2681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How reasonable is it to invest in Bitcoin in the current situation? on: November 26, 2021, 05:22:03 PM
At the end of the year, we do not see much progress in the market. The market is still in a correction mode. Meanwhile, the market has been in the same position for a few days. How reasonable do you think investing in Bitcoin now in this situation?

Currently, the price of BTC dropped significantly starting from $60,000 to only $54,000. As someone who HODLs my BTC for long-term gains (around 5-10 years), it is definitely a reasonable time for me to invest and purchase more in order to maximize my earnings. Since we all know that the price of BTC increases every time there is a fork, it is no-brainer for me to invest and purchase more.

Though this depends on your goal on your investments, generally I would definitely recommend to invest more for long-term gains.
2682  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] World Championship 2021: Carlsen Vs. Nepomniachtchi on: November 26, 2021, 04:57:47 PM
So game 1 just ended and it is expected that it would end up with a draw. It was an interesting match though especially around in move 10-13 where Nepo was surprised with that rook to b8 move. He definitely fell into the preparation of magnus where they played the Spanish opening with black a pawn down. But the pawn structures of black were connected and strong.

Like what they always say in end games, it is the quality of pawns (vs quantity) that wins games. But Nepo managed to draw the game due to a three-fold repetition. I definitely can't wait for game 2 tomorrow!
2683  Economy / Economics / Re: Can civilization revert to a barter system on: November 26, 2021, 04:35:15 PM
Could a barter system be a worthwhile form of trade past the year 2022. Perhaps the next big leap forward will be a retro move backward into the past.

I would not count on its possibility given the complexity of barter in its application.

While on paper barter may seem harmless, there are tons of implications with knowing the value of 'barter' in the exchange of goods. Barter system can be difficult in ascertaining its value on the market given that there is no way of knowing the 'standard' prize of goods. In addition, it is also susceptible of scam where a person may trade something that he does not own (e.g. only a possessor of the thing and not the owner thereof).

This may give rise to legal complications that could easily be avoided if were the standard of exchange is fiat!
2684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Facts about gambling addiction on: November 26, 2021, 09:04:57 AM
Based from the data and information gathered, we can safely conclude that gambling is another form of addiction which can be associated with other types of addiction as well. Unfortunately, people who gamble are also the ones who are heavily dependent on alcohol and nicotine usage which further affects their livelihood in terms of allocating their expenses to their daily needs.

Gambling is another platform which enables other addiction to rise as well. With the number of people who gamble everyday, it further attracts almost everyone to at least try or attempt them into winning huge amounts of sum in a big amount of risk as well.
2685  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Childrens Wallets on: November 25, 2021, 04:10:12 PM
No, even DEX exchange we dont know when the site becomes shutdown, IMO, isn't a good idea to save your Bitcoin for a long time purpose there.
You can create a paper wallet or a Hardware wallet and here is a [BIG LIST] Hardware wallets (80+), either Ledger or Trezor which are very common to use.

In crypto, we have an important rule to follow in order for your coin to be safe for a long time (Not your key Not your coin), that key means your private key which is you are the only one who controls it and no one will access it.  Saving Bitcoin on exchange isn't a good idea at all.

I am somehow guilty with this especially on the last paragraph you pointed out.

As someone who started with the world of cryptocurrencies last 2017, I mainly deposit almost all of my earnings to our local exchange which is recognized here in the country. While I do acknowledge the convenience it provides (e.g. direct bank transfer, credits, exchanges, etc.), the best way to really secure my funds is by transferring them to a hardware wallet. I might actually check those out with the link that you provided- got me really curious as to how these hardware wallets function.
2686  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: government's traditional laws can't handle Gambling+cryptos on: November 25, 2021, 03:58:12 PM
The regulatory framework for cryptos is a nightmare for many governments and the main reason for that is that cryptos were in the first place conceived to break the government monopoly and control over money. The fact that they find difficult to control crypto sites and crypto movements in general is just a confirmation of the success of the original vision and strategy. Gambling is just and example.

