3101  Economy / Reputation / Re: Help Sold account and got scammed on: August 09, 2018, 01:29:32 PM
My argument is pretty solid and the degrading of this account shouldn’t have taken place in the beginning.

How it came to light that the account has changed hands will not matter .

To the community this is equivalent to identity theft/fraudulent representation. Regardless of the outcome the account will remain tagged in red to warn others it has changed hands.
3102  Economy / Reputation / Re: Help Sold account and got scammed on: August 09, 2018, 03:16:07 AM
Honestly, other than the account getting tagged so members here know I could care less that you receive assistance.

I believe an Admin maybe a MOD, can review the messages on the account, even if they were deleted to validate the claim.

Seeing as there are many honest members on the Forum waiting to recover their hacked accounts, you have 0 chance of getting it back anytime soon.

Funny you came asking for help from a community, you obviously care to little about to just crash the account or walk away.
3103  Other / Meta / [Proposal] Ban the fools on: August 09, 2018, 03:09:15 AM
Clickbait... wait no this is serious.

I only recently started to look into auctions, and so far my first experience has been shit. This is because the user does not respect the forum or the community as far as I can tell. They don't seem the typical scammer, I honestly think they are just a fool.

They have attempted to run at least 2 auctions from what I can tell, and they end in a trainwreck.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4843249.msg43681957#msg43681957

The one I'm a part of, resulted in a PM asking me to make an offer, as they are not receiving the interest they had hoped for.

My proposal currently only relates to Auctions and collectibles. Obviously could be expanded.

If someone is continuously violating the board rules, can we issue them with a board specific ban. In this instance the user could still post their goods properly on the computer hardware board but would be prohibited from posting an auction.

This member isn't the best example but I feel some may still be able to participate in discussions at a decent level but should lose some privileges for up to 1 year.
3104  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should UBI Replace all Welfare Systems? on: August 09, 2018, 02:43:56 AM
On the other hand, we wouldn't want to falsely categorize otherwise unrelated people living at the same address (e.g. roommates) as "partners" and reduce their UBI, right? This gets very complicated very quickly.
You're not wrong but I feel any system that looks to encompass a large group of people living in inequality will be complex in nature. The checks and balances of this system would again have to be hammered out by the administering government, and be open to adapting to changing circumstances. Admittedly something governments are becoming worse at as time goes on. For my country it would probably fall into the category of filing tax returns that would help to decide what is a couple or not, again there will be the couples that are "roomates" for life. No matter the system for regulating anything there will be those who find a way around it.

Quote
Overall the main thing making me extremely skeptical towards UBI is that it is loved both by bright-red socialists and hardcode libertarians, which seems to indicate that the idea is unworkable in practice.

Skepticism is healthy, and needed in any good debate. Anyone who goes into something like this without an open mind towards failure or success will at some point only hinder the development of the project. I personally don't reject an idea based on who is for or against it, regardless of my opinion, but I tend to try and see the points of failure. This has helped me personally with planning, developing and learning in general.

Quote
Or we could focus on what has been working reasonably well if not perfectly, e.g. improving education, healthcare, public safety, infrastructure, etc to give people a better chance at upward mobility plus a decent safety net, boring as it may be.

Agreed, boring doesn't mean bad. It has been shown that education is one of the best things you can do to help raise a nation. The majority of what you mentioned as well help create jobs, which usually accompany a program to bring unemployed persons back into the workforce; or provide low to medium skilled workers for a chance at upgrading.

Personally I have no problem admitting that my mother required the social safety nets in place to provide for us at some points in her life. She also took the opportunities that were presented to her, to upgrade and built a great career for herself. Based on my upbringing I've seen both the failures and successes of the system. This is why I will never agree with doing nothing to try and help elevate people and their situations, and the solution isn't always just handing out a check.

Been a great discussion. I feel the differing opinions and ideals seen here are exactly what need to be in place when the powers that be are deciding how to proceed. Unfortunately I feel we've been more open-minded and respectful in our discussions here than many governments prove to be.

LOL I can only dream I have enough LOL.  I want more don't get me wrong, I would like nothing more than to be able to provide my wife and kids with a substantial nest egg should something happen to me (like the deep state lizzard pedo's taking a hit out on me  Wink !!!!!!!!!) but I don't want it from people with much less than I currently have!

