Honestly the best you can do is not sweat it... until it becomes a burden.

I wasn't around back then but a lot of the miners we have been getting advice from here mined at a loss for quite some time.

In these instances it sucks because it's a long hold on the idea the price will climb, or the shutdown of equipment until its profitable.

Just consider a half sell and a half hold so that you bring in a bit of coin to help but have your price jump prize.

I won't lie I have been side mining a coin I think has real legs and thats where I moved my coins to hold out the storm. Still a big gamble but we all have to come up with what we think is a winning strategy.
3442  Other / Meta / Re: Need a forum for merit? on: June 08, 2018, 12:30:01 AM

I don't.

What's to stop someone from creating a "Vod" account there, claiming to be me, and begging others for merit?  The effects would be felt on my account here.  Sad

I believe such satellite communities should use this (bitcointalk) user database.  That's the way I'm planning BPIP.

Sorry I couldn't find the method to add *seething with sarcasm* to my post.

[sarcasm=seething][/sarcasm]

I'll try this next time.

And there is only one true VOD; all imposters will be dealt with harshly Grin
3443  Other / Meta / Re: Need a forum for merit? on: June 07, 2018, 03:58:28 PM
I think Merittalk.org would be great.

We could convince these people to go there and seek the wealth of Merit and the advantages of spending or Hodling. While were at it move the bounty campaigns and really clear things out.

Unfortunately that won't happen and people will continue to create multiple repeats of this same topic to no end.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0

This is where people post their public address to have it quoted and saved to the forum.

You then need to sign a message to try and recover a hacked account in this format

Honestly though it is taking people a crazy long time to recover hacked accounts so best to be cautious to avoid being hacked.
3445  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] T9+ under warranty [Still available] on: June 06, 2018, 02:57:46 PM
I'm looking to sell my T9+ US or Canada buyer
I will also include a 100$ bitmain coupon - Expires July 31, 2018

asking .06 .047 BTC or equivalent LTC . OBO
Shipping included. Escrow accepted at buyer expense.

This unit is under warranty and currently has an issue with 1 chain not hashing. Runs at 9.1 TH/S
If you are located in the US, I will ship the item for warranty repair and then have it sent to you. Bitmain can't seem to wrap their head around this concept
If you are in Canada, I am open to offers but I will not ship it to China for repairs.

I am located in Canada, and it is not cost effective for me to ship the Miner to China for repair.

Photos will be updated tonight when I get home.

As far as merits go. Forget them, hand out the ones you have and as time goes on you may get some.

If the forum is a resource and not a career, my suggestion is that you just focus on learning or seeking answers to your own questions. Sometimes a great question can also earn you merits.

If you find yourself struggling to make posts that are original I would maybe drop the signature campaign, because that can lead to becoming a spammer

I can admit I focused heavily on merit when it first came out, then that faded and I've just gone back to using the forum as I did before.

If this place is a career, then I would just accept what you are earning now is your set wage.

3448  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin - Development & Technical Discussion on: June 04, 2018, 11:22:24 AM
Your best option in trying to start a decent discussion about something like that is to bump the thread once per day. Make sure to delete old bumps.

It can be tough I tried to start a few discussions about the thefts of equipment from farms, and also about the BTG 51% attacks only to have them fall to the way side.

Unfortunately you can't always find people who want to engage in a discussion on the first try.

Have you looked into awesome miner

I don't have your problem, but I think it would be a good fit for you.

Not sure but I get the impression you may also be referring to GPU mining, if so HIVEOS was good for having a web interface that allowed switching.  If this is the case you should move the topic to altcoins, if not disregard this part of the reply.
3450  Other / Meta / Re: Bug report. Error during report a post to moderator. on: June 04, 2018, 10:07:18 AM

Afaik, creating a new topic or making a new post or sending a private message or reporting a post are all related and you have to wait a specific time (depends from your rank) between each action.

If we are making things big so they can be seen, Invoking gave you an answer that should work.

Just a friendly english tip here.

Message= a verbal, written, or recorded communication sent to or left for a recipient who cannot be contacted directly (taken from dictionary definition)

Massage= a gentle or firm rubbing to soothe aches and pains in muscles or joints... Happy ending may or may not be included  Tongue  (Not taken from dictionary)

I couldn't open your photo, but what matters is what is reported at the pool.

There can be several factors affecting your hashrates. Unless it is a large discrepancy I wouldn't worry about it.

Reported to MODS to move to alt coin section
3452  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1,000,000 gallons milk thrown on streets in 10 days strike on: June 04, 2018, 04:37:33 AM
The waste of nutritional food or beverage in any form is terrible when there are people starving. I don't know what they are looking for exactly but this generally boils down to the farmers getting small percentage of the profits for what they produce when compared to others in the supply chain.

I don't agree with the waste, personally I think it would have been better to provide these items to the impoverished folks in those regions. This would still cut the supply to the top tiers of the society and generate the effect you are looking for; mind you without the wow factor.

Similar protests took place 80 some years ago in North America.

3453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin should NOT determine the market on: June 04, 2018, 02:26:31 AM
I think that the problem lies in the fact that most people investing in Crypto see it as an overall market with no separate identities. It will probably take years but moving forward as crypto markets and economies expand and gain recognition each coin will be able to speak for itself.

The problem is you can't control what someone else is going to do with their coins, every time there is a down trend in BTC people begin to panic sell all of their coins. Not everyone but people who are newer to the space, look at it like stocks, or in general don't believe in the idea behind each coin.

For now things will remain the same because BTC is the name people know and come into the crypto world believing. It's the first out of the gate so everyone is looking to it as an indicator of the overall market.
3454  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Is this heat numbers safe to operate, what is the max the T9+ can go on: June 04, 2018, 02:14:14 AM
You're not great, you want to keep the room under 40C, ideally much cooler than that.

