Frankly a roi in btc means nothing

It makes a difference to mining because you can always just hold the BTC and wait for them to go up.

Case in point this group buy currently costs around 0.2 BTC per share. If you just hold onto those 0.2 BTC you might do very well if the price of BTC goes up. Assuming the price does go up, to do better by sending it off to buy hardware you need to somehow eventually end up with more than 0.2 BTC at some point in the future.

yes you can do that..   and you are leaving out the value of the gear.  the gear has resale value.

So 1 share at 130usd  at 600 usd  btc is     .217 btc.

pay that.  and in 1 year  1 btc = 1200    so  you have  260 usd / .217 btc

buy a share for .217 btc  and in 1 year earn .200 btc  then sell the gear for .1 btc you have .3btc    at 1200 = 360

the problem with thinking in btc roi   is you use 1 path to profit and leave out hundreds of other paths.

This is not to say that buying 10 btc from coinbase today at 6k stashing it in a safe wallet for 2 years completely ignoring it is a bad move.   It is a simple 1 way 1 method choice to making money in the world of btc.

Buying a share here is more complex. Doing both is more complex.  doing that  plus selling some gear on ebay  and mining in your home along with setting gear up for local friend if far more complex.  This is my limit.  Others do all of that and write programs for mining and others do all that and write programs for new coins.

A question to SSB do you have any 49 port hubs?

I would take one  or two and buy a label.  what label do they need? I sent a pm thanks!
44703  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Group Buy #26 AsicMiner Cube Miners and USB Hubs on: December 23, 2013, 08:59:43 PM
So the cube works at low clock setting at 27-28 GHS for me. I want to move the cube out of wired router connection now. Any links will be helpful to follow right directions for the same.

I don't understand the question?

You want to move the cube out of a wired router connection to what?

Do your cubes work on high clock settings?
My cube was at low clock setting. I had it connected to my router using Ethernet cable to get started. I got 26-28 GHS, sometimes 20-25ghs. Can I move it away from the router and just connect to my computer to make it work?

you need to be hardwired to the net and do you have a 1000 or a 100 ethernet connection?

those are switches.  most homes are

router-----switch     so the router needs to be 1000 speed as does the switch

Let me restate that my comment. With the investment plus the monthly fees how much would a person be seeing in return. It seems that everything I mine will be going straight to the hosting fee. For some reason I can't see myself making anything substantial for it to make sense.

Have a look here, if you haven't already.

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/

Remember it's just a prediction, it's hard to tell what the difficulty will be in March.  You are correct, it's hard to anticipate coming out ahead.  Invest wisely.

M

yeah and btc has had predictions of 40000 usd a coin

http://mashable.com/2013/12/16/cameron-winklevoss-bitcoin/

so place your bets.

Buying in on r17 means you hope diff is not insane  it is 1180 mill  and you hope btc shoots up. it is 620 usd.

Frankly a roi in btc means nothing . case in point btc was 105 in sept I grabbed 1 coin.  it is now worth 605.  1 btc in 1 btc out.  105 usd in 605 usd out.
I grabbed a coin on NOV 28th  1152.. so 1 btc in 1 btc back.  1152 usd in and 605 usd out.

so playing this r17 is a guess at   diff vs btc price.
we all know diff will rise we do not know what btc price will do.

1)if we get miner in late feb
2)if they work
3) if the coop is honest
4) if the place does not get robbed or burn or flood earthquake yada yada yada
5) if diff is okay and not endless streak of 30-40%
6)  and if we move closer to the high end number of 40,000 a coin
7) if what ever I missed does not jump up and fuck the coop.

For me I have   10 shares of this and may buy some more.
44706  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GROUP BUY WORLDWIDE] #1 Bitmain Antminer U1 USB Erupter [ANN] on: December 23, 2013, 05:30:49 AM
below is an example of a no btc roi yet a huge usd roi

http://www.dzminercoop.com/?page_id=124

so if you had a time machine  what person would tell me that they do not want 10 shares here and it is a  failed  investment.

BTW  I do know people running  saying this is the case.

So if a stick here cost .09 btc which is about 58 usd.. at 644 a btc   and

in 1 year it makes .04 btc back at  at 2000 usd you net 80usd.

much like what happened in dzminercoop r5+r6   a btc loss and a usd gain.

_______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________
any one that says these sticks will not make a gain/roi in usd may be correct or may be wrong.  = fact

for determining  tax owed btc roi has no meaning  in any country in the world as of today = fact

44707  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GROUP BUY WORLDWIDE] #1 Bitmain Antminer U1 USB Erupter [ANN] on: December 23, 2013, 05:15:25 AM
my first example of buying btc then buying sticks then selling all of them on ebay . with no mining at all has a different set of tax rules.    and buying and selling sticks with 0 mining is easy to do when compared to buying and selling s-1 units with no mining.

