3141  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Effects of Greed in Gambling on: August 09, 2021, 12:52:17 PM
gambling is a way of making passive income well the both are right but how we handle our responsibility matter in our entire well-being.
Passive income is "doing nothing" by its definition. If you get some income via gambling, it's still active income (even if you use auto play feature). Passive income in gambling is when you invest in the house bankroll.

Gambling is the "game of greed." Without greed, there's no gambling.

Wait I'm confused, how is gambling considered as 'passive income' ? You are literally engaging yourself against the odds without any guarantee of income on your part. Gambling cannot be, and will never be, considered as passive income (unless you are the owner of the gambling website/establishment).

Gambling is indeed, the game of greed. Without any self-discipline and control, one would have to suffer the consequences of losing all of their resources. Like what most have mentioned, greed is what calls the gambler on getting stuck on the gambler's cycle.
3142  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why buy bitcoins and not altcoins? on: August 08, 2021, 04:31:25 PM
I have seen a lot of opinions about not buying altcoins and always holding bitcoins before registering.

But is there a kind of data to support this? Please don’t just experience it----every time Bitcoin falls, there will be a new ATH to explain.

There are lots of altcoins present in the market. The reason on why they are called 'altcoins' is because they are alternative coins other than Bitcoin! The problem with most altcoins is that their market value and market cap are larger compared to bitcoin's cap (21 million). In addition, the price of BTC is significantly high that most people prefer to invest on the latter either for short/long-term.

It's like, why invest in silver if there is gold? Though there are cases that investing in silver is better, the general rule is that investing into BTC can either make or break your investment.
3143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Exposed to children on: August 08, 2021, 04:17:46 PM

How would you keep your kid effectively from watching shit stuff on Youtube? I can tell you that's impossible, and if the kid doesn't use its own iPad, it might already hold yours in its hand. It is really difficult to exclude videos you deem bad for your kid. There is all kinds of stuff on the platform and they already know the tricks how to get the stuff rolling on the iPad that they want.

Keeping your child away from gadgets is impossible if from time to time the kid always see his/her parents holding gadgets. I never want to admit it but I think having a kid today can't be a kid like us on our generation. Today, raising a child while exposing him/her in technology is inevitable since this is what they will going to see when they going outside their home, watching videos on youtube became a way to entertain a child. Not all the time it is bad to exposed a child in technology but the strong parental guidance is strongly advice.
Yeah, most kids nowadays rely on gadgets; their recreational activities are now centered on gadgets, and the majority of kid shows are available on YouTube. Because we can't really defeat children's curiosity, it's entirely possible that they will discover gambling activities in some gadgets. Most of the kids right now are exposed to technology, it's true, you can see everywhere that many kids aren't really playing outside now to enjoy, most are on devices.

The question is, how do you draw the line between children being exposed to gambling and YouTube ads that primarily give income to YouTubers? I find it very difficult on how it could be balanced out completely since the modern age of technology has pushed children to excel at using gadgets. Given the current circumstances also due to COVID, almost all children use gadgets for their entertainment (rather than playing outside with friends, etc.) which puts them more at the risk of knowing gambling.

At this point, the intervention of parents is highly recommended in order to at least safeguard the rights and welfare of these children. Once they get exposed to gambling and their curiosity enabled them to try it, it could seriously transition to addiction.
3144  Economy / Economics / Re: Have you been grateful for today? on: August 08, 2021, 03:55:25 PM
I just opened Facebook and read a short, but meaningful post. in the post it says

Quote
A mountain of gold would not be enough for a greedy person.
But, a plate of food is enough for a grateful person

I ponder when I do daily trading in the crypto market, I often get profit even though it is not too much, But I am always annoyed and irritated if the profit I get is not on target. I forgot to be grateful and hopefully, I can be a grateful person even though I get a little profit from crypto trading.

Well I do understand your mindset especially if a person has the obligation to make ends meet.

On the other side of the spectrum, there are also some people who, unfortunately, tend to take for granted all the small battles they have won. For example, like what you experienced, a small profit in trading is a profit! Rather than experiencing a loss, some people tend to trade again since they cannot seem to accept a small profit on their end.

