Can some1 give me a clear answer: did he sign the blocks with the private key or not?

The BBC and other news outlets say yes but no evidence of it has been provided.

Syscoin goes from $300k marketcap to $3m marketcap in less than a few months. Gets lots of free publicity.

Not sure why.

However, Stonehedge, something that slightly bothers me coming from you... Really?

...

Talk to people!  Stop disappearing for weeks on end, start telling people what is happening and start sticking to your promises.

...

Very fair point.  For the public record, I recently agreed to assist another project with some project management work but real life issues lead me to go AWOL and renege on that undertaking.  Communications should have been better but they weren't. I have too much going on at the moment. Its a fair cop.

One of my goals with DRK was to do my part to get it into the top10.  That's why I was by far the top poster on the DRK and Dash thread. By the time a project reaches the top 10 it becomes self sustainable.

I said I was going to put as much effort into SPR (including working on the name) and also getting it into the top 10.

Issues crop up. Projects have good days, bad days, crisis and really long periods of drift when nothing seems to be happening until everything seems to happen at once.

I made a commitment to do my part to get SPR into the top 10.  I will stick with that promise, because honest startup crypto projects need to instil confidence to those that want to find a project they can join and contribute to in any shape or fashion.

You and I have become friends, I think. We've met and we have other interests. All that through this project. How may more bromances are waiting to be discovered along this journey to the top 10?

We have indeed become friends.

I'd be 100% behind this project if there was one hint of compromise in working methods to allow my contributions to be worthwhile.

It has been incredibly frustrating to see my efforts of the last 12 months go to waste because of a lack of community engagement and team work.

Being a sensitive soul I took a bit of offence to indirectly being referred to as a FUDer a few posts back.

For this reason I thought I'd jot down my position on the Spreadcoin project in a more detailed way so that I at least can have my say in a single post that can be referred to.

These are purely my own opinions so please treat them as such.  I still have a large stake in Spreadcoin. I post this hoping to open a debate that so far hasn't been forthcoming.

The vision I bought into.

An innovative, blockchain based, decentralised service provision experiment.  The plan was to create an overlay network consisting of service nodes. It was discussed and agreed that the best way to achieve a large service network would be to create paying nodes that perform either no service or a very minor one so that the network could grow while work on the first services could happen. I thought that the idea was to create an API so that once the service network existed, anybody could develop their own services.

Separately, I believed that PoBN was going to be the centre-piece cryptographic challenge that a core group of the Spreadcoin team would work on once the service network was growing in mainnet while other groups worked on other services.

The vision 12 months later.

Georgem  decided that service nodes cannot exist without providing a service.  Georgem decided that the first service is going to be a block explorer.  Neither of these decisions were made in consultation with either the dev team or the community.  Indeed, this change of direction was made 9 months after taking over the project which wasted a large amount of the dev team's work.

My primary concerns.

In the last 12 months the only release from this project has been the pretty wallet with vanitygen.  Progress is too slow.  Statements about the project surviving problems in the past miss the point.  Good momentum is needed if support, financial and otherwise, is to grow.

Georgem refuses to work alongside other developers or to discuss progress or problems either publicly with the community or privately with the core dev team.  The continual failure to engage with anybody has lead to significant frustration among a number of people.  Not just me.

Several people on the core dev team have invested large amounts of time and money into public relations and business development in conjunction with georgem's timscales but each time new investment is attracted, the glacial pace of progress with the project and missed deadlines dowses any new interest.

What I ask Georgem to consider.

Evaluate your skills.  If you don't have the right skills, bring people on board who do.  You have said before that you can't learn working with somebody else.  If this is true, are you really lead dev material?  You need to lead this project, not just code.  I believe you are failing at the moment.

Pause for a moment and consider the number of  experienced and successful experts in their fields who have been alienated from the team.  I'd like to hear your views on why you think this has happened.

Consider code reuse.  See my comment about learning from others.  Reusing code doesn't mean you are taking a shortcut or that you are copy and paste dev.  Code reuse when done properly is best practice.

Reconsider your “no blank servicenodes” approach.  By developing the overlay network and block explorer at the same time I believe you are setting yourself up for a fall.  Do things in a modular way.  Not only is it a more versatile approach, it is easier to debug and usually more scalable.

Ask the community what the first service should be.  Discuss.  Engage.  Agree.  Stop treating Spreadcoin as your personal project.