How are you set up for exhausting heat from the room? do you have any options like a window to point the miner exhaust towards?

Here is the spec sheet on the T9+ that goes over the operating conditions and requirements.
3455  Other / Meta / Re: What is going on in the Serious discussion section? on: June 04, 2018, 01:51:03 AM
It's really no different than any other section of the Forum, they don't care where they post.

I spend most of my time in the Bitcoin mining sections, and there you can see the ignorance of board separation extends to many people. There are so many people asking about GPU's or other random shitcoins.
Then there are all the posts advertising their scammy cloud mining services.

Then there are the career shitposters in most other sections who earn a better living wage here than they can working, who do just drop a post wherever they want because they can't be bothered to read the board description for where certain posts belong.

Honestly though, I just report to MODS. I reported 2 the other day in random places, 1 in Bitcoin discussion for being a low quality repetitive thread. Something along the lines of will BTC be $20000 again.

And the other I think was to our newest MOD hellfish for a post I didn't think belonged in Politics and society. Something along the lines of a UFC fighter still having the backing of his sponsor.

I personally disagree with the ignore button if you want to clean up the forum, despite it being a task that can be tiring and frustrating for myself, it has to be worse for the MODS. If you are here for your own scrolling posting and do not have an interest in making the forum better, then ignore away.

So if I must I will report/annoy MODS with several posts a day, if it becomes to much for the MODS they will in turn report/annoy theymos until 1 of 2 things happen.

1) They are given the support they need to deal with this shit
2) The fight is lost and the forum continues the decline many of the senior members speak of.

A point of clarification, annoy might be the wrong word but it's the whole squeeky wheel idea, and I do it to be helpful in rooting out the trash not just to be a dick.

I had a advertise in Marketplace about selling the coupons. And one guy PM me and tell me that he gonna buy all, but I'm a Newbie and I have to send coupons first. So I send a coupon, he sad thank you and never send me a payment. What I can do?
This is not fair. Who sad that a Newbie is not trustworthy?
Who can help me? thank you. Or is better that I forget everything? Until when I gonna be a Newbie?

Hey sorry that happened to you, scammers will commonly try any means such, as pressure or belittling to get you into the trap.

Save all your PM's, I did find your AD in the auctions section and it looks like they didn't even comment there just PM'd you. So you will want to open a Scam Accusation against the user.

Usually a DT member will then tag them with Negative trust, unfortunately no one can guarantee you will receive your payment. You will also need to prove you sent them the coupon, not sure how that can be seen via Bitmains website.

Good luck
3457  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer T9+ Low Hashrate on chains on: June 04, 2018, 01:28:42 AM
Unfortunately you appear to have the same problem I encountered with these units.

You will have a problem chip in each of the chains that have dropped to around 100 GH/S

My T9+ only has one problem chip and hashes around 9-9.5 TH/S so it wasn't worth sending back to China.

You might find this to be different, if you are located in the US or anywhere else they have outside service centers.

The only thing you can really do is RMA the unit and get it repaired if the cost is worth it for you. I wouldn't even bother getting approval to open it up, as they make you send the entire unit in for repair anyways even if you diagnose the problem area.

After you contact support they will tell you to upgrade the firmware, this did nothing for me but maybe it will help you out if it is a different problem.
3458  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: the transfer i made from my electrum wallet to my bitpay card got lost. on: June 04, 2018, 01:19:18 AM
Hey you reached out to me via PM. I wanted to point out HCP here is much more knowledgeable than myself in regards to wallets and the intricacies of the network.

I would continue the conversation with them. Also there is no risk that I am aware of for you to post the transaction Id from the coins you sent in the first place, or even the public address used. I will stress not the private keys, just the address you sent the coins to.

I know I have heard things in the past that speak to the possibility of the address you copied being replaced with a different recipient address due to malware. So it is always good practice to double check the address after copying it and before sending coins.

Good luck
3459  Other / Meta / Re: How to prevent spam posts? on: June 03, 2018, 09:28:26 AM
Spam in bounty topic is not annoying, because people coming there for an obvious reason of joining one. But this google forms is one of the best things to make the life of bounty hunters so much better. Assuming manager checking it on regular basis.

Exactly that is what the section is for. The spam everyone is trying to clear up are all the garbage posts littered throughout the rest of the forum, making it difficult to have a real discussion or find relevant information.

Quote
The only reason to reduce the amount of spam is to limit requirements of posts. Some managers require 20-30 posts per week. This is insane, nobody checks the quality of posts of this amount. They ask 70-100 characters per post but in reality, only check starting and finishing post counts. How long will these bounty managers dictate their conditions on this forum? If the administration will ask them to reduce requirements and do a better job of checking posts then no need to cancel signatures. You'll see fewer spammers, trust me.

Not exactly true, a person can easily post 25 posts in a week that contribute, and provide a net positive for the forum. I have seen some campaigns that put minimums of 200 characters in their required posts. I believe that leads to massive walls of text or plagiarism (thankfully a lot of people are hunting for this).

Lowering the requirements as you say will just lead to more people coming here and spouting garbage as it will be seen as easier to meet the minimums. They will enroll their multiple accounts to earn multiples of 20$ until caught.

What needs to be done is Managers need to be responsible for the campaigns they run. I know some have assistants who do more of the heavy lifting in checking post quality to fight spam, but that's not everyone. Personally I think if you find people wearing Sigs and spamming around the forum or just posting garbage, quote the post and message the campaign manager; they may take action right away or you will annoy them into taking action.

*snip* But management is not easy. *snip*

Then they shouldn't be managing