It's good to dream and there is nothing wrong with wanting more regardless of being single or having a family. I can understand the wanting to make sure a family is covered no matter what happens. Another nice bonus, to a UBI or other programs.

You obviously forgot your tinfoil hat, and to spin around 3 times in each doorway before turning on your computer if they know where to take a hit out. Wink

3105  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should UBI Replace all Welfare Systems? on: August 08, 2018, 11:55:27 PM
That right there sounds prone to abuse and unfairness if applied to any significant extent outside of a limited experiment. Expect shitloads of "unmarried" or suddenly "divorced" couples claiming $13k each. Kids need to eat and go to school and can't earn for themselves.

The only way this could possibly work at least to some extent as a replacement for welfare without its accompanying bureaucracy is if it's straight $13k for everyone, not dependent on marital status or age limitations, but you would still need some government involvement to make sure that e.g. kids are not starving and people with disabilities or other issues have a fair chance. Unless we're disregarding all that as part of the whole welfare system, in which case we might as well cut the UBI off at the age of 65 and let them old-timers fend for themselves.

I like your straightforward approach but I do not believe that children should be considered in the universal equation as "equals". I would not be opposed in any way to having a smaller portion allotted for a household with children as there is a substantial cost increase associated. Believe me I know Wink
I also believe there will still need to be considerations taken for the disabled and elderly, to ensure proper care. Especially when both groups can at times be mistreated, forgotten or taken advantage of.

Again the UBI, is not meant to be something you can make a living off, it is supposed to help everyone have the opportunity to meet the basic necessities of life, but not being limited to lower income earners. It also is not tied to only being able to spend the money in a certain way, it is your income, which also has the potential for abuse. I just rarely any program should be tweaked based on the small number of people abusing it. The fine tuning of how benefits are calculated and paid, should be something we can learn from these experiments if they are run start to finish and analysed in an unbiased manner.

To touch back on the shitloads you describe, yes there may be something along those lines. I imagine then that they would have to be looked at tin the same way as a common law relationship is. Which most of the time is no different than married. The added cost of a new address would negate the gains these people may be trying to grab.

It is also currently happening or at least being considered.

3106  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should UBI Replace all Welfare Systems? on: August 08, 2018, 09:48:15 PM
What used to be called "middle class" makes what - $60k a year? (median family income in the US). Now imagine a family of four getting $52k "free".

As the program right now is speculation the UBI is generally applied to only adults, or persons in the age of majority.
I haven't looked into how many of the pilot programs were calculated but some actually provide a lesser amount to couples. So If you or I as an individual were to receive 13000 as a couple we may receive 21000.

I'm not going to lie if the only thing keeping someone at there back breaking job is that they "need" that amount if money, I think them being able to take a lesser wage for the trade off of better mental health or less hard labor good for them. This would allow people to make decisions based on more than the dollars earned.

As with any system there will be people who try and abuse it or give it a bad name. I personally feel the overall net benefit will be a society that has improved mental health, and a stronger workforce because at the lower to medium skill jobs people will make a choice not just accept circumstance.

To hellfish's post about donating.
That was refreshing to see and something I had not considered. I like the idea that there are some out there who realise what they have is enough and would be willing to use this as an attempt to help lift others

Here are some tests Phil did playing with the voltage command. His best result would come in just under 1200w.

Honestly I wouldn't bank on using that psu, best grab something bigger so you don't have to worry, and can utilise the full hashrate.

Off topic a bit but does my sendable merit get replenished at some point?

No, you receive .5 smerit for every merit you are given. You can always apply to be a merit source in Meta should you want the opportunity to give out more.

Edit: sorry I'm on mobile but this topic covers merit info including source application

3109  Other / Meta / Re: My Bitcointalk account get banned without any reason. Please help !! on: August 08, 2018, 09:54:25 AM
When people are permabanned it should automatically state on their ban *Snip*
I suggested that little addition to the Ban form letter a while ago, but actually putting the reason. Not sure that it would stop the threads as the revelation is usually followed up with, "I promise to change" or "it will never happen again".