Talk to people!  Stop disappearing for weeks on end, start telling people what is happening and start sticking to your promises.

Learn to love investors.  You can't talk about needing to pay your bills and then belittle investors in the same breath. The project needs investors and it needs you (and everybody else) to cater to their needs.

What do I think will happen next?

It's all down to Georgem actually proving that he either has the dev skills to deliver or the wider IT skills to manage the project and backfill skills gaps.  If neither of these things happen, then SPR is dead in the water.  I don't believe that the altcoin scene is going to be a growth area for long enough for Georgem to build a service network from first principles.

Dozens of amazing opportunities have been missed.  I believe that Spreadcoin would have been a top ten coin without any compromise on decentralisation or code quality if various bits of advice had been followed.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing but significant and radical change is needed if this project is to succeed.

Time to step up and become a leader Georgem.

So how is work on service nodes coming on Georgem?

Under the circumstances pretty good.
Dayjob is standing in the way a little bit.  Cool

No hint of an ETA or comment about what you are currently working on?  Any challenges that you'd like to share with the community?

why are you and Georgem so nonchalant about Stone's leaving?
violent mood swings of some members,

It is because you dismiss those who are in a position to help the project most as having violent mood swings that people are losing confidence in you.

I dismiss the methodology of how you planned to implement "big data" with spreadcoin.
But we both agree that "helping full nodes" or "helping bitcoin miners" are good goals.
So we do have common goals.

But we don't agree on the methodology.
Since I am the one that will have to develop those things, I need to apply extra scrutinity where you would normally just rush things to make them happen as fast as possible.

As a Dev I'm always prepared to release my code as open source so that anybody can scrutinize it and comment on it.
How come me scrutinizing your proposal makes you so unease all the time?

Atleast that's the impression that I got so far.

Big data has always been secondary to engaging the community and releasing paying service nodes for me.  I would never rush anything in if it wasn't fit for purpose.

So this is a cultural issue: lone star vs. software integrators; and seeing things from the others perspective is difficult. But it's not turmoil.

16 years of experience managing large IT projects says that projects with one lone star refusing to collaborate with his team always ends up with some level of failure whether that mean total failure or a compromise on quality and benefits.

Unfortunately, I can't speak English very well ; so I can't defend my choice as I want. But look at the american banner and what are doing the american government across the world : they have destroyed all the world. I'm not from ISIS, but I like the resistance.

I hate all violence.  Including US foreign policy.  Why not change your avatar to a peace symbol?

854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: March 04, 2016, 12:37:24 PM
Lets be clear.

No one is advocating anything against Islam.

The cancer you are spreading is the specific type of ideology you have. It pretends to be based on religion, but it is rooted in violence for the sake of violence.

My wife is a Muslim who was born in a war zone. Her and her family are the most peaceful and loving people I know.  My issue is not with Islam, it is with the black banner which you are using as your avatar and what it represents.

Like Titanic scene, if you jump, I jump.

But me, I'm still here with georgem.

@georgem really, with that repugnant flag/ideology on display?  Angry

Distance yourself fast!

Who are you to say who gets to support georgem and his project? I welcome everyone here. Doesn't matter what they believe in, be it an ideology or something else.

FUCKING TERRORIST SUPPORTER

Let georgem tell us all of his opinion on the terrorists ISIS/ISIL and their actions around the world.... Killing , raping, beheading WTF.

I just don't like hating people solely based on their opinions. I judge actions not opinions.

Good to hear that, then you stand against ISIS and there supporters? As you quite adequately put it "I judge actions not opinions"

BEHEADING Christians because of their belief is a Fucking extreme action!!!

This isn't the place to discuss this. If you don't like it, report it and put him on ignore.  Come on people, this is a coin ANN thread.

I'm out too.  I've given hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of pounds to this project and I've got no faith that anything is going to be delivered.  I've donated time from my day job and private life and it isn't worth it any more.

One year since the takeover and we have a pretty wallet and vanitygen.  Progress is just too painful and Georgem steadfastly refuses to use any of the vast amount of experience and assistance thats available to him or even harness the power of the community.  Stay tuned became insulting a long time ago.  This project is extremely centralised while we have one dev working in private without engaging us.

I've got a bag of SPR still but liquidity prevents me from selling it.  Maybe one day in the future I'll check the price and be surprised.