Also, legislation has always been quite slow on regards to newer technologies.

I somehow understand regarding implementing laws to prohibit cryptocurrencies, in general.

Due to its immense potential to a country, it would be relatively difficult to find that balance where you regulate gambling + cryptocurrencies and its effects on the society. Like what you also mentioned, cryptocurrencies were created primarily against any control from the government. The fact that only a handful of legislations were implemented speak about the status of cryptocurrencies in general!
2687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] World Championship 2021: Carlsen Vs. Nepomniachtchi on: November 22, 2021, 05:33:34 PM
It's also the first time I've seen it, and I love watching these tournaments.
At school I was always the boy who preferred to be in a corner playing a game of chess than playing or doing some physical exercise. It's a game that captivates me a lot and professional players like Magnus Carlsen have always been my encouragement.

Obviously my bet will be on Carlsen.

I'm maybe sole person here in this thread who were not that passionate about this game, I mean I didn't even try to play this game, I don't know the basic rule about this game and yeah this is also the first time I have read a thread that was created intended for Chess Game solely, and even I am not that fan of Chess it's nice seeing this kind of thread here in forum. I know this type of game is for intelligent and critical thinker that's why I think I'm not belong to this game, kidding aside. However, upon researching about the player involve I do also think that Carlsen has the advantage over Nepomniachtchi.

It is not that chess is for 'intelligent' and 'critical thinkers' as anyone can play the game as long as you know the moves of each pieces! The advantage of playing chess stems from your cognitive abilities and concentration as it really is mentally tiring to calculate 4-5 moves ahead from your next move. While most sports are physical in nature, chess is the game of mental strength and fortitude as chess players play more than 7 hours per game depending on the time format (e.g. classical, rapid, bullet, etc.).

I have been playing chess ever since I was still in grade school but I still consider myself as someone who is still a newbie at the game due to its complexity and techniques involved. The fact that chess has been getting its recognition slowly over the years is definitely a step forward on its community.
2688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 41% of people globally say they trust Bitcoin over local currencies on: November 22, 2021, 05:12:49 PM
Premise (a crowdsourced insights company) reported in a press release that 41% of respondents consider Bitcoin to be more reliable than their own local currencies.  Shocked

Those numbers actually seem pretty high to me. Many people don't even know enough about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, much less about their security or reliability. We still have a long way to go before people are comfortable with the concept of decentralized currencies, something they have never experienced before.

Unfortunately, lots of people nowadays do not research about the nature and history of BTC before they invest. Like they blindly invest into something due to the hype on how it is portrayed on the media. Then when the price of it decreases (due to volatility), they will be the ones who will spread the news on how investing into BTC is a 'scam' as they will now proceed to spread false information as to such.

41% is indeed high for people to favor cryptocurrencies against their local currency. Given the fact that the value of the former is inflationary due to its limited supply, it has its fair share of negative consequences if it were to be considered as the 'main currency' of every country.
2689  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: betting online cockfight has become the new pandemic on: November 22, 2021, 04:38:38 PM
government is also earning from these betting firms which is why its becoming a usual to approve bills.
should the government risk the teens today knowing that cockfighting arenas can routinely operate everyday online?

I do think it is imperative to address the issue of online gambling. Given the fact that the government had acknowledged that it affected the community due to its highly-addictive 50/50 chance of winning, it is inevitable for law makers to notice such problem.