Ooops forgot to add "Sir"

I think I have only seen one instance where they actually did nothing, but that was a case of "framing" someone for the crime.

3110  Economy / Securities / Re: LoyceV's Legendary 10 Month 10 Person 10 Altcoin Investment Experiment: ROUND 2 on: August 08, 2018, 09:44:06 AM
I'm actually happier you chose this more convenient path. We all know the risks and I trust the other participants won't be coming at you with pitchforks if anything happens.

Pitchforks are so 18th Century Wink

@LoyceV
Just wondering while we wait. Will you be providing 1 funding address per exchange based on where our particular coin is traded? I get that fees are low right now but that does cut back on one extra transaction.

Or are we all funding 1 address and you will distribute accordingly? I'm fine with either just thought I'd ask while we wait for the Tardis to arrive.
3111  Other / Meta / Re: What is Going on With Old Thread? on: August 08, 2018, 07:40:42 AM
I can't say for sure but at that time I believe Satoshi was the Admin of the Forum as they created it.

Admins and moderators have the ability to edit posts for others. It can be to remove nested quotes/off-topic/ or merging multi posts.

You can see that the edit was at the bottom, so in this case it was to ad information to the OP

3112  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining Near Salt Water on: August 08, 2018, 07:11:05 AM
Here is a thread that I remember touched on it.

If you are close enough for salt to be an issue you are probably going to run into trouble as it will start to corrode everything. Maybe reach out to OP and see if they found a work around.
3113  Other / Meta / Re: Just a suggestion from a Member... on: August 08, 2018, 03:48:17 AM
Hey there,

You really have 2 posts here.

You will find the answer to why you could not reply here in the rules for Serious Discussion and Ivory Tower.

The second part doesn't belong in Meta, you could ask that in the Development & Technical Discussion

Not sure why but they do not all start with 1 or 3 anymore, some start with b. You've peaked my curiosity as I've started reading into more about the network and wallets recently for a better understanding.

Edit:
Sorry just realized you snuck a 3rd question there.

Why staff can manually whitelist or put some threshold earned Merit requirement for members who wish to post "Ivory tower" board. Because there are some members whose having lots of initial (airdropped) Merits, but doesn't interested to post those boards at all.
The board requirements are there to create a spam free environment where a higher level of discussion could take place. I haven't read much on the whitelist, try searching it to find some answers.

3114  Economy / Auctions / Re: 2450W Amitylabs Power supply (10x 6pin PCI Connectors) on: August 08, 2018, 03:38:38 AM

Thanks for the updates. My questions are answered. You may want to ad what time the auction ends. Most use the Forum time, So to me it appears that it would end in 2 days 20 hours and 25 minutes. Feel free to update it as you see fit.

The link is fine, as images don't show for Newbies. I checked it out.

My bid of .001BTC stands

3115  Economy / Auctions / Re: 2450W Amitylabs Power supply (10x 6pin PCI Connectors) on: August 08, 2018, 03:26:12 AM
Wow, must have been sitting in a box. That's the first PSU, I bought to mine with last year.

Can you give more details on the when purchased? Also just to confirm escrow is okay to confirm it works upon arrival? I see you say free shipping, this includes Canada? If so I agree that it will not need to be shipped priority if I win we can agree on a cheaper method as this will be a spare for me.

Assuming all of the above is correct:

I bid .001 BTC

Now, let's all just keep calm, and mine on!

We all have our rough edges. Let's keep the bigger picture in mind here, folks.

I doubt we'll be seeing any more of them.

Not exactly the best way to get information by walking into someones house, and talking shit about their interests. A slightly different approach and I'm positive Kano would have enlightened him on theings they didn't even realize they did not know. That's been my experience so far.
3117  Other / Meta / Re: What everyone thinks about buying & selling merits and ranked accounts ? on: August 08, 2018, 02:45:10 AM

The only thing we could do is to report those accounts.

Reputation <--- This is the ultimate solution, As you can see in the forum rules, Merit farmer and account buying is strictly prohibited in this forum.

Yes agreed report away so they can potentially be tagged in the future.

Neither of these offences is currently against the rules, but is discouraged. This will result in a red tag from DT, and rightly so.

