3481  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Idea on: June 02, 2018, 04:27:46 AM
While most account farmers, and people who have been trading merits have already used up their initial amount of sMerits. Which will have continually halved, by the receiver being awarded .5 Smerit

This would essentially create a 1-1 tradeoff for these problem forum users. As it stands now every Merit a person receives they then get .5 Smerit, so if the sender then receives .5 Smerit; the aforementioned shitheads will be able to trade to their accounts all day long back and forth.

The system already has its flaws let's not toss another one in there. Most of the people you hear are holding their Smerits either don't care about the system as there is actually no requirement too, or somehow they do not feel anyone posts to their standard of quality; in this group most don't need any additional Merit.

Hey Tim; glad to see your still up and running.

As you may remember I'm more of a real world guy not so much coding or programming. Have you thought about just measuring the average time it takes to currently reduce the temperatures?

What I mean is the next time you monitor the higher temps and your script changes over to allow the fans to cool the board; you time the cool down process.

Doing this will give you a baseline that in all likelihood is around 10 minutes maybe less. Using this information you could set a timer for switching back to your main pool, in your script... if that's possible again not my strong suit.

Depending on how many banks you have you may want to assign a different time to each one if there is a noticeable difference in cool down time.

Not sure if that's helpful, good luck.

Mind you, you can probably count those members on the fingers of one foot. Smiley

I believe you mean toes good sir.  Tongue
( or hand I guess)

Unless you deal in cloth, and if so forgive my ignorance

Next difficulty retarget occurs at block 526175.0 (eta 10.8 days): 5.17423501215e+12 / +20.1% [est.]

Wtf? 20% increase?

Which means 20% less profits.

I think the last diff increase was just yesterday, might have been a bunch of quick lucky blocks or something.

Wait a few days and you'll see it level out a bit, as the network hashrate doesn't appear to have jumped drastically.

On the other hand a 20% increase is not unheard of there have been a few of those since I started mining last year.

I had heard about something with electroneum, but don't really follow verge.

It doesn't surprise me to see this happening, given the opportunity someone with the means to rip an entity off will do so. Evidenced like you say by all the scam ICO's.

Unfortunately as of now there is nothing that can be done about a 51% attack that I am aware of; not that I'm an expert in these things.
3486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 'Bitcoin' hacked - on: May 25, 2018, 09:18:40 AM
I posted a topic about this in the altcoin section

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4197414.msg38342295#msg38342295

Whoever it is went after exchanges prompting them to increase the amount of confirmations they require.

These two addresses stole me 1326K RVNcoin   Is there any way to get it back? Thank you very much

No you can not reverse the transaction.

How did they steal your coins?? Whatever it was change your passwords.
3488  Other / Meta / Re: Have banned the only account. on: May 25, 2018, 07:06:15 AM
You stand a better chance at winning the lottery.

The punishment for plagiarism is a permanent Ban. I believe there are only 2 cases of this being reversed; but I do not see you receiving this exclusion.

It was also extremely hard to try and read your wall of text. I think you tried to say you made the mistake when you were a JR. Member, but the quoted post was from February. Not that it all really matters,

3489  Other / Off-topic / Re: Take Showers, Not Baths on: May 25, 2018, 05:21:11 AM
The problem with this is that people don't actually consider what their water consumption is when taking a shower.

You have to take into account what the flow rate of the shower head is and make sure that you limit the time you are in the shower for. There are a ton of ways to cut down on the water usage in a home if you are willing to put in a few reduction measures.

One of my favorites is using the grey water from the sink to fill the toilet bowl for flushing. You can also put in the dual flush systems that regulate the amount used for different "needs".

In regards to the shower one I remember using mostly due to lack of hot water sometimes was taking the "navy shower".
3490  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Know the laws around trading on: May 25, 2018, 01:50:59 AM

the reason he was sentenced is that he served as an exchange, therefore money transmitter. He wasn't buying and selling crypto only for his purposes, but obviously running business exchanging bitcoin for fiat.

So what is the difference to someone who has been hodling long term, and decides to make in person deals for BTC, or even escrowed deals through the forum if both participants are in the
US. Would they also be charged? or is there some other trigger I am missing?