Anything that helps address the issue of gambling is definitely welcomed. Rather than the lawmakers being silent on this issue, any initiative combating such addiction may at least help our fellow citizens on being aware on it. One suggestion that I could think of is to increase the tax on these establishments and regulate them further so people would somehow think before they engage into such.
2690  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs. Ilunga Makabu on: November 22, 2021, 03:43:15 PM
And by the way, I just checked and see the odds are already available, and it favors on Canelo.
Quote
Canelo Alvarez vs Ilunga Makabu Odds
Boxer   Odds
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez   -700
Ilunga Makabu   +500
https://bettinginsiderjournal.com/boxing/canelo-alvarez-vs-ilunga-makabu-odds/

Damn, those odds are definitely attractive. I might actually pull the plug and gamble against Canelo in this case. While I do understand that Canelo is undisputed the greatest boxer in his weight division, increasing it more and fighting boxers in CW may pose some danger given the fact that this would be the first time that he will be doing this.

Though the Canelo's fight against Caleb Plant showed on how dominant he can be in the ring, fighting a boxer in CW is one of those fights that one punch could seal the deal to either boxers. Due to this factor and the odds, I would vote against Canelo and for Makabu.

2692  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Need advice regarding buying on: November 22, 2021, 03:09:46 PM
Sometimes it happens that altcoins are more profitable than Bitcoin, nor to deny that. Like investing coins that are in hypes gives us x2, x3, multiple times in general, and that is good.
The chance of you from getting profit x2 or more is the same chance or more to getting loss. Unless you're investing alts that were established already, like those top 20 coins listed on cmc. BNB is more impressive coin to invest either in short term or long term. For eth it should be in long term.

The chance of profiting from altcoins is relatively the same in BTC. The difference is, the former has a bigger chance of flopping due to its uncertainty and longevity. Bitcoin, on the other hand, has proven its dominance on the market over the course of its years. Though its price may be volatile, the amount of security that you get is somehow higher compared to alts.

Though I do agree that if you invest into the top 10-20 altcoins, there may be a chance of doubling your investments. But of course, everything is a double-edged sword- either you win or you lose.

2694  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: November 22, 2021, 01:02:51 PM
The game between GSW vs Toronto Raptors showed the deep development of the bench of the former. Poole and Wiggins are those players that definitely stepped-up on their recent games. While I had my doubts on Wiggins, his continuous and consistent scoring games made me think otherwise on the past statements that I mentioned. Those two players had a combined score of 65, in which Curry was feeding the ball to them.

The game between Lakers vs Pistons was also a controversial one, due to the fact that Lebron somehow elbowed Stewart on his eye. I kinda got scared that it might be the Malice in the Palace 2.0 but officials know what they are doing now to prevent another disaster from rising.
2695  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] World Championship 2021: Carlsen Vs. Nepomniachtchi on: November 21, 2021, 10:47:23 PM
I am not a pro chess player but I do know how to play a little and I want to see how they play and calculate every move. I guess many people will bet once the match begin and I think most will bet on carlsen. If I have time to bet then I would bet on carlsen too. Given the odds, it's kind of small compare to the challenger.

these calculations and surprise plays are the most amazing things
I'm always impressed how pro players can calculate all the possibilities and even more than 5 stages ahead, when I play my max is 2 or 3 movements but more than that starts to make entanglements on my brain

These GMs have a different calculation speed on their own- like it is really out of this world on how they can calculate 5-6 moves ahead than any of normal players, even 2000+ rated ones also.

The difference between a 2600 rated GM against a 2700 GM is staggering. This has been continuously witnessed on Agadmator's channel on FB where the top 20 chess players went again 2600 GMs and the latter got completely destroyed.

Magnus Carlsen, on the other hand, has a different feel in chess- like it is his natural instincts to play those moves. I really suggest that you watch him play bullet chess in lichess (tons of videos on YouTube) where you can see their calculation speed and pattern recognition.
2696  Other / Meta / Re: Can a permanent ban be reconsidered on: November 21, 2021, 10:16:27 PM
I remember a few years ago, there was a ban wave that banned most of the accounts (even high-ranking ones) due to plagiarism. While some asked for an appeal, many were left unheeded. Most of the cases that got appealed were accounts who made a contribution to the forum and the ban that they received were switched to temporary bans (e.g. signature ban for a year, etc.).

