2821  Other / Meta / Re: 2 questions (Merit & Spam related). Higher ranked opinion needed. on: September 24, 2018, 09:54:52 PM
1) I hate these threads but I have in the past used them to inform OP that IMO they would be better off starting a topic in their own words and still link to the article.

I can't honestly say they've ever read my posts. Most of them are likely former bans for plagiarism.  They are not here to contribute they are here to earn and boost their post count.

2)After the change I did reward a newbie their merit , who was al.ost in this category. I did look st their history and they by no means spammed the forum, there were legitimate decent posts in between bounty applications.

I may have held off if the only decent post they had made came after the 1 merit rule, just to make sure it wasn't only to earn a merit and was part of a greater trend towards Improvement.

Edit:
I can live without some forum ranks and merits Smiley

Good because this is an example of a shitpost in the wild.
2822  Other / Meta / Re: My Hero account Badjacks99 was hacked. on: September 24, 2018, 11:51:54 AM
How long since you tried logging in?

A cursory glance does appear the posting style changed a while back. While you won't get the account back without a signed message, you may (if you care) convince someone to tag the account if you provide information regarding the email that had been sent when you could have locked the account.
2823  Other / Meta / Re: Flaws In The Merit System. on: September 24, 2018, 11:44:48 AM
I see no point in giving merits to legendaries.

Is that because you think they will flow your way, if not handed out to Legendary members?

The point is that someone feels it is a quality post, and regardless of the rank quality posts should earn merit.
2824  Other / Meta / Re: Writing a welcome message on: September 24, 2018, 04:03:27 AM
While this is currently a touchy subject in itself. I think the message would benefit from having some information regarding account recovery.

An explanation about how it's not automatic or guaranteed at this point in time. This could be in the form of explaining why it's important to secure their password.
2825  Other / Meta / Re: When everybody says “Merit” I'm asking: What about Activity??? on: September 24, 2018, 01:29:06 AM

Today it’s possible that guy whose only activity on forum was asking for free coins 60 times (airdrop) or taking part in few bounties is writing one good post (or get 10 merits in other way – as you all know it’s unfortunately possible) and he is automatically given Member rank. Does such guy really deserve Member rank?

Even in signature bounty campaigns posts from bounty threads are not counted so why we should count it while calculating important Activity parameter.
Summing up: my idea is to cut off the posts written in bounties section from the number of posts used to calculate activity parameter.
I’m not sure how difficult it could be from the developer side, but if there are future, which divides all written post into 14-days periods and then calculated only not empty periods probably there would be also possibility to cut off post from bounty board while calculation activity.

I don't think activity really matters anymore. The landscape here has changed over the years and that's why a new metric such as Merit was introduced at a time when more was needed. Other than it's a historical/traditional aspect of the forum ranks don't matter much either. Today merit is the gauge of an account that is more than likely to provide you with information of interest or usefulness. This will be more accurate as time goes on and we've gotten further removed from the air dropped merit distribution.

Your changes are not very difficult for the Admins to implement as it has been done in other sections, but I do not see it as an effective way to keep these members low on activity. They will just spam some other board if they actually need the activity, which is the easiest part of the equation now.

A more effective idea to remove bounties from spoiling the forum would be to remove the ability to merit in bounty threads or boards.
2826  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 7nm Avalon ASIC (A3207) • AvalonMiner A9 • 0.06-0.07 J/GH on: September 23, 2018, 04:30:31 AM
I don't think the 921 is reflective of their best product with 7nm Chips.

Not sure about their overall process but hasn't it been the case going back to at least the 7 series, that they have a x21 model that kinda delivers, but is soon replaced by the x41 which tends to be the best option for that line. Generally being significantly more efficient, powerful or both.

2827  Other / Meta / Re: Is it okay to go on as a member without caring so much about merits? on: September 22, 2018, 09:42:26 PM
OP.

You need to work on your multiposting, use the edit button  and yheninsert quote feature to reply to multiple posts. Multiposting is against forum rules.

Here are some tips for posting.
2828  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: September 22, 2018, 11:28:57 AM
ahh that is a bad system. But how can some legendary members have 100+ spendable merits? they have only 1000 Merits and that too they got it automatically from activity as soon as we shifted to merit system.

Not a bad system it has been fairly effective and was able to be used as a tool recently to combat spam. The real tell moving forward is not the total amount of merit but the amount of merit received.

Those legendary you speak of would likely still have their initial smerit received when the system started every rank member and above received some I think. Legendary accounts I think had 200 at the beginning.
2829  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: September 22, 2018, 08:13:43 AM
No only merit sources receive a new allocation after a given period of time.

Other members receive .5 sMerit for every merit they receive. So next time you get 2 merits you can award one yourself.

^^
Buy a copper membership. Or just pretend you are lurking again, but outloud. Then maybe someone will drop a merit on you or something.

Looked very briefly, and here's what I found.