857  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: March 03, 2016, 02:18:17 PM

I see the number 150 an awful lot of times in this list.

I wonder, what is the rationale behind 150 being considered the minimum required to be able to get "extensive user data"?

(Let's forget the max nr. 250 for a second, since we can assume that an upper limit is only restricted by the amount of budget available, and would at some level be of no additional use.
It's the 150 that is more important, since it's being talked about like some sort of "entry level".)

Care to elaborate?

The number of nodes operated by the companies in the list is commercially protected information.  I.e none of the companies on the list were prepared to disclose the size of their data gathering network.

However, informal conversations with contacts employed by companies that may or may not be part of that list lead us to believe that 100 to 250 full nodes is required to get a decent picture of the Bitcoin network.

The core update is becoming more and more critical, especially with the release of 0.12.0.

Maybe this should be a bounty?
859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: March 01, 2016, 07:48:25 PM
Sounds like a scam.   Might as well search for scammernakamoto.  Do not take from our hard earned nodes!  I thought spread coin was above all that.  We do not want to turn into fedoracoin do we?
~GRC

Don't worry, I think people here are just brainstorming, so always take such unofficial ideas with a grain of salt.

One day we might have a vanitygen-competition, but only if it can run on top of a blockchain-based crowd-funding mechanism, where participants themselves decide the goal of the competition and the prize-collateral they are willing to bet. No middlemen whatsoever. And most importantly: people who don't want to participate, don't need to.
Such schemes must always work in a trustless, permissionless manner, where nobody has any control or liability: with only cryptography as the sole guardian needed.

As a libertarian I understand the principles of decentralization pretty well, so rest assured that everything I research and develop has the goal of increasing decentralization, or finding new ways of decentralization where it hasn't been tried before.
I am not here to please investors or fintech or my own or someone elses financial needs. But in the end, the world is in dire need of more decentralization so all the aforementioned parties will find value in truly decentralized systems.

That's why I'm building the decentralized blockexplorer.
That's also why I am building servicenodes that run with a competitive collateral. (decentralizing away the need for a "king" that decides the amount of collateral for everybody else)
Literally everything I will work on will have the name "decentralized" in front of it, or else I'm simply not going to touch it.

You get the idea: if it can't be done in a decentralized way, we shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

So with this in mind, I understand that not everybody here has the same mindset. Not even all of the core members.
But I am not here to police other people's "ideas".

But I'll do everything I can to not let conflicting agendas dissuade spreadcoin from achieving true decentralization.

---

So... I'm putting a few things together.

I understand that what people are most waiting to see is some sort of update about the work I've been doing. And not just once, but in a regular manner, maybe once a week?
It will take me a few days to put all the experiments I have done (and their results) in a digestible form that can be publicly presented.
I do have a promising format in mind that I can use to present updates, possibly in the form of a youtube podcast.

Please bare with me for a few more days, to get everything in order.

Thanks everybody!

Georgem, for your first update can you make sure that you address individual concerns?  Its all very well talking about your commitment to decentralisation and experiments that you have conducted but people want to know how your progress against the roadmap is developing and also when other people will be permitted to assist you.

You've got a team of people with significant experience in crypto who are emotionally and financially invested in this project ready and willing to help you. At the moment you are cutting them off.  You aren't even engaging people in the dev slack channel which is why I am speaking publicly here.  I don't think anybody thinks this is wise or acceptable.  At worst, its disrespectful to people who have offered you support both financially and practically.

I'm very sorry but georgem is clinging onto an idea that I don't think he can carry out. I know he is time/money and emotionally invested so it's hard for him to be honest about the real progress, which I suspect is dismal and SNs are along way away. The task is epic and ambitious, so I really can't blame georgem. But he should be honest, 100%, let the price correct and build up from there.

I make no assumptions but I'd like to think that georgem would ask for help if he was struggling.  What he is setting out to do is achievable and there are plenty of people out there ready and willing to help if he would let them in.

This is a community project but at the moment it feels like georgem is running this solo.

I totally support georgem. Why is there so many critics these times ? Such a project take a lot of time, and anyone can contribute without asking the permission Roll Eyes...

My only criticisms are that communication is non existent and progress isn't reported.  This makes it very hard to contribute.

How can a team work together if they have no idea what the lead dev is doing?