I do like the quote that you shared. Not only does it apply to cryptocurrencies but it speaks on a larger experience where you should appreciate all the things that you have since others do not have the privilege of having the same experience/things that you have.
3145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think will happen to Bitcoin in 100 years? on: August 08, 2021, 03:33:11 PM
in the next 100 years, i guess Bitcoin will still remain as top 1 among other coins. Our technology is fastly moving and many more people will patronize digital currencies because of its good store of value. Many will be interested about cryptocurrencies.

A hundred years from now, I do think that BTC may still reign as the number one cryptocurrency but there are certain indicators that could prove otherwise.

Remember that BTC is powered through the blockchain technology. Since it has been previously mentioned and estimated that by the year 2030 all BTCs would be mined, then expect its price to skyrocket further. That is why, lots of people are inclined in HODLing for long-term investment, taking advantage of its high volatility.

As I just mentioned, if assuming that BTC survives a hundred years more (assuming that countries still accept BTC, etc.), then it could still be the number 1 cryptocurrency.
3146  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What does it take for a game to "hook" people on: August 08, 2021, 12:29:39 PM
A hook in a game that is fair, the one that you can verify if it is fair or not, the reason is it can be used by all of the games. Dice game, roulette, card games and slots all of them can use provably fair system which I do like the most and some of the gambling sites add good graphic design to these games which it makes more interesting.
we can loose often if the gambling place is not fair and loosing does not makes us comeback or hook in the game .
its an advantage if the casino has a provably fair system because we can check the results of our bets if the site is fair of not   .
graphics can lure gamblers  but too much quality graphics could cause issues or lags when you gamble depending on the device you use.

The graphic quality, legitimacy, and popularity with good reviews are the things that I always look for in gambling sites. As for me, a good reputation will also hook lots of players. Bonuses and promotions are also a good strategy for them to get more players.

I do think that more on the graphics, the overall interface where you could communicate with other people also matter. But the most important thing in managing a gambling website is the customer service communication. Without any proper customer service, all the queries or problems that are related to depositing/withdrawing funds would go unnoticed.

Like what you also mentioned, a good reputation is essential to a gambling website. To be honest, if the website is also advertised here in the forum, you can at least be comfortable with their legitimacy (exception would be 1-bit lmao).
3147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper money vs Digital currency on: August 07, 2021, 05:24:47 PM
This question has been answered several times already and the answer is the same. Paper money would still be relevant in the years to come since it has been widely acknowledged by all countries as the main form of legal tender. While there may be countries that still practice 'barter system' of transactions, fiat is still the main currency which is used in all transactions involving payment.

Digital currency, on the other hand, will be the next generation of transactions in the FAR future. Since underdeveloped countries struggle to adapt technologically, they are the ones who would be hindered assuming that most developed countries shift to the idea of implementing digital currency.

Bottomline, both have their own respective use and convenience but its wide scale implementation will happen in the far future.
3148  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: signs of gambling addiction on: August 07, 2021, 04:58:47 PM

I see one reasonable option for spending such a large part of income on gambling - if a person has huge savings and current income does not have much influence on his life, then if he wants, he can even spend 100 percent on gambling. All other options look dubious to me, although I am not saying that this is an addiction, just a wrong decision (in my subjective opinion).

Only those person who has a huge savings and current income are for sure who has also the guts to over spend or lets say it is only a part of their excess money. For them it was an excess money but for us or personally speaking for me a 20% of income to allot for my entertainment or gambling activities is such a huge amount. We may take over spending as gambling addiction which is definitely true but for me I look for myself a sign of not having a good sleep at night while keep on thinking of my gambling activities.

The general rule is that, only gamble away the money that you are willing to spend on. If you rely on gambling as a means for a source of income, then chances are that you would lose more money on the process.

