An alternative to solve the duplicated transactions :

NEM group handles one case ('stake reserved _money_ account') at a time as follows.

1.  NEM group sends PM's to suspected names (possibly only 2), who claim that
they own the account. NEM group asks them to send 1, 2, ... or 10 NXTs.
   * Extra check, if there is a very active and anxious fraudster: Each candidate is asked to
send a different amount of money. So that fraudsters can't explain
that they just sent the 2 NXts from THE account, when they saw that kind of transaction
from THE account to NEM account. Explanations are not enough, coz they were asked to send 4 NXT Smiley

2.  All the receivers send the requsted money from their accounts.

3. NEM group compares the sending accounts to the original 'stake reserved account'.

4. NEM group returns the NXTs, which were sent in this extra check.
If the anxious fraudster sends some NXTs, they are kept for the NEM group Smiley

This IPO has good features by being so public, but some of the process must not be public.
Maybe at this time, the not public part is the last verification.

jumped to the step 2. and sent a pm to u & k.

your case has been solved in your favor a while ago.

Marketing NEM after fundraising

Ok Nem has done a good job attracting stakeholders with its initial equal distribution plan but what happens after the close of the fundraising?  Why would people choose to invest in NEM( apart from being a great coin ) instead of the other 100 or more crypto currencies when the carrot of a million Nem per stake no longer exists.

We need to think of ways to differentiate Nem from the competition. The following are few ideas that occurred in my mind.

- The wallet should contain a small amount of NEM( 100Nem?) to entice people to download the wallet to properly see just how much better it is compared to other cryptos.

- Stake holders should band together and sponsor good causes for goodwill. Raising money to help buy medical supply for our unfortunate friends in Syria, Sudan is a great way to do good while helping NEM cause too.

- Start a Nem community market with goods sole priced in NEM.

- start a fundraising campaign to get a 10-20 sec commercial on bbc, cnn( if allowed)

any other ideas you guys can think of?

We should do that as a community. I hope our generally egalitarian community would help to kick-start a lot of good-will projects.

@ utopianfuture

maybe, it would be good to get somebody with an economical background (if someone of you already is, ignore this) in the developer team!
somebody who can do the maths and rough progronses (for example if we want to figure out how many fees should be forged at what amount of coins.)
this should probably not just be random intuition.

I think this would make a very convincing and holistic crypto!

I have an economic background, not the type of financial engineering or mathematical economics but in the institutional and political tradition of Keynes, Hayek, Friedman, Minsky, Douglas North etc. However imho mainstream economic models such as these DSGE models http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_stochastic_general_equilibrium generally do not work for economic policies as well as having a good grasp of institutional history and incentive design. Mathematical models look sophisticated but often require a lot of restrictive assumptions which generally not being satisfied in real life conditions.

I think a decentralised exchange (asset exchange) on release would be amazing. Then there'd be no need for NEM to be accepted on a centralised exchange to begin trading; it can happen immediately.

Thoughts on this?

It would be great but you still need an exchange as a fallback.
Also there is a bounty open on a fiat to NEM Service which would be a huge deal since this is something I think no other crypto has (besides BTC and maybe LTC obviously).
I know very little about the details of opening an exchange such as this, but I'm under the impression it's extremely difficult; not technically, but in terms of getting tied up in all sorts of legal trash... essentially it's not really worth it unless your exchange is likely to get lots f volume.

Yep that's pretty much it. Many people have tried providing a service where you can buy cryptos via PayPal and it usually takes less than a month for PayPal to shut it down. The only service I know that is still able to sell BTC for PayPal is virwox.

I like to have something like a LocalNemcoin site. LocalBitcoin is a great grassroot service for bitcoin and that model is much more difficult to suppress compared to a centralized service.

I translated this thread in the Turkish section of Bitcointalk.

You can take a look;

I hope I can be a stakeholder for this work.

sorry promotional stakes are now for veteran accounts only (open before the fundraising)

well I will see if the community think that your translation is worth it for a share.

Hello,
I'm not on the stakeholder list, I've done my registration on page 61 of the registration thread part 2.

I'm still a newbie to this so please tell me if I've done anything wrong.

Thanks.

Page 61. The official list is not updated to you. Patience is needed. Thanks.

Hi!

I made a donation (post  #1196, 60 page, 600 NXT amount).

87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=2000&tra=4470112672885082437
Transaction ID 4470112672885082437.

But, in NEM Stakeholder list (no. 2545), in my note - bogus transaction.

Check please.

Best regards.

This transaction was not there when I complied list. Anyway since this is not a duplicate transaction with correct time-stamp. I have changed the status. SOLVED.
812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] ---NEM stake complaint, questions etc.--- on: February 12, 2014, 07:30:30 PM
My posts from page 41 part 2 was marked as a possible duplicate account with an account named botija on page 49.