Bottomline is, bans are considered in a case-to-case basis depending on the amount of contribution you made to the forum. While the admins have the discretion whether to allow it or not, if you break forum rules then you suffer the consequences of your actions.
2697  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: November 21, 2021, 09:48:16 PM
Now ,a serious question for F1 fans. What would've happen if Prime Lewis would fight Prime Max ? I think Lewis would beat him 9 out of 10. What this means ? It means that Max is fighting and old Lewis already and he barely can move a finger on him. Lewis is the goat , even if we like it or not.

It is just so crazy to see that Lewis still manages to snag majority of the victories despite some heavy setbacks this season. Even if he is considered old, if Max were to race against a prime Lewis, I do agree that the latter would win 9 out of 10 times.

I am just happy to see Alonso back on the podium. As far as I can remember, the last time Alonso went on the podium was like 8-9 years ago around 2013? He managed to defend his position very well despite some pressure coming from Checo. With all the punctures happening, this was definitely a good race to witness!
2698  Economy / Economics / Re: Permanent inflation or "just temporary" on: November 21, 2021, 04:13:28 PM
I think inflation is a permanent existence in society and influences people under the influence of the whole process.  How to combat that and the wear and tear of human labor that is losing practical value, bitcoin is a miracle to help people close this inflationary gap.  Fluctuating inflation rates increase the risk of an outbreak of hyperinflation.  Fuel, food will increase massively by the end of the year?  and always, my usual way of thinking is that it won't go away when we don't try to change to get over it.  The support of bitcoin is gaining meaning if more people take the risk to support it.
right, inflation will always continue to increase, so that fiat money seems to start to lose its value, and this is proven by the increasingly expensive prices of necessities, and of course it will increase the burden on the community to get a decent life. on the other hand bitcoin offers freedom from inflation, but the basic thing that is used as a reason for the government is because of its uncontrollable nature

In economics, inflation is not always a negative/bad thing as long as it is controlled around 2-3% in the country. If the inflation rate exceeds the desired amount, then that would disrupt the economy making prices higher while the value of fiat decreasing.

In the nature of cryptocurrencies (specifically BTC), inflation is bound to happen due to its limited supply in the market. To somehow counter this, forks happen which reduces the denomination of the rewards granted when mining. This is why every fork, prices of BTC increases in order for its 21 million supply to reach relatively slower.
2699  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is for Holders! on: November 21, 2021, 03:14:09 PM
Bitcoin is any time to changing the price. So Bitcoin holders check the marketplace price day by day. Then plan to invite and time to acct that time. So Bitcoin holders hold the Bitcoin long time and wait for the price increase. Price will be down that time trading the Bitcoin. Bitcoin holders understand the marketplace price.

It depends actually on the goal of the person HODLing BTCs either for short or long-term.

Bitcoin was created with a vision of having to transact in a public ledger without the need of any third-party consensus. Since every transaction involves a PoW system where it verifies past transaction to validate it, it prevents any malicious scams or anything whatsoever. It just so happened that its price significantly increased on the market that people are taking advantage of its volatility.
2700  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Share your betslip here and inspired the gambling community. on: November 21, 2021, 01:21:41 PM
Being an active member who usually visits and posts on gambling boards, I can help but notice posts related to "gambling addiction" which results in deeper problems, so I'm thinking, how about let's share some positive vibes by sharing our winning bet slips here so they will also think that we can actually win in gambling.

I suggest that you share your personal betslip and maybe put some remarks/explanation on how and when you won it, that way you can always come back here and reminisce about our success in this long journey.

As much as I respect the intention behind this post, sharing one's betslip may yield to a result which is opposite on what is originally intended.

As most users have expressed their willingness to share their respective betslips, they also understand the implication of such act. To be honest, if I were a gambler and I would see tons of betslips with winning odds plus their respective amounts, this would further boost my addiction and thus sparking my interest again in gambling. Again, sharing betslips may yield to a result which is opposite to what is intended.