Remember that if you rely on a source of income that is measured by odds and risks, then there can be no absolute stable flow of income on your end. You would end up having to bet more than you actually planned for which can result in accumulation of long term debts.
3149  Economy / Economics / Re: COVID advanced the world into the future on: August 07, 2021, 03:41:59 PM
I am talking about the digital revolution that was already taking place, yet still had some bumps along the road to occur, and has been forcefully implemented by many companies that required their people to keep on working. I am also talking about the immense number of new influencers and subscription services that had increased their adept several times-fold. All this would have taken ages otherwise.

I definitely agree with your statement.

With the COVID pandemic challenging almost all business sectors, most companies have literally no choice but to adapt measures that would still retain or improve their efficiency in the business. Thus, some companies have adopted lots of innovations such as providing digital services or teleconsults. Since it has been proven that some countries can retain this type of virtual service, we could expect that in the next few years, more digitalized innovations would be implemented.
3150  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me differentiate this thought, teach a man how to fish or give him Bitcoin. on: August 07, 2021, 03:16:45 PM
What the meme is saying 'Give a man Bitcoin and he'll be feed for centuries' should this be the case, why isn't it publicizing teaching about bitcoin and feeding the man for lifetime or is there something that I'm missing here?.

This depends though. Like what others have already mentioned, even if you give someone free BTCs, it is still their responsibility on how to utilize it. Others may sell it at a lower price from the time they acquired it and some may sell it at a higher price which gives them profit at the end.

It's not just Bitcoin, you could give someone a house (assuming it's in a prime location) and no doubt the price will appreciate over the years. But without learning the process of earning enough money to buy one, how does one understand the hardship and the taste of success?

As an analogy to the original bible verse, it's like you're giving away $40,000 worth of free fish to a person. But if he fails to utilize each piece (i.e. preserving the rest for future use), the value overall would decrease- that is why you have to be smart with all the investments that you acquire.
3151  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: (Olympics Boxing) Carlo Paalam vs Galal Yafai (Fight for Gold Medal) on: August 07, 2021, 01:09:13 PM
I think the government by now should know what sports disciple to develop moving forward to the next Olympics.
Yeah, I agree on this. Instead of giving pledges to the Olympics winner why not increase the allocated budget for atlethes and construct different sports facilities for atlethes training so that they can flourish there skills properly. Philippines is good on boxing, weightlifting and other power sports because Filipino has natural talent on it. I hope the next President will gonna do it considering how impressive the performance of there atlethes.

I believe this thread is already concluded and need to be lock.

Okay, I will lock it but will give 24 hours to hear other posters opinion.

Before that, allow me to say my congratulations to Carlo Paalam though he loses in the gold medal match.
I'm a bit disappointed too as I lose my bet, but at the same time, I feel happy because he brings honor to our country.

until next time, with the remaining athletes in the Olympics, I don't expect they'll bring a medal.

I watched the game in my TV and saw the whole fight. Man, it was really heartbreaking to see Paalam fell on the first round due to the 3-punch combination that caught him off guard on the ropes. Though I do believe that the second round belongs to Paalam, the judges thought otherwise. On the third and final round, I was really hoping that Paalam would knockout Yafai but the latter played it very conservatively and safely.

Imagine, Carlo Paalam is only 23 years old and he marched his way toward to Silver. I am very excited to see the future of other sports as well because this olympics is a testament that the Philippines can excel at any sport.
3152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin worth so much? on: August 06, 2021, 04:49:28 PM
Many other cryptocurrencies have been improved upon based on Bitcoin. In other words, Bitcoin must be inferior to them, but why is Bitcoin's value number one by far?
Why is Bitcoin worth so much? Huh

Like gold, it depends on the price that people are willing to actually pay for it. In addition, its scarcity and limited number (21 million) makes it more valuable that other cryptocurrencies in the market.

Remember that what drives the market price on a product is the law on supply and demand. The demand on BTC is so much that people are willing to purchase it at a higher price. The reason is because of its high volatility which make it the perfect investment instrument for either short or long-term.

According to some speculations, it is to be speculated that the very last bitcoin may be mined on the year 2140- that is why save your BTCs everyone!
3153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol on: August 06, 2021, 03:25:51 PM

How many more year Canelo is planning to be in business? I think it is time for him to retire (not because of age, but because there are no more strong opponents left) or move to other division.