What happened was that I was under the impression that I could buy 2 stakes. I had bought one stake in page 86 of part one with j23a, and since I thought 2 were allowed, I thought why not buy another before the price keeps going up. So I decided to buy another one I believe on page 41, because why not if it's within the rules. (I should mention that I've been heavily promoting this coin in my daily life, since I do want it to succeed and for it to be very spread out. Most people dismiss it, but some do look into it.) But later on in the development page for NEM I read that a person cannot buy two stakes per account. But that the solution would be to delete the post that I did with j23a on page 41, create a new account and post the transaction ID from page 41 on the new account. Which is what I did.

Here's the account named botija on page 49 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=440185.960

The account is legitimate, not trying to steal my stake, it was just a moment of low reading comprehension. Don't know what will happen since I could still be misinterpreting the rules.

SOLVED. I gave the stake to botija. j23a still has one earlier.
813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 12, 2014, 04:35:28 PM
I am changing the front page to reflect the new ideas in the development plan. NEM is not planned to be a fork of NXT anymore but rather NEM code bases would be re-written completely based on the best ideas in Bitcoin and NXT plus its own innovations.

It is time we have a good looking front page for NEM. So let me know if you have a proposal for the nemcoin.info site. I like sites with a clean, minimalist design. Here are some sites samples that I like http://www.mastercoin.org/ ; http://info.nxtcrypto.org/ ; http://potcoin.info/

The site should belong to a NEM founder/ stakeholder who commits to NEM's future, it could be a group effort as well. Initially, the site will only have basic information about NEM and also have regular NEM development updates.

... if you don't like the way funding for development is handled you can get a refund.

If you go through all the pages of shitcoins, where have you ever seen anything like that? Even ethereum doesn't make a guarantee like that.

That's why NEM is not ethreum Smiley To be fair, they have a more details on management side before they raise fund.

Or maybe I am not clear, the refund is only in a short period after the announcement.
815  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 12, 2014, 04:06:06 AM
Fundraising updates: As we are moving past page 70, I would like to announce a few updates going forward.

- Given the our targets in funding and the number of stakeholders, the fundraising will stop after page 90 of registration thread 2. After that there will be a public auditing of the stakeholder list based on the public information in the two registration threads including account names and transaction records. Every NEM stakeholders are invited to look at the records for mistakes and discrepancies; we will also apply the disclaimer "the development team reserves the right to refund you the money if an effort to unfairly accumulate NEM stakes is discovered" to refund big multi-accounters based on the taint analysis results. Details about this process will be published after the fundraising is over at page 90.

- Details about the management of development stakes as well as development fund will also be published after page 90. There will be a refund period after this announcement so if you don't like the way funding for development is handled you can get a refund.

- Promotional stakes will be open again but to veteran accounts (open before the fundraising and has activity >20) only.

- An interesting statistics about our stakeholders' population will be published soon.

Thanks for supporting NEM. We will be a great community.

more logos! Smiley

first of all: congratz man! Smiley
this shape is very well thought through & logical.
nor to symmetric neither to asymmetric.

and guys please..
good logos are always an abstraction.
its not possible to grant PERFECT readability (If you work with letters at all) and at the same time have a logo with an incisive shape you actually REMEMBER. right?

In other words you cannot have the cake and eat it.
And imo the Abstraction/Readability-ratio is pretty much as good as it gets. (And ive tried a while myself)
In my Impression most people, including myself, read NEM and not something else.
Once you read "NGI" it of course sticks with you.

But just think of the NXT-logo for example^^
You could read almost anything into it (eg. XXT), and people are still fine.
Because its a good logo, that people REMEMBER.
Logo critic should be balanced and not overlook this context.

Look distinctive. Very well done. Look like we have a logo front-runner Smiley

So how much longer would it take to create a new coin from scratch, vs doing it base on the NXT code?

(Not a big question on my part, I'm just trying to get some discussion going on.)

NEX, which as far as I can tell, is creating a coin that is basically a clone of NXT is launching in early March:
Is there any expected schedule for NEX?

In 4 weeks.  Developers are busy working on the code right now.

NEM doesn't currently have a release schedule, but won't be launching in early march Smiley.

Correction,  NEX isn't going to even bother cloning NXT.  NXT isn't really a good base to build a foundation on.

That's why the NEM guys are building from scratch too.   Once you see the dirty laundry, you want to avoid it for good.

NEM is so called "No Envy" for a reason. We don't bad-mouth other cryptos and that's is probably something FC could learn from.

Hi utopianfuture,

I see on the stakeholder list there is a possible duplicate hash on what I sent.  Please let me know how I can prove that I did send that.

Thanks!

Hi utopianfuture,

Following up on this post. Stakeholder list indicated:

1640       ajtan428      possible duplicate hash fraudster

If there is a duplicate hash, the other person is the fraudster as this was really sent by me. Do let me know how I can prove this to you. Thanks.

Another case of duplicate hashes

166   hukliberi   6aa8bb5a2debd4065401063b671f3b4759c15de4805b93198ac9b2cc33b5b32a

@ajtan428 could you prove the ownership of that transaction by sending very small amount of BTC from that sending address to NEM address - do that and pm me the hash of the transaction.