I can also say many people can run 2-6 sticks power free they can not run a s-1 power free.

If you want 50 sticks to mine in one location this deal sucks go buy  a few cubes or an s-1.

I am getting 50 to 100 sticks   and mining with some and selling some.  It will work for me and anyone like me.
44708  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GROUP BUY WORLDWIDE] #1 Bitmain Antminer U1 USB Erupter [ANN] on: December 23, 2013, 04:50:13 AM
To any one that thinks the s-1 is a better deal it is if you feel like having 1 big piece.

The point is the S1 is not even a good deal at 4.25BTC will never ROI, these are a terrible deal at 10BTC for the same hashrate and will return only a 3rd of the purchase price.

that is because you have not wrapped your mind around roi. in every country in the world that charges tax the income is generated in the fiat of that country.   You are talking in roi in terms of btc and in every country in the world that charges taxes  btc has no place in the determination of the roi of the gear.

As I type right now 10 btc on coin base is 6441 usd .  as I type .  now you need to understand tax law.    but here it goes  I buy 10 coins at 6441 usd I get 111 sticks my roi is not 10btc to the usa/irs it is 6441 usd  .  I sell all the stick on ebay at 200 usd a set of 2 that is 55 sets at 200   thats 11000 usd.   ebay pay fees are 7% or 770  you are down to 10230.  shipping is 330 you are at 9900  minus the 6441 you paid your profit is  3459 usd.   btc has no meaning just usd.

now you are an ebay buyer.  you buy 2 sticks for 200.  you get a few discounts you pay 180 for the 2 sticks.

you mine 3.2 gh earns  .0095 btc in  a week    if you cash the coins in you get  6 bucks. at 644 a btc

you are down 174 after one week. next week diff goes up and you earn .009  and btc shoots to the moon 3000 usd that is 27 dollars you are down   147 after 2 weeks.  btc stays in the 2000 to 4000 usd price range all of 2014.   those sticks turn a usd profit  they do not turn a btc  profit.

oh but  if you purchased coins in the beginning  you would have made more .  this is not a valid argument.

mining and selling coins as they come in is a completely different tax category then buying coins and holding them long term.  they have different tax  laws and they have different risk factors.

Hash rate dropped to  3.476   th from about 4th

the part that dropped is the large worker  that is the black arrow part  it was pushing 3.4 it is now doing 2.85.

I missed the drop As I was busy from 8 am sat to 12 noon sun.      while 3.476 is a bit more then the minimum we were promised.  what concerns me is the section that dropped is the black arrow part.   hoping it gets solved today.

It concerns me  if it keeps occurring because  dZcoop myself included has a lot riding on black arrow gear in r17 due in feb.  I do not want  black arrow to me known as the ''Fiat" of asic's      I am of Italian descent  so I can say Fiat = Fix it again Tony.

Although for us it has been Fiab =  Fix it again bob.

Had some issues with power strips, not gear related. Will be lower till replacements come in tomorrow (might also be able to push us past 4.3thash with this)
  Sweet

  FIAB!!

Although I think it is going to stay fixed this time.
44710  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GROUP BUY WORLDWIDE] #1 Bitmain Antminer U1 USB Erupter [ANN] on: December 23, 2013, 03:46:18 AM
Well if you don't hold coins coinbase has a 10 btc limit.   So If I found 4 guys with 9 coins each i would be the 5th letting me buy at the .09 price.  I can make money at .09 a stick if I buy at 625 a coin  it comes to  56 or 57 a stick.  I can get 95-115 on ebay no problem.  Sell sets of 2 sticks ship in a small flat rate box.      sell off  60 sticks and keep 40.    This bombshell makes it  a lot harder for me. To set up and decide how many.

To any one that thinks the s-1 is a better deal it is if you feel like having 1 big piece.

For many ebayers buying a  3000 or 4000 dollar unit is scary.  buying 2 sticks at 200 seems easy.

For an ebay seller selling a set of 2 sticks for 200-220 is far safer to do.

I prefer many  sales of 2 sticks to 1 sale of a s-1 unit.

He got the well known part right lol.

Laughed when i see "trusted vendor" and "butterfly labs" together.
I trust BFL.

Now and forever.

I am attempting to set the all-time record for no gear. I am closing in on 300 days . My Money was sent in March of 2013 I got nothing so far. Fulll disclosure I converted my order from 2 jallys to a 50th cloud order. Due in feb of 2014 that will make 11 months .  I hope that they open their cloud in June putting me into the 450 day range.