I don't think he should, he is on top of his game and he is just starting out you are the only one who thinks he should, I still love to see Canelo Alvarez fight, there's a lot of science on how he fought, there's still a lot of money to be made and at the same time making himself great and setting more records.

Ever since his loss with Mayweather, Canelo has been dominating the middleweight class on his own. He improved so much and learned from that fight alone which makes him a very dangerous opponent to anything.

To be honest, I do think that Canelo is still in his prime. His destructive raw power and skill can outclass any opponent on his weight division which puts him at the top middleweight fighters of all time.

Compared to the fight of Pacquiao, I am more confident seeing Canelo win against this match; thus, I'll be betting on this fight 100%.
3154  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What motivates you to start investing in cryptocurrency? on: August 06, 2021, 11:55:52 AM
A year ago I had a friend who talked about cryptocurrency and checked the news about cryptocurrency on YouTube and various websites. At the time, I didn't know what cryptocurrency was and was very skeptical.
In the past few months, I saw a lot of news about profiting from investing in cryptocurrencies, and I also saw a store that indicated that it was possible to pay with Bitcoin.I became interested in it, so I asked that friend to leave the knowledge about cryptocurrency as a hobby investment.
How did you start investing in cryptocurrency?

My close friend in college was the one who introduced me to this forum. Apparently, he gave me the idea that it is possible to earn cash online (I was very skeptical about it). When I found out that BTCs can be converted to cash, I immediately read about it and did research about its history, etc.

What drives me more to invest and save my BTCs is its high volatility. Just by looking on its price, you can see the upward trend. Though many people have been trading cryptocurrencies, I see this more as a long-term investment where I would perhaps cash them out 5-10 years from now.
3155  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr - August 21 on: August 06, 2021, 08:06:19 AM
If Pacquiao has the most important advantage, why isn't he the favorite in this fight? Bookmakers are ready to answer with money for their analysis and they give a clear preference to Spence.
Sometimes I am very sorry that in sports we always see single results and cannot assess the overall picture. Sometimes a random event happens, but in the absence of others, we recognize it as natural. I think if Pacquiao wins it will be something similar.

Pacman is the underdog because Errol Spence is younger, bigger, stronger and Pacman has not been active in boxig after his fight versus Keith Thruman. Spence is also presently higher than Pacman in the best boxer pound for pound rankings.

However, you question Pacman’s speed hehe. You can watch Pacman’s heavy bag training on youtube and compare this with Spence heavy bag training.

The speed of working on a heavy bag is very dependent on the impact force you put into it. I think I can’t appreciate it from the video. In addition, watching the video will not give an answer about what state the boxers will be in on the day of the fight (it is always easier for the young to prepare, so Spence has an advantage here too).

You also have to remember that Spence will be coming from an injury due to the car cash that happened last 2019.

Regardless, based on numbers alone, the fact still remains that Spence is younger and bigger. But against Pacquiao, who is also a southpaw, and has tremendous experience in fighting, I do think that he has the edge here. His skill, knowledge, and speed can literally dominate Spence in the ring. Most fighters that fought Pacquiao underestimated his speed and they only acknowledged it after their respective defeats.
3156  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: has anyone here in profit after gambling ??? on: August 05, 2021, 04:00:35 PM
We all heard that every one looses at the end in gambling....yes we may win here and there...we may win some big amounts but overall in long term we always end up in loss....this is the story with me as well overall i am in big loss....
I just want to know is any one here in this forum who is in overall profit in gambling...

Based on my personal experience, my dad used to engage in cockfighting in our country and so far, he has profited on his games. My grandfather used to own a cockfarm in our province and they used to train chickens there for the sport.

On the other hand, my brother, who I used to accompany a lot in physical casinos, lost lots of money during his gambling spree. He brought me with him since I was supposed to stop him from gambling beyond his budget- which proved to be futile at the end.
3157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What hatred do people have for Bitcoin? on: August 05, 2021, 03:29:13 PM
The hatred coming from Bitcoin came from people who invested to it without any prior knowledge or whatsoever. Unfortunately, they are the ones who invested because someone just told them so without even knowing the technology behind it.