That's the question I'm asking myself after having read the article.
What stopped all these guys from buying bitcoins on exchange? Why would they meet in a McDonald's parking lot?

The purchases in question were made by federal agents; who were looking to lay charges.

I'm trying to find out more information as to what law was actually broken and what triggered it; prior to him not caring about the illegal means the money apparently came from.
I myself don't know what the problem is with this guy selling bitcoin in person.

I'm really looking for why he was being investigated in the first place, because without the undercover operation how did they know he was doing anything illegal.
3491  Other / Meta / Re: We need to change our mindset on: May 24, 2018, 04:05:51 AM
Hmmm...I'll have to take a look at his post history.
If you are looking for any specific info, just mention. I will tell you here or PM you. I don't want people like you wasting time  Grin

What they're probably looking to see is if you have a bought/hacked account.

I took a peek myself and it looks crazy weird that you took a 4 year hiatus to the day from the forum despite being here to earn money.

If you had kept up you would be in possession of a Hero/Legendary account and would have earned a significant amount.

peculiar to say the least.
3492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Double spend transactions-BTG- Confirmed on: May 24, 2018, 02:33:37 AM
Yeah I really don't expect an attack on the bitcoin network.

It was just something I've been seeing as more likely to happen in some of the smaller altcoin markets. Like you said where the cost benefit favors a malicious attack if they can dump the ill gotten gains before the word gets out and it negatively impacts the cost of the coin.

This seems to be a potential problem for any coin with a relatively small miner base that has been fairly widely adopted. There are a lot of people out there with a large enough hashrate they could and apparently do make targeted attacks when they see the benefit to do so. Maybe in the future, Bitcoin forks won't be adopted as readily on major exchanges due to issues such as this.
3493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Double spend transactions-BTG- Confirmed on: May 24, 2018, 02:11:45 AM
So I have always heard the theory behind a 51% attack and how improbable it would be these days with BTC. However since I've been dabbling in mining some smaller lesser known coins I've seen the ease with which some of them could fall prey to an attack.

This is is a confirmed link detailing how a malicious attack has been taking place affecting exchanges on the BTG Network.

https://forum.bitcoingold.org/t/double-spend-attack-on-exchanges/1362/21

It appears that the only victims in the end are the exchanges themselves, but just because it doesn't affect your pocketbook at the moment doesn't mean it won't in the future when they raise fees.

Currently it appears they are trying to combat this by raising their confirmation requirements. If it keeps up you may see them go as high as 100.

If anyone knows more about this, feel free to drop some knowledge bombs.

Just wanted to point out that there is a unit pointed for Kano.is to prepare the pool for T1's

Do not point them there yet, but it is in the works

Anyone else get a phone call from buttmain about the new S11?

Unless you have made massive orders in the past I would be cautious.

I remember they had a data breach like 5 months back.

Where in Canada are you located?
3499  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Dragonmint T1 16 TH/s with PSU on: May 20, 2018, 06:58:13 PM
OP can you post pictures of the units with a handwritten note containing; the date and your forum username. This helps anyone looking to purchase validate the equipment.

I don't negotiate against myself.

Feel free to make an offer. If, by your offer, you appear to be serious, I may make a counteroffer.

Notwithstanding the above, I had a bad experience selling to you in the past. I am not inclined to make a deal with you without pre-payment in full. For anyone else, I'd be happy to use escrow and/or send the T1 and the PSU prior to payment.

Given the history, I'm amazed there is even the consideration of a sale here Huh

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/topstories/unlicensed-bc-bitcoin-trader-jailed-in-us-after-federal-sting/ar-AAxvxVe?li=AAgh0dA

Scrolling through today I came up on this guys story. I guess I'm a little surprised, but I am ignorant to the laws in the US.

I'm wondering is there something wrong with buying and selling BTC not using an exchange? I would have thought as long as you claimed your profits come tax time that everything would be fine.

I could understand if the only reason they went after him was because he tried to maintain "plausible deniability" in regards to where the funds had come from; but they were already investigating him at that point.