44713  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 600 GH/s how long is it good for? on: December 22, 2013, 07:32:50 PM
Hellow everyone. I am planning on preordering the butterfly labs 600 gh/s card that is shipping some time in February. I wanted to know how long that machine would be relevant and if there was a way to calculate the break even point. In short is it worth the investment eventhough it will be arriving next year?
no here is why

http://www.butterflylabs.com/monarch/  cost = 4680 for 600 gh you need a pc and you must supply power to run it.

ignore genesis block link posted below.

more  on why it is not a good deal

this deal is insanely better

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=335145.0

40 gh for 130 usd or 640 gh for 16x 130 = 2080    no pc no fuss no muss… s

so 600 gh for 4680  from a company that has a terrible rep

or 640 gh for 2080  from a company that has a good rep.

  both gear arrives in feb.

Back to genesis block info.    It can not be accurate long term predictor of btc price.    It may or may not be a good predictor of difficulty rate adjustment.

and no mater what it predicts   .  the dzcoop deal is less then half the price for more hashpower then the Monarch both  due the same month.

disclosure I have 10 shares of r17 or 400gh   ---------------------1300usd>>>>>>>>>  due to start in feb

I have 11 shares of r9-r12 or 88 gh---------------------------------1353usd>>>>>>>>I cashed out   2120 usd so far

I have 19 shares of r5-r6 or 110 gh   all from dZcoop-------------1482usd >>>>>>>> I cashed out 3683 usd so far

I have 1 share of r1 from them also. 192  --------------------------192usd>>>>>>>>>>dues to start in jan

I was just looking at the site and was wondering? Is this a physical product or a mining contract I'm not sure but it does look like a great deal. Now would you know the power consumption?

they are lifetime  contract you own a part of the machine.
when they sell them you off you get a part of the sale.
so far they have been good to me and a lot of other people.

as to whether it will make money Huh??  remember in 2 days coins could be at 100 usd  or 1000 usd.  no one knows the price of the coin when these mine in feb.

Do you have a link for that PSU plug?  My paperclips just don't look good.
  yes ebay seller

my psu did not need the resistor some do some don't.  I just snipped the resistor out.  I can use it in another place.
Why do u need this plug? Shouldn't the PSU turn on when you plug the cube to it?

no .     if you have a standalone psu it needs to think it is attached to a motherboard and that you pressed the on switch.   that is what the plug does.

this is true of many psu.  but as I found out my highest quality psu's  my platinum seasonics  did not work even with the tricky little plug attached.

the cheaper quality "everest 85plus 800" was great  with the cheater plug

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104084

I had buyers waiting on these four cubes and since the post office was 2 days late I did not try every psu I have on them. I will test the next set I get more thoroughly.

44718  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Group Buy #26 AsicMiner Cube Miners and USB Hubs on: December 22, 2013, 05:47:10 AM
yes buy an external fan like this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009OWRMZ6/ref=s9_simh_gw_p60_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=11281RHPP98P0XWTJ15V&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1630083502&pf_rd_i=507846

dismount the internal fan.  mount this externally and this will blow 2x the air.

or leave the internal fan in
place and add the one above.

or stack 4 cubes into a square and mount this against them

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jarden-Home-Environment-Holmes-20-Inch-Portable-Color-Box-Fan-Pink-/350822561797?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51aea77805

just a fast google and you could find one for under 20 bucks.

Mine won't start without a 3 pin fan attached internally?  I just figured it was a safety feature.  I tried to put 110CFM delta fans inside but they are 2 pin.
I  found out it is picky about the internal fan. hates noctua   has to have a 3 pin fan.   so far this one is best.

http://www.amazon.com/Coolink-120mm-1200RPM-18-2dba-SWiF2-1201/dp/B002IG5HJ8/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1387690947&sr=1-4&keywords=coolink+swif2

  runs quiet .

I put this on the outside of the 4 I have

http://www.lowes.com/pd_95021-1621-3733_0__?productId=1114391&Ntt=20+inch+fan&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3D20%2Binch%2Bfan&facetInfo=

end of story dead cool  set the electric on low. quiet and the yellow fans look pretty.

pretty much hit or miss on the 3 pin fans.  do not use a noctua  it buzzs like a bee when you power down.  I sold all four that I ordered.  I am going to order 2 or 3  more on sunday.

every cube sent had one or more misaligned boards
use  a roll of paper towels and some antistatic bubble wrap to push the boards out
Thanks for the pics philip.
Du u have a link to a cheap PSU I can quickly get from best buy or any other B&M store?
What's this plug you are using? What is it for?

plug tricks the psu into turning on.   I do not know what power supply to tell you to use.  I do know now that  none  of my seasonics would work.