Didn't bother to see if you had been accepted to said signature so maybe you were accurate in you "never joined" statement, just applied. Regardless same advice above applies.

thornmas fertilizer

Get your thornmas brand fertilizer here folks. Trusted brand used to farm up a healthy crop of accounts. Don't forget to mix in a nice healthy dose of shitposts, with your thornmas fertilizer for best results.

thornmas the name you trust.

The reason the ebay doesn't prove you have the goods is we can't verify the account is actually yours. The topic referenced below goes over the photo and escrow. Good luck with your sale

Here are some generally accepted guidelines for posting selling on the forum.
2833  Economy / Reputation / Re: MalReynolds - selling his account on: September 22, 2018, 04:50:57 AM
Glad you reported it OP, as it's a likely compromised account that stayed under the radar for to long

The odds are this account was compromised, because no one with half a brain is going to advertise the actual account, seeing as it will be tagged in red and rendered nearly useless to anyone buying. Wonder if it was hacked twice because it apparently changed hands almost a year ago. If it's still the second owner I change it to no brain, because in that time they should have realized it would be neg'd; glad they didn't.

It's nice that Malreynolds2(likely owner) tagged the account but they should have also made a post in reputation or brought it to the attention of a DT member. It's tagged now at least so that's a bonus.
2834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN accepted for Airline fare and School fee on: September 22, 2018, 04:14:57 AM
I did a little more digging, and reread the thread. Looks like the airline industry is well suited to accepting BTC for flights. This was some news in January about a Bitnet partnership with UATP. I think the future for airlines, tuition and other similar transactions that generally have a time lag between payment and service would be to accept BTC directly without a middleman.

I'm guessing they'll also give it back based on the fiat value since that's the specific amount you gave to them during that time. Giving it back based on BTC could mean a loss or win for either sides depending on the price movement.

That makes sense at least until a time where volatility is reduced.

maybe start form bill payment and buy some little stuff

There are services that make bill payments for BTC, they're not available everywhere but it is a step in the right direction. I have been able to make a lot of other smaller purchases using BTC, but nothing like a cup of coffee, or something on the go. It's usually transactions online that can wait for the confirmations to role in.

because a class of Philippine airlines is a state-owned airport, where if that is true, then what will happen is philippine indirectly legalized bitcoin in its country.

Missed this on my first read through. It's hard to say if that line could be drawn. I noticed that the page I was looking at says Bitcoin/Coins.ph. That to me looks more like we accept payment through Coins.ph and don't physically hold our own BTC. It would be the same as writing we accept Paypal, to some extent. I tried checking out their site and couldn't navigate to the offline payment page to read about it, to be sure.
2835  Other / Meta / Re: Is it okay to go on as a member without caring so much about merits? on: September 22, 2018, 03:17:32 AM
^^
Not saying you did anything wrong. Considering you had gone through their post history and found them to be a decent member of the forum deserving of merit, could you not have merited a post that you reviewed.

Either way, I'm glad to see you reviewed their previous posts before giving the merit, as it is more effort on your part. I understand what VOD means because the shitposters see it as a beacon to create another topic here and they might get a merit to. Though they usually wind up doing something stupid and getting neg'd or busted for plagiarism.

To OP, you've already had the answer you were seeking. I just want to ad that's the perfect attitude to have here on the forum. Come for the knowledge stay for the community.
2836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN accepted for Airline fare and School fee on: September 22, 2018, 03:08:11 AM
This level of adoption is great for Bitcoin in general, and is an ideal use of it as a currency. Mostly because it is a transaction that doesn't need to be processed in seconds.

Bitcoin needs these types of industries to help push people to use it as a currency as opposed to an investment. I only looked into the airline option but for tuition it has the same benefit above.

Now what I really wonder is how they would handle returns/cancellations. Would it be reimbursed based on FIAT or BTC, as previous companies had done their returns in accordance with the FIAT value.
2837  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: (Review/Guide) WhatsMiner M10 33.0 Th/s, 2145W Bitcoin (SHA-256) ASIC miner on: September 21, 2018, 11:43:53 PM
Great review and write up. They are definitely a company to watch. As it is I could put 3 of these in to replace everything I'm running and and just about double my TH/s

Crazy doing this on 16nm. Hopefully sales go well and they can get their hands on some 7nm.
2838  Other / Meta / Re: New subforum for "Merit" on: September 21, 2018, 09:43:39 PM
I'm pretty sure this idea was kicked around in the months following the merit systems original launch.

Unfortunately if these people can't be bothered to find the right sub forum now or post all similar concerns in a thread already running; I don't think a new sub forum would help.

Ideally it also won't be needed in the coming months as this traffic should drop off.

Wow starting to miss those red ones... said no one ever.

Been a really good run lately that combined with the minimal diff increase had made for a nice week so far.
2840  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain announces a new 7nm mining chip - BM1391 on: September 21, 2018, 08:19:52 PM
Well anything less and they would be last out of the gate. Not to mention they still have to build the machine around the chip, while trying not to use to much power cooling.

With this at least they can try and throw money at the problem to speed up production and try to launch something by the end of the year.