18. Having multiple accounts and account sales are allowed, but account sales are discouraged.

3118  Other / Meta / Re: What everyone thinks about buying & selling merits and ranked accounts ? on: August 08, 2018, 02:31:41 AM
Wow you really should have just searched or read a thread in the last few pages.

Buying and selling Merit, is Merit abuse. At this point in time it isn't being tagged or punished, but people are still keeping track and should public opinion change their accounts will suffer. On the flip side of that Merit does not affect how you can use this Forum. You can post, learn, interact just fine without Merit. The only people crying about it want to earn a living here, by joining any SIG campaign they can; in short not here because of BTC but to earn BTC.

I disagree with account sales because you are essentially pretending to be someone else and this can have far reaching consequences, in trades or sales. Selling Merit or trading Merit is stupid, and if caught makes you look like an idiot who couldn't put a decent post together. Selling it whatever your an opportunist that doesn't care about cleaning up the forum, nothing I can do about that.
3119  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Discussion]How to decentralize the price of the bitcoin? Self-moderated. on: August 08, 2018, 02:08:18 AM
Tired to see only spammy mega-threads in the section that's why I'll try to start a normal one with this question.

If you think about it, the price is reflection of the bitcoin supply and demand based only on the available exchanges.
You can directly trade at whatever price you like.

Would't be better if the price reflects the real effort to "create" (mine) the bitcoin, or the effort to support the network like the electricity costs + hardware investments etc.
I agree with BTCJoe that the exchanges do not control the price. The fact that the value of BTC is calculated based on what it is bought/sold for on the exchanges makes sense. This is because you can clearly see what whas sent and what amount was paid for it by following the trade sheets. People use the exchanges for a sense of security, when converting their BTC which is true if you are smart about your use of exchanges.

Personally I feel it's better the equipment pricing reflect a weighted average of the BTC value. I feel this approach may have helped cast a wider net of small/medium farms and contributed to a decentralized network. Mind you this may not have mattered as we have currently seen with these early adopters using BTC as an intended currency they created certain behemoths controlling massive amount of hashpower.

Quote
This is innovative technology and is should not relay only on the "old traditions" of price forming, we need a new revolutionary way to balance it, *snip*
The whole idea of bitcoin is to be decentralize, but you have enough amount of bitcoins the price can easily be controlled.

Every time I've considered this I come back to why one issue. If BTC were not continuously valued against a FIAT pairing it would help push it towards a currency. I have long been a fan of the Barter system, it is at it's very core a decentralized unregulated system. The people involved decide value, and in the early stages could help in adoption and with adoption create an ecosystem of value centered around BTC

Thus far, Bitcoin's main attraction has invited mass introductions to new users due to price spikes. We've seen the little effect that current media and news has on the volatility of bitcoin as compared to years past.

Yes I think the two have something to do with each other. The volatility has brought in the "short term trader", who was already doing this so why not try with BTC. They aren't here to understand anything beyond the value of BTC and how to exploit it. This brought in more people from all walks of life, they approach with the same attitude towards BTC. The FOMO definitely had a lot to do with the media representation as it drove more and more people into the network, but not because there was news but due to visibility, it was a space filler for the network and at the time the price was driving high. So negative news I thin kmay prevent someone from jumping on board, but I don't think many people understand the nuances of what the news means for BTC.

Quote
I honestly believe that volatility will always be the name of the game with Bitcoin until more people start utilizing it. We are still far from mass adoption, and because of that, there are individuals and institutions that are able to manipulate the price. Those are the types of people that were just trying to get rich quick.

I feel the volatility is good for driving people to use BTC as a currency, but I worry it prevents larger businesses from adopting it in day to day use. I think it works great for a medium to small sized business as they can cash out at days end should they choose. Possibly with more businesses in that range creating a wider network for its use the price can lose some of it's volatility for larger non crypto businesses to adopt.
3120  Other / Meta / Re: message i didnt understand on: August 08, 2018, 01:26:29 AM
I don't think they brought back the newbie jail. That was a board I think they used to be restricted to.

This is restrictions on how often you can post or PM, I assume in an effort to stifle spam bots. It's kind of like getting a beginner's driver's license, then having the restrictions lifted after some time.