Remember the crash in the last quarter of 2018? Prior to that, the price of BTC was around $4,000. On the last quarter of 2018, its price skyrocketed up to $18,000 and people joined the bandwagon. When its price dropped on the first quarter of 2019, people who lost on the investment started rumours about it being a 'bubble', thus the hatred starting.

I think one of the reasons some people hate bitcoin is the first thing they heard about bitcoin for instance in my country when the trade was ban it was linked to some people killing themselves all because they want to have access to bitcoin and it was all preached against so during this period for a first-timer this knowledge will definitely change it.

People associate BTCs with lots of negativity due to media and how the latter presents it. Lots of renowned investors and banks also shared their opinions about BTC being a 'bubble' which contributed to the overall stigma.
3158  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it easier to HODL if you are already rich? on: August 05, 2021, 01:05:04 PM
For someone with let´s say, a net worth of 1M USD or more plus house, hodling 60k until they became 6M would have been not that much of an stress. Do you think it was easier to benefit economically from bitcoin if you were already a bit up in the ladder?

This is relatively true since the financial condition of a person makes him at least comfortable with his investments.

Compared to people who live in the middle to lower class, people who are up in the ladder have the financial security and blanket in case their investments fail. People under the middle class struggle relatively with their finances and investments to the point that one failed investment can put them in financial jeopardy.

There is, however, an exception to this rule. People who live in the middle class may set aside a specific amount of money primarily for their investments to the point that assuming that it failed, it will not affect them totally.
3159  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: (Olympics Boxing) Carlo Paalam vs Ryomei Tanaka on: August 05, 2021, 07:08:12 AM
Just saw the latest result and Carlo Paalam won the match against the Japanese Ryomei Tanaka. Congratulation to Carlo Paalam for winning the Semi-Final match, advancing to the Finals, and a chance to get the Olympic gold medal.

also, Congrats to anyone who made a bet in favor of Carlo Paalam.

LOL, I'm just gonna comment about betting for the Japanese Boxer but hey, Winning via unanimous decision against the hometown bet Ryomei Tanaka is a very impressive achievement for Carlos Paalam, Looks like a second Gold Medal for the Philippines is almost since he already beat the previous medal holder on there class. Philippines should increase budget for athletes that competing the Olympics next time considering there performance rn.

Any win via unanimous decision is already a major accomplishment but winning against a Japanese boxer in their hometown is just a spectacular achievement on its own! Now, since Carlo Paalam has a guaranteed Silver Medal, I do hope that he brings home the gold on his next match.

I just find it very interesting that most olympians that represented the Philippines brought home a medal. This is indeed, the golden age of our country in this year's olympics. I do hope that in the 2024 Olympics, the Philippines' government support its athletes for more medals in the future.
3160  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Small capital and Big capital on: August 02, 2021, 10:34:18 PM
For me, small capital and big capital are both useless if the one who's holding it will just invest or trade recklessly if the person who is holding it will invest it in a coin without any knowledge or doing any research about it. It is about the person who is going to make it happen and not about the capital because any capital will do as long as you are good.

I kinda disagree with your statement.

I think the key factor in trading/investing is knowing which coin to invest on. From this alone, this implies endless amounts of research on the part of the investor since the goal here is to reduce the risks of the possibility of losing your investment. Regardless if you have a small or a big capital, your mindset should always stay the same.

Obviously, the more your capital, the less market volatility will affect you, but your waste and risks increase in proportion to the amount of funds.

For example, with a large deposit, you can lose a lot of money on commissions, and with a bad market, you will lose a lot on transactions.

In general, large deposits are not for beginners.

I think it also depends on the individual's capital to begin with. Personally, there are some people that I know who are beginners but they started trading/investing with a large capital. But like what I previously mentioned, it required them to study and to research about the market situation in order to reduce the possibility of losing their investment for short-term.
