way. That includes taking into account signature campaigns, because they haven't done anything to rank up in all this time.

Honestly, they should just consider creating a new account and suing that like a do-over. Hopefully they have read the rules and understand the acceptable practices for the forum.

Add another negative rating as "Trying to defame a reputed member by false retaliatory feedback without any references". I wouldn't even care what the case was but these newbie scums leaving retaliatory negative feedback is very annoying.

I disagree, a neutral about retaliatory feedback would be more appropriate if someone felt the need to respond to that sort of thing.
1476  Other / Meta / Re: Formatting issue - Difference between preview and posted content on: July 12, 2019, 05:12:07 PM

Boom; and that did it. I didn't play around with it to much last night as it was a momentary panic to just make it not look shitty lol. I ran into something similar with the text being to long when I was typing between images but sorted it by giving each sentence it's own line in the row. I read parts of that thread so long ago, I didn't even think to go back.

I still find it weird that it isn't until posting that the problem presents itself, and that it's not all the images. At least I have a solution for the future.
1477  Other / Meta / Formatting issue - Difference between preview and posted content on: July 12, 2019, 04:30:49 PM
So I have been trying to put a little more effort into my formatting  for certain posts - Reviews,Guides, Informative. Last night was such an occasion I created this review but had to wipe some of my attempts at formatting the text and images using "table" and "columns".

I created this topic in archival to showcase how the post appeared when I originally posted it, and the second post shows a screencap of how it displayed in preview. I'm not positive why this happens; I assume it has something to do with how the post displays once posting members profile appears on the left side. Apart from that it displays properly when I look at it from my list of previously created topics, from my profile.

I'm also not ruling out that it may be the way I was attempting to format the post resulting in the images being squished. If it's not that though it seems there is a difference between the space allotted for preview, as opposed to posted content.

This is a review of my experience with the M20S 65 TH miner by MicroBT. This miner is built using 12nm chips and comes with a built-in PSU. I have allowed it to run monitored for a few days to get a good baseline for power consumption. The average temperature for the environment would be approximately 27 degrees Celsius.

Real Performance VS. Advertised Performance

This model boasts an advertised efficiency of 48 W/TH or .048 J/GH @ 65TH +/- 5% drawing 3120 W +/- 10%
Real world tests came in within spec as can be seen above. I am seeing 65 TH @ 3232 W giving us an efficiency of .0497 J/GH

This is a pass for the M20S model, it delivers as promised.

Ease of use
Install

55555555555555555555555555
It doesn't get much easier to set up than this. You are responsible for 2 connections.
The first being the network cable which connects to Ethernet port.
The second is the power cable. The miner requires a cable with a C19 connector on the power cable.
I used a 12 gauge cable rated to 20 amps - Pictured is the supplied cable
Note you will need to ensure you have a circuit within spec for the PSU.
This means a minimum line voltage of 200V and maximum of 260V.
Confirm your particular models specs as PSU's may change.

Login and Configuration
Once you've accessed the miners IP on your network you will log in using these credentials - Username - admin, Password - admin.
Select the "Configuration" tab and then select "CGminer Configuration" from the drop down menu. Here you will enter your preferred pools information as provided by them. There is a power mode tab - Low Power function is not available at this time. I will update this if it becomes available.

Noise

This Miner is louder than anything I have run before. Using an App on my phone I received ~ 68 db near the miner on the inlet side. Readings taken from the Exhaust side were spiking as high as 78 db. A more accurate meter would be useful, but if you want to use this in a residential environment you need to consider sound proofing. It can be done as evidenced by my setup, but I would not recommend running this in a residential or home capacity without a plan for the noise.

Packaging and Physical Specs

The miner arrived in standard packaging for MicroBT miners. I saw no damage and everything felt secure as I tilted the machine to listen for loose or damaged components. It is larger and heavier than the M10's but overall has a similar appearance. See images below for unpacking.

Advertised Specs
  • Hashrate - 65 TH/S +/- 5%
  • Power Consumption - 3120 W +/- 10%
  • Efficiency - 48W/TH
  • Size: 39cm Length x 15.5cm Width x 24cm height
  • Weight - 10.75 kg
  • Operating Temperatures - -5C - 35C
  • Power Specs - 200V-240V  ** MicroBT English site rates up to 300V. I will seek clarification.

Note about the Built-in PSU - Advertised is the P21 PSU, mine appears to be a P20 model, which I will inquire about.

Manufacturer: MicroBT - https://www.microbt.com/
Distributors: PangolinMiner - https://pangolinminer.com/ ; Whatsminer - https://whatsminer.net/

My personal opinion - Overall I am pleased with this miner, and would buy another of the M20 series. It delivered on spec, and on days that have gone above 30 degrees Celsius I haven't had any issues. I am disappointed that it didn't have the Low Power mode available with this batch, and hope it will become available. On the warm days I mentioned it would be nice to have the ability to change the power mode.
